'Tis older than the internets itself.

Just a few things I'm curious about that doesn't seem right in the story's plot. Perhaps they were explained and I missed them, but if someone can clear some of this up for me, it would be most appreciated:

What were Vivi and Igaram waiting for when they were part of the Baroque Works? They infiltrated with the purpose of finding the identity of Mr. 0 and evidence of a conspiracy to overthrow the Alabasta government. It seems that they found what they were looking for by the time the Staw Hat Pirates entered the Grand Line (Vivi had enough evidence to write a letter to her father successfully convincing him that Crocodile was not the People's Hero), yet were content spending their time whale hunting and throwing wild parties for wandering pirates. Was there any given reason that they hadn't tried to desert the Baroque Works and return to Alabasta, or at least tried to send Cobra the message?

How did Luffy discover/activate Gear Second? When he first mentions it, he says after he lost to Admiral Aokiji, he realized he had to get stronger to protect his crew and developed Gear Second. This implies he learned it somewhere between the Davy Back Fight and Water 7 arcs. But when he first uses it, Blueno marvels that somehow, Luffy managed to learn the Soru technique just by seeing it once. Luffy implies this assumption to be true, saying "I'm glad I met you guys here" (referring to encountering CP9) and telling Blueno that he knows the secret of how the Soru technique works. This implies that Luffy was trying to use Soru and instead, discovered Gear Second by accident. Did Luffy develop Gear Second by himself and Blueno just THOUGHT it was Soru? Did Luffy figure out how to use Soru and try to use it himself, activating Gear Second accidentally (if so, then how did he know to call it Gear Second)? Or is it something else and I'm completely missing something?

What path on the Grand Line are the Straw Hats on? We know they left Reverse Mountain on the Whiskey Peak path and that Little Garden is on that path, but after that they've used at least one Eternal Pose to get to their destinations. Are they still on the Whiskey Peak path?
-
Is there a reason that the Shandians had Skypiea wings on their backs long before Jaya was ever launched into Skypiea by the Knock-Up Stream?
-
-
How did krieg came back from the Grand Line ?
-
In a boat .
-
I mean is it possible to come back through the reverse mountain ?
-
Why is WB's crew so young? All the division commanders aren't that old. Didn't WB have some first mate like Roger has Rayleigh?
-
I mean is it possible to come back through the reverse mountain ?
No, go try sailing up a waterfall. They rowed through the calm belt.
-
The Rumbar Pirates came back through Reverse Mountain. :/
-
Say what? Proof please. Wouldn't they have had to pass RIGHT BY Laboon?
-
It's especially not true since the Rumbar Pirates DIED IN THE FLORIAN TRIANGLE.
-
No, go try sailing up a waterfall. They rowed through the calm belt.
How did they survive was their ship made by Vegapunk ?
-
Luck, only one ship out of the entire fleet made it through, and it happened to be the maiden ship. However, it may have been modified by Vegapunk now that you say something, since Krieg did steal Marine ships. I didn't think it was but I can't deny the possibility now that I think about it.

I actually made a thread with a similar topic when I first joined.
Here, take a look:

1. ?
2. Soru doesn't equal Gear Second. Luffy learned Soru from watching Blueno move around. He had already learned how to activate Gear Second by the time he met Blueno. So he incorporated Soru into his moveset and then was able to use it because of the high speed he could move at due to Gear Second.
3. Doesn't really matter seeing as all the paths have joined together now…
4. Because they're angels. (I have no idea)

But still no answer why WB's crew is that young? I miss some old bad-ass charas like Rayleigh in his crew. And I doubt that in the time of Roger he hadn't other strong charas.
-
1. I think they were just waiting for an opportunity. If they just got up and left it would have made there positions clear and Crocodile would have sent people to kill them. Of course they ended up waiting too long and he sent people to kill them anyway.
2. There's this thing in Movie 7 where he accidentally activates Gear Second, but that's not exactly cannon.
3. They used the Eternal Pose from Little Garden to get to Alabasta, but from what Igaram was saying I think Alabasta was on their path in the first place. They also used an Eternal Pose to get to Jaya, but they left before the Log Pose changed and just continued to Skypiea, so I think they were on the same path the whole time.
4. There was this thing that Enel found on the moon that showed that moon people, Skypiean angels, and Shandorians all actually came from the moon originally, and when the Skypieans and Shandorians came to earth, one race landed in the White Sea while the other landed on Jaya or something.

We've only seen a handful of Whitebeard's people so far though and only about a quarter of the Corps Commanders in particular; some of them may well be old geezers who have been with Whitebeard for decades.
Plus his is one of the few pirate crews whose members can expect to live long enough to retire and probably accumulate enough wealth to do so comfortably; his original Commanders may well have decided that they were too old to be doing this sort of thing anymore and left or simply adopted a less active lifestyle onboard. For all we know, the ship's cook might be seventy or eighty years old, but doesn't take part in pirate raids anymore.
And I doubt that in the time of Roger he hadn't other strong charas.
Besides Teach you mean?
Joz is probably old enough to have been around since then as well; same for Thatch. Marco might have been an apprentice back then or might be too young for that. Without Oda assigning ages to them, there's no way we can tell for some of these guys.

