The theme exists in both One Piece and Naruto, but is executed much differently:

In Naruto, the theme is stated early, and spun with the idea that each generation should surpass the last. However, like Seafarer said, this got completely lost as the story went on, never quite surpassing what it achieved during the Hidan/Kakuzu arc.

In One Piece, the theme of inherited will is also stated early, but not exactly crystallized until the Enies Lobby arc. The way the theme is spun by One Piece is not that a generation is outright greater or stronger, but that people from the past had dreams, and those dreams carry on with the present. You see this theme appear "somewhat" in Naruto, but almost every major flashback from Romance Dawn to Dressrosa articulates this idea in a consistent manner.

tl; dr - Both works have a shared theme, but One Piece spins it in a way that's consistent. Naruto doesn't.

The Hakuba scenes were very nice; I especially liked how the anime made a note to show him slaying a woman.

I liked the Senor Pink bit most to be honest.
I don't really like the way they introduced Sabo in the ark. In the manga, there was still tiny room for doubt, whether it was really him, at least up to chapter 735, but here they are basically shoving it up our throat, screaming "It's Sabo!!". They completely ruined the surprisal of his approach as well. The Luffy scene was completely unneseccary in this episode IMO.

So I really only liked the Senor/Franky moment, but Suleiman/Rebecca also deserves my praise.

I can see your disappointment about the reveal, though for the manga crowd there was a lot more suspense at the time of these chapters' release, because One Piece Book Green falsely claimed that Sabo had died. So for that reason, and possibly that of marketing, it makes sense for the anime team to take a more direct, "yeah it's Sabo!"-type approach.

Ayways, I enjoyed the episode, and how well it maintained no less than five subplots.

Yeah, your right. The Corazon part of the flashback might even be more heartbreaking. On other matters, I honestly felt Brooke's past was far worse than Robins. He was freaking stuck on a ship for 50 years with the rotting bodies of his crewmates. If anybody else but Brooke went through that, they would come out fucking crazy.

But his head did end up a little…broken.

Agree completely. However, as far as the SH's are concerned, they should theoretically be the crew of dreams on the ship of dreams. To that end, they should all (or at least mostly) have powerful haki by series end.
