@Green_vs_Red:
You pointed out all politician's give lip-service, more or less playing it off like Donald Trump is one of them…...even though he isn't, never was, and despite his being elected never will be. He'll just be "that guy 45".
I have to disagree, he holds the highest political office in the country. That makes him a politician.
@Green_vs_Red:
I don't know what's more strange the fact you think he'll (and congress) will actually do this or the fact that something about spending that much on our infastructure is setting off alarm bells
in my head
Like I said, I'm optimistic. If the man is going to be my president, then I want to see him succeed at things that are going to fuel job creation and revitalize our country's economy. Rooting against someone just because you dislike them doesn't make any sense if some of the ideas they are putting forward are good ones. The sensible approach here is to encourage policies and behavior that benefits America while also making it clear that we will protest anything that isn't in accordance with American values.
@Green_vs_Red:
The TPP deal is a divisive one, and I can easily see Trump reneging on the second promise
especially since it might negatively impact his friends.
As a businessman myself, it's a pretty open and shut case for me. I hate it, and I'm glad it's going away. The American labor force should not have to compete with other countries for their jobs, nor should another countries labor force have to compete wit Americans to keep their jobs.
@Green_vs_Red:
Obama drove it up due in no short part to Bush and the financial collapse.
Translation:
- If a republican drives the deficit up, it's the Republicans fault.
- If a democrat drives the deficit up, it's the Republicans fault.
k.
No doubt Obama inherited a bad situation, but hasn't taking nearly enough initiative to make things better. He's done very little bloodletting.
@Green_vs_Red:
…..I'd take this bit seriously if you weren't pretty much ignoring the fact that Trump and some of his cabinet along with a good portion of congress are taking money from corporate donors
and special interests, you do know this right?
Or are we going to pretend most democrats like Republicans are against gun control or financial reform because they're being paid by the NRA and Corporations to do so?
Right, so what's the difference between Hillary and Trump in this regard? The deficit is likely to skyrocket no matter who potus is.
@Green_vs_Red:
Making a promise and actually doing something are two different things, Trump said he bring back glass-steagal along with keeping parts of the ACA **do we have any reason to believe
he'll actually do this…..**especially given how he lies and flip-flops?
To say nothing of the fact that with Republicans controlling congress neither of these two thingsare likely to happen anyway.
Right, which is why that now that he's our president we have to hold him accountable, remain optimistic and encourage him to deliver on the things he's said that will actually benefit American citizens.
@Green_vs_Red:
Which he and republicans intend to do by either gutting or outright repealing the law.
How about we wait and see what the Trump administration actually proposes?
@Green_vs_Red:
Which he very likely won't.
How do you know?
@Green_vs_Red:
Part of it sucking has to do with things like certain states refusing to expand coverage the otherpart has to do with lack of the single payer option. You're putting an awful lot of blind faith into
people who have gone out of their way to undermine the law at every step and who have tried multiple times to repeal it. Not because it's a bad law mind you they just don't like the fact that t helps people….along with them taking money from special interests to talk shit about it.
Optimism is not blind faith. It's giving him a fair chance to prove that he has my best interests at heart. The issues with the ACA directly impact me, repealing it and replacing it with something inferior or nothing directly impacts me, a lapse in coverage for even a single day directly impacts me. So you can bet I'll be holding him accountable to his promises thus far. Why wouldn't I want him to succeed at making it better or replacing it with something that isn't such a clusterfuck?
@Green_vs_Red:
No, you're also in no position to argue this with your whining and insinuations about how bad Hillary was or would've been.
Huh? :wassat:
Sure I am.
Had Hillary won the election I'd be hoping for her success as well. I want whoever my president is to work for me, whether I voted for them or not.
@Green_vs_Red:
Trump also vowed to put an end to cronyism and mitigate the influence of certain entities in ourpolitics, stop buying into his bullshit.
Examples?
@Green_vs_Red:
We did nothing to strain our relationships with Russia or Pakistan. And Trump already looks like he's going to fuck up our improving relationships with Iran, Cuba, & along with India.
Besides drone strikes you mean? Bush and Obama have killed hundreds of civilians over the years.
@Cyclone_Baroness:
You know Robo. For as much as you sa we can make progress by having polite discussion. You yourself are the type of person that proves how often the conversation goes nowhere. You're very stubborn about not really absorbing what we've been saying for pages for months. It's extremely aggravating most days.
Oh, the irony…
Robo has made some fantastic points over the past few months. It's just that some people have a difficult time setting their personal feelings and bias aside to have a genuinely productive discussion about the issues. More than anything else, that's why most of these conversations go nowhere. If AP (or at least this thread) was less of a "safe space" and respected free speech a little more instead of catering to liberal bias, I think we could have some really honest discussions.
