I was one of the first to suggest them and if they got cast I would feel so awesome.

Totally fine with the actor being trans or female, but the character in the sub does sound very female, and I hope they follow that. I really like the pitch/sound of the sub voice.
-
WOW. 40 behind Japan? That's insane. I remember, not too long ago when we would come in here, having no clue if the dub was even continuing and talking about supporting all of the home video releases in the hope sales would convince them to carry on.
They have to be wanting to simuldub. We know that Korean studio are literally on week to week now, but the only show they produce is One Piece. I believe they want to catch up now, drop multiple sets at once on Microsoft in time for the final arc to be simuldubbed on Crunchyroll when the Funimation contract expires.Anyone want to hazard a guess as to how much longer Wano will last on Fuji? I read the manga, but don't remember how much was left, and what chapter we are on here.

21 chapters are left to adapted. So, 25ish episodes
-
Woah, that’s sooner than I realized. Crazy that we’ll get egghead animated (and maybe even dubbed) next year.
If they do a simuldub, think they’ll do it for the end of Wano or wait for the new arc to start? Probably they’ll want to hype up the ending of Wano, yeah? Seems like they’ve caught up enough to do it soon, maybe even in time for G5.
-
@Trueblade74-0 who? I’m sorry I have no idea who they are?
-
I dont know if they will be able to pull off a day and date simuldub but i would be fine with a two week gap or even a month

Agreed! There are so many cast members, I’d be totally fine with them being 2-5 weeks behind. I don’t think it’s possible to do same-day, and I would hate to see weekly replacements when an actor can’t make it in for a week or two.

I could see them expanding on the Post-Onigashima part of the arc a fair bit. That stuff felt so rushed in the manga. I wouldn't mind some filler of the Strawhats spending some time with the locals while recovering.

I want a ton of filler there. Worst part of the arc for me by a mile, especially the Yamato stuff. At least slowing it down will make it feel more authentic and less whiplash. I've never felt Oda bugled something so significant.
-
Every story arc so far has gotten filler at the end, so idk why we would expect otherwise
-
@SniperKingSogeking I actually want some filler just this once, to see the poor saps who encounters the newly Emperor-ized Straw Hats.

@Nitwit Terrific Non-Binary Voice Actor who was unfortunately cast in the Netflix Redub for Evangelion where they are awesome but bogged down by an awful script and the controversy behind the recasts and retranslation.

Was the script awful? I remember loving that dub; certainly more cinematic than the original cringy one.
-
@Captain-Krupp oh? That dude. I didn’t say their gender because….. They played as that fire bunny Pokémon and if you were on some NSFW art sites let’s just say I rarely watch the English dub Pokémon anymore without being reminded that the voice act played as the third evolved version of the fire starter bunny…………
-
I thought you didnt say their gender because other posters already mentioned they are non-binary and you wanted to respect that. I dont think you have not been respectful since you still respect their pronouns but still.
-
@Captain-Krupp yeah I just wanna make sure given I’m 30 and not 13 so I don’t know my voice actors these days
-
I am 33 and kids dont really know voice actors anyway.
EDIT: Just so this is clear I really like you Nitwit, and I didnt mean to imply anything you did anything wrong. You always made me feel welcome here.
-
@Captain-Krupp thanks you cool too

@LostTimeLord Anyplace where I could pre order this?
There is now! It's exclusive to the AL store, with pre-orders going up on June 29.
It looks like it adds one extra compared to the Crunchyroll version, an interview with director Goro Taniguchi, as well as accessibility options that the US sets never have (SDH subtitles & audio description). I'm curious to see how "Japanese Audio with English audio description" works, assuming that's not a typo. The listing also implies that the bonus episodes won't be dubbed, so let's hope that's not the case.
I'm not super jazzed about the price (£50 is about twice what you'd normally pay for a new UHD BD), but this looks like the only way to get the film on UHD in English for the foreseeable future.
-
I asked Anthony Bowling directly and he talked about dubbing the film red eps. So if they weren’t dubbed it would just be for that release.

Hooray!! Something to look forward to this week!

Hmm, checked the microsoft store today and while voyage 7 is not up, the cover image for the season was updated to be for voyage 7. I wonder if because of that and voyage 6 streaming early today, it was supposed to come out.

Huh? I'm not seeing it. They've used that Whitebeard v Roger image for the past two or so weeks, even though they don't fight in voyage six. Did you maybe just not notice they were using that image for voyage six?
-
No, I mean when you search one piece on the store the image you click on is one of Oden with text at the top that literally says “Season 14, Voyage 7”.

Oh, wow! I see that now. It's only on the overall store listing for OP, not on the individual products. Weird. Fingers crossed the listing appears soon, then. We had one other instance where it dropped on not-a-tuesday. Hopefully that happens again, though I'll survive waiting until next Tuesday if it drops as soon as then.
Also, hasn't it only been two weeks since the set dropped? What a quick move to streaming.

