My money's on a shiny rock.
Chapter 607: "10,000 Meters Under the Sea" Discussion
-
My money's on a shiny rock.
-
Luminescent Gas trapped in a huge bubble. As for the cycle of day and night, it will probably float to the surface only to be replenished several hours after.
-
My money is on the same thing at EL - Where it is always Daylight apparently.
Probably some old technology - even having a Glyph Stone(couldn't remember spelling) In it that will have another reference to Roger.
That's right isn't it EL had perpetual daylight? If so the same thing could be done with FI
-
so what are the odds of a poneglyph being on fishman island?

There's that thing in ID. Can't remember the level, but it's bright as day there.
so what are the odds of a poneglyph being on fishman island?
Big Odds even.

@Panda:
The thing that throws me off about it is that it's actually drawn like, well, sunlight. That is to say, you can actually see shafts of light coming down from above, quite prominently at that. Personally, I would think the various obvious things, that were predicted before this chapter (e.g. bio-luminescence) would simply cause the scene to not be pitch black, but not be a bright enough source to actually cause rays like that. So unless my intuition is off, and I'm just reading too much into it, I'm a bit baffled as to what exactly it's going to be that's causing the light.
Although that said, I'm sure it will be explained, and Oda will have plenty of fun making the mysterious source something totally bizarre and out there.
Well the light that was seen on the starvation hell was never explained and also looked like it came from the sun. But maybe we will get an explanation, and maybe it is actually sunlight that in some way manages to get all the way to FI…just maybe.

That's the most reasonable theory I've heard so far, I think.

Yeah, EL was a daytime island. It was never explained how such a thing could be even remotely possible, though. I think he'll probably have an explanation this time, or it'd feel like too much of a copout. It wasn't a big deal with EL because it didn't really matter much.

i've got it. sunlight iN One PIece is not from the SUN. its how brightly each and every one of us shines. each time you interact with another person, you leave a little bit ofyour sunlight with them, and the more ppl you interact with, the brighter ur light. because every pirate must go past FI, the people that reside there interact with so many people on a daily basis that they are now as bright, if not brighter than the light from the sun.
yup. :ninja:

Oh I get it.. Mystery sunlight.
-
Shouldn't this be in Fishman Island discussion?
-
Hmm, the reason I said that there could've been an easier path was because the vertical rock formations with the glowing light on them, they reminded me of the HUGE roots back at Shabaody. Anyway, maybe next chapter they'll finally get rid of Cariboo. They'll probably be like, WE MEAN NO HARM! WE WILL NOT JOIN YOU!, HOWEVER! WE GIVE YOU PEACE OFFERING!, Hammond: what is it?, IT'S A BARREL…full....of....magic....mud....leatherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....OK BYE!, COUP DE BURST! quick escape

I dont know why im saying this, but i was on another forum and i love when people use a sentence like this: "I cant believe luffy tamed the Kraken with his CoC" lol.

Hmm..but its true, It did made his rubber hard.

Oh god, I hadn't even thought of that! Stop corrupting my mind!!!

Wow, some fascinating and intense conversation going on this week – wish I'd been here to see it unfold and to take part in it. Unfortunately (well, for me at least -- your mileage may vary ...), it's going to be hit-and-miss for me from now until January. So if I don't "see" you before then: Happy New Year everyone!
Two amusing coincidences this weekend related to OP: I went to two different Christmas parties and at the first, I met a guy who is a professional oceanographer and computer programmer (using the latter to make new discoveries for the former). Out of curiosity, I asked him what his specialty was.
"Deep sea" he replied.
"oh really?" ... "what do you specialize in?"
"Hydrothermal vents."We had a lively conversation about vents, volcanoes, anglers, and so on for a good half hour afterwords.
The other coincidence was this evening. I went to the home of some Japanese friends, and they offered up appetizers that were small and semi-circular, in a ponzu-type sauce. They said: "there's a secret ingredient inside..." and wouldn't tell the guests what it was. People were nervous about trying it, but I speared one with a toothpick and took a bite. The covering was very soft, almost like a breading, it practically melted in my mouth. The center held a very rubbery, chewy nugget that tasted a bit like calamari. It could only be one thing:
"Takoyaki?" I asked.
They were dumbfounded. "How did you know?!?!"I simply smiled, refusing to mention the source of my knowledge.
So there you have it, folks -- proof positive that reading OP is good for your social life and for chit-chat at parties!

