If you ask me, Blackbeard cares for his crew. They seem to be friendly to one another most of the time, and Blackbeard has shown care for them, I forget the specifics though. I just remembered being shocked that Blackbeard even cared about his men, I thought he would kill them the moment they messed up but now I don't think he would do that at all.
One Piece 704: Lucy and the Statue of Kyros

Thank you for bringing this up! My believe has always been that BB is just the darker counterpart of Luffy. He's a vile man, but even vile men are allowed to care for their crew. BB may care for his crew just as much as Luffy cares for his. Well.. maybe not that much, but still.. yall get what I'm saying!
él es un hombre cariñoso~
Can't be sure with BB. He could be caring for them just because they would be like tools for his dream. Though, it would be good if he somewhat cares for them.
Oh, and still continuing with the spanish, didn't you forgot it in a post. -
I'm not sure I see this tournament coming to a normal conclusion, because if it did we would see Jesus being defeated at some point which would dehype him significantly.
there will be no normal conclusion. The Marine admiral will show up in the final and the pirates will have to unite forces for escaping.

one thing i dont like so much is how girls in op look so similar, especially the ones that are of any relevance to the plot.
most are tall, thin, booby and have good features. while we meet men of all kinds -

They sure use the same armorer! XD Now I hope to see Rebecca as a redhead XD

@Nex:
Well, I'm still not completely on board with this mini-arc, especially since it's still doing its best to kill the momentum we had leaving Punk Hazard, but this chapter went along way in winning me over for one reason: it's going to be short. Also, I only read like the first 3 pages so far, so forgive me if some of these ideas are old.
I'm thinking that the next two chapters will wrap up the rest of the Battle Royal round. Luffy and Bellamy will be in the same group. Bellamy will do his jumping thing, take everyone out, and then Luffy will one shot him just like before. Yes, that's my official prediction that's why it's in bold.
With all the people from the Don Quixote family it'll work out so it goes down like this: Rebecca will lose to Luffy. Pretty boy will lose to Luffy. It'll be Jesus and Luffy in the final. Luffy will be exposed, Jesus will back out. Luffy will win. He'll give the DF to Rebecca and they'll be temporary allies for at least the remainder of dealing with Doflamingo. Then she'll be asked to join the crew, but will decline saying she has work to do on the island, and she'll become yet another ally.
Actually if this arc goes down in such a predictable way, I'd be very disappointed.
Also, I'm slightly annoyed that so much of this chapter was spent showcasing characters that are going to quickly be defeated and forgotten.
Dude its called world building. I personally felt like the world sort of expanded since we have people who have obviously been doing their own thing, just a way to show that the world doesn't revolve around the straw hats but rather the straw hats occupy an actual living world.
As for your other points it seems to me that you're kind of trying to make yourself hate the story. If so too bad for you man.

