Well, since we're making predictions and all. This arc, Chad & Orihime will get a new explanation about the origins of their power
Nardo and Bleh Thread III: Naruto is a terrible terrible manga

What I don't get is the need for secrecy.
Would it have been so bad for people to tell him that his dad is a shinigami and his mom was a quincy.
Would of his world shattered? Would of he gone berserk? Would he have gone emo, killed everyone, ect.
I don't see why he would. Them keeping that a secret and having him find out at random times from enemies usually just seems stupid on their part. Why did they feel they needed to hide that from him?
-
If One Piece was written by Kubo
Skypiea - Luffy is a descendant of Skypeans - Wiper becomes an obscure character in the background
Well, that one is probably true, actually.
-
If One Piece was written by Kubo
Alabasta arc - Luffy's grandfather was from Alabasta. The battle become all about him. Vivi becomes an obscure character in the background
Skypiea - Luffy is a descendant of Skypeans - Wiper becomes an obscure character in the background
Fishman Island - Luffy is secretly fishman and suddenly gains 10x strength. Shirahoshi is obscure character in the background
Punk Hazard - Luffy is actually a product of Vegapunk. Who the fuck is Law again?Don't forget his random powerups.
Alabasta arc - Croc mentions how Luffy hasn't mastered his fruit, thus Luffy would have mastered his fruit by end of arc.
Skypiea - Luffy would have learned manta, or what we know now as observation haki
CP9 arc - Luffy would have somehow magically mastered all of Rokushiki moves
Thriller bark arc - Luffy would have been able to keep those 100 shadows and used that power up in the future whenever he wanted
Fishman Island - Luffy would have been able to control Sea King's just like ShirahoshiLuffy would be god tier already if Kubo was the author. Sadly we would also still be at Alabasta watching the Sand blow and crocodiles eyes.

While could be true, it doesn't mean Wiper becomes obscure.
Kubo has a mastery of making someone important in the current arc obscure by the end of it.

What do you mean? Can't you remember all those meaningful contributions CHad made during the fullbringer arc? Or how he developed so much as a character?
-

Assuming sarcasm right?
Only read that arc once and it was week by week so not sure exactly what all happened perfectly. But my recollection on chad is this.
When Ichigo shows up to learn about fullbringer powers, Chad is there and says he has been training.
Followed by chad being brainwashed into loving the bad guy and thus crying at Ichigo to stop fighting the rest of the arc.
Man that had to be Kubo's best writing this entire series. we FINALLY get to an arc that deals with Chad's powers and his role in the arc is not even side character level. It's at best background noise. Pandaman in any One Piece chapter gets more spotlight than Chad in an arc dealing with how his powers came to be and how they work.
-
If there is one fight I'd really like to see on screen in Bleach, it's Chad vs Renji. They both fail so much that I have to assume it'd end with both of themselves dieing when they both simultaneously trip and hit themself with their own attack.
-
Luffy would only have one attack.
Gomu gomu no pistorrruuu

They are Quincy, of course!

Didn't that already happen somewhere around the time Grimmjow and his subordinates invaded Karakura Town? I think that was part of some useless training or something.

wasn't onscreen, nor was it a real fight

luffy DID in fact start coming up with more creative uses after Croc told him that. Such as the gears. but that was more from Aokiji defeating him. Gear 2 is about the most random thing possible.
Skypiea - Luffy would have learned manta, or what we know now as observation haki
He did learn that, just took a while.
CP9 arc - Luffy would have somehow magically mastered all of Rokushiki moves
He picked up the quick movement trick in-arc, and Sanji has since learned air walk… and those are apparently standard for all other marines like Coby.
Thriller bark arc - Luffy would have been able to keep those 100 shadows and used that power up in the future whenever he wanted
That was the epitome of Luffy getting an advantageous enemy power up he should have never had access to. He only did it the once, but he still got a total cheat out of it.
Fishman Island - Luffy would have been able to control Sea King's just like Shirahoshi
He can knock animals out by staring at them and he DID tame the Kraken instantly.
Kubo has a mastery of making someone important in the current arc obscure by the end of it.
Yeah, Shirley sure did contribute a lot to the FI arc as Arlong's sister. And so did Tom's brother… what was his name again?
Luffy gets enemy power ups ALL THE TIME. Mostly because he gets inspired, but he does. Oda takes longer to do it and usually sets it up better, but he still does the same thing. And while Oda remembers his side characters and never truly forgets them... he does sideline them or rush past them most of the time.

That was my point. Kubo would have had luffy get them instantly, and usually with no work involved. Sure Ichigo works really hard between arcs, but accomplishes nothing. Then come boss fight he magically goes the next super saiyan.
Luffy trained to learn each power up he got, through blood and sweat. It took months to learn haki. he only learned on Rokushiki move and had to cheat to use it. His gears he had been thinking of for a while before trying them out and they ended up having side effects until his training when he seems to have gotten it so there are no side effects.
Ichigo's poewrups were sudden and forever. Usually it involved having some special blood relation. The ONLY time Ichigo ever earned something was his bankai and he did it in 3 days instead of 100's, 1000's of years like everyone else. When Luffy get's a power up its usually something he saw in a prior arc that he obviously had time to think about and train towards. Ichgio gets his powerup within 10 minutes of seeing it for the first time, sometimes without even seeing it.

