Wow what a piece of shit law. Silver lining I guess.
What I read from some hungarian comments was that the election was legitimate, but unfair because orban owns the media. Whenever I talk to internationals from corrupt countries it's always the same story; Why oh why do ignorant rural folks always ruin everything for everyone everywhere, even for themselves.

Yeah, it's ridiculous how many outlandish and downright insane things the government advertised during the campaign. It's actually be funny if I wasn't living in this reality.
As soon as I get this month's salary, I'm taking out my money and convert whatever I can to euros. Partly because I'll need it for surgery and partly because at least I'll have a non-shitty currency while the exchange rates aren't laughable.

I was just gonna post this. Mélenchon goes up in the polls, but also does LePen… the second round between LePen and Macron looks more complicated than expected!
If LePen passes it's gonna be the end of a lot of things...
We'll have the results of the first round by Saturday night at 8pm. Second round comes 2 weeks later

le pen and melenchon both deep in the pockets of putin

You know…I doubt most political parties in Europe are free of Russian financial influence.
England has had a lot of suspicious links made public between politicians and russian oligarchs over the past month cough Lord Lebedev cough. Of course it's never directly linked to Putin, but that's irrelevant given the structure of billionaire's in Russia (hence why sanctions focused on them).
And Russia isn't the only guilty country. Just look at the amount of property in England owned by foreign investors. God help us if we ever decide to fall out with the UAE.

Mélenchon's role model isn't Maduro or Putin, it's Mitterrand !

Yeah we’re two weeks away from the secound round, the catholic far-right could very well pass

The Ukrainians found and arrested Medvedchuk.

As it is reported in Swedish newspapers it isn't formally declared, but it's seeming like a done deal since the Finnish opinion is for it, and the Swedish position is to join eastern Sweden in whatever it decides
-
This must be how Finland and Sweden view the Natomobile, while Ireland, Cyprus & Malta zip off into the clouds.
[hide]Ireland and Cyprus would join it in two seconds if not for the fact that the countries they're most directly worried about are already members.

Can't join the protection club if ya abuser is already on it.

There are so many people out there who think that Lepen can't have any real leverage because Trump didn't succeed to turn the US into a dictatorship… like, I guess it's a fair point and he failed indeed, but it doesn't mean that all the far-righty leaders across the world are gonna fail too--- every far-right winger aren't the same. To be very honest I don't have much arguments against them, and even though I'm still 100% against the far-right, I feel like a cuckold to vote for Macron especially since he has the approval of Sarkozy the gangster that he befriended...
-
The West think they too good to have an far right incompetent buffoon as leader even when they have Bojo, had Trump, Berlusconi and others. Meanwhile Orbán is on the fourth run, Putin since '00, Erdogan since '03 (the last two are not in UE, but not for the lack of Turkey trying). All that is needed is to win one election, and win the following one.

He only failed in some respects. His base is emboldened, the quiet part gets said out loud routinely now. Cryptofascism is mainstream in America. The USA is worse for his presidency, and there will be lasting effects both political and social as a result of it.

And have supported - financially, politically, or even via outright coups - dozens more in the global south's "vassal states". Another facet of foucault's boomerang, I guess. After exporting it for generations, it's coming home to roost.

I know that damn too well, there was 2 US-supported coups here, one in my lifetime even.

I'm now convinced the staff at No10 are secretly feeding Boris edibles before he pitches his ideas to the cabinet.
Shadow secretary: excuse me prime minister, can you repeat that again for the room?
Boris: well…err...we....um spots the tray of brownies....send all the asylum seekers abroad. PROBLEM SOLVED!
Health secretary: oh so… France or somewhere near in Europe?
Boris: errrm….spins globe bar ...er...here. stabs the map with his grubby little thumb.
Chief whip: In…Rwanda? Now talking slowly You want to put all the asylum seekers in RWANDA?
Boris: yup Snarfs another brownie
Minister of state: the place with the genocide?
Boris: Genocide…hmmm sounds delicious now with chocolate all around his face and clothes
PR team: sweating bullets muttering to themselves we are ruined.
Catering staff: dying of laughter as they restock the brownie tray
Defence secretary: And what about Russia?
Entire cabinet: STFU you idiot throw chairs at defence secretary
Boris: We should celebrate with a party slowly scrawling across the the table to another tray of brownies
Corbyn: Wouldn't this be a massive betrayal to the British people?
Entire cabinet: Erupts into laughter while racking up fat lines off Boris's now catatonic, partially clothed, brownie crumb-riddled body

