Chapter 795: Suicide
-
-
Man, Brook and Sanji comedy! It has been so long! I laughed so hard. It's great to see them back. Wow Kaido is amazing! Like more amazing than everything I imagined.
@Revolutionary:I'm really curious how did Kaidou get up there anyway?
He jumped.
-
Kaido is not a dwarf ;__; I hope we still get the chance to meet a dwarf who is actually worth the trouble (man, I love that race, but every single dwarf so far was so… urgh).
Anyways, cool chapter. Urouge being Urouge is always great and we finally saw the rest of the SH (Brook, I missed you. I had no idea how much). And when was the last time I saw such a great introduction for a character? But being "unkillable"... I don't know if this is the most useless power for one to have in One Piece or if this is the most absolute power in there (so much that every character has it).

@Archie:
Also found it interesting that it was said that you'd have to create an alliance just to get past all the enemies guarding an emperor
My point is, it's getting clearly that you can not conquer New World just running by yourself showing your own guts fists. If i am not mistaken there are too many references through the manga that younger generations of pirates that think that their own strength is enough to make the difference, sooner or later are crushed.
People tend to see grouping as a weakness, the society works a little like that, we think that if we can not solve something by ourselves then we failed, and people tend to be arrogant. But the point here is the opposite, create an alliance shows that you are not only strong in terms of physical ability, but it means you are smart too, and intelligence is a big weapon in your side.Let's see something, who else has big crews of allies to support them when their own strength is not enough? So far taking out the Red Hair Pirates, almost all Yonkou have dozens of ally ships that they request when they are in difficult moments, and together with their help they can still reign until now. Shiki the Golden Lion had an entire fleet of allies, it was even known has the Grand Armada a reference to the Spanish Armada (aka "Invicible Armada") from 1588 that was a big one and was defeated by the English fleet that were less in terms of numbers ( do you recall something with this? yes, the Battle in Edd War where Roger defeated Shiki and started to conquer the New World ). Even the new formed pirate alliance between supernovas show us, that sometimes you most join forces to defeat a common and stronger enemy.
And in the future we are gonna see it taking even larger scales with the old WB pirates joining Luffy, or the Bartolomeo pirates, who knows maybe Crocodile too since he is in New World starting probably a new pirate crew, the Revolutionary army, they are all people that have too many pride to work with Luffy as a crewmate by they could help him by working to him in situations that Luffy needs, since they all have their own goals.
I don't believe that Roger conquered the sea all by himself, he is a legend, but even so, he was not invencible. Working as an ally doesn't mean the other Captains abandoned all their hopes and dreams, i still think that Luffy is gonna fight Kidd in a 1 vs 1 fight before arriving to Raftel, and then all supernova are gonna create a big alliance to fight Blackbeard and the WG.
I am not telling that it demands an alliance to progress through the New World, but the alliance concept is taking a big role in the story.
PS: Sorry for the long posts, but i didnt write here in a while so little by little i am showing to all of you everything i think about the manga
-
I loled at Hakuba being tied up with chains and the crazy face while he's sleeping.
Hakuba is not sleeping. He's there because Cabbage is sleeping.
-
Oh, it was also nice to see some more natural New World craziness again with the water eruption at the island. I think it's the first time something like that happened after the On Air Pirates walking on air and Capone being sucked to a floating place.
-
Great how Oda jumps forward with the storyline. It feels really refreshing reading this chapter. Finally!
-
Imagine if his suicide attempt had worked. All the news around the world saying "btw, Kaido is dead, nobody is responsible"
-
@uniaka:
To me, Kaidou looks on a similar size with WB, not the giants. His shadow looked like a giant, but shadows' are not accurate at all. Kanjuro's shadow looked nothing like him.
I don't think so Whitebeard is about 3 times taller than Luffy, Kid is slightly taller than Luffy but he is like 1/6 the size of Kaidou probably smaller than because the view we get is of them looking up and you can't really see his feet. Luffy has a shot of him standing side by side to Whitebeard.
Didn't Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji fight underwater @ 10,000m (I know Luffy did at least have his arm under water at FI and still take out roided Hody)? so it kind of makes the 10,000 foot fall seem less crazy in the One Piece realm. But obviously Kaidou is a beast, I mean suicide attempts as a hobby and being seemingly unable to die.
-
-
Hahaha, so this is what's going to force kid and them to work with SHs.
ALSO another samurai reveal!!!

Oda is never consistent of how he draws the scale of things. Kaidou looks big and massive because Oda thought it look cool. Or something.
Also he did not fall 10,000 feet. Good thing they use the metric system in that fictional world.

This post is deleted!

