Luffy's going to want the mera-mera. If anything, it'll be a keepsake in the memory of Ace, someone very important to him. Saying he won't care about some stupid fruit is like saying he won't care about some stupid hat some guy gave to him after he lost some arm to save his life. Keepsakes mean a lot to Luffy, and he doesn't really have much to remember Ace by at this point. So if anything, he'll want that damned fruit. Now, the question of if someone will use the fruit and gain powers still stands as it's quite interesting to see who ends up with the mera-mera.

@Panda:
Oh god I can't type fast enough to keep up with this thread and I'm a fast typer oh man panic me panic.
I'll be blunt. (And attempt to be short-winded, since I know this is off topic). I see this opinion all the time from people that take issue with Oda tendency to not kill of characters, and I don't get it. At all. I completely disagree.
How does a character surviving undermine their sacrifice, in any way, whatsoever? It's like people insist on some cynical meta-interpretation of the story when it comes to this. Yes, at this point, we as readers can pretty much assume a character won't die in One Piece, but the characters themselves can't do that. Pell was still willing to give his life to save his country and its people, and the fact that in the end he didn't have to doesn't change that, or make it any less noble.
I know it's ridiculous to compare things from a shonen manga to real life, but I'm going to do it anyway. I feel like it would be akin to someone tossing themselves in front of you to take a bullet that would have killed you, and then later on you not expressing any gratitude because sure, they saved your life, and sure, they could well have died, but in reality the bullet only ended up doing minor damage to them and they'll be fine within the week.
I'll stop now, because again, off-topic, I know, I know; I just saw it got brought up, and it's just a frustrating point to me because it seems like such a common view, and I don't understand why, because it just comes across as so absurd to me.
so true, sir.. so true.. thanks for this post
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
In the internal logic of the story/characters, it doesn't really undermine anything, and therefore on some level, it's perfectly valid.
But in the context of a story that refuses to allow death in all but a few distinct exceptions, it's a slap in the face to the readers whose emotions it is attempting to affect. To use your example of stepping in front of a bullet, it's more like someone jumping in front a bullet trying to save your life, but then finding out that it was only a pistachio and your life was never in danger to begin with. The more pistachios you see, the more those tearful sacrifices are going to appear tiresome and comical, which is antithetical to the purpose of the scene.
but when it come to Pell, i doubt that anybody feel sad about him at that time.. even Oda didn't really make a big deal about that moment..

That's the difference between the hat and the fruit. The hat was giving to him by Shanks and it reminds him of his promise which required the hat anyway while the fruit is just a power of Ace and he have spent his good time with his brother when he didn't have it.

harumph. You raise a good point, haha
I guess we'll just have to see what happens soon enough.
-
Sigh one thing I really hate about this chapter…same thing I've hated about last few chapters...
Usopp's hat is a fishbowl!!! It needs to burn!Well the crew fashion those day is kind of strange.
But seriously I really hope change that that coat. I can't stand that coat. He has to get his shirt back.

I am kinda confused.
Did Law really leave CC in Green Bit or was it a lie and they are heading to Dressrossa?

Now on a totally different note,
TolkienOP has a new strip out inspiered by ch 700.

yeah, nami was invested on bellemere's mikan, how much more if the fruit was part of your loved one's body, right?
there are two things i'm predicting out of it, luffy will keep it (and will give it a final rest when they pass by ace's grave…who knows, maybe he'll see sabo drinking there)
or someone accidentally eats it, and luffy makes him join....i doubt anyone from the crew eats it since they have established fighting styles.
if anyone in the crew would have a devil crew it would be ussop, and its not ussop who would eat it, his weapon would eat it.

They are docking in Dressrosa and will bring CC to Green Bit in 8 hours during the scheduled meet.
I'm curious who'll end up on guard duty though to watch CC until then.
-

Ceasar is still on board. And they're going to Dressrosa. Will they take a detour to leave ceasar at green bit, I don't know but I doubt it since it's just a decoy.
-
the best bet for guarding cesar is chopper imo. doflamingo doesnt know him and he can shapeshift.
-
Rushing through? You do realise that there's a lot to be covered right. It's not to soon for anything.Having to wait until chapter 1000 to fight big names is the most illogical thing I've heard.
it's not about chapters it's about real time…if this continues luffy will be pirate king by 20, and his adventure is done...I wonder what everyone will do then..

