Does anyone know when the conventions are, btw? Are they even happening this year?
The Democratic convention has been postponed from July to August (and will probably just end up being cancelled entirely/done online). The Republican convention is in August, but the NC governor refuses to allow it to happen with that many people so Trump’s threatening to pull it (and will probably relocate the convention at one of his resorts).

I'm honestly surprised RepubliCon 2020 wasn't already slated to be held at Mar-a-Lago.
@Cyan:
I'm honestly surprised RepubliCon 2020 wasn't already slated to be held at Mar-a-Lago.
Eh, with Trump rage-twetting about this, he might be setting for that to happen. I wouldn't put it past him, and Florida would certainly accept it considering it's made sporting events "essential."
The steele dossier has been proven correct on most counts, in fact, given it was just a raw intelligence portfolio. And there is a LOT of evidence of crime. Including to Trump himself admitting to most of it on television. Have you even heard of the Lutsenko dossier?
Democrats will report the Steele Dossier was correct, Republican's won't. My intention was to speak of the validity of what was in it. Politics will forever be dirty. But it was funded partially by Clinton's campaign, which I find questionable. Till this day it's stated on all media to be unverified. A safe legal stance, for a politically motivated document. That's the only conclusion you can come to until something verifiable comes to the surface. Therefore as of yet, no Russian Collusion was verified.
This is where presently Trump wants to use Barr and Durham to put an end to it, and we'll see how it goes. But can you answer why Clapper, Susan Rice or Brennan stated on the media on live television of collusion and even treason, but when testifying under oath, they say no evidence of their knowledge? It doesn't make sense.
Trumps Administration has a valid argument presently. We'll see what happens until they don't.
Trump is being protected by a republican senate. Not holding a trial at all is not the same thing as being innocent.
That happened with Bill Clinton as well, being protected by Senate. It's obvious it was going to happen. It doesn't mean Democrats don't have the power and pull, especially since the media is mostly on their side to push out Trump. Worst case scenario, wait until election for Trump to lose bigly.
Therefore as of yet, no Russian Collusion was verified.
At one point his lawyer actually went on Fox and argued that he hasn't technically done anything wrong because "collusion's not a crime".
That happened with Bill Clinton as well, being protected by Senate.
Yes, because who could ever forget the moment during the Clinton trial when the Democrats voting down having any witnesses app- wait, that never happened before the GOP did it.
It's almost like Trump has no defense and Republicans are the bad guys.
Or like literally the only reason Trump could legitimately be found Not Guilty of Obstruction of Justice is because nobody obeyed his orders to obstruct justice.
No one is questioning why Bernie Sander with more popularity, twice bends the knee, and drops out as suspicious. And why was Tulsi Gabbard the black sheep of the Democratic Party and ultimately sidelined, attacked by even Hillary and defamed as a Russian agent. She was honestly a breath of fresh air.
Tulsa Gabbard is a piece of shit whose only popularity was with the alt-right.
Also AOC is an easy target for the opposition, because she makes herself one for publicity, and plus, she's not bright at all. Tulsi in comparison carries herself professionally and argues her points intelligently
lmfao
Love my breaths of fresh air to be checks notes homophobic members of a weird Hindu offshoot cult that pals around with the BJP.
A breath of fresh air, such as the fresh air released into civilian areas by Tulsi's buds in the Assad regime.
Gabbard is basically a Saran Palin without the folksy political savvy.
His son publicly admitted that the campaign had colluded with Russia in an attempt to obtain dirt on Clinton.
We know Jr. admitted to meet with Natalia. But he didn't admit to collusion - conspiring with the Russians which would in effect be saying, "Hey guys, I committed a crime". The best course of action of course should have been calling the FBI first before meeting with Natalia to avoid this train wreck of media circusy. Doesn't matter though - no crime was had.
At one point his lawyer actually went on Fox and argued that he hasn't technically done anything wrong because "collusion's not a crime".
The Mueller report also indicated the same thing that collusion is not a crime.
Also another statement in the Mueller Report: “The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”
Short transcript of a CNN interview with a former AG.
MUKASEY: Russian interference happened for sure, but cooperation and conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russians did not happen. And that was—
CUOMO: To a criminal level, no says Mr. Mueller.
MUKASEY: To any level.
CUOMO: I don’t know about any level. But to a criminal level I’ll give you.
If you think Tulsi carries herself professionally and makes points intelligently, ok fine, but if you then add that AOC is a dumbass easy target then I can only conclude you came here straight from /pol or some similar alt-right den.
Tulsi's main fanbase based on polling was literally young white men.
The polls didn't give further detail on the exact nature of these young white men, but the internet tells the rest of the story yes.
@Monkey:
Tulsi's main fanbase based on polling was literally young white men.
The polls didn't give further detail on the exact nature of these young white men, but the internet tells the rest of the story yes.
Now now now this is actually a very very diverse group of young white men.
You have the young white men who instinctively hate the concept of foreign policy and have duped themselves into thinking that Tulsi will pull out of all of America's international commitments (this is usually paired with rhetoric about "Russia's backyard" or "Iran's sphere of influence".)
You have the young white men who have Palestine and Syian flags in their twitter handle (which is usually something like HANDS OFF ALEPPO) that wax lyrical about "bold anti-imperialist crusader" Bashar al-Assad and also wept when Iranian George Clooney got killed.
You have the young white men who just really really hate Muslims but also present themselves as principled leftists and find Tulsi to be the ultimate outlet for their psychosis.
And then you have the biggest group, the young white men who want to fuck her.
@Cyan:

You're conflating collusion with criminal conspiracy. His admission to meeting with Natalia was an admission of collusion.

Now the goalpost's being moved.
The Muller Report did establish that there were numerous attempts at criminal conspiracy, which were mostly foiled by the Trump campaign's sheer incompetence. There have also been a suspiciously large number of secret meetings between Trump and Putin for no publicly known reasons, and the CIA was so concerned about Trump's loyalties that they pulled a spy out of the Kremlin so he/she wouldn't be outed by the president and killed.
The bottom line is that Trump and a good chunk of the people working under him were (and still are) disturbingly supportive of the idea of working with a foreign enemy to win a presidential election.
Why would you ever trust someone like that?

To be fair, he's not a particularly good conservative.
He once spent half a week threatening to take away their guns and mocking Republicans bought by the NRA.
Speaking of Tulsi, I had to look up her picture, as I curious about the whole finding her hot thing. For some reason I thought she was African American, but I guess I mixed her up with someone else. Though she's not that much attractive to me, and just feels sorta fake. That and her looks remind me of Rachael Ray :wassat:
Ann Coulter hates him for not being racist enough
Good news: turns out the average independent voter isn't completely braindead and knows that Trump did a shitty job on corona. Trump had a very tepid rally around the flag effect from the crisis, which is almost unheard of. Trump is really getting hit by his terrible crisis management. He is very beatable.

