There's only one OVA o.o
I provided the raw
egx paid for the gas o.o
Really?
Well, I typed OVA 1 cos K-F wrote it like that on their release…
OK, they didn't XD. It was Baka-Updates that did.. Fixing..
Wow, that was really unespected!
Is this really the one with Gyanzac??
Guys, you really did my day
Unfortunally Torrents don´t work for me. That´s why I always download via IRC. Can I get it via IRC too?
Yep, K-F|Smoker's got it at #169, K-F|Krokodeil at #1, K-F|Birthday at #3 and K-F|Eneru at #1
Thanks sooooo20charactersooooooooo much Vilia.
o_o That was so weird. It was like… watching an episode of Slayers except with One Piece characters. I'm not sure how to feel about this.
I'm glad they recast the voice actors, though, the current ones suit them much more.
Much thanks to everyone who translated and/or hosted this and let us all know about it. It's certainly interesting.
I'm still downloading it. The poor bots are being hammered as usual.
I can't believe K-F is three years old today. Kanpei!
Hail to EGX and RoboBlue for the raw. Let's celebrate K-F 3rd year of HQ subbing eh?
totallly sweet!!
I just found out about this a few minutes ago n.n; and Im downloading it now, but Im really excited to watch it! :3
3 years of K-F, really? Shouldn´t this have it´s own congratulations thread then? Well anyways, happy birthday K-F and thanks for constantly contributing high quality subs for us. You guys totally rule.
Wow nice.. congratulation KF you really are the best (in quality) and most reliable (3 whopping years) and thx for the release!

Oi, oi. We also tried it out on my DVD players and I was the one to rip and send~!
Happy Birthday, KF!
Although its a little weird how, even though its your birthday, you're the ones who're giving out presents.
Can't wait to check it out (the OVA, that is)
heh.. I watched it earlier..
kinda funny,, odd to hear different voices.
I perfer Luffy's normal voice but I also really liked his voice in this. I think I heard it somewhere before… Wolf's rain maybe? Oh well, I really enjoyed this. Pilots (if you can call it that) are always fun to watch. Thanks a lot KF!
Just finished to watch it… eheh, it's strange to watch one piece with a totally different animation/ost/voice actors...
Nami's voice was the only one i cannot stand, the current one is way better than it...
And Luffy's...dunno, his voice sounded most like Naruto's O_O;;;
Anyway, thanks K_F for giving us this sweety! XD
I've heard about this for a long time. I'm hesitant to watch it, but curiousity will get the better of me, because different animation and different voices intrigue me. Too bad it's only Luffy, Zoro and Nami.
The only problem with this OVA is that I have to get use to Nami's betrayal's again, since its before the arlong park arc, and the different voices, which I think that Luffy's voice could have been better.
Annoying little kid? check.
Despotical pirate ruler imprisoning island villagers? check.
Catchy ending song? check.
Looks like the makings of an OP movie to me!
Err, maybe I´m blind or dumb or both but I don´t seem to find the Music Video at any of the bots. =(
try k-f|eneru pack #2
Thanks a lot dythim. Downloading it right now.
I just watched the OVA and, is it just me or did the Crab display a lot of the characteristics of Kreig? Every time he opened up his armour/wing things I got a flashback.
I definitely prefer Nami's voice now than the one in the OVA. They made her, well everyone sound and look so young.
Did anyone else see that meaningful look that Zoro and Nami gave each other at end and thought, hello?
After reading the above, I realise I sound a little whingy - sorry. I did enjoy watching it but I'm glad that they made the changes they did when they started One Piece proper.
Bah nothing can beat Zoro's usual voice in the actual anime. As much as I liked this Zoro's voice I'm too used to Zoro's ACTUAL deep voice that it's just weird.
I can't believe people thought Nami sounded different… heck I thought she sounded the same.
Actually I loved Luffy's voice when I saw pictures of Luffy and stuff before I even got into One Piece I sort of imagined him with a voice like that. Though I can't stop imaginging what it would be like for Luffy's actual voice in that OVA.
You know me and if you do you know I hate those damn bratty kids. So when you thought the bratty kid of the adventure got decapitated I was all "WHOMG YES! THE BRAT GOT PWNED!!!!!!" Then I found out the brat was still alive and it made me cry inside.
The crab in general was a lame villian I thought. I was glad to see Luffy kick his ass. Though the fact that bubblegum of all things stopped Luffy was really... well lame to be honest.
Does anyone have a direct download to it?that link doesnt work for me and i dont like torrents.
I just saw it, and it's okay. Like someone said here, it was like Slayers, but with One Piece characters. It's probably just me, but the music reminded me alot of Nadia.
Hmmm…I wonder, did Toei do the animation for this short? It seem's like another company did.
I liked Luffy's voice but Zoro sound's allittle high. I definetely prefer the new voices over them. Nami sounded almost exactly the same. (The way this Luffy said "Gomu Gomu No...!!" sounded awkward.)
EDIT: I think the VA for Zoro here is the same one from the actual series, just younger. I might be wrong though.

OVA Zoro - Wataru Takagi
Series Zoro - Kazuya Nakai
Wataru Tagaki is Bellamy however.
for the 5 seconds i watched the OVA before deleting it from my computer, i thought that zoro's va was aoki's va from hajime no ippo. anyone can tell me if i'm completely wrong?
Hmmm….did Gainax do the animation for this? It doesn't seem like Toei did. It's not as stiff. And am I the only one who had a flashback of End of Evangelion when Luffy's eye went all wide when the girl was "killed"? I thought he was Shinji for a second.
I was checking the bots that had the OVA and something called "One Piece Soccer King.avi" caught my eye. Anyone know what this is? The file size is smaller than the movies and specials, so I'm quite curious. ¬_¬

That's the movie 4 soccer special, with Oda!

