Spain has a king? I keep forgetting about that… I think Netherlands have one too. Well I guess tabloids need something to write about.

When i heard abdicate i kinda assumed that he was dismantling the monarchy.
That he's just doing a baton pass to his kid is a lot less interesting

Tell that to Victoria. :P

You know you're being a real fucking idiot gun-toter when even the NRA is calling you out:
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2014/06/nra-open-carry-guns-backlash-texas -
I like how they immediately turn on the NRA as being some sort of pinko-leftist propaganda outfit for pointing out that a bunch of guys carrying assault rifles everywhere isn't something sane people want to see.
-

Eh i wouldn't be too suprised if the monarchy ended with her.
It ain't easy being royalty, i mean the knug can't even go to a strip club in peace.

How does one not realize that it's absolutely terrifying for normal people?
I mean i'm usually sceptical when i hear you and Zeph talk about how clueless the rightwing is and all.
But goddamn that's surreal. What reality are those folk living in?
-
Why don't they allow handguns on display.
-
How does one not realize that it's absolutely terrifying for normal people?
Of course it's terrifying but the proper response according to them is to be at least as heavily armed.
But goddamn that's surreal. What reality are those folk living in?
One that's probably going to do as much damage to their "cause" as any number of mass shootings ever could.
Why don't they allow handguns on display.
A lot of it has do with the Black Panthers carrying around guns in the '70s but who the hell wants to go in a restaurant and have the guy next to you openly carrying a firearm regardless of type?
-

Anything that gives the NRA the sweats makes me giggle. And you know the NRA is sweating when their own "support" groups are working against them by terrifying people into wanting more gun restriction laws.

I'm somewhat convinced that the 2nd Amendment didn't exist until the 1990s.

@Cyan:
I'm somewhat convinced that the 2nd Amendment didn't exist until the 1990s.
That's actually true to an extent; at least the modern interpretation of it at any rate.
-
"They might not like our methods, but our methods are working," Grisham told me in a recent conversation with regard to the NRA's pushback. "We're out there educating people on the street."
Calmly distributing informative pamphlets or proper gun-maintenance tips is educating people.
Walking into a family-friendly IHOP loaded with military-issue weapons and expecting everyone to not suddenly shit their pants in unison is….I...I actually don't know what that is or would accomplish aside from complete lunacy.
-
Why would anyone casually bring guns into restaurants with them? Because

Well, i for one won't give my precious cereal to any Leprechaun or rabbit that tries to steal it from me and i will take any measure necessary, God be damned.

If you separate politics, religious and caste intolerance, Education and male domination in the society are other key factors. Though, in my opinion, weak laws against Rapes cases is a crucial one. Indian laws are among the worst in the world. It practically took 17 years for the completion of 1993 blasts case. I am telling you, it is going to take more than 5 years to put those men behind bars. It is easy for the accused to be granted bails more than ever. People are getting away with their crimes. Very sorry state we are in right now, to be honest.
Doesn't the culture lead and contribute to the weak rape laws though? I agree on strengthening the rape laws, no brainer, but how effective of a deterrent will that be if the way people think about rape doesn't change?
This is not just a problem in India, I know, so I'm not trying to pin this all on on one country but you have knowledge and experience there so I'm asking about it in this case.

Another great little article with another angle on the idiots who bring AK-47s into restaurants.

I think the real question we should be asking open carry dudes is "who protects the unarmed from them"? The loud crazies in the pro-gun crowd go on with paranoid talk about being able to protect us from the government. To some extent, that argument is sensible. When a person with power tells you to trust that they won't abuse it, skepticism is a reasonable response. So why should we trust open carry gun owners not to abuse their weapons?

Their response to that would be something like, "But everyone can have guns and if someone starts shooting you can pull out your AK and we can all just start shooting each other."
Now that I think about it their method of ensuring safety is very similar to MAD except on a much smaller and less controllable scale.

Yeah, I would expect as much. Then we would all be on equal ground, all equally paranoid of each other.
Remember those people a while back that wanted to establish a walled gun carrier community in case the government came for their weapons? I want to see people actually do that as a test case and see just how long they last.

Lol, no I never heard of that particular case until now.
They should do a test and I imagine they'd turn it into a Reality Show about this community, but it probably wouldn't make it through its first season.