Posting this here in addition to the shichibukai thread as it pertains to the current chapter:
Personally I think that the Shichi system was initially established because the WG wanted a few specific insanely strong pirates on their side in order to reduce the trouble they had to deal with. I am referring specifically to Mihawk and Doflamingo. Then over time the numbers grew, and they even added Jimbe for political reasons.
So my personal view on why the WG insisted on keeping the shichibukai system in place UP UNTIL NOW despite the high turnover is because up until this point, the most important members have stayed in the system.
If I were running the WG now, I would probably be re-evaluating the worth of keeping the system, now that DD quit
First let's recall the costs to the WG so far by having the shichi in place:
- Crocodile almost took over a kingdom and released the ancient weapon Pluton, which would have caused utter chaos to world stability. In return the only way he helped the WG was by trashing a couple of no-name pirates in Alabasta. This is a terrible investment for the WG
- Blackbeard took his spot, and almost immediately he used the position to raid Impel Down, freed a shittonne of level 6 convicts, then proceeded to crash the party at the Marineford War.
- Jimbe quit, and fishman-WG relations are at an all-time low
- Hancock abused her status to get Luffy into Impel Down, then used her status again to shelter him after the war.
- Moria ironically performed his intended function the best, which is to defeat as many other pirates as possible. But in the end he was weak enough that he got defeated by a rookie pirate and hurt the reputation of the shichibukai as a whole
- DD's been doing small naughty things since day 1, which the WG is willing to ignore. But recently it's come to light that he is directly weakening the WG by selling devil fruits and weapons of mass destruction to the underworld.
Now Let's look at the state of affairs:
1)Hancock, great as she is, is not really THAT important of an asset to the WG.
2)Kuma is already a robot, and would obey the WG even if he wasn't a warlord
3)Law, despite his popularity with the fangirls, is clearly a lower tier, and doesn't hold that much strategic value to the government. And now because of his recent actions there is a high probability his warlord status will be revoked.
4) Buggy: I'm really not sure about how the WG thinks about him. Either the WG is really smart and is using Buggy's reputation to their advantage, or they are really stupid and actually believe Buggy is some sort of legendary pirate.
5) Newest warlord: Z crushed him and captured him before, and he apparently begged for his life…he can't be that impressiveAt this point, I think it would be more beneficial to the WG to just work out some sort of exclusive deal with Mihawk. Almost a "ichi"-bukai per say, as the others remaining on the current roster are clearly a bigger liability to the WG than the value they contribute.
I believe that a dominant theme in the New World is the "new age" and "Change in the status quo". Personally I think there is a good chance we will see a dramatic overhaul of the shichibukai system, if not a complete dissolution. **In summary, if the government dissolves the Shichibukai now, they are effectively only losing the support of Hancock, Buggy, and this newest 7th member. If you do the math, it's really not that significant of a loss for the WG from a tactical perspective. The benefit would be that they no longer need to offer rediculous sanctions and benefits to 7 pirates at any given time, who in all likelihood are only in the shichibukai to abuse the system.
Thoughts?**
In addition to all of that, there's also the fact that Akainu would love any excuse to get rid of these scum sea brigands anyway

Not to mention there's the lulz factor of the Buggy reveal getting instantly invalidated

I´m very pleased after reading this chapter.
Regarding Fujitoras powers, I´m unsure if someone has said this before but I´ll just put my thoughts about it.
1. Radioactivity: Ok so he´s got a purple team with a wild carnivore to go with it. To be fair very few phenomena in the world surpasses the danger level that atomic radiation has; blow up the core of an atom and irradiate some rays upon poor living people, animals, plants, whatever. The result is mutation. We haven´t had a DF that deals with mutation; yes we had the hormone one but hormones and mutation via radiation are two completely different events. Atoms and radiation are also portrayed with purple-ish colours in different anime and manga.
2. Magnetism: I just had to write it down, but I know that Kid already has this power so even if it matches I know its a big NO!
3. Purple Amber: Now amber is basically solidyfied resin from a tree, and it can come in a wide array of colors, among them purple. Amber is refered as a healing element for those who believe in the flow of energy and stuff see http://www.charmsoflight.com/amber-healing-properties.html. So a healer admiral wouldn´t be out of reach. we havent had the healer type so far, well not that many besides Marco and Ivankov both due to different reasons.
4. Dyes-Ink: Chemical compounds have served different purposes throughtout history a dye logia as ridiculous as it may sound might actually be withing the range of believable.
5. Some research about the colour yield that purple is also related to faith, royalty, piety and theology. So a powerful faith related "oracle"-"angel"-"Demon" may be the angle that ODA is taking for this character. Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple
6. Aura is another element related to the purple theme. Even if the yomi yomi is related to the soul, the aura might affect people in the mood they have and maybe the degree of luck.
7. Acid is another compound related to the purple theme and pretty lethal. Even if Big Mum has shown some strange organic fluids slipping out of her mouth, it wouldn´t be a surprise if Fujitora was an acid tiger.
8. Gum is purple too. Not the rubber class but the sticky one, so a "Gum-ish tiger" might be funny, though I wouldn´t see him too lethal, yet pretty much a catch whoever he faces endgame.
9. Sapphire and amethist are precious gems. The second one is sure to be purple but the first one ranges from a deep blue to a purplish tone..
Well these are m two cents of some items I found that might be linked to the purple color. Any thoughts?
-
the best bet for guarding cesar is chopper imo. doflamingo doesnt know him and he can shapeshift.
Well if Doflamingo end up in the sunny he will surely stomped Chopper either way for being between him and Ceasar.

