Knights of the Round is now a six hour cutscene.
-
i hope it's not gonna be an arpg. keep it turn based
-
I hope they keep the current translation and the voice actors have to just deal with it. hrhr
-
I'd love to play the same game with upgraded graphics and no bugs. FF7 is a pretty perfect game for me.
-
Still waiting for some level for final fantasy 6 and 9, I prefer those to 7.
-
Color me not impressed.
1. FF7 is not even in my top 5 FF games
2. Not sure how well earlier FF games will transition to now a day games. Feel like no matter what they will do they will piss off purists for changing something.
3. No release date or anything mentioned, not even year. No mentino of how long been in development.
4. Pure cinematic trailer. Hell we got a cinematic trailer of FF7 when the PS3 was first revealed.Last but not least Square has been not been making the best FF games lately, who knows how their screw up this game. (and as I said, this isn't a masterpiece in my eyes anyway, so if they screw that up even more…)
-

Tech demo designed to
fool gamers on the PS3's powershow off the power of the Playstation 3. -
With Square's recent resource management, expect the first proper trailer in 2019.
-
The funny part is the voiceover is all "look, I know we've screwed up and abandoned this for a long time and we said we'd never do it, but now we're doing it, promise! And we swear it'll be good!"
Anyway, The fact that its being touted as starting Playstation exclusive may mean Sony is personally investing in it to push it along, same as Street Fighter 5. Maybe we'll actually see it in the next 5 years?
Depends on when they finish 15 I guess.
Woulda preferred 6 to be remade, but they screwed that up already… and 9 doesn't actually need a remake, they just need to rescan in the existing art assetts that were low-rezzed for the cds. The background art is super detailed and gorgeous, far beyond what the original game actually showed.
-
Tech demo designed to
fool gamers on the PS3's powershow off the power of the Playstation 3.Yea I know what that trailer was for (or tech demo. Same as the Zelda one shown for Wii U)
I was just saying. I mean all that was shown for FF7 remake was essentially a tech demo or trailer. It shows us nothing. The development could have not even started on the game for all we know. They could have easily just made a trailer for the announcement and having basically done NOTHING yet
-
"It may bring joy, it may bring fear, but let us embrace whatever it brings."

This is how Square has operated for years now; see: KH3, FF15, whatever the fuck Lighting Returns started life as

I REALLY hope they use the original translation.
I want the Cloud-Zack twist to be completely goddamn incoherent again.

2. Not sure how well earlier FF games will transition to now a day games. Feel like no matter what they will do they will piss off purists for changing something.
Ah, they definitely will. The first Wild Arms (a contemporaneous rpg which wasn't as nearly as big) got a pretty nice remake for PS2 with minor changes and fanboys were rioting against the remixed soundtrack.
I feel like this is Square-Enix's desperate attempt to answer to all the backlash in the last few years, but it could backfire. I can see this taking a looong time to be released..
-
I was so annoyed when it mentioned Nomura is directing. Can he just focus on KH3 already.
-
"It may bring disappointment, it may bring outrage, but let us embrace whatever it brings, whenever it comes"
I know I shouldn't think such things but….
-
Will the gay orgy in the Honey Bee Inn be retained and will Square release a video of Steve Burton recording his lines for it?
-
If Cloud still cross-dresses, day 1 purchase.
-
If lego people remain a thing, day 1 purchase
-
I expect nothing of value to come out of this one. Which is… good?
Oh well, at least it will be interesting to see how they screw it up.
Let it…
-
It'd be hilarious if they're full detail renders for the cinemas and combat, then cut back to overhead chibis for everything else.
What they did in the FF4 remake after all.
I can't imagine they'll go that route on this one though.

HD lego people plz

@Purple:
HD lego people plz
I agree! Tho I'd be happy with a Kingdom Hearts-ish style as a middle ground. As it is, Advent Children style is too "realistic" looking for me in this game.
-
Oh swell, ANOTHER Final Fantasy game for Square-Enix to promptly release worldwide, while a good 10+ recent Dragon Quest games remain stranded in Japan. Whoop-de-freakin'-doo.
-
Could something greater be revealed tomorrow from SE? :wassat:
-
@Cyan:

On that note, I'm totally ok with Square kicking that whole cast of prozac poppers to the curb. Get some new blood in there (or old blood with way more VA experience). No more dumpster diving in hollywood.
-
Could something greater be revealed tomorrow from SE? :wassat:
Something greater than Final Fantasy VII…. Final Fantasy VIII?
-
I really want to see how they'll handle all the goofy scenes in FF7 with a 2kl4skl HD Cloud. I'm super excited to see Midgar in HD though, I want to see every spec of dirt and grime in sector 7.
I always wondered why they never gave FF6 the same treatment as the FF4 the after years version on psp. I just want FF6 with clean sprites, no need to do 3d models.
Anyway at the Square enix press conference I hope they show off some Dissidia.
-

They did, for tablets.
They badly fucked it up.

