Akira is great and a forerunner in many ways. But performance enhancing drugs where not one of it's inventions.
Oda's INSPIRATION for One Piece
-
-
I was talking about the scene where the main "antagonist" is sitting around his subordinates and popping pills relative to their perspective goals. I know that Tetsuo used the drugs to suppress is mental abilities and Hodi uses them to enhance his physical strength. I just thought the scene was oddly familiar.

Ok, so I was watching basketball tonight (college), and for the first time ever I noticed Pepperdine's mascot, "Willie the Wave". Now, I know Franky is generally accepted as an Ace Ventura / Pop-eye hybrid, but as I have never seen this mascot suggested before I thought I would throw him in here.

first person i thought of was not franky but Zekka from Battle Angel Alita
-
I always thought Zoro's name was a reference to Zorro.
-
Wow, he's got the Hawaii shirt and everything. The question remains, where does Franky's underwear come from
-

Superman, of course. Super!
-
Don't know if that was mentionned, but this story of a princess locked up in a tower for year remind me of Rapunzel's tale.
-
sounds plausible
-
I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it in this thread or not, but one part in the fight between Usopp and Perona looks like it was taken from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: The bit with her "reaching" into his chest and squeezing his heart, which seems to take inspiration from Jotaro vs. Dio.
And after I saw Kizaru for the first time, I didn't know that he was modeled after Kunie Tanaka. Before, I thought Oda got his design from one of the Beatles, mostly because of his hair.
-
Kizaru's hair is absolutely nothing like any Beatle, the fuck are you talking about.
-
dunno if anyone mentioned it before
but the turtle cab Luffy and the others ride up to the lighter areas of Fishman Island is likely based off the Japanese version of Rip Van Winkle where the lead guy saves a turtle from being bullied, and so the turtle gives him a ride on his back to the Sea Dragon's palace
whereupon he doesn't age while years and years pass, and when he gets bored, he rides the turtle back up
-

actually, the whole Ryuuguu palace is ripped from japanese folklore. that's the name of the underwater palace that Urashima Taro (the rip van wrinkle guy) gets taken to. There's the Emperor of the Sea down there, and his lovely daughter.
Now, I don't see any aspect of the time dilation in the current arc, but the influence is obvious.
-
figured that was obvious from what I was saying
-
Rapunzel the princess locked up in a tower?
-
There's shenlong of dragonball in bath of alabasta palace
-
Shenlong is by apperance just a classical chinese dragon. His name even means spiritual dragon in chinese. Still Oda might be inspired by Dragonball to put a Chinese dragon in there.

I ve watched Nausicaa for the 1st time recently.
There is a city, Pejite, suffering from desertification and a scene where the princess rushes to tell the army not to attack her village.
That made me think a lot of Vivi in front of Arabasta. She also wear the blue dress, and is also whining a bit. -

Why does it make you mad?

Q: Do you like touching scenes like that?
A: I thought that drawing a touching story was very awesome after seeing Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I thought, "I want to make them cry, too!" That is why I have "how to touch people's hearts without killing people" as one of my themes. I feel that killing people off is just too easy. But, if the story is flowing towards that direction, it can't be helped. For now, I think there is a way for people to be touched without killing characters off.http://www.thegrandline.com/odateach.html
Q.12 What movie has made you cry the most?
NausicaaQ.13 Do you have a particular favorite Director, actor or actress?
Akira Kurosawa, Hayao Miyazaki, Tim Burton, Baz Luhrmann, Tarantino. It's true that dramas in On Piece are inspired by Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Though we don't know details.
And Nausicaa is totally awesome. -

I can't see Vivi being as awesome as her.
But Sea already showed us Nausicaa being one of Oda's source of inspiration. It's no surprise, really. It's fucking good.

I meant crying, no offence

Everyone have their own references, i dont diss people because they dont share my opinion. Answers like "You have no idea what Nausicaa is." are not very constructive. Just sounds like "hey, you, I don't know you, so what you say is dumb because it is."

