I invented baggy pants, all bow to my wisdom
Oda's INSPIRATION for One Piece
-
-
Baggy pants can't be invented, only discovered, as they are a force of nature, like thunder or bunnies.

So Usopp became a god. He unleashed powerful warriors from the infinite hell that is the underground port. For revenge those former toys allied with Law, the rejected son of the Donquixote Family. Together, they climbed the mountain that separates this Family with godlike devil fruit abilities from the rest of the world.
Though this fight plunged Dressrosa into chaos and destruction, the kingdom can now freely advance towards a better future.
Hidden all this time in the palace, Mansherry can finally use her power to give hope. Even at the cost of her life. -
Found something!

I suspect Nico Robins mom is based on Uma Thurman but timeskip Robin is based on porn star Chloe Vevrier.

Perhaps it explains Odas choice of proportions as well.I, w, I don-what?

So this is some rock formation on an island in Iceland. The recession of the eyes strikes me as terribly similar to Zou.

Nice catch!!! BTW, I have a couple (one I had posted before but no one seemed to notice)

Wow, that was fast!! Cool catch!

This post is deleted!
-
There similar "buildings" also on Jordan, Egypt and some native americans (indians) had it but not this much as those looks
-
Two thoughts (don't know if the have been already mentioned):
Orlumbus furioso (The Frenzy of Orlando / Raging Roland) by Ludovico Ariosto and especially Gustave Dorés illustrations as inspiration for1. Skypia
!
!
!
But maybe also for2. Zou and the anthropomorphic Mink Tribe (although anthropomorphism is quite common in many cultures)

didnt thought that persepolis looks like those buildings in zou for me it didnt look similar for me
i think this is fist time oda inspired by iran -
Finally I can make threads ^^
Anyways, after a lot of research and consulting an actual geographer I finally arrived to the undoubtable conclusion that Zou is based on the Yemen city of Sana'a:
Here's all the proof:There's also a weekly column I have on my website and on OroJackson.com detailing all of the secrets in every chapter. Here was last week's if you're interested (please notice that some information is wrong, as it has been corrected on the newest article. The location is based on Yemen, NOT India).
If you found any additional information feel free to share it
Thanks for reading ^^ Take Care! -
You should post this in the inspiration thread (100% confirmed)

Does that mean that the whole thread needs to be moved?

Good Read thank you for the hard work just some things would like to address. For the one piece cover it looks to me like Luffy is just wearing a glove and isn't using COA (Busoushoku) when doing so there seems to be like an outline of there skin and the COA
Comparing this to his hand you can tell the difference also gloves are popular in both baseball and cricket, also I wouldn't consider Carrot overwhelming Zoro just managed to avoid a casual slash. Otherwise a good read and very thorough. -
Does that mean that the whole thread need to be moved?
Well you can wait until a mod does it (or not). You don't risk anything.
-
Well you can wait until a mod do it (or not). There won't be any arm.
You mean harm I guess?
Well if this thread ever becomes a bother then let it be merged, if not then nevermind :) -
Oh I didn't notice the letters on the door. Good catch.
-
Actually the building/mountains have been already proved to be the persian tombs of Naqsh-e-Rostam
-
This is some exquisite work, Artur. I am really looking forward to your future posts. By the way, what is your website?
-
Well I think Artur can have a thread about his "Chapter Secrets" in general as it not only inspirations but he can also post part of it (the inspirations one) on that thread
Edit: Oh about the buildings and such, just a reminder Dressrosa was Spain themed but also had a Colosseum (Rome) with wich was originaly for bullfights (again) Spain but also for gladiators (Rome) and Kyros was a Greek/Persian name so don't stick 100% with something as the buildings looks very very same with those on Persian Naqsh-e Rostam
-
yeah it's seem that this arc have arabian Architecture
in my country there's same building -

Those are deadringers though. The buildings don't really look like the other ones you mentioned, especially not the Pueblo Indian things.

