Chapter 409 "Bad News Emergency Broadcasting" Discussion
-

Well, it is the WG courthouse, a pwhere lace dangerous criminals are brought for trails and what not. They'd want to have a large number of extra seastone cuffs, for their own sake. I doubt they had those cuffs there solely for the Strawahats.
Out of curiosity, the room with the seastone cuffs was a garden of sorts, and in the recent chapter, was referred to as the 'wolf room.' So is CP9 based out of EL? Or not? Also, for some odd, unknown reason, I suddenly have this urge to see Funkfried/Funkfreed do a rankyaku with his trunk…who else is with me on this?
-
Zoro and Ussop have been running around the tower for a while now, so the "Wolf Room" should just be a room that they've ended up in, not the garden room. The garden room / Jyabura's room was above the room with a fireplace / Kaku's room. The cuffs were found in Kaku's room.
EDIT #2: Nevermind about the above paragraph, I completely got the rooms mixed up. Looks like they're back in Jyabura's garden room, which has a hole in the ceiling.
It seems to me that CP9 is indeed based from EL, since that's where Jyabura, Kumadori, and Fukuro return to after they complete their mission.
EDIT: Zoro instead of "Zoros" :P
-
I'm sure Chopper will get some sort of bounty for what he has done as Chopzilla. But because it has been a recurring joke, I think Sanji will still go without a bounty, something he has openly desired since Luffy got his first bounty.
Lol. I like your idea about Sanji going w/o e bounty AGAIN, even though it's unlikely this time. As for Chopper, it depends on whether the marines witnessed Chopzilla in action (Which I hope they did) and found out that it was him who had beaten Kumadori blue black. I would love to see him getting a higher bounty than Sanji's.
Back to this chapter.
Zoro seemed to be holding himself well against Kaku+Jyabura, even though he was at a disadvantaged position. Then again it could be because 1) Kaku and Jyabura did not cooperate and the fight at the moment was more like Zoro vs Kaku vs Jyabura. 2) The fight had just started.
Kalifa and Nami were actually inside the upper half of the sliced tower. I wonder if they could finish their battle before the upper half of the tower collapsed. Did they even realised they were in a dangerous position?

Actually, Jyabura's room was below Kaku's room… ^^; That's why they ended up there when, you know, Kaku fell through the ceiling... wouldn't make sense the other way, now would it? XD
I think that the room they're in now (the wolf room) probably is Jyabura's garden still... I mean, it's still a garden, and when Jyabura's room is first shown it has the kanji for "ookami" (wolf) written on the walls in a couple spots... I'd assume it's the same room... So either it's really, really big, or they ended up in it again. XD XD

Phew well I finally read the scanlation & now I have a clear understanding of what's going on. I liked how that dumbass Luffy did the opposite of 'Fight now, ask questions later' (or somewhat like :P).
Plus Spandam spilling all the beans and everyone in Enies Lobby hears them & then he says that Luffy said all that XD.
…but damn man, Sanji & Paulie need to do something soon, cuz the shit is getting better!
Zoro: "Sounds like we're in for some trouble..."
Sogeking: "I'M ALREADY IN TROUBLE!!!" -
i think sanji might end up getting a bounty but in order to keep the gag going it's probably going to extremely low, and will probably be under 5 million berri. all sanji really did was defeat a bunch of lower marine type's on the sea train. imagine the shock on sanji face when he see's he only got a 5 mil bounty while everybody on the strawhat crew has over a 50 million bounty on their heads. i agree with what another said on this thread and really, really hope some of the pirates over at impel down somehow escapes and disrupts the buster call. it would be a great way to introduce a bunch of new powerful pirates and also keep the world goverment busy and not focus on the strawhats.

Nah as much as I'd like to see the 'Sanji' doesn't get a bounty gag continue, it'd be neat to see him get a high bounty.
…and as for this 'really tough pirate escapes from Impel Down', don't you think that would be like in Full Metal Alchemist when:-! Greed & the Crimson Alechmist (forgot his name), escaped?
…but then again-! What if one of Rogers' crew was imprisoned in Impel Down?
-
This needs to be said….
When's Pandaman gonna save the day?!?!
-
Other than Sanji getting no bounty or a low one, maybe it'll just be an awful picture. Something ridiculous/embarrassing/unflattering, somehow. Heh!

