Hmm I've compared several sites and read the line from Brook, At Mangastram he says he got the sword from the Longarm Tribe. At both Mangafox and Mangareader Brook says it was sharpened by the Longarm Tribe. Huh Makes me wonder which one is correct.
Chapter 643: "Phantom" -Discussion

Luffy isn't going to convince Hody of anything, no matter how many times he punches him in the face. This is the intro to the New World, my friends, and it ain't just going to be about showing off how powerful Luffy's rubber is nowadays. It'll also serve as a reminder of the fact that these New World types don't play, and they'll need to be dealt with or judged in… different ways. This guy won't get any better. I dunno. I'm not saying I expect OP to turn into a gorefest. I don't imagine Luffy staging public executions any time soon, haha. But, yeah, Hody COULD bite the bullet, right?
Anyone else wondering about a sudden intrusion by a reformed Arlong? I mean, what better time, right? I dunno. I just can't get the thought out of my head.
-
It's the name of an unknown location where Cricket & co are sailing off to explore. It's not a usual Japanese term by itself, so it has no meaning as of now.
In case people are still confused:
Thanks maam

U know, I thought the same thing for a short time yesterday.
I wonder which side he would choose in that conflict.
But if it was Hody's side, he'd be the PERFECT OPPONENT 4 NAMI!
On the other side this is very unlikely 2 happen.
And really guys:
b4 Hody joins, IMO VDD could join like 10 times.
He is way more funny thus fittin the SHs than Hody could ever be.
Nevertheless atm evrything points @ Jinbe. -
Arlong would make the perfect opponent for Nami, the conflict would show much stronger she has become, that she can now surpass the one fishman that she fears/feared the most.
Another possibility is of a reformed Arlong, who perhaps tries to make amends with Nami.
It is entirely possible he is going to make some kind of appearance, I have also been kicking around the possibility of him showing up.

come one man, make ammends with Nami? Are you kidding me? he killed her mother in front of her very eyes. It's one thing for Nami to forgive Hachi, but Arlong??? I think not. Nami would probably kill him on sight, or seeing this is One piece, hurt him severly.
But if that situation would ever happen I would like to see One Piece become a bit more Berserk style. . . -
Alright, this chapter was great. It portrayed Hody as this monster whos wrapped up in the hatred between humans and fishmen.
Now that I know this, I'm ready for the next chapter already! -
I'm not sure if Arlong is still alive to suddenly show up. Can someone tell me which is the more reliable site, Mangahere or Mangafox??
There is a difference in the translations in ch 629 when Jinbe is arguing with Luffy. One site had him say that some think tht Arlong was hunted down by humans because he was a fishman (this at Mangahere). Mangafox's translation was very different in that it implied Arlong was dead= "There are more than a few who think … that he was culled by the humans because he was a fishman!"
The phrase of "being culled" implies that Arlong's dead(likely executed after arrest if that happened), while "was hunted down" jsut implies he was captured but a possiblity of being alive, so that's why I wonder which is a better rep at translation.
-
I wonder if Nami would still want to get revenge on Arlong… she passed a perfect opportunity to do whatever she wanted to his unconscious body after Luffy was done beating him up. Obviously her memories still cause her pain, but I got the impression she'd rather work on them by building friendly relationships with fishmen and merfolk who don't think humans are all scum.

Well, i know that far, what i was asking was if it could be a word from another language, or a mix between a japanese word and one from another language, or something like that.
For example, naku is to cry in japanese if i'm not mistaken, and a romanization of rowa could be roi which is the french for king -

I'm no expert on the accuracy of translations, but lately I just stick with Cnet's translations if I ever want clarification on anything. You can find Cnet's translations over at mangahelpers. I'd say that Arlong is alive, the hunted down translation seems more accurate. Besides, even if Jinbe did say it in a way that it sounded like Arlong died, Jinbe was only relaying to Luffy the rumours he overheard in fishman island, it doesn't mean that it's actually true. He is just pointing out how much fishmen distrust humans due to past experiences.
-
Mark my words! I'm sure you will eat up everything you guys have said so far. Hodi Jones will be the final nakama! End of Story.