Time to do a lame joke about the title
Now I can go.

Oh come on, the sushi store that we go to has takoyaki, it can't be that special to know about it.

O.o Where the hell do you live?! The only places I have ever eaten Takoyaki were in Osaka, at like the most famous takoyaki stand ever, and in the Family Mart across from the apartment I lived in during my two months in Japan (it was still delicious even if it didn't compare to the non-packaged, osaka version).
It is my favorite Japanese food _

. . . if I were Sea, I would be trolling you so hard right now XP

I live in a suburb of Portland, OR. Nothing special.
But they only give you 3 per order, which is bull. :getlost:
Great, now I want some. -

Great, now I want some.I need to either visit the supposedly amazing Japanese food complex in Porter Square here in Boston, or make a trip out to Portland some time before next summer (when I will hopefully be working in japan again). Just for takoyaki.
. . . I will probably try porter square first. But still.
(no, not really considering going to Oregon, lol)
-
Oh come on, my whole point was that takoyaki can't be that difficult to find if my local suburban sushi place offers it. Just google it or something, IDK.

I disagree with your point. And isn't portland the closest thing Oregon has to a real city?
Edit: But at the very least, I will admit that Porter Square has some takoyaki, as I suspected and was revealed from a google search like you suggested (but it is the only thing within a significant radius of the city of Boston that has any, so I still say it's not common)

A real city? Dude, Portland is pretty big. We have strippers and everything. My suburb is as big as some state capitals.

Since when does the amount of strippers label an area a city??? lollll

takoyaki isn't the hardest to find. its generally served at small japanese stores, not so much the large established ones since only the small ones cant figure out costs..

Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but I just found this when I was reading old chapters.

Nice, I've never seen that pic. I wonder if Oda is going to carry over any of the details to his new design after he fully reveals the ghost.

Since when Davy Jones = Van der Decken?
-
I blame this guy.
!
-
the most likely thing that is going to happen about van der decken is just people pretending to be davy jones, or using his persona. just like Fluffy did with luffy
-

i thought that at first too
but it seems weird there being 2 fakers this early on, that in my opinion is bad storytelling. Plus their ship is'nt coated so if they are faking they would have to be fishmen and if you look at van decken on page 3 he dosn't look like a fishman. But his crew could be fishmen
i don't think he'll be at fishmen island but im hoping he'll be on the other side in the new world as a villain later on

If van der Decken is pretending to be Davy Jones, you'd think he'll call him self, uh, Davy Jones, instead of loudly declaring himself to be van der Decken.

I'm not sure I understand you here, are you saying that the captain of The Flying Dutchman could possibly not be Davy Jones? You words are just not computing, they make no sense! How could everything I have learned from watching movies not be true!?!

What is not computing? If van der deken was pretending to be Davy Jones his crew would have called him Davy Jones, not Van der Deken
Edit: If this was a sarcastic post then it's aimed at the wrong post
-
I think he's one of those Pirates of the Caribbean watchers who thinks Davy Jones is the captain of the Flying Dutchman.

Yeah, I've seen Louis Cypher deliver some really awfully-presented sarcasm before that made him look like an idiot, but this isn't one of them. His post seems fine.

yes, this. It's almost flattering to know that I did such a good job of imitating those people that people actually thought I was one of them.

Thank you, I think…
I'll admit I'm out of practice with sarcasm and other forms of banter, I've been leading a fairly solitary life with few opportunities for practicing such things. If I fail terribly just point it out to me and I'll apologies profusely and beg for forgiveness.

Stop.

Ah, yes. I was victim to such. :P
Don't worry, Louie, you seem like you've got the hang of it brilliantly.

Slightly off-topic (the current one, at least!); am I the only one who find Luffy's eagerness to show off his new skills, compared to the amount of "real" fights since the break, rather annoying?
So far they've just cut things in two on the run, pretty much :p

Luffy 'showing off' his skills have been a by-product of what things he has wanted to do since the break, taking down the PX and taming the Kraken. There is a buildup to stuff, you don't go headlong into a 'real' fight before everything is introduced

ur a retard. so u want either pure story line, or an epic fight coming out of nothing.

I want an epic fight coming out of story line personally :ninja:
Something I just noticed… If the Strawhats really plan to coup de burst away, they will be forced to leave Surume
Also... how do they plan to coup de burst past such huge sea monster and get away safely? I have a feeling it won't work out the way Franky, Nami and Usopp plan it to...