Chopper scares me in that picture.
EDIT: Sorry about that. ^_^;;

Also, for some odd, unknown reason, I suddenly have this urge to see Funkfried/Funkfreed do a rankyaku with his trunk…who else is with me on this?
I've been saying this for a while now: My prediction is that Sanji's fight will be Frankfried, who turns out to be a Rokushiku user with craploads of doriki. Rankyaku trunk is just one thing I want to see; Shigan-trunk would rock to, as would an elephant using techniqes like kai-me and geppou.
-
Flapper, could you edit out those links in that quote. So we can avoid this awful page stretch, thanks.
-
OMG this chapter was great. Buster call . I can't wait to see how the StrawHats deal with this. i think this very outcome will no doubt affect the bounties they get.
-
I'm still hoping they'll all get bounties.
-
mugiwara kaizokudan the only pirates to ever escape a buster call along with Nico Robin who has survived it twice, theres one for the history books. I wonder I shanks did something like that
-
About the whole Sanji bounty issue, I've been hoping ever since Sanji had his ass kicking moments on the Puffing Tom that he would end up getting a bounty bigger than Zoro's. That would piss off Zoro to no end and you know Sanji would rub it in his face every chance he gets.
-
Yet another layer to their rivalry.
It would be even better if they fought over Nami. But Zoro doesn't seem interested in her. -
Speaking of bounties how is anyone going to get a bounty since everyone is fleeing the island cause of the B.Call.
of course there is the chance that since this is the world government HQ, there will be plenty of denden mushi cameras already in place. -
Yes but didn't Admiral Koji meet all the strawhats before Water 7? Surely he'd be able to ID the members of the crew. After all you say straw-hat pirates and you get those guys.
No doubt that everyone will get bounties. After-all, they were such a threat that the Buster call had to be used to eliminate them and even, they fail [possibly]. Although it makes me wonder if Luffy and Co will face off against any Vice-admirals.
No doubt that the next several chapters are going to be ones not to be missed. -

Oda gets cancer
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Seriously though, what does Funkfried do? He must be something for a coward like Spandam to trust its protection. -
The Buster Call probably won't work on Luffy since he's rubber and he bounce the cannon balls back.
-
Buster Call is more then just the ships and the ships weapons. I rather think that the true power of the Buster Call are the 5 vice admirals themselves. The ships are used to attack stationary target's, large aria's. But the ships are not invincible. Saul destroyed six of them, Ok he is a giant, but people like Mihawk and Ace could destroy does ships in seconds. I don't think the Luffy and the others will have to be scared of these special Buster Call ships, but of the incredible power of the vice admiral's.
-

Even he has his limits. He can hardly take on 10 ships can he? Although it'd be sweet if we got to see Zoro slice up a few ships, that'd sure make my day.
Btw- do they even have a way to escape? Rocketman is out of commision and I doubt they'll get away in time with the Puffing tom-because it'll be fired on. -
Anyone considered the possibility of Coby being a part of the Buster Call?
-
Franky can take out one of possible 2 ships with his Coup De Vent, Luffy can take out some ships, so can Zoro… Sanji can sneak aboard on a ship and have nice little fight with a vice admiral and then destroy the ship, I would like to see Galley-La sneaking on a ship and fight against vice admiral too :D We have yet to see what Paulie can do in a 1v1 fight... ^^ Maybe Franky family can take out a ship that has no vice admiral, the giants should be able to take one each or one together, Chopper is probably KO after his monster transformation. Nami may be able to destroy with her thunderbolt... Usopp! he can take out a ship :D.. And Robin can take out a hell of a ships... ^^
-
Anyone considered the possibility of Coby being a part of the Buster Call?
I doubt a rookie like him will be part of any Buster -call. And anyway- what are the chances of him being the area near Enies Lobby? After all- he did say that there was 30 mins or so till the fleet arrives or w/e.
-
Well he might, if Garp is coming… He's a subordinate for Garp so, it is a possibilty.
-
That all depends on if Garp is in the vicinity of the area. Which i doubt.
I hope we get to see the Vice-Admirals in action. -