ALSO another samurai reveal!!!
I think they meant Momosuke in this case but I am still not sure.
-
@Fire Fist:
Good chapter. A little disappointed that Kaidou is just a standard Giant, but at least he looks powerful enough to be a threat. The added angle of him (supposedly) having a devil fruit that gives him the ability to "cheat" death probably makes him a formidable foe, too.
I prefer a strong looking opponent as opposed to the tiny femine like men a lot of people are going for. IE the new Lobo in the new 52. Also how did Kaido get that scar if blades break when they touch him. Luffy and Law are nowhere near a level to be fighting this guy. I think Luffy would need a Gear 7/8 for someone like this.
@PhoenixBoosh:Kaido lived up to his hype. This man kills himself as a hobby.
The fact that Shanks was able to hold him off is crazy.
His presence is overwhelming. This is probably the only villain Luffy will need an ass pull to beat. I wouldn't even be mad.
I would prefer Luffy to not fight him anytime soon because of that sheer fact.
-
I think they meant Momosuke in this case but I am still not sure.
mangastream's translation didn't make it seem like it. they still have a 3rd missing one. And momo and kinemon were heading to zou originally.
-
They better be on Zou.
I don't care about the hype. That Kaidou introduction by suicide was just awesome.
I hope he doesn't have a fruit but I am just kidding myself.
-
What a strange chapter, huge shift in tone.
So…. the rest of the Straw Hats are on some island?? They found people who are members of Kaidou's crew?
Then.... conveniently Kaidou is on the sky island with Urouge, when he jumps off to the island where Kidd and the rest are conveniently sitting below?I saw conveniently, but I guess Urouge got into a fight with Kidd and the rest and was able to escape, but why is Kaidou there other than to jump from a height and attempt suicide?
Kaidou looks like Oars for sure, but maybe, just maybe, he was originally intended for movie 9 as shown in the teaser trailer but never shown again (probably not):
-
so i think that it's finally time to agree that the person in top left corner here is kaido..
!
compare it with this bottom left corner..
!
-
Is Kaido a giant or just a really tall and large man?

not sure how people wouldn't have though that wasn't him … I mean you had the major players on there (inc. 3 of the 4 Emperor). Sooo: mystery guy, 3 of the 4 = !
*I'm guessing Shanks gave him that scar?
-
"If I become King again, you become Queen". Can we get a round of applause for what might be Mangapanda's most creepily mistranslated line?
Riku is a pedo confirmed.
-
Kaido finally got revealed! I'm guessing a Hydra or Qilin mythical zoan (Phoenix is already occupied by Marco), that would explain the ability to cheat death.
-
I personally think that it would be hilarious if Kaidou's running gag would be him constantly trying to kill himself to no effect.
Nonchalantly shooting himself in the head mid-conversation, jumping off of any high place nearby, and so on.
-
Kaido probably has the mythological Zoan of Sun Wukong the Monkey King
In his novel " Journey to the West " there is a part where
! After a great war the monkey king gets captured by the gods and gets tortured over and over, the way they describe the tortures in the novel and the way Kaidou's tortures are described on this chapter is almost the same
For more infos just google / wiki it
That would be interesting, but I doubt they'd make a god as iconic as Sun Wukong into a giant. He's always been more about his intelligence than brute strength/power (but then again Goku is the exact opposite of intelligent, so what do I know).
-