You didn't even know the name of the fucking princess.
And I can assure you Nausicaa has absolutely nothing in common with Alabasta. And the character is nothing like Vivi. You're just randomly mashing together thoughts, don't act indignant that you're being called on it.
Nausicaa (the movie) clearly had a much deeper broader influence on Oda then silly comparisons, it impressed in him a sense of the power you can wield with a narrative.
Fucking internet troll
Incompetent whiny baby who can't handle criticism.

One line bashing isn't criticism. Oda himself says this movie is a big influence, what I said wasn't that silly. Sea posting links to the interviews was way more interesting than your 2 posts. That's what I hate: anime fans that can't share their knowledge in a positive way and keep going Nelson on poeple who don't have the same references than them, just to show their anime cock is bigger than yours.
I saw Nausicaa after one piece, so that reminded me of Arabasta. You're not in Oda's head, you're not in my head. Maybe you know it all, but I'm sure you don't. I won't feed you anymore. -

One line bashing isn't criticism.
It is when you intend on expanding, which I did.
Even then it still wouldn't be trolling. You have less of an idea of what trolling is then you do what Nausicaa is about.Oda himself says this movie is a big influence, what I said wasn't that silly. Sea posting links to the interviews was way more interesting than your 2 posts.
Interview questions you apparently didn't read, much like my posts, which mentioned the interview and the difference between the inane confused comparison you made and the fact that Oda was influenced by the emotional impact of the film.
That's what I hate: anime fans that
I'm not an anime fan.
can't share their knowledge in a positive way
I don't like people who disrespect the Nauss.
and keep going Nelson on poeple who don't have the same references than them,
Nelson is awesome, I wish I could have a built in Nelson laugh feature in the forum. It's frequently needed and would really make for more efficient put downs and dismissals of bad posts.
just to show their anime cock is bigger than yours.
Your anime cock is much bigger then mine.
Unfortunately being as it's an anime cock, it is inherently virginal and flaccid at all times.I saw Nausicaa after one piece, so that reminded me of Arabasta.
How did it remind you of it.
Not that it matters since you clearly don't remember anything (seriously…you couldn't name the main character lolllll).HAY I SAW THIS NINJA SHOW CALLED NARUTO, SOME ORANGE GUY WAS MAKING FROGS APPEAR OR SOMETHING
The Nausicaa manga has more comparable to Alabasta if anything but you probably don't even know such a thing exists do you. The film ...sheet...I can't even begin to see where you see Alabasta.
You're not in Oda's head,
And you sure as hell aren't either, so remind me how saying this is in any way a defense of something bad you suggested? Not Oda?
Maybe you know it all, but I'm sure you don't. I won't feed you anymore.
Just like Ao Kiji you couldn't explain yourself and have to run off, have fun guy who never really meant anything.
Could you provide a source for this?
Try the previous fucking page lolll.

Don't forget that both princesses wore blue dresses! The similarity is uncanny.

Maybe oneku actually saw Warriors of the Wind. That would explain some things, like why he can't remember the main character's name.

Just in one page, many constructive and argued messages.
I've read your posts on other threads, just hate and bashing. You look like a very angry little boy. You start quoting every sentence, being picky on words, next grammar, trolling disease. How did it remind you of it.
Not that it matters since you clearly don't remember anything (seriously…you couldn't name the main character lolllll).Nausicaa's heroine is named Nausicaa, as you're an accredited script writer, you know about not being repetitive when writing. Go back to your script, i wait for your Cosby Show.
In Nausicaa, Nausicaa (you see? not very good writing) rushes to Pejite to ask the army not to attack Wind Village. In One Piece, Vivi rushes to Arabasta to warn the Rebel army not to attack her kingdom.
When Nausicaa arrives to Pejite, there is a shot that looks almost like the The Super Duck Squad with the camera flying over the desert high speed.
Nausicaa and Vivi both have blue dresses. Pejite and Arabasta are 2 cities build with oriental style buildings that are being destroyed by natural causes. Even the big stairs when Nausicaa enters Pejite reminded me the big stairs at the entry of Arabasta. One piece is not so big as Nausicaa's movie in terms of influence, you may not agree with me, if you argue i can accept it. I asked you why you went mad, you answer was "because you're stupid".
Last point, what makes a good movie is the fact you can have different readings of it.
You can now use fancy English words to make fun of me, I'll answer you in my own language
