Disney's Star Wars
-
loooooooooooooool
-
They also get all of Lucasfilms production stuff. So, ILM and Skywalker Sound. (so they're now involved in like… every movie ever made.)
And Episode 7 hits in 2015.
-
Maybe they can make a Star Wars prequel that doesn't suck?
-
Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers." He'll be "overseeing" the new films, but hopefully he'll be staying out of it mostly.
Also, expect a new theme park at Disney World. That hasn't been announced yet, but… expect it.
-
I wholeheartedly expect more Star Wars material than ever before.
like Disney would pass milking the franchise for all its worth
-
…...Actually, I think this is a good thing.
-
PREDICTION:
2015 will be a good year for Disney.
-
3 New films .
The creators of Once Upon a Time are jerking off right now.
-
…Yeah actually this is probably for the best.
-
Oh boy, wait until my roommates get a wind of this.
Unless these new films take place far in the universe's future or something, I can't wait to see the next batch of retcons the Expanded Universe pulls to try to keep everything consistent.
-
Maybe it's going to be the content of the planned TV seires, like the underworld, gangs and that.
Though that sounds a little shit and insignificant to make 3 movies out of.
-
Can Disney release the untouched original trilogy now? If so…
-
Can Disney release the untouched original trilogy now? If so…
Sure, but they'll probably wait till 2015 to tie into the new movie.
-
So I guess this means that they have ILM too. That I actually find interesting, and not in the ''unnerving apprehension'' way.
-
@RobbyBevard:
Sure, but they'll probably wait till 2015 to tie into the new movie.
Better then never.
-
I think that the prequels have done so much damage that whether Episode VII is good or bad, it will be perceived as bad
I'm betting on better than expected
-
This feels so weird. I wonder what's gonna happen to all those Dark Horse Star Wars comics now?
-
woo can't wait for the Jar Jar Binks centered-movie
Nah, I'm actually pretty excited for this. I have a feeling they'll probably exceed our expectations quite a bit.
-
People are seriously acting like this is the end of Star Wars.
The past five years have been the end of Star Wars. Not to mention, look at how Marvel is doing lately.
-
Thrawn or bust.
It'll propably be Clone Wars for the umpteenth time though
-
@The:

Disney will probably have to buy those rights back. Dark Horse separately owns the license to make comic books, much like Fox and Sony can make Marvel movies.
-
Wait so Disney can now make sure Lucas can't stick his dick into Star Wars now?
This is the best thing.
-
I…surprisingly don't care all that much. I used to be huge into Star Wars, but it's been hard to care about it the past several years.
Here's hoping that Disney will handle it better than Lucas did. I used to think people were overreacting to some of his decisions, but many of them were truly awful.
-
I've never been huge with Star Wars, but I've always respected it.
The Phantom Menace wasn't… the WORST movie I've ever seen, but the next two movies were far worse.
This is honestly wonderful news for Star Wars fans, whether they think so or not.
-