He said clean sprites, not lifeless abominations

I'm so happy… More hyped for this as for FF XV... I'm old

FF6 and FF9 remakes, that would definetly be great for me :D.

To be perfectly fair, the Wild Arms soundtrack is GODLY.

FF7 is Cloud's game, right? Never played that one before, actually.
In fact, when I was a kid, Kingdom Hearts was my first experience to the franchise, so I thought Cloud and Leon came from the same game lol
-
I don't trust Squeenix with remaking FF7, they would probably alter the characterization to match that of the Compilation (i.e. make Cloud and Vincent emo, turn Aeris into a generic pure JRPG maiden, etc) and remove the cartoony stuff like characters jumping around and Tifa and Scarlet's slap fight.
-
I hope Cloud keeps his "deadbeat dad" persona from Advent Children.
-
Is it "Aeris" or "Aerith"?
-
I'm quite conflicted with this. I love FF7, despite the incoherent story at times. I loved the materia system, almost all the cast I liked to some degree, the world was interesting (even still today), and I am very weird in how I like the presentation of the PS1 graphics even if it looks a little clunky. There's a certain charm to the look of the characters and it allows some imagination to the world in some ways. There were some really cool boss battles, and despite them being a pain in the arse to beat, I liked the weapon battles from a design standpoint and just because it really felt like you were fighting a force of nature. The summons were really cool looking, especially the Bahamut and Knights of the Round ones. I am clouded with nostalgia when playing the game again each time, but I can point out what I like and admit there are flaws. So the idea of seeing the world again with nicer graphics sounds cool, and cleaning up the translation and some other stuff can be great. However…
I lost interest in a remake a long time ago. I've come to like playing new games for what they have to offer, and playing my old favorite games because that's what they are. Add the Squenix hasn't had the best track record for a while, I'm quite skeptical. In some ways they have been improving, so there is a chance of it being decent. The problem is I feel some changes they might want to make could be detrimental.
Soundtrack: They want to orchestrate or remix the tracks, that works for me. Sometimes remixes can not be as good, but I've enjoyed the music Squenix makes, so I'm not to worried. If they want to make the music completely different, then that's where the problem comes in. There might be some tracks here and there that I would be okay with not being there, but the music for the most part seemed to suit the mood of the area/scene. With the nostalgia, scenes with completely different music might not mesh well for me. Now there is a chance it could be better, but then bias will set in for me and probably other people.
Voice Acting: In a new game, the character can grow on you depending on how they voices are done. Problem here is that you are now putting to voices to characters that didn't have a voice originally. There was Advent Children, and those voices weren't bad. Problem is that people like me might have ingrained what a certain character sounds like. For example, I imagine that Barrett sounds like a Gruff, ex-marine or something like that, who can suddenly start bawling when the scene calls for it. A voice that doesn't come close to it will bother me, to say the least. Everyone will have their own idea of what a character will sound like, so I see there being lots of problems with the voice acting, even if on its own is good.
Cutting down on the Over World: Back in the day over worlds were made to expand the length, and had to space things out due to graphical power of the time. Now it can be cut out or very barren due to costs. Yes, the FF7 game didn't have much to show for an over world, but there was enough for imagination. If they do an over world, there will most likely be a severe cut in what there was. What was supposed to be a long stroll to get to another area to give an idea of distance might be extremely short. There might not even a an over world at all.
Area Design: Once again, the areas weren't the best looking, but the designs were unique enough and once again, could be left to the imagination. What we saw of Midgar is not going to look nearly as good as in the game, even the in game cut scenes. There's a lot of different places in FF7, which means 1 of 2 things most likely. Either places are going to be cut, or areas are going to be cut in size to make each place look nice.
The problem with remaking a game as old as this is no matter how good it ends up in the end, comparisons will be made to the original. With how different the graphics are, certain things are going to feel different, and with how things are today, there's going to be more harsh judgment from people. I'm not looking forward to the outbreak of once this game is released. You'll have those still praising it and being jerks about it, those being dicks and saying the game was in fact overrated, and those that will make claims based on the critical reception. the 90% of those not part of it will get sick of it and wish this game didn't get released just because people can't let things be.
-
Is it "Aeris" or "Aerith"?
Both. Aeris is the English translation they settled on for the original english release of FF7, Aerith is the Japanese, and what they've used pretty much everywhere since the original release in all the spinoff stuff.
I imagine the remake will go with Aerith.
The name in kana is エアリス, "e-a-ri-su." Because the Japanese alphabet lacks a true "th" sound, ス (su) is often used as a best-fit substitute for the sound when spelling out loan words. If a work is being translated with relatively minimal context, however, it can be difficult to spot these cases if the intended word is not immediately obvious. As the translator of Final Fantasy VII likely lacked much or all of the context discussed in the Etymology section, "Aeris" is the most logical transliteration of エアリス when the word is given with no other context, as ス is also commonly used to represent a "solo S" in addition to a "th."
-
I almost said 'Well, we'll be able to change her name to Aeris if they make is Aerith', but if the game has voice acting and they refer to each other by name, that won't be possible.
I wonder if Steve Burton is still going to voice Cloud.
-
Is it "Aeris" or "Aerith"?
I go with Aeris because I'm a contrarian edgelord but I think Aerith is more accurate.
-
I wonder if Steve Burton is still going to voice Cloud.
Square's really anal about voice actor consistency, so General Hospital Cloud is probably still around as is Superman Sephiroth.
-
I've boarded the hype-train, ladies and gentlemen. Next stop, a Mako Reactor.
-
Bring back Lance Bass and Mandy Moore.
-
Why not they need the work.
-
I have very fond memories of FF7 like a lot of people, but I don't trust Square to do a good remake that resembles the original in any way. It's going to be Advent Children: The Game, and that movie was a goddamn disaster of vapid flash over substance.
-
Behehehe! Truth is: I only played Crisis Core and watched Advent Children.
I can finally put something in the middle. -
I still can't believe that we're getting a Nier sequel directed by Yoko Taro, music by Keiichi Okabe and co-developed by Platinum games. This is the biggest surprise of E3 for me, and this is at an E3 where a FF7 remake, The Last Guardian and Shenmue 3 appeared! This game by all logic shouldn't exist. Those other games if made will all be a hit but a Yoko Taro game and a Platinum game? Those are two sure fire signs that this game won't sell! But it's happening anyway and I cannot be happier. Thank you based Square I am but a drivelling fanboy.