Apparently the pride of the black sea fleet was taken out of the war by Ukrainian neptune missiles. I've heard that it'd be about ten billion dollars and roughly ten years to get it operational again making it finacially impossible to recover in the foreseeable future. The speculation on how they managed to get past it's defenses are, if true, quite cunning.

The Moskva has not failed in its primary objective of remaining afloat; it's just transitioning into a new special operation as the base for a coral reef.
Anyway, yeah, confirmed as sunk.

Oh so they admitted it sank huh. Neat.
I believe this was also the go fuck yourself ship.

Happy Easter!
But - How could the barbaric Other do this to Holy Thing?
-
Meh, there's enough cross fragments to build a new roof for Notre Dame and have spare to make a rocking chair.
-
How would you even verify such a thing? Whip out a Holy Geiger Counter, and see if it hits the threshold?
-
You bring a gaggle of priests to sniff it. They compare it to their pieces of jesus stuff and see if it smells right. Then you can put it on your warship with good conscience

The west does this, but bit by bit.
Brits thought there was no way Brexit would pass, until they woke up the next morning.
Americans thought there was no way Trump could win even after Brexit, and yet….Our countries (especially America) are now very very very disabused of this notion. Anti-Trump Americans are very freaked out at the possibility of what he almost did and could still do, trust me.
The problem is each major Western country has it's own personal arrogance, and in this regard you're absolutely right. Meaning basically that the French might be all "Oh haha. please we're not like the (lol) Yankees and Brits, we already thought of them as embarrassing simpletons. FRANCE would never do THAT."
Each Western country is as you say until it happens, and learn nothing at all from the other western countries who went through that process. -
Trump, Boris and Le Pen have monopolised on voters being fed up of decades of rule under of your typical cardboard cutout lying politicians.
When the concerns of the people are ignored it creates radical opposition powered by people that would accept massive character flaws in exchange for their voice being heard.
Immigration being one of the key catalysts across the political world driving voters further right.
But this is the karma we face from the left destabilising the middle East in exchange for cheaper fuel.
But no matter what the pendulum will swing, and we will go from left to right and awful to awful.

Russian losses/deaths has passed twenty thousand according to Ukraine sources. And Russian talkshows are blowing up over how it's time to stop being "nice" and declare war because the moskva sank, and Peskov is ranting about how they'd better stop attacking Russian territory or else he'll have to declare war. Soo i guess total mobilization and mass conscription is about to happen once the excuses have been put in place for why the mean US forced them to

I dont think Russia is able to do it, they have already thorwn everything but kitchen sink against Ukraine. Only realistic war assets left are mass mobilization (aka Human waves) or Nuclear/ chemical strikes.
Russia has spent its heavy armament and its forced to send civilian cars to ukraina to help logistics. Much like tanks, throwing them to enemy does not work like it did during 1940'sAlso Russian propaganda has sold its citizens message that Russian military has been perfectly successful on every front and that barely 1000 soldiers been lost .If they a
suddenly announce need for full scale war they would lose massive credibility In eyes of elder Russian populace..
-
I mean if it comes down to chosing betwenn a humiliating international climbdown and rewriting the at home narrative i'll bet that they'll start telling people that we had kids gloves on, but then the US gave them killer death rays they are using on innocent Russians and now we need to step things up. And people will be confused, but fall in line and send more warm bodies for the glory of the motherland.

Absolutely nothing is gotten in exchange. Populists are cardboard cutout lying politicians that exist entirely for grift and personal prestige.
The difference between them and vanilla politicians is celebrity wrestler like charisma, sociopathy, and narcissism. And because they build personality cults their followers can and do worse off under them than most other politicians, but still slavishly support them to literally death. No matter how lame the standard politicians are there's no fucking excuse to support populists lol. They're always worse than the bland usual crap.

