Well, putting "Naruto" and "think" in the same sentence is already an oxymoron, 99 times out of 100…the main character in a shonen manga, when it deals primarily with fights, is usually an idiot: you can't expect too much thinking from Naruto. Besides, a pair of chaters before Shikamaru himself told the other guys to stay around and waiting for a chance to help.
Naruto and Bleach IV- Sexy time

Wasn't that Orochimaru? I believe It was is guys(that at the time seemed super powerful, but later got their asses kicked by kids) that made the seal so no Anbu or Jounin could interfere.
yes,it was Oro's men who did that so that nobody couldn't help the 3rd….

So for filling in this week, English WSJ put together a gallery of the volume covers for Naruto (along with some double page colour spreads and the original one-shot). One can just see the life seep out of Kishi's character design between part 1 and part 2. Actually, seep is too slow a descriptor. You can see the life being drained out frighteningly quickly.

Got a link for these?

Viz never managed to utilize Naruto's popularity properly…. if they charge $1 a chapter for global readers outside WSJA they would rake millions now even with so much 'piracy' (online scanlations) going around....
i hope eventually(perhaps some 5 years down the line),they would realize how to cash in 'global phenomena' and do it for OP.....
-
Naruto's treatment by the village made perfect sense before the retcons…. back when the Kyuubi attack was a special one time freak event of nature and sealing him in Naruto was the last second desperate move to seal the fox on the only available infant, that the seal was an unknown quantity, and no one knew what was going to come of the monster or how long the seal would last... and that same horroro was magnified when it was revealed the sand village did the same thing to Gaara... ON PURPOSE.
But in the time since learning that
-Naruto's dad was hokage
-beast hosting is something all villages do
-its a super high honor that goes back for generations (complete with specific clans being extra good at hosting)
-Naruto's dad planned this chain of events in explicit detail, down to splitting the fox chakra in half
-Naruto is the prophesied chosen one
-Jiraiya would have been happy to take care of the son of his student... basically his godchildhas led to the early series making no sense whatsoever.
Really the big problem stems from the change between "Freak accident emergency plan" to "time honored tradition done for generations." that makes the village's interactions make no sense in hindsight.
This same retcon is what also screwed up Gaara's backstory. You know, that making him a freaky monster was always a time honored tradition rather than a desperate mad gamble, and how it turned out the assassination attempts were just to build character.

Viz doesn't have the rights to global distribution. They're only a north american publisher.
They literally CAN'T do that.
-
They don't have any rights for distributing their content outside the US and the new countries they added. I am sure other publishers already have their exclusive rights for distributing the content in the respective countries.

@RobbyBevard:
Naruto's treatment by the village made perfect sense before the retcons
Even then it was pretty bad, since they are deliberatly isolating and antaognizing a young boy to feel completly unloved and unwanted when he has a giant demon inside of him. Because, surely, someone like that who could grow up to hate everyone in Kohona so throughly would never try and release the Nine-Tails out of spite if not use it to attack them.
-
^This.
"Oh, look, that kid has inside of himself one if not the strongest monster ever existed. Better keep him away, never talk to him, spit on his face and let him build up his hatred for us so that one day he'll be able to kill us all."
"Duuuuuuude. Awesome idea!" -
Kazekage's treatment did build Gaara's character…into that of a psychopath murderer.
-
"Gaara…you were loved!"
is still the most awful sentence uttered in the entire Naruto manga. Its like someone suddenly revealing that Bellemere was an insane serial killer, and Arlong killed her for the good of society; Every single drop of emotional investment in the Gaara flashback is obliterated because of that one sentence.Like when Kubo revealed that it wasn't Kenpachi not giving a shit that was the cause of his shitty sword relationship, it was him being unable to hear it…Or when the ultimative shinigami-sword relationship was NOT COOPERATING AT ALL... it just misses the point soooooooo badly.

I don't think that was a conscious decision. Just… a natural fear that developed, and blame for the death of the fourth and much of the village. Especially when he had no parents to watch him. And of course the kids growing up had no idea, and they saw how their parents treated him, and Naruto was a prankster that kept causing trouble... so of course he was treated bad. No one DECIDED "Hey let's ostracize him!" just... no one really thought to adopt and care for him either. (Aside from Iruka, obviously.)
But again, totally falls apart when retcons revealed his dad could totally have lived and raised him and that beast bonding was a normal practice. (Really dad, you gave up your ENTIRE life with him so he could talk to his mom for 5 minutes 17 years later? DUMBASS.)
-
It is largely that what happened in medieval times with doctors who actually knew something or with the then technological better people of the near east so it is not wrong to display the people like that.
-
Also the whole thing with him living completely alone in an apartment was always nonsensical.
And I do mean alone, Kakashi visited it and said the milk had gone bad.
What the fuck Kishi, were you ever gonna explain that? -

