Gotta love how they keep pushing the whole "Damn foreigners! They won't tell us what to do!" angle, hoping no one realises it was British judges deciding it was unlawful under British law.
Sadly, far too many people will fall for it. -
This new anti-immigration law that Macron passed with all the votes of the far-right is starting to give me the same headache as Brexit and Trump's election did.
-
@Nilitch and people thought Macon was a cool bro. Politics in a nutshell
-
@Nitwit
I...I...I don't think anyone ever thought he was cool. Like no one. Ever. -
To be fair, some people (especially non-French) thought Macron was cool and whatnot because when he was elected in 2017, the US had Trump.
-
@Nilitch
In comparison to Trump, people might think Bukele is/was cool. And only ancap and cryto bros wank to him. -
Sweden's application to join NATO is officially approved after Hungary's parliament votes in favor: https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/26/europe/sweden-nato-accession-hungary-intl/index.html
-
That means they are no longer officially a neutral country then? Still, probably the best course being close to Russia.
-
Let that sink swedish economy like the Vasa sunk.
-
@Johnny-B-Decent keep in mind nuclear weapons and worst-case scenario death by toxic waste.
-
A sad day for Europe yesterday
-
@Kdom EU is now right wing run country now. You can come to America we are not that insane with politics
-
@Nitwit You know that they do actually have left wing political parties than can win elections in contrast to the US, right?
The circle of liberal democracy for the past 50 years, I wanna say more but let's cut around Thatcher and Carter start rolling neoliberal austerities
Also forgive Argentina, they are very confuse and just wanted to fit it.
-
@pariston_hill the cycle oof! Yup, we are truly doomed. Forget what I said I’m dumb.
-
Someone made a TLDR version on this world event
-
French politic had a crazy week.
Macron made the most stupid decision of his life. Republican party president decide to ally with extreme right. He was demoted by others members but justice decided it was not legal
Left parties manage to ally eachothers after having infighting all european campaign and this morning Melanchon just showed he is as dumb as Macron. -
@Kdom said in European Politics Thread:

Anything in particular...?
-
@pariston_hill The Left pretty much united. Some deputies will not run for the campaign for different reasons. I think that's what Kdom is referring to. Some of the deputies in LFI (Mélenchon's party) have been ousted and some are calling it "a purge". Trying to make obvious comparisons
-
@Nilitch
Like the imbecile calling Mechenlon's mild pro palestine comments antisemitism? If so that's ludicrous.And I think the polling is overestimating RN due to it's victory on EU congress, leading more than 340 departments seem a tad much.
Macron's party seem to be leading only 3 overseas departments, if so he so much overplayed his hand.
-
@pariston_hill Well I just checked and apparently the word "purge" comes from the union of the left itself haha. Because 5 deputies were pushed aside.
Oh don't worry. The French will fuck this up. They learned how to suck that big old collabo swastika down their throat for a while now. It will be over within three weeks. Faster than the most effective blitzkrieg.

LFI did not reconducted some of the deputies that had been elected on the first round in 2022. I find it pretty stupid since that is just giving points to those who disagree with Melanchon.

You guys wanna know what loving to massacre innocents does to your brain ? As in, supporting Netanyahu's current genocide. Well it does this https://www.yahoo.com/news/nazi-hunter-klarsfeld-causes-stir-164028404.html?guccounter=1
@pariston_hill I don't feel fully informed, but at least I know you can already change your sex on your ID at the court for free. This is completely demagogic to bring this up as if it was "a new crazy progressive idea" since it's basically already there. Anyway, I guess there could be people considering voting for the right only because of the transgender-mania.
-
@Nilitch
He's going with the fail proof centrist strategy of gaining right wingers by adopting their polices. It has worked 0% of times it was tried, but this time it will work. -
@pariston_hill Marcom makes me scratch my head off with his strategy.
-
More news on this mess
-
@Nitwit
tv politics pundit mode: he saw the left disunited and tried to make him and his party the only option against Le Pen.me: french bourgeoisie backers are forcing him to be Hindenburg for Le Pen so the welfare state can be further pushed back
also me: he is a liberal centrist obviously he is a political illiterate and will do whatever his bourgeoisie backers (and his groomer) tell him to
CIA spook mode: just like with UK elections this is a means for putting hardliner right wingers of principleless people in power for when Israel escalates against Hezbollah into a ground invasion of Lebanon.

IT'S POLLING TIME.
I looked closer to that poll that you can find here https://www.opinion-way.com/fr/sondage-d-opinion/sondages-publies/opinionway-pour-cnews-europe-1-le-jdd-barometre-legislatives-2024-21-juin-2024/viewdocument/3422.html
And despite being ordered by far-right wing news, there is nothing that suggests vote intentions for the second round.
I mean, I have no doubts the French will effectively fuck this up. But the gap between left and far-right is getting tighter each week. Here is a poll ordered by Macronist news. https://archive.wikiwix.com/cache/index2.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ifop.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2024%2F06%2FROL24_20240620.pdf
It's the most recent poll that gives the best odds to the Left. We got +5points from June 10th to June 20th
-
Not Australia has fallen
-
It will be over for France in 11 days now. Any last words ?

The UK is so fucking done
It's pathetic.
Labour are all but guaranteed to win the next election with a sizeable majority, they don't need to go grovelling to bigots like this, but they're so desperate to get the right-wing media on their side (Plus they want to start getting their hands on Rowlings money again).
Don't think it's going to happen though, Rowling has already said she won't talk to them unless they get a few prominent anti-trans groups on board too. -
@aku-chan
Labour will win soundly. Will gov't exactly as the torries have done in the past 14 years. Kier will be ousted within a year or so and replaced by Reeves or someone else. And pas the keys in the next election to Farage's party, the ghost of Mosley or some turbo fascist torrie.Once again, social democrats being the moderate wing of fascism.
-
Interestingly all of the west is going far right and people get used to it
I like how all day the French were so hyped about the lowest percentage of abstention since Mitterrand but all of that was to see the far right as first political party in the country. Hahahaha what a bunch of sore losers
Liberals are such a bunch of freaks that they still bring up their beloved hOrSe ShOe tHeOrY after welcoming the far right and embracing their ideas !

Hey, when you're ideologically empty you can accept anything that maintains their privilege and protects capital.
-
The left will vote for Macron against the RN like they have done every time since 2002.
Not so sure about the other way. Maybe it would be best if the left came first that they keep 3 candidates... -
-
Exit poll for the runoff.
The Left is expected to finish with the most seats, Macronists in second, and the Right in third.
-
Nice. Very nice.
Now let’s see how hard it will be to rule with nobody having a majority of seats
-
Yes things will be quite complicate.
Seing the RN so low was a good surprise but the next elections are only in 3 years -
I'm waiting for the first European bankruptcy since the great depression