More on the Remake: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/final-fantasy-7-remake-s-story-could-deviate-from-/1100-6428247/
When asked if the remake, in development for PlayStation 4, will follow the Final Fantasy VII narrative exactly or feature new elements, director Tetsuya Nomura gave GameSpot an ambiguous answer.
“We’ve announced an HD port version on the PlayStation 4, and then we have the remake coming to PS4,” Nomura said through a translator. “You’ll have this extremely, very, very pretty FFVII existing on the same plane. We feel that if that happens, it’s like, why have the same exact game?"
“We think that if a game is on a certain platform and that platform becomes obsolete, then we’d recommend playing the new port version,” he added.
Currently, all we know about the Final Fantasy VII Remake is that it is now in production with key members of the original game’s staff on board, including producer Yoshinori Kitase and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima. Other developer details are unknown. My Opinion:
I think the fighting mechanics will be different. They might alter some of the story as well. Viewing angles will probably be more similar to some of the more recent games like Final Fantasy 15. Maybe the Open World will be would be similar to FF15 as well.I got chills when I saw Barret and Cloud.
What I want to see in the Remake:
- Materia system was the best so I hope they don't screw that up.
- I want to see the open world again with nicer graphics. I would accept if the Open World is similar to FF15..or if it is just a more updated chibi version of the original, with better graphics.
- Hope they clean up the translation.
- I don't want them to bastardize the soundtrack too much.
These are the basics that I want to see. I have more concerns then wants…because I would be more than happy if the game is as close to the original as possible with minimum deviation.
What I am worried about with this Remake:
- I don't want them to go and mess with the world map in a way that the world looks smaller or the story gets strictly linear like the newer games.
- This "Trailer" is just a cinematic scene. FF7 Crisis Core, and Dirge of Ceberus had some nice scenes as well but they didn't reflect on how the game was like. We don't know what the graphics will be like in game or how the gameplay mechanics will be like. I am thinking that it would be different but hope its different in a good way.
- The feel of FF7 was different because we had these lego like blocky characters. By adding graphics they can put a lot of attention to detail and reaction. I don't know how they are going to approach Cloud cross-dressing(maybe they might cut this out?)..or what is going to happen to some of the area design. The original designs were unique enough and were left to the imagination. We saw Midgar but like I said..it is not going to look nearly as good in the game. There are so many different places in FF7 with many different mini-games. Snowboarding, riding a motorcycle, Airplane, Raft/boat, Chocobo breading/racing..etc Hope they don't toss that out.
- Fighting Mechanics….Hope it is nothing like Final Fantasy 12 or whatever games that have auto action battles.. with rest of the crew being controlled by the computer and you selecting which one you want to play as. Lame. It is just plain ol Lame. Don't do it...just don't. Please don't fuck it up and make it another one of those Final Fantasy games. I like controlling the actions of every crew member. Maybe they don't have to stand in a line on one side and the enemy on the other side but don't make drastic modern changes to the fighting mechanics. I like the active time based fighting mode final fantasy had.

Im hoping with the X remake and now 7 being remade that either 9 or 12 is next to be remade
