Sabo wrote to luffy and ace and knew they will survive the fire. Sabo just knows that they always face great danger and somehow manage to survive. That's just it.
And i do believe that Sabo was mainly occupied by other stuff. Not that he completely forgot Ace but you know…
Yeah maybe but still a fire is something different than a freaking execution at MHQ. WB or not. Luffy know that as well and went the there with all the support
But we will see the explanation why he never showed up all the years… and it will be epic. But really ran to know of Dragon's powers now and how he was able to save Sabo.
And Dragon seems to really keep it in secret that Luffy is his son cuz it seems no one is knowing it... Even Iva not. So maybe Sabo isn't knowing that as well and never mentioned Ace and Luffy to Dragon.
God the Dragon/Luffy/Sabo meeting will be epic!!! Maybe even Luffy's mother.......
-
At least for me: this chapter was confusing to read [..]

At least for me: this chapter was confusing to read [..]
WHY?
It was really well told… besides some people who though Zoro = Sabo
-
@Don:
perfect time to train some haki now…
iam sure of the fact that jinbei will noe ask him about his king`s haki he showed and that they will train to control it.I hope not. This haki is something Luffy must learn to control on his own without any help from others.
-
i agree, haki doesn't seem like something that can be taught, you can train to get better at it, but using it seems to be kinda instinctual.
that chapter was great, luffy finally runs out of optimisim, so heart wrenching. -
@robbybedfart:
Limiting 2 page spreads is a bit unfair, theres a TON of those. But off the top of my head, for a 1 page spread, there's this.
[hide]http://img-c.onemanga.com/mangas/00000002/00000279/16.jpg[/hide]
I'm sure theres a couple others.
Ah come on…does that really count?
-
What a great wrap up to the flashback. Looks like I was right back when Ace first died when I said that Luffy was gonna lose his will to fight and pursue his dream from this. Not only does he have the weight of Ace and Sabo's (he assumes) death, but the memory of his inability to protect any of his nakama back on Sabaody.
So I think we know how he'll get his will back, right? Time for the Strawhats (and Sabo) to come back!
I. Can't. Wait. -
@Thousand:
Ah come on…does that really count?
Its a full page single image splash. I thought of it of the top of my head. That's what you asked for.
You're the one not counting two page spreads. I could find hundreds of those.

Review Time
! Cover page - Sadi-chan: "Mac..mmmm..Donald's"
Domino: "Badup-bababa!"
Shoujou: "I'm loving it!" does magic
! Luffy and Ace's vow to become stronger - There's not much to say about this one other than it was kind of touching. It also explains why both Ace and Luffy chose to leave home at age 17. Also, Luffy created a new meme.
Faceground. I'm gonna use this everytime someone says to me Boa Hancock's not gonna join the crew. Just to show them the next form of facepalm. :ninja: But, enough about trolling trolls and acting like a douche, lets go further shall we.
! Dragon saving Sabo - Hancock-ship Theory (Correct), Sabo being alive (99% correct), Hancock joining the crew (???) Come on lucky number three! Also, a Zoro and Kuina cameo. Sweet.
! Everything leading to present day - It showed that Sabo and Ace had a great influence on what Luffy does. And I must say that was a great development. I like Dadan's reaction to both of them leaving, it's both funny and heartwarming.
! Present Day - We're back where we started. I think how Luffy's acting now is pretty realistic which I like in a story. But, I'm betting it'll last for just a few chapters.
! Now, I end my review with a few words: Party's Bait Anyway, good chapter. -

I might as well explain myself. See, the reason I asked for past pages is because I want to quantify exactly the sheer impact of Luffy's self-doubt. If Oda has never or almost never done a single page splash before, it really goes a long way to showing exactly what a powerful moment this event is. I didn't want two page spreads because apart from them being fairly common, I believe had the epic Luffy kneeling page been a double spread, it would have actually lowered the impact. I know that sounds weird but epic two page spreads of mind blowing stuff, while awesome, in this case it wouldn't have seemed as…personal.
It sounds crazy but I don't think I'd have enjoyed the final page as much as a two spreader as it is now as one page all self-contained and everything.
-
I wonder what choices Luffy will make in the future.
Will he just give up for the time being?
Go back to SA to look for his crew?
Start training again?
-
I wasn't a fan of this flashback until this last chapter and now I can see what Oda was trying to paint here. Luffy's now doubting himself for the first time and this is going to pave the way for future events to come.
For me, Dragon was the one who totally stole this show these last few chapters. Everytime he shows up it's always important to the story, and I can't WAIT to see him step into the fold.
For what happens next, I suspect Luffy will want to learn how to control his Haki and this may be another step towards Hancock joining the crew as the Haki teacher. Either way, the next few chapters are gonna be sweet.
and yes..Faceground ftw.

him giving up would be an interesting perspective actually.
-
him giving up would be an interesting perspective actually.
If he will stay that way till the reunion be sure at least Zoro will "beat" the shit out of him and bring him back.
Zoro is the one in my eyes closest to Luffy and the one who is understanding him the best. But like he did with Chopper at DBF and with Usopp at Water 7 he would clearly say something about it. Even if it would be "cruel".
Zoro wouldn't follow a captain with no faith in himself. That woud be pretty interesting.