It really could work on TV. If they spread the footage out over 2 seasons, they could target multiple different crowds.
Season 1 starts off like the Real Housewives, ends with a huge cliffhanger before all hell breaks loose over a flipped table.
Season 2 is more like Survivor. But people actually die.
-
Well if they can find people dumb enough to get on a one-way ride to mars then surely they can find someone dumb enough to want to be the camera man in a reality show based around people living in gunlington, arkansawedoffshotgun. Probably a proffesion with alot of staff turnover

Ok, yeah, if people don't get shot or killed in the first season then I could see it lasting 2. I was thinking someone would get hurt the first season and then it'd be over.
For the record, I don't believe if you're a gun owner you're some kind of crazy shoot first ask questions later solve every problem with your pistols person. I just think an entire walled in gun carrying defense against the army community is a bit crazy, that's all.

You'd be captivated by that one-way trip to Mars though and it'd definitely be a huge step in advancing the scientific community. I just feel bad for the people if they actually go ahead with this idea and then they get regrets when it's too late.

The new and improved space program, brought to you by the NRA in association with dunno Fox or something.
12 untrained astronauts, all the booze they can space drink, and atleast one gun each. Who will make it to the end?
-
This is the planned community in question.
Season 1 footage:
-
My god, I just can't get over that ARMS ad at the top of the page. "Get an Assault Rifle… _before it's too late!_" LOL
"Pride in American Exceptionalism" yeeeeeeah 'murrrrricaaaa

…New Hampshire?

Trying to impeach a president because you weren't notified within 30 days of a prisoner exchange is so weak. Presidents have sent soldiers into armed conflict without notifying congress beforehand and have there been impeachment attempts from that? Probably, but at least that makes for a better case than, 'Oh, why didn't you tell us you were done with negotiations? We knew you were in negotiations but we didn't know you all reached a deal right now so IMPEACH!'

Their beloved Israel does this sort of thing all the fucking time lol.

headdesk Motherfuckers.
You had to have known that the long knives would be coming out from the moment they announced the exchange.
@Monkey:

Any port in a storm; I imagine this will get as much traction with the average person as any of the multitude of "scandals" that they've come up with over the past six years.
-
Why do they do this stuff. Like I get it appeals to the base but at this point the base is so terrified of moving even slightly to the left that they're not going anywhere. It's not actually going to happen so all their doing is talking. Is someone making money off this rhetoric? Otherwise, why. They're just throwing away the presidential election.
-
Well, for all that Hillary is the presumed front runner for the Dems in 2016… she IS a nearly 70 year old woman with a lot of bad history and a less than stellar record.
Reagan was the last time we had someone that old and that... did not go so well. And prior to that, Harrison who... died in 30 days.
-
I wonder how the poor guy that was released is gonna feel when he discovers people are actually angry because of the actions that freed him.
"Thanks, guys. It's nice to see you again too." -
This is the planned community in question.
Season 1 footage:
seriously people, watch this show
It's kinda getting weaker around season 5 and season 7 is arguably bad, but trailer park boys is great
much more fun than republicans -
And prior to that, Harrison who… died in 30 days.
The dumbass gave his inaugrual speech in the freezing rain, back in the day when medicine was lacking. Are we surprised?

Oh man, today we should remember the Tian'anmen protests.

Shooter in Moncton, 3 officers dead, 2 wounded and in hospital, I think they're still looking for the guy
-
Just when I thought that story couldn't get any more sickening.
-
So is there an actual chance that President Obama could be impeached over the Bergdahl transfer?
or are Republicans just throwing another bitch fit again.

Except in this particular case, I can't really blame the Republicans on this one. If Obama really did breach the law to lay down his terms on the prisoner exchange, then the right may have a legit case here, especially when you consider that 5 highly dangerous Taliban fighters, whom servicemen had to risk their lives to capture, had been freed in exchange for Bergdahl. You also need to factor in the possibility that these same fighters can take up violence once again against future U.S. targets.
Bitch Fit .
Justified bitch fit.

EGADS!
I was watching Jon Stewart and heard about these nutjobs and open carry guns in Texas….
From what I've read, it seems it legal to carry a rifle and AKs around!
"Texas law allows unlicensed rifles, though not handguns, to be carried on display in public." -quote from 2nd link
 makes me glad I've moved out of Texas!
I would have been calling the police if I saw a group of these idiots come into Wal-Mart…. esp since the store I worked at in Texas had at least 1 (if not 3) "Code Blue" calls (threat of bombing) each year… but seems it wouldn't do much good since its legal! :getlost:. I shudder to think what would happen if some nutjob would walk in carrying an AK. As a cashier I would have exersiced MY rights and not serve someone I felt threated by.... that's what the managers are for. -

Yeah even the NRA thinks these guys are a little bit nuts.
That is the part that got me laughing.
I mean if the big organization that is nuts thinks a certain group is nuts, then we sane people know they are really huge nuts. -
