Indeed. Might want to choose something that isn't phonetically identical in English though.

Didn't Luffy only say 'san' (one flap)?
I can see the English dub using 'Third' in its place, if need be.
-
Well we'll see when the dub comes out. I think this is more about personal taste rather than major error. It's not in the same league as a word like "haki/ambition" or "nakama/crewmate" or any of the more justified arguments going on around here.
-
Latin translation please, thank you.
Luffy: Tu tres.
Mr. Three: Haud, ego Mister Three!I realize I'm probably not even close on the grammar, but that's the general gist of it.
-
Why is this a problem?… Why is Urouge the only one who gets it also?...
No problem.. some people were explaining the context of the joke to me, like Urouge.
I also understood the joke.
I'm just trying to explain it in another context.I guess people just want to find something to argue about.
Augh, please no arguments. Do we want another Gear Second/Second Gear and Haki debate?
Point is, what most of you guys are saying is that Luffy said three but in Japanese whereas Mr.3's name is always said in English. Joke in point. When Funi does the scene, they can either use the "It's MISTER 3" path or have Luffy actually use San or Three in another language.
-
Luffy: Tu tres.
Mr. Three: Haud, ego Mister Three!I realize I'm probably not even close on the grammar, but that's the general gist of it.
You don't have any verbs. Unless Latin doesn't require a to be verb but I don't think so.
Luffy: Tu es tres.
Mr Three: Haud (?), ego sum Mister Three!Edit: And here's the Spanish version because I think Urouge asked for it.
Luffy: (Tú) Eres tres.
Mr Three: No, (yo) soy Mister Three! -
Sometimes, it doesn't, but it's also like Japanese in that it doesn't always use pronouns as verbs convey the 1st/2nd/3rd POV.
Cogito ergo sum.
-
@Kairouseki:
Edit: And here's the Spanish version because I think Urouge asked for it.
Luffy: (Tú) Eres tres.
Mr Three: No, (yo) soy Mister Three!I asked you to translate this to Spanish:
"Hey, it's Three!"
"NO! It's Senor Tres!"While not ruining the joke for those Spanish speakers. That was to show, by example, what Funi was up against in translation.
-
I think to save the headache, Funi will probably end up going with the "It's MISTER Three," route in the dub. It works just as well and saves the trouble of trying to detranslate a cross-language joke.
It is pretty cool that they left the joke untranslated in the sub though. I didn't even notice it until I read this thread.

Regarding the simulcast advertisements, does anybody else think that Red Cliff is gonna be a good movie? Looks kinda bland to me.
-
i am easily susceptible to ads and now think it's the greatest movie since Casablanca
-
Red Cliff came out a while back in the UK, and was a great movie.
Would have been even better if they hadn't wimped out and instead given us the full unedited two parter - which is much better, but the western cut is still good.

That ball isn't even in FUNi's court. FUNi supplies the translation and the webspace since they own the US rights to One Piece, but the ball here is mostly in Toei's court, since FUNi had to jump through hoops just to get Toei to agree to THAT much.
To get an International simulcast would require international licensors, like how You can Watch FMA Brotherhood globally, but like, if you're in Australia, you have to watch it on Madman's Site.
I just still don't get why international fans are actually Angry and upset at FUNi over this, when FUNi didn't do anything wrong… LEGALLY, they HAVE to region lock the Simulcast. The International simulcast is in TOEI'S hands, so stop bitching about FUNi and go talk to Toei. Admittedly, some of us were jerks initially, going "Why are there fansubs now that we have the simulcast", forgetting the international fans, and I'm sorry about that, but I'm sure most of us don't think that way anymore.
And I know, I just gave a moronic post a rather intelligent, thought out response that will probably go ignored... But eh, I like to type...
tl;dr
FUNi giving only the US the simulcast isn't their fault, so Shut up and enjoy your fansubs in peace and let us enjoy our simulcast in peace. -

Highlights of Episode 426:
The explanation of Shiki's Sword-Legs… Shiki's hardcore.
Little East Blue, now that's fun.
Nice to see the crew together again, even if it's "filler?"
The Amigo Pirates, now that's Oda putting his mind to it (he wrote the specials right?)Lowlights:
THAT BRAND NEW OPENING! I know One Piece has bright, fun intros but this one is just annoying. Plus seeing the animated Marineford at the end just makes the wait for it worse.I still have to ask, are these specials and Movie 10 canon?

Is this a new trend? Filler that doesn't exactly suck? It started with the new Boss Luffy.

Lol, it`s funny how openings change. It went from the Japanese eqivalent of Justin Timberlake to a soft "happy fun time" theme.
But we needed a new opening anyway. This so WON`T match with the battle at Marineford.
To be honest, I was expecting a rock song.