I'm not sure the populist alternatives have been much better. At least in recent years.
! >!
!
Or for you folks! >!

Theseunicornvanilla politicians don't exist anymore (Outside of Jacinda Ardern). I mean… Bernie and Corbyn once roamed the political savannah, but i'm pretty sure both were shot and mounted to the wall in the Whitehouse/No10. And the contrast between this apparent choice of 'ghoul' VS 'celebrity loonatic' politician is only growing wider. The US's next presidential candidates are likely to be 'the ghost of someone watching paint dry' VS 'the lovechild of Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage'.

Really hoped it won't come to that. There's a big difference between poorly motivated professional soldiers and fanatical volunteers who can't wait to get their turn in.

The concerns of the people in this case being respectively for each of them: "THERE WAS A BLACK GUY IN THE WHITE HOUSE AND THAT MADE MY WHITENESS INSECURE", "MY LATENT HATRED OF POLISH PEOPLE AND A LYING BUS AD", and "MUSLIMS CONTINUE TO EXIST IN LE FRANCE HON HON HON AND WE CANNOT HAVE THAT".
-
I can't speak for France and the US, but you're right about Boris lying. And given the past two years of COVID, I'd imagine pulling on the heartstrings of people wanting more money invested in the NHS to STILL be an affective weapon. But if the public has learnt anything from this, it's that we need immigration (working visas) to make this country function, because not even 6 months after curtailing migration from Eastern Europe did we see food, fuel and hospital staff shortages.
As for voters, I think leaning away from projecting voter stereotypes is a positive means to stemming the divide in all three nations. It's this volatile divide that allows both sides to be pushed further into the extreme end of their political spectrums, not to mention generating more riots and emergency measures that curtail the freedom of the populace.
I mean, does anyone think that calling the left 'snowflakes' or right 'racists' is helpful in any way?
Let's look at some examples of why this is damaging.
In England we have a huge issue with the size of the population, resulting in their being a constant battle between building, conservation and agricultural industries. These groups constantly fight over land which is needed to fulfil carbon, food and housing targets. Because this hasn't been managed, we're either dependant on other countries to solve these issues, or by making short-sighted decisions in government. This could be through importing energy from dictatorships, giving the green light for more nuclear power stations or by expanding housing onto brownfield sites that are needed to meet carbon neutral targets in 2050.
My point being that the population of England is too large, and cannot be solved if the 'racist' card is thrown out whenever it is addressed. We need to limit the amount of children people have, and the amount of people that enter the country each year if we want the lights to stay on, the people to not starve and the carbon footprint of our country to become neutral. I can't stress how hard this is, even without the triangle of competition existing.
eg. To meet our carbon targets, we will have to double our woodland/tree cover by 2050…..DOUBLE!
I feel like David Attenborough's life work culminating in him focusing on overpopulation (population growth) is a testament to how big of an issue this is.

My Ukranian friend sent me another message:
!
I don't want to jump into believing the worst,
and I'm very much unqualified to fact check any supposed new information,
but reading this made me feel concerned enough to share it.I'd like to know what the more informed posters make of this.
Is there any verification of anything at all concerning a nuclear "scorched earth" plan coming up? -
People sure believe in that whole "i'm crazy you don't know what i'll do" bravado Russia keeps putting out. The men at the button are old comfortable swindlers who have no more desire to die than you or me.
-
It would be somewhat darkly funny if Putin did use nuclear weapons as it would illustrate how pointless it was to annex Crimea all those years ago.
The Russians have been either embarrassing themselves or getting embarrassed since they started this bullshit conflict. Why not commit another fuckup just cause.
-
I always here his name comes up whenever he says something that’s supposed to be considered important.
Nice to know he can be ignored.
-
Wait now the Maidan was ABSOLUTELY AND COMPLETELY not a popular movement that got hijacked by the national elites and flared up by national media into achieving a more self-serving and US aligned objectives like what happened in Brasil '13-16?
-
The popular movement was literally begun because the president refused to sign a treaty that would make Ukraine more western-oriented…