@Aka:

Yes, Hodi is no better than the Nazis.
Some would want Hodi to be tortured but it would be seen by other fishmen esp future generations, as justification for Hodi's actions. So the best way is to hope that the ES he keeps popping will kill Hodi, now that would be an example for future generations, don't do drugs is one thing but mixing racism and drugs leads psychopaths planning genocide. -
Going on the theory that Chopper will treat Hody, and the big deal that's been made of it so far: Hody will receive a transfusion of human blood. He will not be pleased.
Better yet, he'll get a transfusion of blood from LUFFY. Or maybe from Shirahoshi. That is, if Oda really wants to hammer in the whole "Everyone can be redeemed, even genocidal drugged up Nazi crew-killing Fishmen" meme. It'd be very poetic (though very cliche) and would probably be the ultimate insult to Hodi Jones.
EDIT: Actually it would be better if Hodi got the transfusion, and then proceeded to commit suicide over the "Disgrace" of it. Such a fiery ball of hatred that he'd rather die than live knowing his life was saved by a human/nice Fishman. It would also (sort of) be the opposite of FT, which makes sense since he's like the opposite of FT in that the latter had every reason to hate humans but died claiming that future Fishman shouldn't hate humans.

Ok, I'm going to bookmark your post so I can quote you when the arc is over.

At this point I think its likely he's trolling us

Brook was awesome in the chapter :D
I hope they show more of the Brook Vs Zeo fight next week -

For example, naku is to cry in japanese if i'm not mistaken, and a romanization of rowa could be roi which is the french for kingYeah, but without any other context to back it by, it could refer to many things. I do like the idea of rowa being roi, as in some sort of kingdom. naku can also refer to making an animal's voice/sound, so perhaps…
Well, the only animal kingdoms we've seen are all movie/filler. Maybe Oda included one in canon story, I dunno. :P
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Are you sure this isn't a new sword? He said he got it from the Long Armed Tribe, even if it was Mangastream's translation. (I know they aren't always the most reliable.) http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/88730115/10
I don't have the RAW with me, so I can't confirm. Here's what mangareader has: http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/643/9
Until then, I'll assume he still kept his original sword.
Edit: It's sad that MS is actually better than MR this week. MR beat them to first, but did an unsatisfactory job with it. Even the scan itself isn't cleaned that well. But as usual, we wait for Cnet to clear up questions.
-
Yeah, but without any other context to back it by, it could refer to many things.
I think this is the point. They're going on an adventure somewhere that's vague and undefined to explore it.

Did anyone else notice Shojo has the hercules beetle that Luffy gave them in a cage on his side?
-
@Fire Fist:
This is the same thing we had with Franky during the Enies Lobby Arc. Franky was in battles. Franky was in a battle colorspread with the Strawhats. Franky was the most prominent non-Strawhat fighter during the arc. But was he going to be the next crewmate? No, people said that everyone from Paulie to Blueno to even Rob Lucci was going to be the next Strawhat. This is stupid. Jinbe is the next Strawhat. People just want to fight against logic and reason until the last.
As for Hodi, he's probably going to collapse from ODing, and Chopper is going to end up being the one to save him. Being that Hodi's Bigotry is blind, he won't recognize Chopper as anything more than "Not a Fishman", and be forced to recognize that other races aren't monsters.
He knows other races aren't monsters, but he knows that he is. And he delights in it. He's not proud of his race, he's proud of himself.
And yeah, Jinbe joining is a no-brainer. Unlike other supporting characters, Jinbe gets a whole lot of "screen time" and has an important role in resolving a conflict. Unless he's gonna be another Vivi.

No, I did not. Quite awesome.

I'm curious as to whether Hody's "heaven has given us power" comment will be developed upon… The idea that they think they're incurring the judgment of the gods upon humans is pretty interesting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's just a fancy way of saying they believe they have the divine right to punish humans after all of their race's suffering.

Didn't Arlong say something similar? In regard to his physique being naturally far superior to a human's, regrowing his teeth or whatever? May just be a throwback to that on Oda's part.

Thanks again Redon! Derp, I spent extra time trying to figure out the weird katakana in zoom.
1. There's a pun with Robin's attack on Hammond – actually called "W Clutch", based on the shape of her opponent afterward, but it's pronounced "Double Clutch".
2. On MR, they didn't translate the bit where Brook says "It's SOUL!!" The katakana for the character is spelled in a rough-sounding way that distorts the sound of the term. Must be part of his quirky speech pattern.
3. MR was right about the sharpened sword thing. Brook just gave his original blade a new name. The katakana here spell "souru soriddo", but I'm sure it's meant to be "sword".
4. I think I mentioned before about the Daruma = ball puns… and what Usopp actually says. That ought to be it for now.