Me too. Hopefully they'll change it by the time they actually get to Marineford.

Ya new opening, although it is not that great, although I liked how they worked in a few color spreads.
-
This is one of my favorite openings, I think. Very creative, and with the epic show down at Marinford.

Yeah I thought that was very clever. One of my favorite spreads was in there; (the ice cream one.) Does any one remember where the Luffy vs. Franky boxing one is from?

AHA! Thanks I love it.
-
I took ton of screencaps from the new opening so enjoy.
!
-
Anybody else get trolled by the opening?
I seriously thought it was ending at the 1:50 mark, then the song picks up again. >_> The last 45 seconds of the opening are awesome, but it has too many Crazy Rainbow vibes for the first two minutes, which is my least favorite opening to date :(
-
Urgh, rubbish opening. But then I really really like 'Share the world'
Good bits- Seeing some cover art animated is always nice
- Its nice to see the crew just being together and goofing about after so long
- The ID crew falling from the sky
Bad Bits
- That awful awful horrible song
- Maybe a bit too spoilery? Even Share the World wasn't so bad at giving away whats to come
- Showed Saladeath and Sadi-chan, implying they're going to have a bigger part than they did….tho actually, in the manga they might stretch out their parts (I actually want to see the Sadi vs Iva fight!)
-
Not too much trouble this week, although the usual freezing did occur. I basically have to let it sit for 10 minutes to see 2 minutes worth of episode, lol. But it's all worth it in the end.
Okay, I had NO idea that we were getting a new opening today and it took me by surprise. The song itself is not the greatest but it's good enough for me to download the song later. I think we'll get used to it. It IS a little bit too bubbly for the current story line though, but meh. I liked the animation way more than the song though. Not only do we get to see the Straw Hats in the first half from various color spreads, but we get to see all the major characters from Impel Down. AWESOME.
Episode itself was better than I expected. I like that they did start the episode off letting us know the current story line is actually still going on (talking about Luffy barging into ID.) It's a perfect transition into this story line. I hope next episode is even better. Oh and Little East Blue is perfect. But how will the rest of the crew be involved with these specials?
-
That guy with the guitar…I really want Brook to be the one to fight him. Just because.
-
the song was so happy go lucky. it seemed it was made for another anime like sailor moon or naruto. nice to see everyone back even for a filler. one thing I'll never understand is how luffy keeps getting in to fights with animals. i hope the little girl doesn't get to annoying.
-
I really liked the happy go luckyness of it! Just let this be the last one so happy go lucky. Hahahah. But what was shown I absolutely love! I get such a kick out of seeing the color spreads and cover pages animated. Maybe it's just me, but I really look forward to seeing those things.
So this happened a few days before they reached Shaboady huh? Imagine if Oda goes, "this is all cannon", that would be nuts!
-
@RPG:
i hope the little girl doesn't get to annoying.
She's already a filler child with a sad past and a prejudice against pirates. It's too late for her.
ISo this happened a few days before they reached Shaboady huh? Imagine if Oda goes, "this is all cannon", that would be nuts!
Really? Seemed to me like it happens sometime after they get back together, otherwise why would they have banquets on end and be worried about reaching the next island?
-
I forgive the anime world for giving us this opening since I was treated to SIGN last month.
Yeah, Crazy Rainbow Star is no longer my least favorite opening. The impel down part of the new opening is just begging to be dubbed with a better song on YouTube.
-
Really? Seemed to me like it happens sometime after they get back together, otherwise why would they have banquets on end and be worried about reaching the next island?
Actually, the way the narration was all ''Hey, did you know that Shiki was the only person to breach Impel Down before this, and you know Luffy actually fought him?'' it makes perfect sense for the movie to take place in between Thriller Bark and Sabaody. Brook just joined, which would explain the lines about them eating so much: they partied their asses off.
-
Yeah, Oda made sure to leave a nice gap in-between Thriller Bark and the Red Line. "Who knows" what could have happened in addition to the little one-panel blurbs we got?
-

The only thing that confuses me is that in the movie designs they all have power ups similar to where they all landed on their island. For example Usopp has that beetle hat and new weapon, Franky has a new weapon and his body seems to be altered. It just screams "after current manga arc" to me.
My theory is this: The events in these specials are meant as flashbacks to a few days before Shabaody, but the movie itself probably takes place later. It's only a theory though, but for now that's the way I am looking at this.
-
My problem with the "post-Thriller Bark" theory is the way Sengoku talked about Shiki NOW, like he was just a distant memory. But in the movie, we know that he's aware of Shiki's return after all these years.

That's a good take.