https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/2020/05/26/day-1223/ Day 1223: "Shutdown mood."
1/ Trump spent Memorial Day weekend mocking female politicians, tweeting about conspiracy theories, and golfing as the U.S. death toll from coronavirus neared 100,000. In a series of tweets and retweets, Trump called Stacey Abrams “Shamu,” mocked Nancy Pelosi’s appearance, and called Hillary Clinton a “skank.” Trump also revived a long-debunked conspiracy theory that MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough killed his intern when he was a member of Congress, and claimed, without evidence, that mail-in voting consistently results in ballot stuffing and voter fraud. Trump spent both Saturday and Sunday golfing at his private club in Virginia. He made no mention of the sacrifice Americans honor on Memorial Day or the lives lost from the virus. (New York Times / Washington Post / CNN / The Guardian / CNN / Mother Jones / NBC News / New York Daily News / New York Times)
2/ The WHO temporarily suspended testing of hydroxychloroquine as a coronavirus treatment in order to review safety concerns about the drug. The suspension comes in response to a global study of 96,000 hospitalized patients across six continents that found patients who took the drug were more likely to die or develop heart irregularities than those who did nothing to treat the virus. Trump, meanwhile, announced that he “just finished” taking a two-week course of hydroxychloroquine. “And by the way, I’m still here.” Trump has repeatedly promoted hydroxychloroquine as a “game changer” and recently claimed he has been taking the drug for weeks as a preventative measure against the virus. (Axios)
3/ Trump suspended all travel to the U.S. from Brazil by non-U.S. citizens. Starting Thursday, all non-U.S. citizens who have been in Brazil in the past 14 days will be denied entry. Brazil has the second largest number of reported coronavirus cases behind the U.S. and has become a hot spot for the virus in the southern hemisphere. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has dismissed the virus as a “little flu” and has pushed to reopen the economy. (Axios)
4/ The Pentagon’s acting inspector general submitted his resignation, more than a month after Trump effectively removed him as chairman of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee, which was tasked with overseeing $2 trillion in emergency coronavirus funding. Glenn Fine’s resignation takes effect June 1st. (CNN / New York Times /Washington Post / New York Times)
5/ Trump threatened to move the Republican National Convention out of Charlotte if North Carolina’s Democratic governor doesn’t allow the event to go forward at full capacity. The convention is expected to draw roughly 50,000 people, and the state’s health and human services secretary has said that the GOP should “plan for the worst” because large gatherings will be a “very big challenge” if the number of coronavirus cases in the state continues to increase. Trump, complaining that North Carolina was still in “Shutdown mood,” tweeted that the “many thousands of enthusiastic Republicans” who are planning to head to North Carolina in August “must be immediately given an answer by the Governor as to whether or not the space will be allowed to be fully occupied.” If not, Trump added, “we will be reluctantly forced to find, with all of the jobs and economic development it brings, another Republican National Convention site.” Florida Republicans, meanwhile, said they would “welcome the opportunity to host the Republican National Convention” if Trump decides to pull the event out of Charlotte. (Axios / Tampa Bay Times / Politico / NBC News / Wall Street Journal)
6/ Trump’s reelection campaign promoted a top political adviser to deputy campaign manager. Bill Stepien, who previously served as the White House political director and had been advising the reelection effort, will serve under Brad Parscale, who has been campaign manager since 2018. Trump recently “erupted” at Parscale after seeing polling data that showed him trailing Joe Biden in several swing states in the presidential race. (Politico / New York Times)
7/ The Justice Department will not pursue insider trading charges against three senators, but will continue to investigate stock sales before the coronavirus market turmoil by Sen. Richard Burr. Prosecutors will close their investigations into Kelly Loeffler, James Inhofe, and Dianne Feinstein. Burr’s mid-February stock sales, however, have drawn scrutiny from the Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission. FBI agents recently seized his cellphone. A couple of tweets by Trump
got a link from Twitter attached to them labeled "Get the facts about mail-in ballots" and links to another twitter post with the headline "Trump makes unsubstantiated claim that mail-in ballots will lead to voter fraud"
Trump's response:
is now interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election. They are saying my statement on Mail-In Ballots, which will lead to massive corruption and fraud, is incorrect, based on fact-checking by Fake News CNN and the Amazon Washington Post….....Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!
Same reason Mitt Romney voted for impeachment… which he never would have done if he was actually the deciding vote.
On that note, with his vote on impeachment as well as Biden being only 3 points behind in Utah, it makes you wonder if he will be so bold as to endorse Biden at some point? Because if the numbers are good, you might as well do it anyway. The GOP sure fear a blue Texas and Georgia this year but if that happens, it really won't be that shocking for Utah to flip as well. And Mittens is popular enough there to survive anything. It's just a question of if he has the guts? I mean if he does, sure the party might be steamed at him but at the same time he can maybe take a leadership role in how the party wants to go forward post Trump. You'll have a lot of people wanting to run in 4 years kissing Trump's ring to become the next Trump but Mitt is the obvious pick to be the "moderate" voice to cool that down or even fight it off. Plus Biden did encourage him to run for the senate, maybe he paid off the good will with his vote already but…. Like I said in a previous post, people should not underestimate Biden's relationships with GOP leadership not named Trump or Mitch.
If there was anyone who could pull off West Wing level feel goodness politics it's probably Biden. And if I am wrong, eh business as usual with regards to the king of Mormons and the party politics we tend to have.
Biden can pull off the West Wing because he basically invented “We have to destroy social security to save it”.
Biden can pull off the West Wing because he basically invented “We have to destroy social security to save it”.
Or maybe it's that Biden had made these strong lasting relationships that are even stronger than political lines. Again will fully admit if I am wrong here but one thing I truly love and respect about the man is he has shown kindness to people of all types from Bernie to Lindsey Graham to Mitt Romney it all says he is a man who knows how to win over people from the other side on all angles and I for one am happy to see that. I am not trying to say what will happen or anything but if there is one guy I can see make bridges to solve a lot of our issues? It's Joe Biden and it's why I truly hope he wins this election. A president that rules by caring and listening is very needed after Trump.
Do you think Democrats in Congress want to get rid of the Electoral College, why or why not? -curious on everyone's thoughts-
@Dorobō:

Yeah, that would be actually pretty cool, indeed if that happens.
Do you think Democrats in Congress want to get rid of the Electoral College, why or why not? -curious on everyone's thoughts-
Of course they do. Two out of the last 5 elections have been stolen by it, and it gives some states way more power than they should have. But at the same time its not worth the political capital and effort it would take to do it instead of… literally anything else.
I'd rather they focus on the single most important thing and work to get a Green New Deal through. (Hey, that'll help the now broken economy ravaged by covid, so bonus.)
Literally nothing is more important than that and that'll be a hell of a fight given the tax codes and programs that will be involved. Every progressive cause for rights and pay and college and healthcare is great, but saving the damn planet is on a ticking clock. As good and as important as other things are, they can wait a few years. We NEED to get solar standardized, reduce oil burning, plastics creation, protect some fishing areas, (we've used up 90% of the world's fish, apparently) and all the other stuff we've we've guessed at for 100 years, known about since the 80's, and really known about since the 00's, but have chosen to ignore.

@Dorobō:
The GOP sure fear a blue Texas and Georgia this year but if that happens,
I am a lifelong texas native and that will never happen, not in this election. Maybe in another 10 or 20 years as the cities get bigger, at which point the electoral college is done anyway, but this isn't going to be the one that turns it.
It does NOT matter what any polling is saying right now, Texas polls are always worthless. They always poll the cities and ignore the rural. And they make that mistake EVERY time.
Cities in Texas are roughly 60-40 for blue. Rural areas go 90-10 for Red, and have tipped the scales by 800k-3M votes in every statewide election for 50 years.
As a result, before any state election, there are always stories of "this will be close, the state is turning purple! The polling show blue is at 52%! " Then on the day of the vote, the early votes come in from the cities, because they're more organized, and due to the large population, it looks like Blue might actually win for a change. "They're ahead by 50,000 vote, wow! The state is going to a Dem!"
Then rural floods in and Red easily crushes it.
Every single election, no exceptions. So, don't get too excited by anything you see about Texas turning. I can guarantee you they're polling Austin and San Antonio and Houston, while ignoring Pflugerville and Mansfield and Haddington.
I don't know why pollsters never learn or figure this out, maybe because its just a better story if its close, but it's how it ALWAYS works.
Trump is truly disliked so this might end up being closer, But Hillary had nearly 4 million votes in Texas (more than the combined populations of several smaller states) and still lost by 800k votes.
I don't know enough about Georgia or Utah to say anything about them. But whatever the Texas polls are saying, its almost certainly wrong.
@Cyan:
n Iranian George Clooney got killed.
I've since changed my mind and decided that Iranian generals look more like Robert Deniro impersonators.

