Even thiough this isn't mine, this is a complain from my uncle (who doesn't read the series, so I don't know why this is such a big deal to him). My uncle saw all my One Piece posters and is annoyed that so many of them don't have anything to do with the story (I told them they didn't). I told him that's the way of the colorspread, and now he thinks the colorspreads are a waste of time.

I share this with you only to amuse you.

No indication that they haven't right? I always thought of colorspreads to be illustrations of little things they do on their travels.

Not really. I don't know if Nuzzie was responding to LPS or not but LPS interperated it as such and tried to explain that he wasnt talking about putting them into the openings but putting them as episodes. He wasn't denying that they technically were in the openings he was saying "no thats not what im talking about" simply shortened down to a "no".

He may have been a bit clumbsy expressing that but If you look at the context of the posts you will notice that is what he meant all along.

Well actually LPS wanted them as episodes and Nuzzie responded by saying they were in openings to which LPS responded by saying they were just blips as if trying to say they don't count as being in the opening since they're too short which makes no sense because it's only one picture and they have an entire opening to consider.

One Piece is legendary, but of course I have some complaints.

Rob Lucci's flashback. The Water 7/Ennies Lobby arc is a masterpiece, and it was juggling so many plot points by this time. Then, late in the saga, they interrupt it to show us Rob Lucci's back story, not too long after we had just had Robin's back story.

I loved Robin's back story, but if she was any less of an important character than she is I'd be annoyed to have to stop the flow of the story to witness it. But it was worth it.

Rob Lucci's flashback, it is certainly not something that we'll really need to know in the future, and I didn't really find it interesting.

Damn you, Rob Lucci!

Personally, I don't like the entire East Blue arc and a lot of the things that happen even after that are terribly annoying and make the series really easy to alienate new watchers.

See, this is really hard for me cause I can't really think of any probs I have with this series. This is the exact reason why I love One Piece so much, no matter how many stupid things and factors (Avoidance of death, illogicall bullcrap, etc.) there are in the series altogether, there is still the group of awsome and EPIC moments that ALWAYS distract people from stuff like that :3

I'm going to say something negative about this. Namely that I don't find it sweet or cute at all, and I consider Sanji kind of an obnoxious sexist punk. There is a difference between not beating up a 100-lb teenage girl for slapping you, or taking a stand when you see a husband abusing his wife (or any other example you like)…and mooning and fawning over a deadly opponent who means to kill you, just because she's a fragile flower of womanhood and should be treated like a princess and/or a sex object instead of a competent human being.

Sanji deserves to have that stupidity beaten out of him before it gets him or a crewmate killed. Like TrashCat pointed out, he's already crossed the line a few times and is just lucky he got away with being so careless.

I find his constant squealing over Robin and Nami really annoying (can't stand that in real life either), but I can write it off as a silly personality quirk. Everybody in the crew has those...but Robin's morbid sense of humor/Franky's catchphrases/Brook's bad jokes/Nami's love of money don't make them do anything half as dumb as tea with Califa. It just gets taken way too far in Sanji's case.

I actually like the fact that Oda refuses to kill anyone outside flashbacks. Sure, it gets REALLY over the top at times, but somehow I feel like this is his way of fixing Toriyama's "Die, Revive, Repeat" system. It also makes it a bit more believable when someone who should've died returns.

As for Sanji refusing to hit women… I don't mind it that that much during fights, but it just pisses me off when he does stuff like kicking Zoro because he pushed Nami out of harm's way or deliberately letting his opponent attack him. His gullibility can also get annoying.

Robin: nothing to do yet after skypiea she becomes a prisioner and after that is just OZ no mayor fight after that one
Franky is mixed quite a lot in the crew doing combos with ussop and chopper but then again only mayor fight was OZ

The cooldown arcs are generally not very good. I'm specifically referring to Davy Back Fight and Amazon Lily.

I disagree with everything except #4. Everything with Merry was great, and it was the only good part in Enies Lobby, apart from the awesome Robin flashback. The "balance" thing is nitpicking bulllshit. The lack of development is true, but they'll get it in time, and it will be great as usual. The manga isn't finished and there's been no room for development recently, so you can't complain about something that will obviously be done right, just hasn't been done yet because of timing.

About this Robin's strength thing. How is her one act of picking up/breaking some fat dude suddenly poor balance? Maybe she was using every ounce of strength to do that?

As for Franky and Brook 1 arc a piece for both. I don't think every new character is gonna be as important as the first 4 when you look at their dreams. Franky is only their cuz they needed a new ship. Brook's there to connect back to Laboon. Chopper's there to be the doctor, his dream is just out their and may actually progress in some arc in the NW. The important focused on SHs are basically Luffy, Zoro, and Robin(for obvious reasons). Sanji, Nami, and Usopp just fill in the other big parts.

I don't really hate anything other than lack of important meaningful present time deaths but I'm so numb to that. I just see it as something OP lacks and just won't really compare to when it comes to other mangas.

Only thing I really hate about OP is some of it's fandom.

2.) Lack of Romance…. This is good and bad, its good because it would be a distraction but bad because I want to see some Frobin action.

Robin is a tough character to use. Mainly because Oda just screwed himself over for any events that take place far removed from where characters are centered. This means he has to do a song and dance everytime it would make logical sense to use Robin's powers to alleviate an otherwise dicey situation.

If we are to believe his words from past interviews, he intended for the crew members he currently has loooong before the series took off in popularity. But I do get the feeling the one he 'regrets' or at least agonizes over the most, is Robin. He must constantly be thinking about how to either handicap her or remove her from the main action.