@Alpha:
Overall it was a good chapter.
So many old faces were popping up and it seems as if the news of the alliances being created have spread amongst the One Piece world, excellent.
New names were also mentioned, looking forward to seeing them in the flesh in the chapters to come.
So, the mera mera has respanwed, makes me wonder how DD got a hand on it. From what I can think of, I guess he put a price on the fruit after Ace's death and whoever could retrieve it for him would get the monetary reward. But, to think, he would plan that far ahead knowing that his path would cross Luffy's is just pure genius on his part. Truly, impressive. DD's henchmen are quite awkward to say the least, but hey, I like it.
I'm wondering if Zoro will get the mera mera no mi and apply it to one of his swords, he always said he wanted a flame sword. If that's not the case, I'd love to see someone amongst the crew take a chomp at it. I do not however, want it to go to Coby, find your own fruit or become an admiral off pure raw power and skill.
I look froward to the chapters to come, things are really going to heat up.
it sounds very far fetched that he predicted he will cross paths luffy so he acquired the meta meta no mi…I mean c'mon! It's just a powerful fruit and like any power hungry ruler and dealer acquired it for business or military power...it just happened that he came across luffy and had a brain wave..
-

Well, he kept it for 2 years. And Luffy has a thing for causing problem to the government so…

i personally liked the ink-ink fruit. many possibilities there.
-
Hmm i wonder what Law and Luffy plan on doing at Dresrossa so early, the deal with Ceaser is in 8 hours and they already arrived so if they dock surely Doflamingo will know that they arrived since he has eyes all over the island so he'll go find Law and Luffy and string them upside down, so either theyll have to remain hidden from everybody so nobody notices them but with Luffy there i highly doubt he'd keep quiet.
-
Hot damn, 57 pages already? We're upping our post counts on these threads.
-
Why is Baby 5 still alive after she got shot? Why did the guy shoot her anyway?
So no one has an idea?
Some stuff really weirds me out lately.

As for Bonney making an appearance this chapter, whatever happened to this?
http://www.mangapanda.com/103-56333-18/one-piece/chapter-595.html
IS she the governments connection to the underground?
-
I liked the touch that Law got onigiri for breakfast instead of sandwiches since he hates bread.
All in all, lovely chapter! -
someone brought up the ink-ink fruit for fujitora…i liked that a lot. it got many possibilities.
- he can draw something to himself to power him up or something.
- he can draw something on the enemy (one that cannot be erased, unlike ms. goldenweek) to put a disadvantage.
- he can send ink-slashes.
- he can draw something in the air and make it his minions.
- even when dying his blood consists of ink and maybe he can cast poison on anyone who touches it.
something like these guys:
this guy who kurama fought
and his punches produces ink slashes like this:

Chapter 700 Review:
- Looks like Caribou is going deeper into Kaidou's island. Neat looking industrial area.
- Another neat plot nod in the ultra-journalist Abusa. Wonder where that is going?
- Nice to see Bonney, Jinbe and the Kid/Apoo/Hawkins alliance for the news. Looks like Dolflamingo's resignation has his underworld customers in an uproar.
- I wonder if we'll get an all 9 Supernova Captain alliance at some point…
- Luffy and Dolflamingo's conversation was hilariously awesome. I've been waiting for this talk for awhile. I wonder what "pace" is?
- So Green Bit is a decoy? Interesting plan.
- New World rabbit water?
- Law face = Fangirl explosion across the internet.
- So Bepo and the others are on a place called Zou. Another plot abound since Kinemon and Momo are heading there.
- I wonder if clockwork top-hat man is actually Kanjuro...
- Buggy confirmed for Shichibukai along with another mystery man. Dolflamingo's "Sky-Devil" name was cool.
- Fujitora? How many new things does this chapter provide! Nice to see the new Marine HQ, Sakazuki and Brandnew again.
- So a council of 4 seats rule Dressrosa, lead by Dolflamingo I assume. The frantic Diamante, creepy Trebol and some big robot man join the Donquixote family with their appearance.
- So our alliance reaches Dressrosa...and Dolflamingo reveals he has a nice plump trump card.
Overall: Solid wrap-up/opening chapter. We get to see alot of old faces plus some new ones. Looks like Dolflamingo has quite the unique crew of pirates working for him. Marine HQ looks great but it looks like a McDonald's endorsement. If Oda did anything this chapter it's that he is establishing his multiple plots for the New World. I have a feeling this arc will get nasty very fast.
-
Does anyone know why does Brandnew call Akainu admiral? Instead of fleet admiral, maybe he is doing both.

Originally posted this theory about Fujitora around page5, but they barrelled past at light speed then: Jewelry Bonney IS Fujitora.
Reasoning:
We see JB in this issue on a snow island. Last we saw she was captured by the Navy.
In this chapter we see the Navy saying they've already sent Fujitora to investigate.
This would explain why JB is free. And Punk Hazard has got it's fair share of snow.
The translation suggests a pink/ purple colour scheme which would fit JB.
JB may not like the Navy but she has a bigger grudge against Blackbeard and is not fond of the Straw Hats.
JB already has a link to the Navy, we know from Akainu, what that is we don't know. It's slim but there's no evidence the directly counters it.

that alone makes the idea worthwile.
So no one has an idea?
Some stuff really weirds me out lately.
he shot her because she was attacking doffy.didn't you figure that out?
and she didn't die because this is one piece.it was onlyt a bullet wound.and she's supposed to be one of the fighters of the don.you can't expect her to die from just a bullet wound.I liked the touch that Law got onigiri for breakfast instead of sandwiches since he hates bread.
All in all, lovely chapter!i liked it too.
also, that franky scene where everyone was goes "big bro" was just awesome. -
I'll stop reading one piece if bonney is fujitora and is able to take down law/luffy/doflamingo.
On another note, does anyone else feel really on the fence about doflamingo's personality and overall presence?
One chapter he's menacing and dangerous as f*ck but then the next he's throwing spaghetti everywhere, this went on for atleast 4 chapters.
I just think that his crews quirkyness for lack of better word brings a positive light toward his character, and really diminishes my view on him as being a really dangerous guy - don't get me wrong here, I just want to see doflamingo pissed off more often, Oda does it so well. -

If fujitora is an admiral (since it hasn't been confirmed but heavily hinted) I don't think it could be JB. You don't get from 11 supernova to one of the three main forces of the marine in 2 years. If fujitora isn't an admiral, then maybe it could be bonney.
And about her freedom, maybe she is Sakazuki's daughter. But He only let her free with the condition of retiring from piracy, hence she hides all the time
–--- Added in the edit---
About Dofla I think is just Oda giving life to a character, showing us he isn't a horrible villian of pure evilness, but instead he actually cares about his crew, and his crew cares about him. Also it could be the conquerors haki, it has been said that the ones with that power are usually leader types liked (Not necesarily good) by his partners
-
So no one has an idea?
Some stuff really weirds me out lately.
Cause her fruit works like a logia? Go back to that chapter where she explodes on General Franky–she reforms like a logia does.
-
It's slim but there's no evidence the directly counters it.
Don't ever, EVER use this in arguments. It will always be counterproductive to your stance. Always.
I can claim there's no evidence that counters a theory that Zoro actually doesn't have a penis.
Or that Vegeta took a piss in the West Blue. We were never told he didn't. -
@CCC:
This doesn't seem like a foregone conclusion. The mystery freelance reporter is Absalom, but Kid didn't know that. Seems more likely that Absalom snuck into the hideout to get the information, and then fled the next morning on the TB ship.
Yes, but how could they not sense him with observation haki? You would think that Kid, Apo, Hawkins would have it.
-
I don't wanna disappoint the english-native-speakers here, but I doubt the snot-guy is called Trevor. IMO it is Trebol (means "cross" in spanish). Diamante is spanish for "diamond".
So the "spade" guy could be called "Pica" and the "heart" guy "Bucha".
After all I think the "real" Donquixote was also Spain, wasn't he? -
by the way, to those who are looking for the ace/trump card on the doflamingo deck….
he already got it. the devil fruit of (Ace)...so i doubt luffy would just ignore it, the fruit will play a major factor in the series, especially on the emotional investment stuff.
-
I don't agree with the "Law is the heart guy"-theory. It's just TOO plain and simple predictable.
After all, "Pica" should have been replaced by Ace a long time ago if it went that way.
I guess those card-symbol guys are either former division commander of the DD-pirates or at least his first and most trustful members. Trébol calls DD "Doffy" to begin with. Everyone else says young master, at least.DD said he reserved that seat to Law and the seat was empty unlike the other 3, so whats the big mystery? its not about being predictable its about facts, DD said it, unless DD is the owner of the heart seat till Law supposedly gets it(or would get it) the seat is empty.
-