The Frankies are ship dismantlers. They can take out a ship while the Straw Hats occupy the Vice Admirals.
Here's how it'll go down: the way I see it, there will be five Vice Admirals and five available Straw Hats:
Monster Chopper
Nami
Zoro
Sogeking
Franky OR (depending on what happens in chapter 410)
Luffy will be busy beating the royal shit out of Lucci and Sanji will hopefully be helping rescue Robin. -
Other then perhaps Luffy and Zoro, none of the straw-hats are capable of going up against Vice-Admirals. I can't see the Franky family doing much to the Buster-call fleet. There will be a huge barrage of cannons going at them.
-
Ehh, always with the cannons. The Navy's big advantage is numbers.
-
Franky doesn't have any cola left, the kitchen is on fire and he looks ktfo. No Coup de Vent. Luffy is busy dealing with Lucci, Zoro will probably lose ten gallons of blood after his fight with Kaku and won't be able to cut ships. Chopper will prolly lose consciousness and get back to his normal form.
There's no way in hell Nami or Usopp can sink battleships with their weapons and Sanji would get the everliving shit kicked out of him if he had the glorious idea to invade a Buster Call ship by himself. Let's not even talk about the Franky Family and Galley La workers who weren't even able to beat average Marine soldiers yet all of sudden they're going to hold their own against Vice-Admirals from the Marine HQ.
Seriously, maybe you're all slighty undersestimating the Buster Call.
-
I am just thinking about something…
Franky, and the 2Millions Berry... it will for sure be shown for the buster call...
With that i will add the info that franky burned the blueprints....
he said it was a bet, but perhaps the bet isn t a big deal since he already know the plans and perhaps he already build it (and finally buyed the last element with the stolen money...)I will think about it tomorrow, i hope it doesnt sound weird :$
-
I still think that impel down will have a big part once robin is rescued. Oda wouldnt have mentioned the 2 connections that eniess lobby had otherwise: impel down and the marines HQ. Once robin is rescued and cp9 is defeated, I'm guessing franky might go look for Tom before the buster call arrives. Somehow, maybe the prisoners in impel down will take care of the buster call. This way the strawhats can leave in the confusion. Also this would give an alternative to the strawhats just beating up everyone (which would seem like a drag).
-
I really don't think the Strawhats will be FIGHTING the buster call. They will escape it. But it seems to me that they will run away from it, not fight: They could not fight Hina's "Black Spear 8 Ship Formation"…
And if they can overcome one of the marine's most deadly attacks by now, I'm afraid that new challenges could become overpowered.
Let the Buster Call show them that they have a lot to learn, yet.
-
Seriously, maybe you're all slighty undersestimating the Buster Call.
I agree with him!
The SH have their fights and task(to rescue Robin) and not to fights against the whole WG and one of their strongest attaks…
Don´t forgett that ONLY the 3 strongest men of the WG have the admission to use BC
-
People are definitely underestimating the Buster Call as Aldrich said. Remember what it did to Ohara, now. Even if Saul beat a couple, he failed to beat ONE of the Vice Admirals. And he was a giant and a Vice Admiral himself. What this shows us is if Aokiji then was good enough to be an Admiral, then who's to say there isn't a Vice Admiral almost as strong as he is?
And that's not all of it. Remember that the Buster Call was something like 20 years ago. Technology has most likely advanced since then, so this Buster Call may be much more than just cannons and wooden ships - perhaps these ships have become actual Battleships - made of steel with many more cannons. As such, we probably won't see the SH beating down a Buster Call for a long time.
On another note, people say that if Robin sees the Mugiwara beating a Buster Call, she will feel safe. I feel it's more likely that the sight of Luffy taking out Buster Call ships would just scare her. After all, Saul died as a result of trying to take out Buster Call ships, so perhaps seing another D try to do so would just scare her and really mess with her more than it would help her. In the short term, of course, but something that horrific coming back would probably mess with her head for a long, long time.
-
The admirals (not the vices) back then. What happened to them?
-
@Raphael:
The admirals (not the vices) back then. What happened to them?
My guess is that they got old and retired. But I think that's kinda unrelated to this.
-
@Raphael:
The admirals (not the vices) back then. What happened to them?
I've been wondering that, too. I think it would be cool if one of them became a pirate. Perhaps one was Sengoku? And maybe Kizeru is the same as he was back then.
-
Did Oda ever say what the mysterious item was that Franky bought? 'Cuz I don't remember seeing it.
And here's hoping Franky will build the Straw Hats a new ship bristling with guns for Usopp to play with. -
Even if Saul beat a couple, he failed to beat ONE of the Vice Admirals.
He sank five ships actually while the surviving five were probably those with a Vice Admiral aboard.
Anyway, Sauro had the bad luck that Kuzan went ashore to deal with him personally because, as a melee fighter, Sauro didn't have a chance against his Logia Fruit. Sauro might well have squashed Sakazuki or any of the other three Vice Admirals if they got anywhere near him.
I do agree with you though that the Vice Admirals (and their various aides/bodyguards in Garp's case if for nobody else) are more threatening than the actual ships themselves.
Technology has most likely advanced since then, so this Buster Call may be much more than just cannons and wooden ships - perhaps these ships have become actual Battleships - made of steel with many more cannons. As such, we probably won't see the SH beating down a Buster Call for a long time.
Considering that we saw a galleon being constructed at Dock 1 back in Water 7, I doubt it. If technology had advanced in thirty short years to the point that steel ships are a viable option, then why are old-fashioned pirate vessels still a threat?
The Navy might have an ironclad hidden away somewhere as a secret weapon, but them being able to construct more modern vessels in any large number doesn't make sense in light of the fact that pirates in wooden vessels remain a threat.
I mean, if you could build a battleship out of steel, why not use the same amount of steel to build many more smaller ships that can patrol a vastly wider area and can more efficiently deal with piracy?
@Raphael:
The admirals (not the vices) back then. What happened to them?
Well, Sengoku became Naval Chief of Staff; who knows what happened to his predecessor or colleagues? They may act as Advisors to the Gorosei on military matters, are retired, or might even be dead. Depending on how old Kizaru is, he might have been one back then as well.
As far as Sengoku goes, I wonder if he acquired the Gensui honorific for Ohara or if it came later on down the road.
-