Didn't occur to me, but now I will not be able to unsee. Nice pic, btw. The only thing that irks me about Rebecca's costume is that anime physics are the only thing keeping that top on. I'm looking forward to seeing her with her helmet off.
-
Wow, what a chapter!
-Cavendish. . . isn't that a french frie brand from Costco?
-Rebecca, oh yes, she's got the looks and can fight, put her on the list for next nakama
-I think those three guys with the numbers on them are apart of Kaido's crew, they have a the same number font style as Kaido's henchmen Scotch.
-Luffy is a G, that armor looks awesome on him to bad he had to take it off, loved his lion shield was that a reference towards the Thousand Sunny?
-LOL "Lucy" not Luffy! Haha! "I heard he's a 8 metre tall giant" oh man, if they knew it was Luffy they'd all run out by now.
-Good to see some big names in the arena!
-Jesus Burgees, what a beast. I loved how he rocked a paper bag over his face to remain annonymous, BB must have told him to keep it on but knowing his lack of intelligence he probally forgot and completely blew his cover. Like the beard he has going on as well. They mentioned first fleet, does that mean he is BB's first mate? If so I'm kind of dissapointed, I would say Van Augger is more first mate material than Burgees.
-Damn, if Jesus gets that mera mera no mi, can you imagine the size of the hiken. . . no comment.
-Must see that new rookie as well! -
Wow, what a chapter!
-Cavendish. . . isn't that a french frie brand from Costco?
Like many other supernovas, Cavendish is based on a real-life pirate.
Thomas Cavendish. -
Well, the One Piece tournament arc is starting off about as well as I could expect it to.
There were a glut of new characters introduced in this chapter, but with the free-for-all method used in the first fight, that'll knock out basically everyone we saw so far. Well, if there are only three spots left, we have Rebecca*, Cavendish, Bartolomeo and Luffy. Since we haven't actually seen Bartolomeo, I have to assume that he'll end up in the finals. So Cavendish or Rebecca will be eliminated. Rebecca already seems to have more storyline to her, but considering her status as "undefeated" it might be that she loses her fight to show off how powerful someone else is.
More importantly, Jesus is in charge of Blackbeard's "First Fleet." So, I guess he has been building up his numbers in the interim.
*She's probably Kyros' daughter, who was the former king of Dressrosa before Doflamingo took over. Pure speculation, but it makes sense to me.
-
Seriously… Sanji vs Cavendish would be lol worthy... Sanji beating him cuz of soemthing... Will fianlly get a proper poster but after it is HATED by women all around theworld
Man, you're a genius. What if the guy Sanji has to kill is Cavendish?! I mean - it'd make sense for Violet to be mad if he rejected her, for example. And women on Dressrosa are said to be super passionate that they stab lovers, or loved ones, so if he rejected her maybe she wants him dead? Anyways that's my theory concerning that part of the story.
-
These preliminaries are gonna be so damn crowded

Could the guys from the country of flowers also be related to kaidou as his subordinates? I noticed the cover page, kaidou's subordinate is numbered 18.
-
I think BB cares for his crew too, we haven't had a single hint pointing otherwise. Talking about his crew, I liked the fact that they were a small crew like the Strawhats, but in the case they're formed by way more members right now ( supported by the fact that Blackbeard seems to have many ships now ), I can't say it annoys me the least, but I would prefer them being only a few members. Not that it matters anyway because they will end fighting alone against Luffy and co. for sure, but still.

Thomas Cavendish.Come on Aohige, he isn't a supernova.

has anyone mentioned Oda calling out The Made up Massacre Adventurer Orombus aka christopher colombus, DAMN!
-
does anyone see burges as good revenge material for Ace?
-
Come on Aohige, he isn't a supernova.
He was a famous Rookie thats what he means, still many pirates in One Piece are based on real life pirates not just the Supernova.

I said what I thought of the "Undefeated" title a couple of pages back but I said it again, It seems that those guys are actually mocking her just the same way Sparta use to bulling her, that's why one those guys said to stop it, the title refers to Kyros and his 3000 battles since nobody in Dressrosa knows him but she admires him so much and may be that's why Sparta was mocking her.
That been said: the guy disappear 20 years ago, DD has been king of Dressrosa/shishibukai for 10 years and Rebeca seems like a pretty young girl around Nami's age may be, What If her hatred for DonF comes because he killed or did something to kyros but the con in this theory is that the elders of Dressrosa doesn't know about Kyros at all and another thing that can go with this Dressrosa doesn't know thing is that, It seems that they don't know about DD stepping down his title as shishibukai, we've seen rain powder, could there be memory powder.
PS: is DonF actually from Dressrosa or he just arrived one day and took over
-
What a crazy episode. So many new characters it almost reminds to the supernovas first appeareance.
Luffy keeps being dumb but this time was the kind of dumb thats fun to watch and not cringeworthy.
The narcisistic character would be boring if it weren't from the crazy touches (him eating the rose whole and being a ridiculous attentiowhore)
-
so Bellamy's alive!! knew it!!!
lots of people have some apologizing to do!!!