Chad's Arc. One of the main characters gets his "own" arc, is totaly inconsequential to the whole thing, completely succumbs to the illogical memory-alteration BS that not only cannot logicaly hold up, but he blatantly disregards the bad guy admiting having done this to him right in his face, is taken out by a punch before the climax of the arc even starts and never in any way does he prove that he still exists for the entiere rest of it.
Yes Den and especialy Shirley could have been used alot better but there is at least some chance they might be in the future. Chad is a "main character" and after several years of absence from the series gets sidelined less then a third into his own arc, described as such by the admittance of the author.
You can't honestly compare the two.
Plus this is probably THE most pissed off Kubo ever made me. I was literaly pissed for a whole week when the "Friendship !" BS with Tsukishima started.
-
Oda sidelines his SIDE characters MOST of the time.
Kubo sidelines his MAIN characters (except Ichigo) ALL of the time.
-
I don't know if Oda sidelines his side characters so much as you guys expect too much.
Take Den, Tom's brother for example.
When he was shown you guys all wanted him to be some huge character and fleshed out and get as much attention if not more than Tom did. Ye there is no reason that he should have. You should not think of it as Den getting sidlined, but as Den fleshing out Tom's character more. We know more about Tom a side character that actually has/had some importance to the story/characters. Den was nothing more than a brother of a side character and don't know why he should have been anything more than that.
-
Oda sidelines his SIDE characters MOST of the time.
Kubo sidelines his MAIN characters (except Ichigo) ALL of the time.
I can't even agree with sidelining the side-characters..actually it depends on the arc. AP, Alabasta, Jaya/Skypiea, W7/EL, ID(alone), PH do a fairly good job at giving the side characters attention overall. But there was some side-shoving in TB, FI and MF. In any case I take that over side-lining main characters.
-
Oda sidelining his side characters? Iceburg has more character development and background than Chad could ever wish for. And he's side character
-
Kubos achievement lies in the fact that he only has 4 major arcs in this whole +500 chapter series, with characters who are litterally only a dimension-door away from each other, and still manages to either thoroughly demean the character or leave them behind altogether. And this is supposed "main" characters; Renji, Rukia, Ishida, Orihime and Chad have been tragedies for years on end.
Also, Hinscher got it right; Luffy will get a second wind of willpower to carry him through if he's angered/pushed to his limits, but its never been the standard "Get angry–>new transformation unlocked" shonen fare. With Ichigo, he has powered up at least 4 times without even realizing it himself. One time by dying.
-
Kubo always gives Ichigo a power-up in a vain attempt to make the character more interesting and/or cooler.
-
I think somewhere down the line Kubo just began to think he was absolutely fricken perfect and has never doubted himself since. Probably after that last breakdown he had.

It's shit like this is why I say Bleach is unique. You don't have this happen in other series, and you can't have this happen in other series, because there are usualy at leats half a dozen people involved who would slap you right in the face were you to try something like that.
-
you know the funny thing is you guys are talking about sidelining side characters as if it were a bad thing. I mean it's in their name "side" character.
Side characters fullfill a specific function within a story after they do there is really no point to keep them around more often then not fleshing out side characters too much can be detrimental to the story.
We don't need to know the backstory of den and shirley, we don't need to know what their future plans are. That said you could make and argument around the question if their role justified them to be there in the first place or if they fullfilled their roles.
-

I wish he'd give him a new attack too, every time I see "Getsuga!!!…..." I just roll my eyes

i think people are confusing words all the time. Chad and Ishida and Orihime and some others like Renji should be considered MAIN cast, but its so easy to consider them as side when talking about ichigo as main character. I mean if ichigo is main character they have to be something else. Thus side characters.
Chad, Orihime, Ishida, Renji, Rukia, ect are way more than a side character like Den, Shirahoshi, Coby, ect. They are waht Zoro, nami, ect are. But Kubo treats them like they are Shirahoshi, Coby, ect.