Before the retcon, it worked so well to contrast him and Naruto. Both had a demon sealed inside of him, but while they were both treated as a monster, at least Naruto managed to have a few friends, have some people like him…..while Gaara slowly and surely became a killing psychopath. It was interesting seeing a person with similar circumstances go down a much darker path.
Then the retcon......uggh.
-
I think of all the retcons Kishi could have done the different backgrounds of Gaara and Naruto were the worst. Closely followed by the "Itachi was really a good guy". I think it is wrong to declare somebody who killed children who weren't even capable of being guilty of any crime just because of some order as good guy. He was a much better evil guy when he was this insane guy.
-
Kazekage's idea of "testing" Gaara was utterly idiotic in the first place.
As if there was any way a seven year old,a lonely one with issues at that, would be able to keep his cool while sustaining such horrible psychological trauma.I dunno, maybe wait till he matures and builds up some sense of responsibility and affection towards his compatriots, other the one who is going to feint heartwrenching betrayal, and THEN put him through this shit to see if he goes apeshit or not?
Also, maybe you should consider not holding the aforementioned test in the middle of the goddamn village?

Well early Naruto was certainly better (this reminded me in fact how much I liked the artstyle it used to have wayyyy more than Kishi's art now) but it wasn't without it's own inconsistencies. Like the very first chapters, where a boy who can't even make clones masters the shadow clone jutsu in like an hour, after stealing the super secret scroll right under the noses of those 'expert' ninja?
-
But thatagain shows how little kishi actually knew about storytelling even at the beginning and how nobody thought about the story long enough to discover those mistakes. But maybe this is all just acceptable in shonen jump magazine although i am sure that there are almost no mangas that open with a mistake.
-

The biggest problem with Naruto and Thinking is that everybody, inside of the series, is always talking about his intelligence and how mature he is, when in reality he isn't nothing of that.

Yeah the early artstyle throughout the good stuff was something I liked. His influence from Katsuhiro Otomo was clear, and that's a damn fine influence to have.
It held solid during the Sasuke Pot garbage, but it wasn't long into Part 2 where the soul was sucked straight out of it. Which to me is the biggest evidence that Kishi is just running a business now and not actually caring.
Recently the plain amateur confusing stuff is a new twist I'm enjoying though! -

Nope, still didn't make sense even before the retcons. Given the knowledge of such a kid, would you really shun him? I think the more natural reaction would be to play nice with him or to attempt to curry his favor–out of fear, of course, but the alternative is to let the little demon stew, isn't it?

Well I think in this case, Robby's trying to say basically that we had no idea the fragility of the seal. Up to like the end of the fight with Haku, it seemed like Naruto had yet to draw out the power of the nine tails. Gaara was a special case where the Shukaku just vehemently took over his body whenever he slept, but Naruto never showed any signs of being taken over til he became a genin. As such, to be the host of a spirit sealed within him that caused massive destruction in the village, it does make sense that they hate him because of what's in him.
Of course, that's thrown out the window when it became a time honored tradition dating back to the first hokage's wife and where pretty much every village has been experimenting and the mist village even used Rin as a human weapon in a poorly thought out plan.
-

I also always thought the whole 'Naruto and Sasuke being best friends' thing was pretty idiotic in the first part as well…..when there was never one moment of them acting like friends.
-
his only explanation was "people fear what they don't understand"
What does that have to do with Naruto having an apartment?
-
What does that have to do with Naruto having an apartment?
Nothing besides the fact that even the author couldn't even think up a good reason why he's living alone in an apartment as a kid.
-
What does that have to do with Naruto having an apartment?
That's the reason he couldn't break his lease and had a high cost of living.
Duh.
Edit: And Try getting a house loan when you're the demon fox host.
-
The real reason the village resented Naruto is because their tax dollars went to getting him an apartment
-
Well, that and the B.O. - since nobody was around to teach him good hygiene, the dude stunk to high heaven. Probably why the only thing he owned was orange jumpsuits. Nobody else was fool enough to let him in their shop except the outlet supply of Prisoner Jumpsuits Inc.

Viz is owned by Shueisha..so it is pretty much internal matter….so i should better phrase it like 'they should ask the mother company to go global with English trans.."

Naruto didn't even look like a newborn with the way Kishi drew him. He looked like a 3 year old. Limbs were way too long.

I love how Kishi expected us to see that as a happy, joyous revelation.

Gender is an optional, for Kishimoto: you can look like a woman and be a man, or look like a man and be a woman. Or both. Don't ask, it's better. :ninja:

It's that classic thing where on a corsory glance you're like "Wow, lot of female characters in interesting roles without them being female having to be pointed out! How refreshing!"
And then it just turns out to be a bunch of men who look like women. -

Oh!then why Wiki says Shueisha and Shogakakun are the joint owner..?