World expansion is always great, but since all of these people are going to be beat in the first round, we probably won't be seeing much of them. I would love to be wrong though.
And ME, trying to make myself hate the story? Really? I'm one of the few people who defend Fishmen Island. If anything I actively try to make myself like the story when it's not very good.
But it is undeniable that this tournament is killing the momentum. Ever since Punk Hazard closed One Piece was riding fast and hot all the way through 701. Then everything screeched to a halt. At the worst possible time. Here we are on a time crunch and we're getting a tournament. I know Oda will find a way to make it work, or, at least, I have faith that he will, but to have it now…
I'm sure it will work better in volume form, and once we actually get into the tournament proper things will probably pick up, but for now, it's just not the best time.

The way I see it, Oda will probably cut away from the tournament while Luffy is just loafing around and show us what the other teams are up to (probably Team Law and Zoro/Franky). I highly doubt Oda is going to show us the entire tournament so most of the fighting will be offscreen.
I also think there is a reason behind introducing these characters which was for 1.world building 2.Probably having a function during this arc and maybe sometime in the future. Even if they do get a beat down, that doesn't automatically remove them from the story (heck they might have a role to play when the shit hits the fan for Dressrosa which I am pretty confident it will happen eventually). Also it is feasible that the tournament never actually reaches a conclusion due to some twist. It is really difficult to predict what will happen at this point.
-
Knowing oda he can put up these characters to use even other than the tournament. Luffy is surely gonna befriend some of them. They could help the strawhats, there is also a room for some dirty politics.
-
jesus h. burgess…

What a fun chapter! Can't wait until alpha so I can pick out all the small details.
So the biggest topics of interest to me are, as others have said, how the world does not revolve around the Straw Hat's. Bellamy being revealed once again was a nice surprise and seemingly being sent their by Doflamningo will hopefully lead to another moment of discipline. This beautiful pirate sounds like such a typical pretty boy goon, his story is pretty interesting as well, I'd love for Sanji to ultimately kick the crap out of him. Though judging by his cockiness he is going to get a major dose of reality long before Sanji can one shot him. Dr Eggman and all the rest look absolutely fascinating. It's amazing how interesting and varied their designes are as well as their subtle back stories showing how the world does to rest.
Rebecca seems interesting and already set up as an ally to stick with the crew at least while on this island. She certainly has things going on that need to be fleshed out, so I'm looking forward to her development.
Kyros the bronze statue. So he was around up until 20 years ago. That makes him fall in line with Rogers's era and kept fighting at the colosseum until 4 years after Roger's death. I could see him being Schopper and going unnoticed with the helmet and new name. Or I could see him being a random man with some kind of Bronze fruit and he just watches over the colleseum during the day in statue mode. I'd much prefer it being a normal statue with Luffy strapping it to his back and hauling it to the Sunny, I mean is it not what he's wanted for so long now?
Jesus Berges, how great! I like the beard he's rocking and his "champion" belt is still in tact. Considering what we learned from Jinbe and how Teach wanted Ace in his crew, them going after the Flame Flame fruit just makes perfect sense. Had the tourney gone by without someone of his calibur entering I would have questioned why not? I don't see him or Luffy losing by any normal means, chances are a major upset will occur sending everything into chaos leading to an inconclusive fight.
The Black Beards having a structure similar to White Beard is not surprising, Teach did live and learn with the best after all. Nor is it surprising that Jesus is the first devision commander. He was with teach from the beginning and his attitude was always about being the champion. Though he will certainly have a fruit power by the end of the story if he doesn't have one now, his empty handed fighting style was always a good match for Sanji, and now with his possible "2nd in command" position he seems to be the perfect match up for Sanji.
There are sharks in the pool surrounding the fighting platform. Perfect!

can any of the arlong park translators tell me what the japanese word for fuck is and if oda has ever used it in the story before also it looks like bellamy will be in block c and will be oneshotted epicly by luffy after he uses his spring move to take out everybody else
-
One thing that irks me about his lineup for the tourney is that I'd love to see some faces from the allies of WB that was shown at the Paramount War. Just one or two from then would be fine. I mean they are captains in the New World, I'd really love to see any of them soon. Esp. since one or two may feel like Luffy and not want the Mera Mera no Mi go to just anyone. I figure Doflo would make sure some would not come though, he is a guy that likes to be in control of the events. @Devil:

Not that it matters anyway because they will end fighting alone against Luffy and co. for sure, but still.
IF he does have a big crew like Whitebeard did, then they would be shown same as the WB crew= emphasis on the bigshots and lesser crewmembers being nameless and showing up as background characters. I mean WB had 1,600 men on his crew and we know only 17 names in canon (16 commanders + Teach).
-
Interesting. So we have a bunch of new characters here as well as Bellamy and Burgess. I wouldn't imagine that Burgess would be taken out here though, Bellamy might again.
-
I figure Doflo would make sure some would not come though, he is a guy that likes to be in control of the events
I assumed as much, considering if anybody would want to get Ace's fruit, it'd be the members of his old crew.
-
@Gear:

I was gonna post this just now. They seem too interesting to just have them thrown off of the story this quickly.
And you know, I could totally imagine Doflamingo recommending Bellamy to go to the competition just to mock him, only in case he knew he lost to Luffy

What is with people on here wanting characters to get 1 hit KO**,** that's broing as hell I want to see some good fights.

OK, im not trying to rain on anyone elses parade here, but we do not know if it Rebecca and Spartan were in the same situation as Shanks and Higuma. We never saw the former pair interact, so we do not know if it was just Rebecca letting Spartan posture or if the two had similar power levels and Spartan used his attitude to try to push the sexy Gladiatrix around; if it is the latter case, I would less like Rebecca to join, though her attire still lends a few point…...........GOD DAMMIT I LOVE THAT OUTFIT!!!!!
-
Does anyone think Luffy might end up taking the statue with him?
I think there may be even at least one more occasion when he mentioned his desire for a bronze statue.
-
my god this chapter was amazing.too many people's names to remember. Great fights ahead. And Burges is there.Man Oda knows how too come back strong. Damn I love this arc. More potential crew members for people to argue over as well warrior rebbeca for nakama
-
@CCC:
That'd be great. Abe Shinzo and the other old conservative fucks with all the power will never be moved, but Oda could definitely make an allegory/parable to touch the hearts of the nation's children and try to get them to see how dumb jingoism is. The arc would end with the leaders of Ka and Wa shaking hands, snot running down their faces, saying "In the end, we're all just people." And then they'd all team up to pulverize North Kannokuni. And then Oda would get death threats from the nettouyo.
Yeah, the only problem is that North Kannokuni has the Buster so they're walking on eggshells…
-

He didn't use any Japanese words.
He literally said "fuckyou" in English. As in, "fakkyu-!" -
No I don't think so, but the "20 years ago" mentioned definedly has to do with Roger Pirates.
Maybe Kyros was Roger himself disguised just like Luffy

Other people have predicted a similar outcome.
I think there may be even at least one more occasion when he mentioned his desire for a bronze statue.
Wasn't it during the ride down from Skypiea, where the crew's admiring the gold? Or was that anime-only?
-
Why people keep saying those 4 will win Burgess+Cavendish+Lucy+Rebecca , is it because they got more screen this chapter come on Rebecca is weak she is out of question , Cavendish still rookie , it's doenst mean some characters greeting more ink by Oda to be the winner , burgess in one panel he winning his block , I believe the winners will be the unpredictables
-
Burgess being BB's first division commander is awesome, I hope Luffy and him face off towards the tourneys climax. I also wonder how much stronger bellamy has become, presumably he received some sort of power up to get back into flamingos good graces. It's probably out of the question but id really love to see Marco and what remains of the WB pirates play some sort of role in all this.
-
I get the feeling that Luffy isn't going to do much in his fight, my guess is it's either going to be another blast of haki and only 4 will be standing or he'll somehow 'blunder' through to try and hide his identity until later on!
As for the blind guy devil fruit with gravity? And if he is kyros and only lost once how and who to? Originally thought it might be Gol D Roger but 20 years isn't long enough ago? But still …think this arc has got so much explaining to do and i can't wait, it's the best one so far :D

Bellamy is alive? I guess this fall into Oda's "if a corpse wasn't shown then don't think it's dead".
Also, we got this arc's babe :ninja:

There wasn't a ton suggesting he was dead, this is no Pell situation.