Why do I have the strangiest feeling Margerate is gonna join Luffy…
-
Here's my personal official rules to One Piece so far:
1.) Oda is God
2.) Stephen's word is final.
3.) No body? Then not dead bitches!
4.) Barmaids have great plastic surgeons or they are Keanu Reeves and are immortal.
Ex: Makino, Shakky -
Hmm this is a longshot at best and pure crack at worst. But could Sabo actually come looking for Luffy in Amazon Lilly and be the one to kick him out of his grieving period?
If Sabo is alive and with the Revolutionaries, he might have met up with Ivankov who could have told him he/she'd left Luffy in Amazon Lilly. It's just pure speculation though so not too bothered whether the theory is proven or not.
-
Why do I have the strangiest feeling Margerate is gonna join Luffy…
Cuz she is the hottest and cutest amazon from the whole island and only Nami is rivaling her in terms of appearance
Kintama jokes for the win.
-
Glad the flashback is over, but it was good and didn't bore me at all. Too bad we have no confirmation of whether or not Sabo is truly dead.
This really feels like the beginning of One Piece all over again. Luffy will set sail from Amazon Lily and search for the rest of his crew. Perhaps Margarette will join. I'd like that.
-
HE IS ALIVE !!!
sheeesh you guys can't just see the obvious… -

No Oda gave that "hint" about someone who needs a healing for some fodder side character…

I've been thinking a lot about the fact that Ivankov now knows where Luffy is too and I wonder what effect that would have on the story.
-
I wonder how much of this Oda had planned out when he started One Piece, if any. Truly amazing.
I would like Sabo to be alive, but not so he can be killed as well. It would be cool if Luffy would meet his father and Sabo.

I'm confudes as to why people think Luffy is going to possibly give up on his dream, or go around depressed.
I think that this chapter proves that he won't. He has recognized his weakness before (though he didn't know how truely weak he is) and he showed his determination to get stronger and protect those he cares about by developing gears 2 and 3.
If anything, by declaring his weakness, we should not expect Luffy to mope or give up, we should expect him to be more determined than ever to become stronger. Whether this means haki, gears 4,5, etc, and/or something completely different there's no way to tell.
One thing is for certain. The time skip is on the horizon, and we will shortly see just how much stronger Luffy and the rest of the straw hats have become,So yeah, you should know better than to think Luffy would give up or mope. C'mon people.

QFT. Luffy has people who depend on him now. He doesn't have the luxury of giving up, and inside, despite his understandable sadness at the moment, he knows that. He will grieve and be sad, but once he gets a clue about the power of Haki, his determination will know no bounds. Forgeddaboudit!

Didn't Oda actually want to make OP much shorter than he has planned now? (read it somewhere IIRC). I wonder if some of the characters he has atm would exist.
I don't think Oda planned Sabo from the start. It'd be amazing if he did though. I bet Sabo was planned not too long ago… and he created Sabo's pirate flag as Ace's tattoo to give it significance (which would negate Oda saying it was a tattoo error).

I don't think I have a lack of reading comprehension. I simply wasn't paying attention. I can be a little slow sometimes but no need to insult me.
I don't even know where to start.
First of all, you were like the tenth person to make this same misunderstang, and my comment was aimed at those who did in general, not directly at you.
Second, "it's not that I didn't understand it, I just didn't read it right" is not a valid excuse.
How in the hell is pointing that out an insult??? Especially when it's something you already admitted to.You first blame the translators, then when we point out it's a comprehension issue and not a translation issue, you jump to conclusion that you're being insulted? WTF?
Insult is like calling you an idiot for not reading it.
I mean, we got plenty of people here that can help you out with actual examples of insults. You don't wanna hear those, trust me. -
HE IS ALIVE !!!
sheeesh you guys can't just see the obvious…You can't really expect everyone to get the obvious hint of Sabo being saved by Dragon with Mangastream scans (That IMO makes some parts so confusing) at least not after the first read, Aohige's spolier translation make it so easy for some of us.