HOWEVER, he has succeeded in doing so to this point. I am hard pressed to think of a time when it seemed OBVIOUS that Robin could simply use her powers to avoid a threatening scenario.

Again, if we're to believe his words, there are some great things in store for her down the line because he's had ideas for her milling around in his head for over a decade now.

And as for Franky, although I think we learned many of his tricks across the span of W7 and EL, it became clear in TB that Oda just explored the tip of the iceburg with the fellow and what he's capable of with his skills as someone that can build a bridge in seconds or improvise weaponry on the field.

As for Brook, come now, he's been with the crew through barely anything yet. We haven't even gotten a taste of what he's capable of and that is no doubt deliberate on Oda's behalf.

I agree, but just like you said, Oda screwed up with her.
She clearly showed owning Pell with her powers, so now its always a question of having her either handicapped or out of action.

The characters are solid, but their interactions with the crew are awful.
Franky is like… "You can call me Aniki" and "Missy" at Nami, and that's about it.
He had many chances to develop himself over the time, but he's been a shadow of the rest of the crew.

Brook is a little better, which is ironic, because he came later, but I still don't feel the same level of interaction I felt when Robin joined and when Chopper joined, for example.

I think this is REALLY interesting plot device, same with a possibility of someone big dying, that when Oda enlightens us to more of this it's going to be ground-shaking (no WB pun intended).

I agree, it will be kind of dumb if Luffy becomes the pirate king but doesn't live much longer to see it through, though that's my guess to where it could be headed. Or he makes it but theres only so much time left (possibly months or years). If he dies outside of the story timeline… that's a heck of a lot more tolerable if he's killed off while the story is in motion unless Oda pulls out a super epic twist to that.

But that's the thing. I don't think he screwed up. He does a fine job using her. He just has to be INCREDIBLY CREATIVE to limit her. And he's done a fine job of it to this point but you can tell he struggles with her more than others.

It doesn't help that he has Brook who, in Luffy's absense, can reach far/high places with ease and without any drawbacks like Franky.

I trust that he has some great things in store for her.

When you started reading OP, was Franky a member yet?

I ask this because I've noticed in readers that picked up mid-way, they have a difficult time accepting crew members they didn't know about when they started reading.

I think Franky and Brook SHOULD feel different though. I mean, Franky is EASILY older than everyone onboard and Brook dwarfs THAT age gap. They feel different but they certainly don't feel out of place. I suppose some of this comes from reading it in Japanese too.

Franky hasn't interacted much with Nami, but he's had a LOT of time and good interaction with Usopp making stuff, (in the anime filler especially) just hanging out with Robin, and dancing with Chopper at a party, etc etc. He just hasn't had as much time to interact yet, compared to say, Zoro and Sanji.

Brook has had even less time., He was only oficially part of the crew for like, 10 chapters before the seperation. And its odd that you say that, since Chopper and Robin felt akward in the cast to me when THEY joined.

Yup. I agree on this, and as noted, Robin felt out of place to me for a long time… and I was sure when I originally saw images of Chopper that he was going to ruin the 5 member crew dynamic... (I originally caught up to the series in mid skypedia) they're natural biases built against something new and different to the formula... but if you see cast pics that have Franky in them and then watch OP for the first time, THEN you find yourself asking "when's that guy going to join?" as opposed to "whats THAT guy doing joining?" and its a very different mindset.

It applies to any series when new characters join a cast later. Riley in season 4 of Buffy was a terrible character, Angela always felt out of place on Gargoyles, Captain Lochley felt out of place on Babylon 5 compared to Ivonova,, and Gizmoduck and BubbaDuck were always akward in Ducktales. (For that matter Webby was out of place too even though she was in the first episode, she was added for the sake of adding a girl to the original comics and she always felt tacked on) Its natural for a change in character dynamics to feel strange without time to adjust to it or for them to get lots of interaction time with others.

Especially in OP's case where the cast is always expanding, but at the same time, there was a massive 220 chapter, 5 year divide between new characters joining. (Skpedia and Water 7 were both crazy long.)

Pell not dying. I mean, I'm all for characters not being killed off, just don't try and make him a hero who sacrifices himself to save a city…..and then just have him fucken live. Common, why can't a bomb that was supposed to be powerful enough to kill off an entire city, kill one person who is holding the god damn bomb.

I mean, it happens EVERY arc, and we all know that for the most part the SH crew will win [eventually], so there is nothing really waiting for you while your watching it, its just watching for the sake of seeing them fight. I think my peace with Pell not dying is the only sign that my hatred of Oda's avoiding death isn't just some blind misguided angst.

Despite my long rants on the lack of Oda's allowance of death, how he handled Pell was classy and I felt it was perfectly believable within the confines of his comic. Pell is a hero. Pell is strong of heart. We didn't 'see' anything.

Worlds different from the garbage he's pulled recently.

This is a ton of stupid with a cherry on top. I encountered your filth once in Runescape, and he was a stinking 4Kids fan. You want a story to end with the hero's irredeemed failure, which shows that your taste in story-telling is vastly below Eichiro Oda's imagination. I don't enjoy Franky fighting because I want a cyborg to beat the crap out of zombies and secret agents, I want to marvel at the cartoonish enginuity that is tightly squeezed into his body. I don't want to see pirates and revolutionaries kill Marines and cypher police just for the sake of defying authority, but because that authority is corrupt and tolitarian. Finally, the meat of your problem is shown in full glory: You simply don't want a heroic story at all; you want all villains all the time. Because you just can't be happy unless everyone else is in misery, or atleast that's how you make it seem.