Yeah but the other stuff in there matches up almost perfectly too.
It looks like Oda is taking inspiration from thoughout the middle east rather than just one location. Less the "Arabian Nights" fantasy middle east of Alabasta, and more based off more realistic stuff.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
yeah it's seem that this arc have arabian Architecture
in my country there's same buildingcongratulations middle easterns and north africans

sorry about the furrys though, that kinda sucks 4 you

I've seen that this forum focuses on many less threads than OroJackson, so maybe a single thread for all chapter secrets could work :)
I know that, I lived in Barcelona for almost my whole life
It's pretty cool to see childhood spots "onepiecefied"–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Sure but please first tell me where, I've already had some issues with this in the past, so please first just tell me where you'll put this :)

Yes OJ was lot of threads for the same thing here we have threads like General Marines thread or Zou arc thread and such.
Beter ask some mod or two about that first
-
We only just made a thread for Greg's officially published column, we don't need another one for someone that's been here for 10 minutes and has been constantly arguing with our decade long established translators that are doing it professionally like Stephen… no matter how nice their stuff may be.
For the time being keep it to appropriate threads such as this one or the chapter discussion.

Not the original, you need to be pretty good at english the get the jokes. He's not good enough from what I've seen. Japanese version exists but if it's anything like the German version it's about half as funny.

Oh yikes. That doesn't work whatsoever lol.
It's not even just the lines, the delivery of everything in the original is half as if not more important than the words. English humor is maybe kind of lost in dubbing altogether.
I mean the Japanese love em' some absurdist humor, but it's very different from the dry English form. -
not sure if this has been mentioned, but two key ingredients in gumbo z'herbes are "lucky" vegetables and a roux.
possibly not the origin of lucky roo but hey, maybe.

Also to bring up an old discovery: someone at my workplace immediately recognized Diamante as being Steven Tyler. (He randomly brought it up to me, despite us talking about the series for months now. But I can only imagine he saw the influence early on. I'm not sure he knows about all the other influences in One Piece, so someone innocently seeing something so blatant like that might be a bit of a jarring wake-up call.) Then again he only watches the anime, so that might be easier by seeing the movements in action. (As for me I've never watched the Aerosmith band.)

It's pretty obvious. I don't know of any other human being with a mouth like that :O
Plus the hair fits as well. -
So this might already be old news, but seein how I'm fairly new to this entire forum, I didn't bother to read through all of that, but…
I just watched out of reasons and chance the scene in which Doflamingo asks for the eternal life wish, points a gun to Law and says his entire name.
Trafalgar D. Water LawTrafalg D. Water Law?
Wait what? His name is Trafalgar D. Water Law? Like in Trafalgar and Waterloo, like in the battle of Trafalgar in which Napoleon lost his naval fleet and the Battle of Waterloo in which Napoleon lost everything? And his only wish is the complete and utter destruction of the current emperor of Dressrosa? And he also carries the D. - the in-universe name of the people destined to change the world? So basically Trafalgar Law himself is a symbol of the end of an emperor and his empire?
Sorry, I need to go now, before my mind blows in public. Too disgusting to look at. You know, all the bloody brain matter.

Cool. I hadn't realised that Water Law sounded a bit like Waterloo.

I don't know if this was brought up, but it recently occurred to me that Ace's death and Luffy's resulting sobbing screams before he passes out is quite possibly inspired by the ending of The Godfather: Part III. Luffy's reaction and facial expression in the manga has a similar affect of his initial reaction being that of a "silent scream" of agony with sound effects only added in the following chapter. The death itself is also rather similar in the sense of a family dying in his arms and Luffy's incomprehensible horror of the event.
-
Ace'd death?
Well I think The Godfather inspires Oda for designing Vinsmoke Family, it resembles mafioso Corleone Family who also has three sons while the 3rd son is being away for long time because he didn't like his father's illegal business before eventually returning. Underworld where Joker is a famous broker in One Piece universe represents this gangster theme, right?Dunno, we'll see what happen in next chapter.

All we really know from Sanji's childhood is he originally never had to worry about food (implying wealth), had at least some level of education and was afraid Pirates were targeting him for death. In the present he had no plans on returning to his family and seemed utterly surprised they knew he was alive (this chapter).
It is great that we're finally finding out exactly what his past is though. -
Was rewatching Dragon Ball Z and found something familiar:

That's a pretty generic (like the rest of that movie) death reaction trope. I know I've seen it loads of times.

Michael didn't run away from home, nor did he "not like" the family's business in the first place anyway. He joined the army for WW2 is all. Then not long after he came back he was in the thick of the family business of his own volition.

Strange Gun Whit's design is obviously inspired by the yaoi hands phenomenon. His nickname, "Strange gun" supports this theory. First of all, guns are very phallic objects and what's that other word that means strange? Queer. Oda is secret yaoi admirer. I am a detective.
