The thing that bugs me is that there's no reason it couldn't be more common. It's not that the intended audience cares (and it's worth pointing out that OP, and Jump in general, has massive female readership in Japan), they just want to see cool fights. It's the authors and editors that seem to think it's their solemn duty to put women on a pedestal.
And again, if OP were like Toriko, where female characters are barely ever present, I'd have no complaints. My issue is that Oda consistently writes insultingly weak, overly emotional, trash-tier female characters that are worse than having no women at all.
I'd have liked Punk Hazard a lot more if it didn't include the belittling of Tashigi, Dressrosa would've been better without Rebecca, and now I'm being distracted from how cool this arc has been by Pudding's lovey-dovey meltdown.