Well but none was showsn so far and we just see Marco and Jozu as likely power-houses. And both seems younger than Shanks who was a trainee back then.
But WB should have geezers like Rayleigh too as second in command and I don't think that they would just stop being pirate of old age. Dunno why but a bit strange.

It's a good question, and I don't claim to have the answer. Maybe in the world of manga crap just fits as necessary like how peoples' clothes change size and shape with their bodies. Maybe there is still something we don't know, and maybe he did make use of old Marine seastone plated ships. I think I recall that he had several kinds of ships, so entrance through the Calm Belt just seems… weird?
-

I doubt that they'd be First and Third Corps Commanders if they aren't in the same neighborhood of strength as Ace.
And, personally, I don't see Joz as being younger than Shanks myself, though he might well be.
But WB should have geezers like Rayleigh too as second in command
Strength counts in the Whitebeard Pirate crew more than seniority judging by the fact that Ace made it up through the ranks in only a few years. Well, unless, the Corp Commanders increase in strength as the number increases rather than decreases and the 16th Corp Commander is the most powerful of the lot.
and I don't think that they would just stop being pirate of old age. Dunno why but a bit strange.
We've seen plenty of retired pirates in the series though and not all of them necessarily retired because of health issues. After a while, some of them just may not get the same thrill out of a life of piracy that they used to and want to settle down somewhere instead.
As it why it seems strange, piracy is a dangerous job and not conducive to a lengthy career under normal circumstances; Whitebeard's crew is rather different as you can reasonably expect to not be killed by other pirates/Marines and have a fair chance at making enough money to retire. There's a fair chance that Whitebeard's crew may even have an actual retirement plan for its members.
-
The possibility also exists that there's a core group that isn't assigned to the 16 divisions and serve directly under Whitebeard himself. If that was the case, it would probably be mostly old-timers. It seems a little odd that WB would be the only person on the crew who doesn't have a division, though not impossible.

How was Jimbei able to fight and to nearly kill Ace. Did he have Haki as well?

The second question should be if Ace had his Devilfruit in the fight against Jimbei.

If not than jimbei isn't taht powerful as we think.

jimbei=water
ace=fire! jimbei is his natural enemy:ninja:

Kishido, you may want to avoid that spoiler. It's so mind-boggling that you may just wonder if Oda is just making crap up as he goes along. Fishman Karate being used to kill a Devil Fruit user? Preposterous!

No you're right… Fishme-Karate at sea >>>> DF
Sorry for the dumb question
-
If Ace does get executed, how do they plan to kill him?
-
A question on kuma's powers. Sentoumaru mentioned that they approximately travel 3 days if ever someone is hit by kuma's paws, does it also mean that the SHs all traveled the same distance with SA as the point of origin? :ermm:

Sorry for being late but I heard (or rather saw) someone make a post about haki.

I'm looking for a higher quality scan of chapter 234. If anyone could help, that would be great.

oh somebody found it.so if there is any mods out there.can you place my thread in here

What are "gaol bullets"? Their are mentioned in Impel Down.
-
And then they were never explained.
-
I heard someone say and it has been bugging me for months so anyone know?
-
I don't get what you're saying?
-
I'd say no, because why would there be Japanese word puns?
-
Uh, no. It's written in Japanese, that means they're speaking in Japanese.
-
Uh, no. It's written in Japanese, that means they're speaking in Japanese.
Not necessarily, there are times when something is done in one language for the native audience, but is intended to be considered another language in the story.
Random example, in anime or manga that take place in America, like Gunsmith Cats, we're supposed to assume they're speaking English.
Also the manga/anime Monster takes place in Europe, and they actually specify that they're speaking German etc in the story, despite it being written and spoken in Japanese for the manga/anime.
A lot of older Hollywood movies set in various countries are in English, but we assume the characters are speaking the native language of where the story is set, etc etc.
As for One Piece, I haven't heard about this, but considering it's set in a fictional world where Japan and our other countries don't exist… I don't think this detail really matters much in One Piece.
-
I'd say that even though the manga is written in Japanese everyone's speaking a language that doesn't really exist. There is no Japan, America (though there is the New World), Europe, etc. And Kenshin I forgot about that in Monster.
Oda probably doesn't speak a word of English so he probably wouldn't say the people in his manga are speaking English. Sounds like Luffys#1Fan thinks English is an all powerful superior language :ninja: .
-
And its never been clarified as to what language they speak, so i assume its japanese.
-

Oda does speak some English, he did live in the US for a couple of years and has taken a lot of references from US pop culture and put them into OP as well.
Since OP is not exactly our version of earth, it seems it could be any language they are speaking, but there is TONS of english inserted around. I personally think we are to infer they could possibly be speaking english but who knows.
The pirate deal itself is a really western thing. Oda of course puts in japanese references and puns to make it relevant to the native audience just as american references/puns are put into movies that take place in foriegn places sometimes. I've only read one manga that is set outside of Japan that really took strides to make it traditional and left out a lot of japanese puns and references for the most part.

He lived in America? I never heard about that. When? I though he instanly became a Mangaka after school and has been ever since. Where did that information come from?
