I forgot how short this chapter was while I was watching the episode. I guess that means they did a good job with the pacing, in this case.
I don't mind the Halfbeard compromise. Since I never expected to see it to begin with, I guess another (bigger) hole is acceptable, and honestly, it makes a bit more sense than a guy with half his brain gone carrying on like normal. That shot of Akainu after using Meigo was rather badass.
I approve of the music choices (playing ''I Will Surpass You!'' guarentees that what follows will be awesome), and the new voices are very fitting.
What I didn't like…having Ace's ''Pops'' from beyond the grave was kind of stupid.
Oh, and Marco's -__- face was one of the funniest things I've seen on this show for a while.

Loved the episode.
*Luffy's 8O face looks a lot more genuinely creepy in the anime than in the manga.
*Awesome pacing
*A+ on the music choices
*I like how they effectively "censored" a ripped-off face by replacing it with a hole in Whitebeard's stomach. Essentially, that's censoring "cunt" with "fuck," which is just a tad silly IMO.
*Blackbeard pirate crew ending spread looked kinda gross
*Blackbeard crew entrance was generally pretty good - nice tweaks vis-a-vis the manga
*AMAZING voices for the crew members. San Juan Wolf seemed perfect.
*Great voice for Vasco, but his top-top-top sounds worse than Whitebeard's early gura-gura-gura's. I've always imagined it sounding a bit more violent and phlegmish than what the voice actor is doing for him.
*I liked the "Ace-speaking-to-WB-from-the-grave" scene a lot - mainly because it foreshadows! the big speech that WB gives about inherited will, and Ace living on in Luffy.

Epic episode was epic.
-Luffy's still crying his ass off.
-They added the young Luffy and Ace scene along with the "Gol D. Ace" Rouge scene. They sort of fit in well here.
-Luffy's mental breakdown is….freaky. Gave me a weird uncomfortable feeling....also lots of derp face.
-When Whitebeard towered over Akainu, I was like "You 'bout to get curbstomp, bitch!"
-They extended the fight which I liked, but it still seemed to drag on more than it should of. No half-face. But Akainu made Newgate a woman by giving him another hole. Ha!
-Akainu got fucked up.....badly. Ace fangirls are rejoicing.
-"How can you have so much power with your torso charred?" Siiiiiiiiiiiigh
-The art suddenly got a bit poor near the end. Typical Toei.
-"Oops, they found me."
-It's the Blackbeard Pirates! And they look horribly drawn in that wide shot! Also, Pizarro's color scheme looks..............meh.
-Did anyone else notice that Funi called BB "Teach" instead of the regular Viz "Teech"? Thank you, Funi, thank you!THE NAME OF THIS EPISODE IS WHITEBEARD!!! If you don't like him after this and next week's episode, you need to get quaked in the face.

Did any of you really expect them to have WB's face get burned off in the anime? Granted it makes him even more badass in the manga, but I think they did a good job compromising by giving him a second hole.
And the new BB's are fugly as fuck anyway, so they don't look much worse with bad art.

The fight was surprisingly awesome, Kenji Kuroyanagi owned the episode. Now I know why his work in 481 was underwhelming.
The episode's flow was good, didn't give the very dragged feeling. I'm still having second thoughts on the censorship. So other than the censorship it was a great episode.

I really enjoyed the fight in this episode. WB PAWNCH was really cool. And Whitebeard is totally pissed he lost half his stache. And uh oh, BB pirates on the scene here.

Just watched the episode again. Love it. So unexpected, so impactful. Luffy and everybody (including the viewer if they didn't read the manga) just can't believe he's actually dead.
It's so refreshing to break away from the cliché rescue. It's nice when they succeed, but I'm always like, "wouldn't it be cool if the writer had the balls to just troll all the fans?" And Oda did it!

It was quite an episode, especially for one based off a 10 page chapter. I did get annoyed with the constant "pops" and crying, but it wasn't that bad. I didn't see why using that old film affect was necessary either.
The whole half beard thing isn't that bad. Neither scene made much sense. You either go around missing half of your face and brains, or having 2 large holes through your torso.
The Akainu fight was amazing though. When Whitebeard first showed up behind Akainu, it was amazing. It was the ultimate "oh crap" moment.

While many people were complaining about Luffy not being dead silent at the end of last episode, I actually prefer what they did here.
Instead of Luffy breaking, his crying became harsher. He was without a doubt broken, and while in the manga he just fell apart and once, here he last all reasoning, simply crying, than screaming, and than just silent.