It was Production I.G, who did do End of Eva.

You are correct.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering why it looked so familiar…
I watched it today and it's awesome!
It wouldn't do for a whole arc, but it's a nice little addition. In OP volume 3 Oda-san talks about it, i think.
I just saw it.
I like Zoro's voice here better. Why they got a new seiyuu is beyond me. Luffy also sounds less nasally at times. Again, why did they get a new seiyuu?
I liked the animation, though it was very reminiscent of the older DBZ movies at times (that's not a good thing, btw). It's much better than anytime it’s been displayed in the anime. There’s a close-up of Zoro’s face while he’s in santoryu mode that looks really demonic. It’s that kind of face we haven’t seen in the anime for a long time. And the finale of the Gomu Gomu no Sledgehammer had my jaw dropping. Though, the snap back of Luffy’s gomu gomu attacks is vastly different. There's no sound effect to it. That just isn't right. And Zoro's third sword looked more like it somehow connected to the front of his teeth rather than between his teeth.
It's just a simple advertistment for the series, but it's pretty good. 7.5/10

A bit late to the party, aren't we?
Anyway, as previous posters in this thread have stated, this came out the year before the One Piece anime began, so the fact that it's different from the direct anime adaptation of the manga that started a year later is no surprise. Overall, I enjoy the sounds and voices of the series anime much more (if only because I'm more used to them), though the animation in this OVA (done by Production I.G.) does have a certain mid-'90s charm about it.
Never too late to review a film.
Concering young Medaka, I didn't think she was annoying. It's not like she saved the day or did this vast amount of work that no child could do in real life.
I like the new Voice actors better cause to me they really catch the spirits of the characters they play… but that's just me...
Fucking random!
I seriously didn't expect this. I guess I'll start downloading it…never actually watched the entire thing.
Yeah Medaka was great! She was the most tolerable non manga One Piece child next to Apis and the pirate family of Film 6.
I also liked the VA but the Toei VA sound almost alike just maybe a bit younger no? yes? Animation was great and Luffy really seemed like rubber in this and not just stretchy like in the Toei anime and I liked the Luffy's Sax Opening theme and the final vs Ganzack song.
I gave it a 4 out 5.
I can't stand this ova. The voices are unfitting (especially Zoro, awful) and i felt they completely missed the OP "spirit", it's just your average shonen anime without anything special. The humour, for instance, is nothing like its manga source.
Really forgettable and all in all i'm glad Production IG didn't get the anime series.
When I saw this thread, it reminded me of how I never actually saw the OVA, so I downloaded it earlier and just finished watching it. Now that I've finally seen it, I gotta say that it wasn't bad at all. Sure, it felt way different from the One Piece I'm used to, because of the animation style, soundtrack, and voices, but it was still One Piece, because it had all the basic ingredients for a OP special, like an island in peril, a villain-of-the-week, and a little kid caught in the middle. Also, I guess one of the ways it felt different, because of how Zoro and Nami were portrayed. Their personalities reeked of the early chapters of One Piece (i.e. Zoro being a tad more lighthearted and Nami's loyalty being sorely in question).
As for the token kid, Medaka, I gotta say that I really wasn't annoyed by her at all. In fact, I thought it was cute how she ran around in a suit of armor. Plus, I gotta give her props for being brave enough to take on the bad guys. Speaking of the bad guys, Ganzack was definitely a throw-away villain (as LittleKuriboh put it, in his original YGO Abridged Movie parody). It's kinda effed up how Luffy pwned him, though. LOL
The visuals were great and the animation was top-notch. This was most noticeable during the fight scenes and whenever people got riled up and were yelling (such as the scene where Luffy, Zoro, and Medaka were locked up). Luffy's attacks had awesome animation, but it was weird seeing them without their now-trademark sound effects. If only the series was animated this smoothly, maybe then, people wouldn't be so picky about how inferior it looks compared to Popular Anime A or Popular Anime B.
All in all, it was definitely worth checking it out, especially since it's a part of anime history, being the first One Piece animation.
EDIT Well, goty, when you think about it, OP DID start out like a typical shounen manga/anime with a pirate theme, until it gradually evolved over time, into something much deeper. In my opinion, the first real change began when Mihawk came on to the scene. Before that, Zoro came off as your typical cool-guy-with-swords character. After he lost, he was forced to check his ego at the door from then on and he gained more motivation to become the best swordsman (which explains why he's much sterner than he used to be). Also, the OVA was based on the early days of OP, which didn't contain nearly as much humor as the series does now.

Gotta cut the some slack, this was made when the series just started after all.
I'm not really talking about plot or character development, btw if that was the case the first dozen episodes of the series would be like this, and they're not (fortunately).
Take the art, it's clear they "cleaned" Oda's style excessively, probably to make it something more …usual (a.k.a. generic and boring). The same can be said about the humour. The first movie, while kinda bad and released very early in the series, is much more faithful than this.
If the anime was made this way i would never bother to watch it - and i dare to say it wouldn't be the big hit it is, especially in Japan.
Although I certainly don't hate this, I really don't see this as anything more than a curiosity. I do agree with the poster who said that this has a very Slayers-esque feel to it. I can't say it wasn't entertaining, but nothing really memorable either.