And I took offense at the fact that you said I had no reading comprehension. I do just fine in that department. Being lazy doesn't mean I can't read well.

nobody said he IS going to give up, just that it might be one of the possibilities and it's a rather interesting one at that. A timeskip is not that obvious and if any I think it will be a short one. This is not naruto (the thought of One Piece Shippuuden sends shivers down my spine). A timeskip of one or maybe 2 moths would be more than enough to get everyone together.
Anyway, allthough what you mentioned is off course the absolute truth, Luffy never went through anything like this ever before. OK, he lost a brother in the past but back than he knew he was weak and had to grow stronger to protect his loved ones but after all this time, his only brother died as well ,and in his eyes because he is the one that couldn't become strong enough so this is a serious breach in his determinztion. Everything he has done to come this far has gone to ruins and can only be fixed by becoming strong enough to protect his loved ones which now are his crewmembers. -
You can't really expect everyone to get the obvious hint of Sabo being saved by Dragon with Mangastream scans (That IMO makes some parts so confusing) at least not after the first read, Aohige's spolier translation make it so easy for some of us.
But mangastream's translation seems fine, it's clearly hinted that Dragon brought a wounded person along with him.
Maybe it's because i've read Aohige's translation before, but it's too obvious to even blame Mangastream. -
I suppose my only complaints at the moment are that Ace died under the misinformation about Sabo, and that Oda did a poor job setting up Sabo's character given he obviously plans to make much more use of him.
Well then there's nothing to worry about because we all know (even though the vast majority of you guys is still playing the denial game) that Ace will return revived in one form or the other sooner or later.
-
I suppose I shouldn't have blamed MS's translations then. I'm no expert in Japanese. It might have just been seeing Zoro that made me focus more on that than on the line about the injury. I didn't really even notice the first aid line until I came in here and they said Sabo was saved(I'd only read the first page of the thread at that time). I didn't really get it, I suppose, that they meant it was Sabo on the first read through the chapter.
-
Btw, about Sabo's line:
"A men of nobility is considered a true noble at age of 18. That's why I'm going to leave this country at age of 17"
When exactly did he say that? It strikes me a bit like something he would say to them at a point where he was forced to return to his family again because if he wasn't with them, then there wouldn't be no need to run away from them. But if then again, he didn't speak with Luffy and Ace anymore after returning home so I wonder where exactly that statement ties in.

He probably said it after they discovered he was a noble, when they were all saying their ambitions over that sea-side cliff.

Jopp. Lots of opportunities to tell them between "I'm a noble!" response: "…and?" and his father catching up to him...

Except everything that he has done since waking up from his injuries IS mope.
Its not that I think he's going to give up on his dream, its just that he has powerful doubts after all that has happened and a whole lot of pain. Doesn't that seem a lot more interesting and ultimately rewarding then Luffy just going, "Oh well, I'm STILL gonna be the Pirate King!" This is setting up for a really epic return to form and growth in strength, and the return of the strawhats, with a good potential for a new nakama too.
It's not about doubting Luffy, its about believing in Oda's capacity for good storytelling. -
Luffy's realization of how powerful the real world is, or the New World, to put it more accurately and how weak he really is was the greatest part of the chapter. His determination has been shaken. But shaken only in the parameter of his current capabilities to move on. This can be solved simply through time, where he'll become 1. physically stronger and 2. emotionally deal with Ace's death and then he'll lose the negative feelings he's having.
One thing I know is that Oda is not someone to dwell on the emotions of characters to the horrible extent like other Shonen manga. So Luffy being down isn't going to last long. He's an upbeat character and his dream to become Pirate King happens to be the most difficult path one can follow. He's just broken because of his brother's death. A bit of time and encouragement from the people around him and he'll be fine. Once he begins training, that will pretty much mean he has let go of those negative thoughts about not being able to become Pirate King.
Honestly can't wait to see a more beastly side of Luffy. He'll become more like the description Garp gave of Roger last chapter.

CarlosNet still translates the chapters, and Legend Manga is using it on their releases, and Franky House hasn't been releasing OP chapters recently but they always used Cnet's translations, and I believe they will put everything up to date, or that they at least take the series again leaving the ones they didn't do but doing the newest chapters.

Sorry, I'm new here, so i have a few questions. How do we know that Sabo is still alive? Whats the importance of Zoro in the panel? What's the importance of Dragon? I'll probably reread it to get a better grasp of it, but it still isn't coming together that well.
-
Sabo being alive is hinted at heavily, but not outright stated. Zoro is just there because Oda likes to do things like that. Dragon is important because he is both Luffy's dad and the leader of the revolutionaries.
-

Dragon brought back somebody injured on the night of the day Sabo was shot down. Very, very likely it's Sabo. The connection between Sabo and Dragon was definately a way to set this up.
Zoro was just there for randomness I guess. Shows his island must not be too far from Luffy's.
Dragon represents freedom, and Sabo's dream is to be free. You'd think his dream will become true when Dragon manages to overthrow the gov't (if he does). This current flashback has shown the OP world and the corrupt mindset of citizens which has come as a result of the gov't taking charge after the Void Century. We already know the importance of the Poneglyphs which reveal the details of the century, and the SHs will be the ones to finally uncover it and do something about it (apparently Roger and his crew couldn't do anything at their time). Sabo is a very important character who represents the struggle of living in a corrupt world.

One step ahead of you buddy.
Excellence, my friend. Excellence! >insert evil laughter here<