Shirahoshi and Coby got faaaar more development than Ichigo's fodder buddies.
Ishida, Chad, Orihime, Rukia, Renji should be classified as secondary or something. Since we've technically been supposed to see them develop the most. A side character could be those people that they came across in SS the first time…Um..busty loud chick and loud dopey guy. I forget their names. Did they make fireworks?
-
Then…the only Primary characters are Ichigo and Maybe Aizen?
-
Nah, Bleach's main characters are Ichigo, Getsuga Tensho and Attack From Behind. Hell, Ichigo's not even the main character, AFB is…
-
The main character of Bleach is air, you can tell by how much kubo draws it
-
@No:
I think somewhere down the line Kubo just began to think he was absolutely fricken perfect and has never doubted himself since. Probably after that last breakdown he had.
Of course Kubo is an arrogant prick. That's obvious after any interview he gives. Hell, he even LOOKS like an arrogant douchebag. I mean look at him and tell me that isn't the first description that comes to mind
-
@The:
Speaking of, why hasn't Ichigo tried finding his mom in Soul Society? I mean, I know its hard, but considering how torn up he was over her death you'd think he'd at least try.
Or is it that souls eaten by hollows are completely destroyed? This was retconned away. Your born as a new person in SS. This makes everything involving the Yuichi/Parakeet character nonsense.
-
Then…the only Primary characters are Ichigo and Maybe Aizen?
Just like Naruto's only mains are himself and Saaasukeeeeee ….
-
@Eraser:

What, when did this happen? The fullbring arc started off by Ichigo telling Isshin that if he died, he'd just go to soul society as if its no biggie.
-
if Kubo writing One Piece, we will still in East Blue.. maybe just arrive at Logue Town.
-
You are all so glass half-empty, if Kubo had written One Piece, Luffy would be so much more mysterious !
And please, if there we had to choose ONE main character in Bleach, it would be the pot of black ink on Kubo's desk -
Nah, Bleach's main characters are Ichigo, Getsuga Tensho and Attack From Behind. Hell, Ichigo's not even the main character, AFB is…
I think there was a Gintama panel which parodied that, i can not find it though.
While looking for that parody, i found this:
-
A bit of completely useless trivia:
In my language,"kubo" literally means "coffin".

we should make a "What if Kubo wrote this week's One Piece Chapter" thread in the manga section

Well then we'd have to stop at page 3 of any given chapter. Maybe 4.

I guess I'll take this time to announce a little project I'm working on. It's called, "1000 Questions About Naruto."
The title is pretty self-explanatory. I'm gonna try to write 1000 questions about all the plotholes, inconsistencies, and other points of confusion throughout the series. Questions like:
-What was on that scroll? Did it have really detailed instructions on how to do the clone jutsu? Did it shoot a magic ray that made Naruto know how to use the clone jutsu?
-How come we never see a jutsu learned via scroll again?
-Why did Mizuki recruit Naruto to steal the scroll? Did he really expect an untrained, inexperienced 12-year-old to be able to steal a heavily-guarded, top-secret, forbidden scroll?
-Why was an untrained, inexperienced 12-year-old able to steal a heavily-guarded, top-secret, forbidden scroll? In, like, 10 minutes? I have a harder time breaking into the public library.
-Why did Kishi introduce Iruka and Konohamaru as major characters and then totally ignore them for the rest of the series?
-Why does Naruto wear an orange jumpsuit? Isn't that the worst possible color for a person whose occupation revolves around covertness and subtlety?
It's still in the preliminary stages and I'm not even really gonna get started on it until the manga is over (whenver that may be), at which I'll reread the whole series (god help me) to thoroughly explore and try to make sure all my questions are legitimate. For the moment I'm just writing down any questions that come to my mind.
As of now, I have about 30 questions, so that's 3% of my goal.
-
I think there was a Gintama panel which parodied that, i can not find it though.
While looking for that parody, i found this:
To this day I still don't know if the author was actually serious when he wrote all that.

It would take Kubo more pages to do this much, but I can't match that man's level of craft in only 15 minutes.

It really highlights the jarring difference between Oda and Kubo.

Hahahahaha. Yesss. Who else but Robby the comic connoisseur to create this?
Love how the pretentiousness of One Peach just fumes off the page. Freaking lol at the top of Sanji's eyebrow being its own separate panel.
-
Love how the pretentiousness of One Peach just fumes off the page.
….oh no. You've named it.
Also, the counterpoint from last week. Bleach, One Piece style. Sort of.
…Even condensing 6 pages together it STILL has less characters and dialogue than one panel of Oda's.
-
Needs more white panels and portions of scenery. Also needs more characters standing around and saying nothing. Other than that, it is pretty apt. Also like how incoherent it looks…just like most of Kubo's action scenes.
-
there was one thing i remember where theend of the SS arc was done by OP characters and sanji was aizen. which was pretty funny also i remember starting a thread with swapped authors but its probably lost in the annals of the forum…
-
Ok, that One piece as written by Kubo was hilarious
-
@RobbyBevard:
….oh no. You've named it.
In the same way natural disasters adopt names, the catastrophe that would be One Piece as written as Kubo needs a name for its voyage into dark depths.
–-
I cannot believe what I'm seeing with that condensing of 6 pages. That -should- shut down most Bleach arguments immediately (not like we ever really get those, but there's still a lot of "real life" people I know who I would -love- to show that picture to, as a lot of them like Bleach), but I do not wish to test the waters with it in the Lion's Den at BleachAsylum.

Wrong.. a main character's (fake) death would be spaced out with oda, and the change to buckbeard is too sudden. The sword panel at least should have those blurry movement lines that oda uses to change scene.