This sounds like one of those when hell freezes over scenarios.
But i guess its a thing now? Tipping point Texas.
Texas isn't so far from it as you might think, but experts tend to agree it's not there yet.
When it comes to state alignments there is no hell freezes over. Things have wildly changed over the decades in terms of what parties dominated, as well as how they did.
No election as far back as I can recall (since I was too young to really be paying any attention to most anything about 1996) has had Arizona as anything other than a solid red state, and it's very very possibly going blue this year. Might even wind up with both senators being Dems, wiping out Mccain's legacy red seat in the process.
This sounds like one of those when hell freezes over scenarios.
But i guess its a thing now? Tipping point Texas.
See my above post. No way in hell it happens this year, but its naturally getting there as the cities grow and get larger populations, and more brown folk have larger families.
In 10 or 20 years it'll be there, but not yet. Go back to earlier versions of this thread years ago and I was saying even then maybe by 2028.
The election for senate withthe hugely unpopular Ted Cruz versus super charismatic ORouke came close by Texas standards… but was still 200,000 votes apart and that was just a midterm, a million votes less than a presidential race gets.
A fun read by a conservative professor (although I wonder how conservative) about how Trump is the least masculine president in history:
https://www.comicsands.com/illinois-man-grabbed-female-reporter-2646106908.html
I think my favorite quote is:
"He is, instead, working-class America's dysfunctional son, and his supporters, male and female alike, have become the worried parent explaining what a good boy he is to terrorized teachers even while he continues to set fires in the hallway right outside."
Do you think Democrats in Congress want to get rid of the Electoral College, why or why not? -curious on everyone's thoughts-
The majority do, as the electoral college is an old, worthless system that made sense in the beginning post-Revolution but now is utterly pointless as we don't have to ride horses to deliver votes.
The problem is removing the Electoral College requires a Constitutional Amendment. That is very hard to do by design.

Given all the Gabbard talk thought this worth noting:
Tulsi Gabbard drops defamation suit against Hillary Clinton
Former Democratic presidential hopeful Tulsi Gabbard dropped her defamation lawsuit against Hillary Clinton Wednesday, citing the coronavirus pandemic and importance of defeating President Trump in November.
Gabbard sued Clinton in January for suggesting she was a “Russian asset” whose candidacy helped Trump’s reelection chances.
“While they remain certain of the action’s legal merit, they are just as certain that this new COVID and post-COVID world require them to focus their time and attention on other priorities, including defeating Donald Trump in 2020, rather than righting the wrongs here,” Gabbard’s attorney Dan Terzian wrote in a Manhattan Federal Court filing withdrawing the suit.
Clinton said in October that Republicans were “grooming” a Russia-friendly Democratic presidential candidate who could help Trump.
“I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who’s currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate,” Clinton said, referring to Gabbard without naming her.
A Clinton spokesman previously called the suit “ridiculous.”
Gabbard, who represents Hawaii in Congress, was the only Democratic primary contender who opposed Trump’s impeachment. Her small base of support was made up largely of Republicans and the handful of Democrats who support Trump.

Republicans would vote for the Zodiac Killer if he had an (R) after his name.
And in the case of Ted Cruz, they did.
Ted Cruz is probably a legit sociopath. Sent the son of his recently deceased sister off to some military school. It's only my nephew fuck him. Later poor guy tried his very hardest to have an emotion when using his sister's death to seem human, which was the most forced and unconvincing piece of acting I've ever seen. I also can't understand why anyone would willingly stand in line and use the right to vote on that guy, aside from muh guns and muh fetuses I guess.