I'm so baffled too as to how people think he was anything other than Kaido lol this isn't some super mystery that needed solving.
-
It's funny that Law say that meeting a yonkou face to face is difficult because of their huge crew. And then Kaido showed up at Kidd's backyard after failed attempted suicide. Lol
Seriously, how did Kaidou get up there!?
As many have suggested, Kaidou could have try jumping into ocean. But I guess "Yonkou Kaido drowned to death" is kinda a boring headline.
Admittedly, this chapter was a bit of mess in terms of how the contents was delivered. Sanji and co totally got overshadowed by kaidou appearance. -
I personally think that it would be hilarious if Kaidou's running gag would be him constantly trying to kill himself to no effect.
Like Kumadori you mean?
-
I haven't had time to fully digest the chapter yet or read through all the conversation, but I can't help but think Kaidou might have an "I want to live" moment after fighting Luffy.
-
Maybe Kaido just wasn't as strong back then. He did get beaten 7 times and got captured 18 times. He obviously wasn't always a monster he is now.
Wonder if that also has something to do with his ability. Getting stronger after each defeat or near death (reminds me of Kenpachi too much, though). I'd prefer if he came to the top simply by not giving up and fighting. Or, if he came to the top trying to kill himself against strong opponents (more likely, lol).
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Looked to me like like those legs grew from his back. Doesn't have to be his hair simply because it was on top.
Depends of what "defeated" him. If the seven times it was roger and whitebeard ok. Captured 18 times? Maybe he gave himself to try to die on purpose. Those numbers are here to show how he can escape death.
-
Wonder how Kaido got up there in the first place.
Though i suppose i could've been meaning to kill himself with the knock up stream
-
@.access:
Like Kumadori you mean?
Yeah, but actually going through with it.
"Kaidou: Kidd…it's been a while...
Kidd: What the hell are you doing here?!
Kaidou: Well you see- [BANG!] ….Damn. It didn't work again..."
-
Kaidu is a fucking beast, and he couldn't have been introduced in any better way. i don't think his powers are a result of df though, he could be a hybrid between Elbaf giants and OZ's race of gaints so maybe that give him extra durability? meh…i don't want theorize too much this early... i just wanna get on the hype train!
-
Kaido should have known he was not going to die from that jump; otherwise he wouldn't be talking about going to a war once he stood up.
But now that a yonkou is moving. So despite Doffy was beaten, which was the initial objective of Law's plan, Law's actions do manage to turn the new world into a chaos. Such a nice turn of events.
Now given that he does want to commit suicide, and also that he envies Whitebeard for managing to get a site where to die, most likely Kaido wants to go to a war only to be killed, as it happened to WB.
But we know Kaido tried to attack WB before Marineford war. Why he did that? Is it that he was planning on going on berseck mode against the marine, and WB actions to rescue Ace interfere with his plan?…
Because, if he is going now into a war, who is he battling in this war? The marine?
-
Because, if he is going now into a war, who is he battling in this war?
Maybe with anyone who can give him the death he wants.
And since the strawhats "make miracles happen" he'll take them on as an opponent.
-
The strangest thing of the chapter was the sky island floating because of balloons
-
[hide]
[/hide]Kaidou, original character, DOUGHNUT STEEL
In all honesty though, he does look incredibly badass, but it really left him open to this joke.
-
Maybe he had the Ope-Ope fruit's special operation performed on him. After all, it had to happen to someone for it's effect to be known, and it makes sense for that person to be someone so important.
Also, it's looking like my sad prediction of Rebecca ending up in a dress by the end of this arc is coming to fruition.
-
Im calling it right now… the former ope ope no mi user performed the immortal operation on kaido and thats why he cant die
This can be soooo true, and the guy sacrificed himself to put the "curse" on him and he tried 2 die and was not successfull …. and .... and .... so many possibilities
-
( ´_ゝ`) (all I can really say about the chapter, void of all emotion currently)
-
why isn't Kaidou going to Akainu and asking to get manga fisted. For now it is the best way to for in One Piece other than flashbacks
-
Just read the manga. Luckily when I awoke, Mangastream had it up. Yet I'm confused by what I've read. Might be because I just woke up so I'm not fully awake yet but….huh?
-
I've been thinking a bit. Maybe Kaidou's scale-like tattoo has something to do with his powers? It just seems too prominent to me to be nothing but a design choice. Maybe it's a hint to some sort of mythical zoan Kaidou consumed. There's a bunch of animals that are connected with immortality, except the phoenix because that one is already taken by Marco. My guess would be something from asian culture, but unfortuntely I don't know much about it. Perhaps an axolotl fruit? (even though this animal is from Mexico) The contrast to Kaidou's appearance and epitah would be too funny :D
Edit: Perhaps some animal with an extremely hard skin/shell? Because in the chapter it says that guillotine blades broke, as did spears, and gallow ropes snapping and gigantic prison ships sinking seem to indicate extreme weight to me, even more than that of a giant.
-
I have cavities that chapter was so sweet; delightfully delicious page by page.
-

I'm not really sure Kaido wants to just be flat out killed, despite what this chapter leads one to believe. He probably wants to die (or be defeated, lets be honest here…he ain't going to die) in "glorious combat" to a worthy opponent, and Luffy, will be said opponent.
Fighting Luffy will probably give Kaido a new outlook on life once all is said and done, and really, I can see Kaido warm up and respect Luffy because of their inevitable bout against one another, and Luffy offering him a worthy challenge. I mean, didn't Kaido basically say he is just bored of life because no one can/has offered him a worthy challenge?
-

My guess is that he does not have a Devil Fruit power. He's just super tough! Having a DF would make it very easy to commit suicide, right?
-
@Eat:

Unless a gimmick of his Devil Fruit is that he simply can't die, meaning, he can't even drown himself in the ocean, Devil Fruit or no. lol
Or, as some are prediciting, he was "cursed" (with immortality) by the formal ope-ope DF user, and simply can't die.
-
Kaido's men seem a tad wimpy. But i suppose they make up for it in bulk.
But atleast he's got Drake on the payroll.

It was a joke.
Still I'm more curious if he really is the strongest man around now. If yes against which characters have he lost as stated in this chapter.
Further more… I ask myself why he wanted to stop WB before MHQ and what happened between him and Shanks -

Well…to be fair...I doubt the ones we've seen are close to Division Commander level of power, other than possibly Drake, I guess.