ONE PIECE 643 RAW

Whatever happened to Kuro? Even with this new cover story series, Kuro never had another appearance or hint of one. Interesting that you brought him back up, since we could have used him as a parallel example to see where Hody would end up, given that he doesn't die by drug overdose. I guess that depends on whether his crew have nothing better to do in the aftermath.
Now, if there were actually a member in the NFP who had at least a smidgen of badass attitude like Gin… oh, it's fanfiction. There isn't any.
...So, did the Ghostbusters joke run out long ago and didn't appear again here or what?
I appolozie that I've not relpied to this before, rubia_ryu, I missed it . In the Manga we neve see him again after Luffy throws his unconcsious body to the crew of the Blackcat Pirates and told them to leave. In the anime, we see a short cameo when Luffy's wanted poster came out… I think it was the second wanted poster but not sure there. The caemo was very, very short with just a random crewmate barging into the captain's quater holing Luffy's wanted poster, we see Kuro look up grimacing then its over.
That's one thing I noticed with both multi person cover arcs, the Where are They Now, and the current Frome the Decks of the World, neither had Kuro in them. Jango, I can understand not being in them since he's appeared in the main storyline as a low ranking maraine. I figure there maybe reasons why=
1- he is not important to the storyline, his part is over.
The most likely reason is 2- there is no connection to the Strawhats, such as friendship or family. For example, we see Rika, Boodie and Gaimon in the "From the Deks of the World", they were friends to the Strawhats but were minor characters. -

Yep, and because he gave up on piracy, he's pretty much forgotten in this age. Whatever he's up to now wouldn't affect the storyline at all. It'd just be a nice little side story
about the crew's mutiny. For Krieg, if he hasn't changed his attitude at all, he has a certain chance to return to the story (so does Gin, if he isn't dead already). Still, if the New World is even more menacing than the first half of the Grand Line, his crew probably won't last, also given that the Marines are prepped even more heavily than before. And it wouldn't make sense to skip back along the GL to look for them; we're following the Straw Hats' adventures, not theirs.
The other East Blue villains have returned to the story at some time, showing that they're still important in some aspects. Yet the chance that Arlong makes a return in the New World… not likely at all, even if he somehow escaped from prison. If he failed in East Blue, loosely named the "weakest" sea
it's the most peaceful, he won't do much in the New World. For the New World, I'm hoping a character like Caribou will take the role of revenge-stalker of the SH crew, just to bring back the fun of having another much weaker crew seek revenge. Foxy had a bunch of filler that further degraded his already measly attempts.

I think that's more than Caribou brothers because they always ask for God to forgive whoever was doing wrong to them. :P

New Theory: The air tank shoots a bubble that pushes most of the water out of Noah, and Luffy goes to try and wake Decken up. He wakes him up and the ship begins to move out of the way to follow Shirahoshi. Hody begins to fight Luffy and after a little fight, Luffy begins to run. Hody mocks Luffy for running saying he is just like the rest of humanity when he realizes what Luffy has done. Luffy touches Deckens hand that was locked on Shirahoshi, and the ship begins to fall now that it's to the side of Fishman Island.

What translation do you think is better for Usopp's epic line? Mangareader, Mangastream…?

Gum Gum Giant Trampoline? I mean, if he stretched out wide enough, he could probably bounce the ship away from fishman island.

There's a limit to how far Luffy can stretch.

**That'd be kind of lame

and it doesn't go well with his after 2 years of training I'll protect everyoneLuffy has done somethings similar to is would be in character even if it does seem to deny his growth…he used (or tried to) Gumo Gumo no Baka against Eneru. And remember Water Luffy from when he fought against Crocodile? Those seem to be unlikely now and I'd be surprised if something as silly as that is used but Oda could show us that Luffy is still silly but ingenous in heat of the battle by using a simple move to simply wake Dekken up, after all he has Hodi to fight against and show some awesome moves against.
I really not sure what will happen and can't wait to see.
What translation do you think is better for Usopp's epic line? Mangareader, Mangastream…?
I like the one at Mangareader. I may not prefer the "I've deteroirated…"part but I do prefer the final part= "I used to lie a lot more ... Now I can actually do those things!" That just sounds better...more epic.... than the "I ued to really lay the lies way thcker ...but I can't do that anymore!"

My bets on either sea kings doing something via shirahoshis call or the ship landing on a gigantic wadatsumi