Watching my new eps on FUNimation now.
Hearing Zoro call Gyukimaru an "asshole" was pretty funny. Guess the Straw Hats will get to curse from time to time also.
-
@G1Ravage wasn’t it a Toei thing that told them to not curse too much? Yeah I know Japan vs American dubs but I heard Toei didn’t like the cursing in the dude so they told them to tune it down a bit
-
I don't know if it was Toei or not, but there is a clear era of "less cursing" from Water 7 through Fishman Island. Most noticeable, before and after, Luffy always says "Kick your Ass", where instead during that period, its almost always "Kick your Butt".
-
Didn’t expect the pronunciation of Rocks’ name but I guess it’s probably how it’s said in the sub and I just listen to too many YouTubers who don’t say it right.
-
I’m sorry what other way is there to pronounce it? I’ve only ever heard it pronounced like the mineral.
-
Not the Rocks part, the Xebec part.
They pronounce his name like “Zheebeck” where I’d always been reading it like “Zeb-eck.”
-
The cursing topic comes up here often enough. Has anyone ever tried asking Anthony about it on Twitter?
-
I keep being surprised by how far they are, Jesus. From what I can find this means she’s recorded through 1044.
-
I know everyone and their dog has pretty much gotten over this but THANK GOD Oda didnt finish One Piece in the 2000's. Because if he did then 4kids would have truly buried the property like they did Tokyo Mew Mew and Ojamajo Doremi the latter of which got an uncut dub after 20 years but no one cared and it was buried. I still yearn for a Tokyo Mew Mew New dub as well.
-
Wow. Corinne recorded that role for three years; what a long journey with a character. Definitely feel for them. But gosh, I can’t believe they’re that far in recording. That means they’re only like twenty episodes behind. I wonder if they’ll have a larger drop as the series moves to Crunchyroll, if they’ll do a simuldub, or if they’ll speed up the releases at all. A lot of questions about the dub’s future that I hope we’ll get answers for in the coming months.
Also, I’ve noticed on the new set some episodes have as many as four ADR directors. Sounds like they’ve found a way to piecemeal it and haul ass even faster. That helps explain how they’ve gotten so far recently.
-
Hey everyone nice to meet you! Long time OP dub fan since Funimation acquired it in 2007. Regarding Corinne, It's crazy to think they've dubbed that far ahead. Still remember the dub drought like it was yesterday!
also, I noticed that the cover image for Voyage 7 was on the Microsoft Store on Sunday. I wonder when it'll actually drop
-
Welcome ProfClover! It is indeed a good time to be a dub fan
-
Almost finished with the most recent set. Noticed two recasts, both in 957: Granny Nyon and Vice Admiral Stainless.
Nyon is weird, because I swear we just heard her fairly recently. Maybe I'm thinking of Film: Red?
Stainless hasn't been heard from in a while, but he had been voiced consistently by Chuck Huber, who was already in this very same episode as Mohji, so it's weird that he didn't voice Stainless also.
-
Yeah I noticed that Nyon was not voiced by someone who clearly has a deeper voice and is doing an old-lady voice.
-
Yeah I noticed she sounded off too she just didn’t speak enough for me to linger on. I believe you’re thinking of the stampede tie in filler, I think she spoke a bit. So whatever the issue was probably arose recently
-

She was in the Stampede tie-in episodes at the beginning of Wano, and I'm pretty certain she had her usual actor there
-
I'm still just watching based on the Voyage physical releases, which means I'm waiting to start WCI right now. Maybe I should skip to the collection sets? That would be irritating though.
Zou was fine dub-wise, but I have a newfound retroactive hate of the arc and most of the new characters in it, so that made it harder to enjoy. The Marine Rookie filler though was fun. Probably the first filler of post-timeskip one piece I've actually enjoyed.
-
Why do you hate the Zou characters? I love them even if I do sorta agree some reveals make them less likeable.
-
The mink's general clingy affection levels just comes across as creepy to me, and the constant comedy of Brook having dogs wanting to bite him was just in poor taste to me. I also don't like that an entire nation of these beings just exist that are strong enough from early childhood to fight off invaders. This was the introduction to Kaido's top men, and instead it's constantly soured by notes that Jack couldn't win without resorting to playing dirty with poison, or that Sulong (which I also hate now after Wano) would've completely wrecked the issue.
Making the big reveal that Raizo was really there the whole time actually has the opposite of intended effect to me. Sure we're supposed to admire the minks for their refusal to sell him out, but it also means Jack was right the entire time. And as we learn eventually, Jack wasn't crazy or unreasonable at all. He knew 100%. With that in mind, Jack's torture feels....really half-assed. He doesn't threaten to drag any minks to the Wano slave camp or bringing them to Kaido. Only Neko and Inu get hit with losing limbs even though it's free game, so why not cripple more of them? And why stop at just 1 arm and 1 leg with Neko and Inu. That might all sound too dark for One Piece, but those are the stakes that we're supposed to believe were at issue here, and instead we get the Mink tribe completely recovering and battle ready for revenge (thanks to the Strawhats, but still).
Knowing all I know of what's to come from Wano just makes me less forgiving and more critical of all these things that only lightly annoyed me the first time around long ago. The only minks I really ever ended up liking are cause of their contributions in WCI.
Not gonna tell people not to like Zou or it's characters. I just have a strong personal distaste for this arc and all that happened. At least the Dub performances were all still pretty good, even with the weird talking phrases the minks use.
-
I actually had one major problem with Zou even before Wano and that's Robin and the others falling asleep and letting the Samurai get out of their sight. If Oda didnt subvert the expectations of a disaster happening due to that I would have had one of the biggest dissapointments ever with One Piece, and even then it was a sour taste because Robin was majorly out of character there.
-
Hey I’m still stuck in Dressrosa with the DVD’s and finally got back on the wagon. Can anyone tell me if all the original Straw Hats cast since Funimations beginning with One Piece are still around voicing the same characters?
-
Yes, all the straw hats have kept the same VA’s the entire run.
