Rokushiki, Fishman Karate, Newkama kenpo, Hasshoken, and dials all exist and have been used by villains (though not many pirates). There are plenty of different techniques that he's shown individual fighters to use. However, many rookie pirates don't have access to those sort of techniques because they come from specific locations. While it would be nice to see more variety among the origin of the Supernovas powers, it's reasonable that they're almost all devil fruits. Their powers are all already very unique.

I was actually focusing on top tiers of the current era but yeah, we could exclude close combat without Devil Fruits given that Shanks and Mihawk are most likely not Devil Fruit users just like every single marine fodder who gets immediatly knock out.

btw, we know zoan can enhance the user's power but can it also give them negative effects? like say elephant zoan being extra strong but it slows down the user's speed (because well, elephants are big and heavy) or an owl zoan that enhance vision at night but got disadvantage during the day (im under the impression that owls have limited vision during the day).

Spear: Catarina Devon, Calgara, Whitebeard, Sai.

That wasn't because of Doula's character though, but his relationship to Luffy which is still not much developed (keyword: still). Pretty much everybody was looking forward to see Doula finally taking a heavy hit considering that before that he only took a scratch from Law's Mes, though.

OP is such a huge complex world and the idea the majority of top players are DF users actually makes it a bit smaller.

It is a pity the color books aren't available in english. They'd be nice to have. I've seen scans online but a bit hard for me to access so I haven't bothered.

Flashback really are odd balls. But I don't really count it since Brook was normal until he died.

Most of the relevant info was known beforehand (Corazon being Doffys brother, Corazon being Laws mentor, Doffy killing him as well as his father, The fruit giving immortality, Corazon giving Law the fruit which was both logical and expected by many etc.)
The only new stuff was Corazon working with Sengoku (which is obsolete since Sengoku resigned) and maybe the Doffy-Tsuru relationship.
Much less compared to say Water 7 where the flashback was used to both introduce the overall conflict and the main villain of the arc.
Adding to what people said that the flashback put most of the known information into context, It is also used sentimentally to further the divide between the arc protagonists and villains.

I like variety. Like for example I hope at least one emperor doesn't have COC and that some supernova have it. And I always had problem with so many pirate captain having devil fruit( partly because they make you drown at sea).

Conqueror's Haki isn't a cheat code so much as a byproduct. Those who are strong enough to become a Yonko are the same type of people who hav CoC.

I think the reason we don't see it in non-pirates much is because CoC ties into the idea of self-rule. You have to fight for power, not be promoted into it.

doffy is a shichibukai and he has it. how do you know for sure the others don't?

Hancock and Doflamingo both have it. I meant that, in contrast to all Yonko likely having CoC, some Shichibukai definitely don't have it (yet?). Crocodile and Moria would have used it if they had it. Probably same with Jinbe. Kuma may or may not be able to use Haki as a Pacifista, but I imagine using CoC would be very unlikely.

There are. For the Supernova it was that Luffy had a fought an exciting mix up until then and suddenly there's this big character dump and they're all DF users. Adding Luffy it totalled 9 rival captains all headed by the same type of power. It may be they're individual in the effect but it made the OP world seem a little smaller to me. Saying everything weird in OP boils down to devil fruit makes it all a bit 'wizard did it' for me. The percentages for the Shichibukai, Navy & Yonkou seem fine, it was just the SN.
Specifically Urouge seemed to have another bizarre martial art, which I enjoy seeing Oda do (as in the Colosseum), and saying he has a pain-hulk DF is a little less interesting. It would have made him the only non-DF user captain in the group.
It's just what attracts me personally to OP.

It's not really a question of chosen ones, but rather the people with CoC happen to have the willpower to not give up their ambitions and take risks.
Crocodile and Moriah had potential and could have been great pirates, but gave up too easily.
It's just like real life in a sense.
As Asia/Enel/Marigold/Luffy/Coby/Usopp scale and COO, from natural born, to the higly trained, to part of the culture, higly talented, born out of necesity, and born in a crisis, Conqueror Haki should have a similiar scale, that there are people who are born with natural qualities as leaders and ambitious, to those who's drive and determination awaken the ability.
The weird thing is that we haven't seen natural Armament users, does it require actual knowledge to activate it?

The only reason he recouped from losing Ace was because all his nakama were alive, at least that's how it was portrayed.

Luffy's mind snapped at Ace's death, and he broke down to an incredible degree when he couldn't protect his nakama from being sent away by Kuma on Saboady.
Had it not been for Jinbei's words when Luffy was having his breakdown after Marineford ("I'm weak!") who knows if Luffy would have come through the other side of it.
Moria still having the ambition to become PK (albeit with an army of disposable zombies doing the work for him) is pretty incredible, he certainly doesn't give up easily.

Law lost everything he knew and degraded to the point of joining a murderous pirate crew just so he could kill and destroy as much as possible in the time he had left.

Yeah, of course, but it seems she definitely needed Luffy and friends to finally find the "right way" to achieve her dreams. Not to say the experience totally broke her, she found a way to survive, but she still definitely needed some help to do things properly and find a much more proper mental balance.
The whole thing Aokiji told her about finding something she could call her home again.