But metal ships do exist, Franky landed on one after he got hit by the sea train 22 years ago and used it to fix his body. And it looked like a cargo you can find in the real world.
-
That all depends on if Garp is in the vicinity of the area. Which i doubt.
I hope we get to see the Vice-Admirals in action.Assuming he's still at the Marine Headquarters training the two, then it is quite possible. Stephen's translation say they are going to dispatch from the HQ, so it seems natural that Garp would be part of the fleet.
-
…And therefore Koby and Helmeppo.
BTW, I love your avatar! -
@Raphael:
The admirals (not the vices) back then. What happened to them?
maybe they were killed by gold roger since he most likely fought with them on route to becoming pirate king.
-
Okay, board noob here, so sorry if it's been mentioned before… (I couldn't find it... but didn't look in every thread.) but does anyone else see a connection between Water 7's huge fountain and Ennies Lobby's huge waterfall? It's not a Knock-up Stream, but it could be something like it -- the water has to go somewhere even in Oda's world. (Gods know what the underlying geology of the Grand Line is like anyway... freakish is a mild way to put it.)
I'm thinking the easiest way for the Straw Hats to deal with Buster Call is to run from it.
I'm not sure beating Buster Call is the kind of closure Robin needs. Unless everyone surviving it is considered beating it... but it might be for her, given how convinced she is that most won't. And given that we saw Luffy take on several thousand average Marines already... he might be able to hold off a few of the ships, but likely not all. He's only one guy. Running is their best option. Where and how has always been the sticky point here... I'm not in favor of them going through the Gate of Justice. That would appear to put them at Marine HQ way too soon (but Oda could still pull a fast one). The Straw Hats aren't ready to bring down the World Government yet - Luffy just declared war on it. It's gotta sink in for everyone. (Plus he needs to fight/face more Shichibukai first -- traitor pirates tick him off.)
However, they do now have 50+ Franky Family dismantlers and the Galley-La carpenters sitting around unsupervised for the next 30 minutes... they might be able to throw something together in the way of an escape vessel.
I'm also hoping Smoker's close enough on Luffy's tail to get caught up in the Buster Call... and once he gets there, refuses to kill Marines just 'because'. Randomly destroying a Marine installation certainly wouldn't seem to fit with Smoker's idea of Justice. And it would make for some choice tension and division in the Marine ranks, eh? There's a whole fleet of men willing to follow someone like Smoker just waiting to be rescued from Ennies Lobby that way...
I have to wonder about Aokiji's motives, given that he gave the Golden Den Den Mushi to a complete loser wimp like Spandam in the first place... why?
