I really don't blame most of you guys for not understanding Haki seeing as it's really hard to get across the western audience, but please if you're gonna talk about it, please for the love of everything that is Holy, at least read up on it first. How are you guys fine with passing judgement on something you don't even understand? I suppose it wouldn't bother me much if it was the usual crappy posters but damn, it's just a shame.
The person himself/herself went through the trouble of trying to define/explain Haki, hoping it'd reach other forums. I, myself quote the person a lot, I try to limit it to only the Haki thread but either way, I can't even say it's not annoying but can you really blame me? Geez not just this forum but the whole english fanbase… it's just hard.
Anyways, the potential difference example ("thesis") that I quoted on page 50 of this thread - posted on June 11, 2009 confirmed further by SBS.
Volume 65 SBS released February 3 2012, specifically Chapter 642.

I don't see why it wouldn't apply to Busoshoku as well.

Sigh.. low enthusiasm… but I'll try.. anyway.. The passive nature of Luffy's (Haoshoku) Haki is-- sigh.. not technique.. not skill.. been there from the beginning... Haoshoku.... part of the character.. Whitebeard.... Family.. Hancock.. Beauty..
quotes... quotes
What can Haki do, or what does it do? A spirit, a lifeforce, a will to rule over others, what does that mean? How do you rule over others?
There are 2 ways, they either fear you and succumb under your powers or they become attracted to you and becomes your allies. This are 2 fundamental ways to rule over others.
If you know someone on your side who's extremely confident, powerful and charismatic, would you be attracted to him? Would you choose someone like that to become your leader?
Because a person with strong Haki would mean that he has a strong spirit, a strong will to rule over everything, it makes his allies feel that they can depend on you. With strong allies, you can have a strong fighting spirit. People with strong Haki will become powerful leaders and as a powerful leader, you'll have similarly powerful Nakama. Haki can become stronger when people bind together, their spirits, their 'ki' merge and support each other, becoming an even stronger force.
Haki is not Qi Gong, but a form of qi / ki. Qi Gong is a system of exercises. Haki is this aura that a person gives out, the way he affects the atmosphere of things, with his will or charisma or fear.
Luffy's grand dream and determination to be the Pirate King is what makes him so charismatic and powerful. Because he is so determined to become the Pirate King, he doesn't fall from defeat, he just keeps standing up and press on. His spirit makes his Nakama trust and believe in him and makes his enemies fear his strength. That is Luffy's Haki at work, all the way from the start.
Haki is this atmosphere that a person creates, whether he is threatening or charismatic, whether he is feared as an enemy or respected as an ally. It is the entire composition of the person's will and intention, the way his carries out his ambition. It doesn't matter what is his power, that power will become the reason why he is feared or respected, which also means that its also his reputation.
Did WB not show his Haki? No, he has always been showing it, like I said, that reputation of a person and how people would fear his name, is Haki at work. He has ruled over people hearts, his enemies feared him, his allies feel protected by him. Not just his crew, but even the islands that he protects with his name, the Fishman Island which Jinbei holds his gratitude to White Beard for helping.
People only seem to look at Haki for its physical effects, but that is really just the visible tip of the iceberg. The rest of Haki is much more, all underneath, unseen. What I want people to know is this part that's unseen. Haki as the spirit, the will that's emanating from a person. Haki that attracts allies, repels enemies.
Haki is not just an offensive effect, it also strengthen your spirits of your allies as a whole. It is just like an aura that strengthens yourself and people who are in your aura.
Someone with an extremely intense drive to carry out his ambitions and reach for his goals often inspire people with similar dreams if not, intimidate those with conflicting goals.
It can also mean someone with such overwhelming pride and power that he stands above all others, people either look up to or worship the person, or fear his pride and power.
Both of these refer to the way Luffy and Hancock has the 'Haoushoku Haki'(King's Coloured/Disposition Haki'.
Luffy has such a powerful drive and belief that he will become the Pirate King, he has the will to overcome everything because he believes that if he gets defeated by such obstacles, he won't live up to his dreams. His ambition itself is his Haoushoku Haki. His Nakama trusts him for his will and determination, they feel that they can do anything when he is around. His enemies fear his name because of the outrageous deeds he commited.
Hancock believes that she is the most beautiful and powerful woman in the world and she certainly lives up to her pride. Her pride and confidence from her power and beauty makes her Haki the Haoushoku level. Her beauty and power puts her in the place firmly as the Queen of Amazon Lily, she rules over her subjects who adore her. But her enemies fear her beauty and power, especially with her beauty being the deadly lure to her power. Yes, Hancock has that Haki because with her beauty, her Devil Fruit ability makes her extremely powerful.
And a little bit on how Luffy and Hancock interacts.
Because of Luffy's lack of interest in her beauty, its the first time she recieved such a dent to her pride. You can say her Haki weakens when it comes to Luffy, instead Hancock is attracted by Luffy's even greater Haoushoku Haki, she even looks up to him and falls in love with him. She is impressed by Luffy's selflessness to save the 3 Amazons turned to stone and even covered their hideous tattoos. She is impressed by Luffy doing something greater than she can do, thus she is attracted to his Haki.

@Aohige_AP:
In a close combat fights, it's hard to distinguish CoO usage from just plain good martial arts instinct.
But I think if anything, this chapter has given us an outlook of how amazingly useful it is for let's say… a sniper.
It's practically New Type senses from Gundam.
See/read/feel/sense intentions, aura and presence
Seems to be interchangeable… plenty of uses... see/read intentions.. see/read aura/presence... feel/sense intentions.. feel/sense aura/presense..
@Dohs:
So who's next interesting person to learn Haki? All I can think of is Nami with her weather skills. Someone even mentioned that her predicting weather might have been CoO. Damn, everything is Haki now :D
Qi / Ki.. Air.. Atmosphere… Sense.. Feel.. not surprising.. if it becomes.. Kenbunshoku..
@Miss:
Women don't need haki cause they don't fight.
Earliest.. proficient users.. Busoshoku.. women.. island full … Amazon.. Kyudo...
Sorry.. just. I think I just need a break.