Well not DD himself, but Baby 5 said it when she saw him come out the tunnel with SH in PH
-
7th warlord could be kuzan? makes sense brandnew wouldn't want to mention his name directly in front of ole red dog, as i'm sure they are probably talking about him anyway. he's very dangerous as an ex-marine, especially because of his involvement with robin, and ohara, and the dangerous nature of those things. only rational thing i can say against this is that, he's such a loner, that he may not really be eligible because of that. sure, law has a small crew, but he paid his way in with hearts. i'm just comparing given all we've learned about 'mingo's dealings this chapter. i dunno, very Oda way of getting away with it being kuzan if you ask me. aint gonna put money on it though. or perhaps they are still in the process of assigning a new warlord, but it's not official.
chapter was wildly on point as far as what i enjoy about OP. even though i'd love to see all the new faces coming up, i would love for this to be the arc where the SH's have to face eachother (in the coliseum), and possibly with mingo controlling the weaker SH's? i know that sounds scary but gawd, drool fest for the fans.
i see the SH's having the mera mera more of a liability than an asset. however, i would also love for the fruit itself to be a point of dischord between the nakama themselves. i've also secretly dreamed about a mini arc where the crew is lost/directionless, without food for a long time, and they become eachother's enemies. JUST for the characterization, dialogue, and development. i think oda shines in these moments, that's all.
HIGHLY dissapointed that basil hawkins CoO wasn't able to detect absalom. i wonder if moria/hogback has improved/modified absalom's body?
fingers crossed we see diez drake soon.
-
I can really imagine Doflamingo having cut a little piece off of the Mera Mera, and then when Luffy comes and gets it and runs off with the fruit Doflamingo lets one of his crewmembers eat the little piece to give him the power. then after a while when Luffy opens the box again to look at the fruit it became an ordinary apple.
-
Oh, $hit, sorry! Totally forgot bout that. Could you give me a link to that chap.
Well, in that case, I was wrong. But it is interesting how much DD trusted Law b4 he betrayed him.Chapter 695, page 8, it's actually Buffalo's line.
-
Good point. The way I meant to phrase it is the arguments against her being Fujitora are mostly assumptions as well; Fujitora is an admiral, notorious pirates cannot be in the navy, Jewelry is acting without oversight, etc.
It's late and touch-typing on a very small phone kilt the brainmeats.
-
kuzan the shichibukai? why would he serve under akainu?
-
I hope that Law will summon his crew for assistance at some point soon, so we can get some Bepo action.
-
Well, she is on a snow island…
The only snow islands we've seen in the New World are:1: Punk Hazard (nope)
2: Kaidou's Favorite Island (probably not)
3: Shanks's Island, Yukiryu (maybe)So maybe Shanks saved her?
That would only work, if this was Shanks' hideout island. I doubt that, cause when he met Mihawk they were on a summer-like island.

You just try to push your personal belief as a fact, just like how you tried your best to prove there wouldn't be any new admirals. Ignoring actual facts and just pushing your personal belief seems to be your specialty.
Not saying the OP Wikia is correct, but you are not right either. Saying Blackbeards animal counterpart is a bearded pig just because Jewelry insulted him with that word is like saying if I call you a slimy pig your animal counterpart will be a slimy pig.
-
Shirahoshi? I don't think Bonney likely either, but come on. Shirahoshi's chances are 0%. Bonney maybe 15-20%.
It's the other way around. Shirahoshi - 20%, Bonney - 0%.
-
Kuzan resigning as an Admiral and then going for a position in the shichibukai is pretty dumb.
-
Bummed…
I thought Luffy's heart was in the box. Why the donk would he care about his brother's fruit? Seems extremely unimportant in the path to Pirate King. Would Luffy really care? I think not.