1/ Twitter added a fact-check label to two of Trump’s tweets, marking them as “potentially misleading.” Trump falsely claimed that mail-in voting leads to widespread voter fraud. In response, Twitter – for the first time – added a banner notification underneath each tweet that reads, “Get the facts about mail-in ballots,” and brings the user to news articles about mail-in voting and Trump’s claims when clicked. Trump’s tweets, according to a spokesperson for Twitter, “contain potentially misleading information about voting processes and have been labeled to provide additional context around mail-in ballots.” There is no evidence that mail-in ballots result in higher rates of voter fraud. (Washington Post / The Verge / NPR)
2/ Trump threatened to “close” Twitter and other social media platforms after Twitter labeled two of his tweets about unsubstantiated claims about widespread mail-in voting fraud as “potentially misleading.” Trump tweeted that social media platforms “totally silence conservatives voices” and that he would “strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen.” Hours later, Trump continued, singling out Twitter, and claiming that everything “we have being saying about them (and their other compatriots) is correct” and that there will be “Big action to follow.” Trump can’t unilaterally regulate or close public companies, and any effort would likely require action by Congress. (Axios / ABC News / NPR / Associated Press / Business Insider / Politico)
3/ A conservative organization working to restrict voting in the 2020 election is part of a dark money network that has been helping Trump remake the U.S. federal court system. The Honest Elections Project announced in April that it planned to spend $250,000 on ads warning of the dangers of mail-in voting, accusing Democrats of cheating, and using misleading data to accuse states of having bloated voter rolls while threatening them with lawsuits. HEP has also filed briefs in favor of voting restrictions in several states and is often represented by the same law firm that represents Trump. Despite presenting itself as a distinct entity, HEP is a legal alias for the Judicial Election Project, a conservative group that has played an instrumental role in Trump’s unprecedented effort to reshape the federal judiciary by appointing scores of conservative judges. (The Guardian)
4/ Trump’s press secretary has voted by mail in every Florida election she has participated in since 2010 but insists that mail-in voting is rife with fraud. Kayleigh McEnany defended Trump’s unsubstantiated claims about mail-in voting fraud, saying: “Absentee voting has the word absent in it for a reason. It means you’re absent from the jurisdiction or unable to vote in person. President Trump is against the Democrat plan to politicize the coronavirus and expand mass mail-in voting without a reason, which has a high propensity for voter fraud. This is a simple distinction.” Florida, however, does not have absentee voting. Anyone can vote by mail without a reason. (Tampa Bay Times)
5/ Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Congress that the Trump administration no longer regards Hong Kong as autonomous from mainland China after the Chinese Communist Party unveiled a new security law that will criminalize sedition, foreign influence, and secession in Hong Kong. Pompeo’s pronouncement could trigger sanctions or other punitive measures against Beijing. Revoking Hong Kong’s preferential trade status would also hasten its economic and financial decline. The 1992 Hong Kong Policy Act allowed the U.S. to treat Hong Kong as a separate entity from mainland China and required the State Department to assess its autonomy from China. RESIGN: Today we learned that House Speaker @MikeTurzai has known that Republican Members have either tested positive, or been quarantined, and withheld this information from Democrats including those of us who serve on the committees with those members!
These same Members were among those leading the daily shouts to reopen the state. They yelled and screamed about it being safe for others across the state to gather, while they were testing positive and notifying each other, but none of the Democrats that work with them! One particular Committee appears to be hardest hit, & it’s a Committee I serve on that has met more than any other in the State during the pandemic. Our Members lives, and the lives of their families, were put in grave risk to protect the LIE that people are safe to gather.
Members in this room have small children, elderly family members that they care for, spouses with autoimmune diseases, and lives that constantly put us at risk of inter acting with others. For me, my story wasn’t supposed to be told, but here goes…
In late January I secretly donated a kidney to a person who lives about 10 blocks from me in the City. He was dying of renal failure and I turned out to be a near perfect match. I spent several days in the hospital and several days with fifth a friend before returning home.
My recipient began to improve almost immediately and his long term prognosis is strong, and none of this was ever supposed to be public. People are cynical, especially about politics. And so I decided to share the donation with only my friends, staff, and family.
Now, months later, in the middle of a global pandemic, I’ve discovered that my Republican colleagues exposed me, and my Democratic colleagues to Covid-19! They covered that information up because they were simultaneously arguing that the risk was low, or non-existent. They lied.
So here’s what needs to happen next:
- All positive tests in the Republican Party, and dates of those tests, be immediately made available to Members of the House.
- The House must direct the Capitol medical staff to immediately refer all Members and staff for testing.
- Republican Leadership must be investigated by the Attorney General to determine which laws and ethics codes have been violated, and
- House Speaker Mike Turzai and any Members of Republican Leadership that withheld information about positive tests for Covid-19 must resign.