Oh cool, thanks.
-
I mean, think of the possibilities. Look at how amazingly Marvel is doing now.
Just think:
Star Wars, Episode VII
Directed by Joss Whedon(that's my final fantasy, unf)
-
Disney should buy Joss Whedon's entire filmography from Fox and make a Star Wars/Firefly/Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
-
Wait so Disney can now make sure Lucas can't stick his dick into Star Wars now? This is the best thing.
Huh. Maybe this is for the best?
-
Disney is buying everything lately
-
No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
-
Im not sure if i should be happy or sad about this.
-
The fact that Lucas can't stick his light-saber into Star Wars makes me surprised that he settled for the pocket change (in his mind) of $4bil.
-
Star Wars episode VII set for 2015
UPDATE: Disney announces in an investor conference call after today's announcement that they intend to make more than one new Star Wars movie, beginning with Episode VII in 2015 followed by Episodes VIII and IX "every other year" and then "we'll go from there."
They didn't waste any time
-
I think this is the first time I heard of a buyout that I actually think is a good idea. Anyway, for the new film, I hope they just decide to make a new story set in the same universe rather than trying to focus on the same ones we already know.
When do we get the Marvel/Star Wars crossover? :ninja:
-
Wait so Disney can now make sure Lucas can't stick his dick into Star Wars now?
This is the best thing.
My thoughts exactly!
Now if Ep VII sucks, well….....
-
Star wars will now be in Kingdom Hearts 3
-
@The:
Thrawn or bust.
It'll propably be Clone Wars for the umpteenth time though
Everyone says the Thrawn trilogy should be episodes 7-9. Everyone.
And yes it follows the core crew well and brought us the Noghri, Mara Jade, Talon Karde and Thrawn himself was pretty cool.
But what about it would make it good movies to follow up?
! Especially since those books take place only 5 years later, while the entire cast will have aged 40 years by the time it comes out, and the books were written before the prequels even existed? (They were written over 22 years ago!)
! They were well written books, and they're what everyone goes to for the shape of the SW universe post-movie, and they had two or three really influential new characters in them, and there were 3 of them. But why is that the defacto sequel everyone wants to see?
! It was mostly politics and talking as I remember, and a large chunk of the plot revolved around cloning facilities (well, prequels did that) a bunch of dreadnaughts that don't ultimately amount to much (and aren't as impressive a death star) not a whole lot of action… C'baoth is incredibly forgettable despite being a major force throughout the three books (totally overshadowed by Thrawn) and ultimately the trilogy ends with a seriously anti-climactic finale for Thrawn who never meets or interacts with any of the main cast and spends the entire trilogy on the bridge of a starship.I think it'd make for a good movie with some tweaks. The Luke and Mara stuff is good, and Thrawn is great. But a whole trilogy? Eh. Especially since its 30 years too late to use the original cast in roles at all similar to the books.
Any event. Do the sequels everyone has wanted for forever, then go the James Bond route. Random new stories in that universe every two or three years (and they dont all need be trilogies) are fine by me.

Honestly, I think Disney owning ILM and Lucas Sound is the most interesting part of the deal, but everyone's ignoring the fact that Disney now does in fact, own the world.
They also have Indiana Jones, but thats harder to see anything happening without Harrison Ford… for now.
-
I came here to post this. Kinda shocked lol
-
I'm… actually fine with this. Yeah, this might actually be pretty good. I mean, nothing can be worse than the prequels.
As long as Lucas stays far, far away from this, this could be good.
But seriously, nothing good has come out of the Star Wars franchise for years (maybe the comics and such though, never actually read any of them), so it can only go up from here.
-
-
I wonder how many people remember The Hand That Rocks The Cradle ? It's not exactly a "Disney Movie", yet the studio that directed/produced it was owned by Disney.
Disney doesn't always replace the entire staff after buying out another company. But that doesn't guarantee that they can make a good Star Wars movie, either.
Will yBulletin be next on Disney's acquisitions?
-
Love how people are screaming doom about this, can't be any worse than Episode 2. (Although watching the entire six of them for the first time in years a few weeks back made me realise that the classic trilogy aint what they were cracked up to be.)
also. Does this mean Disney own Indiana Jones now?
-

Yep:
@RobbyBevard:

EDIT: They also owe ILM and Lucas Sound now. Not related.

i dont care if Lucas is involved or not, just allow it to DIE is all
lets just have like the stuff that's there and that's it
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
also because Disney is a total crapshoot for how good it will be, it could be posisbly even worse than anothe rlucas movie
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
i dont understand how people are excited, its like hearing that the rolling stones are making a new album in 2012
-
In all seriousness, I remain cautiously optimistic about this. I love Star Wars, and yes, the prequels were pretty lousy so it's nice to have the franchise out of George Lucas' hands (for the most part). I hope Disney does well by it.
@Monkey:

I believe that ship has long since sailed, my friend.

A crapshoot is better than a crap certainty.
