It's the TeamFourStar Thread with DBZ Abridged and Pokemon things

Oh, right, no more Ben.

! Gohan: Oh my god, I've killed us all!
Goku: No Gohan, just me. -
There's a lot of little details that really make this great. slap

Bojack movie is dead due to the movie sucking bricks and T4S not being confident it's any good.
-
Gohan did indeed peak.
-
Bojack movie is dead due to the movie sucking bricks and T4S not being confident it's any good.
That's gonna sting all the more when they release the other two Broly movies.
-
Broly 3 has Mr. Satan in it, Broly 2 doesn't even have that bright spot.
-
Broly 2 is made worse by the fact none of the regulars are in it until Gohan shows up at the end… and it'll be grown up Gohan so it won't be Masako... maybe. . it's Goten and Trunks most of the movie. No Goku, Vegeta, Piccollo, Androids, nothing. They'll have nothing to play with there. Broly 3 has Satan, Gohan and Videl at least.
Bojack at least has the side cast doing stuff. Slip in some footage from FighterZ or something if you need to. Not sure what the problem is, they've worked with lesser material. If nothing else they could just run into the ground the obvious Bojack Horseman joke they've been making for years and have the whole thing be a tv show and play on that.
-
I don't even remember anything about Bojack and I've seen the movie at least four times.
They could just make a ten minute mini-episode about the side characters hanging out at Roshi's house and periodically switch to clips of Goku fighting Captain Harlock/Luffy/Jack Sparrow/Tim Curry/Atomsk/Faris etc… with Bojack Horseman's head crudely photoshopped over them.
-
I would watch it if Bojack was just PurpleEyesWTF doing his Sean Connery impersonation.
-
I feel mixed about this. One the one hand, they've foreshadowed Bojack a bunch and after years of that I feel they should follow up. On the other hand, Bojack does suck. I'm disappointed but I feel like I can get over it, but I still wouldn't mind seeing it. It's a weird, middling feeling.
-
Fusion Reborn is the real shit, they should skip to that first and then go back and do Broly 2 and Broly 3.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
There is a grand total of one (1) memorable moment in Broly 2 and that's when Trunks pisses on Broly's head.
That's a more memorable moment than all of Bojack.
-
Broly 3 has Satan, Gohan and Videl at least.
Slight correction, but Broly 3 has 18, not Videl. And I don't think Gohan is in it at all.
-

Hell, both those things automatically make it better than Broly 2 and really Broly 1 if we're being honest.
-
I almost wonder if they're actually really just sort done with with doing DBZA, and anything else is just promises to keep their kickstarter count up. "Yeah, we'll do the Buu saga. But… we have to script it and do it in chunks. So it'll be like, a year or two at least."
It took them a year to do episode 60, and that was a year ago now that they've been promising Bojack. (I know they did the epilogue and Kai shorts)
I understand they've spent a decade on abridged and outgown it, and gotten past the part of the series they're passionate about, AND need to do their own stuff that isn't forever in danger of copyright strikes, I get all that. And yet...
The thing where they're apparently animating their won shorts could be interesting though.

Am I thinking of the second one then?
I haven't watched any of that batch of films more than twice, and not in nearly 20 years. (Bootleg, before the stateside airings had even gotten super saiyan officially)
I've also only seen Lord Slug once, unless you count the abridged version.
-
Am I thinking of the second one then?
Probably. Broly 2 had Gohan and Videl. Not that I blame you for not remembering.
-
More details on why Bojack is dead.
But one of its biggest issues is the absolute lack of conversational dialogue and exposition; it's a very streamlined movie that doesn't offer a lot of room for banter and subversion.
Worse yet is Bojack being a non-character in his own film. He has a handful of actual dialogue, and much of that are just tepid one-liners. His henchmen get it even worse; there's little to no room to make anything new or interesting with them. They're just there to beat up the heroes and then get murdered by Gohan.
The last time we'd felt so stifled was Broly, but we spent almost twice the amount of time on the Bojack script and could only figure out the first 2/5 before we realized… we were miserable.
Also they feel burnt out:
We're burnt out on Abridged content.
We're finding ourselves returning to wells and struggling with the content, especially following Season 3, and we want to get away from it. We need to try new things, like Unabridged, the DragonShortZ, the X in X Minutes videos.
We're finally making new, different, and fun things happen, without all the constraints we've had for over a decade. We've been working on DBZA for 11 years. And while I love it more than anything else in my life… we need some space.
(Also, and I'll be frank about this: DBZA is a nightmare for our professional lives, and while we fully believe it's parody, top to bottom, it's made it increasingly difficult to operate on a professional level outside of our own team, and constantly puts our channel at risk due to copyright strikes and the threat of legal action.)
I'm sorry that Buu is still a ways off. I'm sorry that we're keeping you waiting. And frankly, if you are a Subscriber and/or a Patron and you're not getting what you want? I'm not going to blame you or whine if you decide that we're not worth your time anymore. If you're just here for DBZA and the Gaming channel, and you're not getting what you want? I get it.
-
I'm glad KN decided to elaborate furthermore on the reasoning behind it. I honestly find it understandable and outright commendable to outright state "listen, if you're paying us specifically for the DBZA content, we don't blame you for stopping to pay us. But this is what we're doing".
I appreciate them outright stating that not only are they not trying to put out a sub-par piece of content, but explaining that it's happening on top of a continuous fight with Youtube over the content.
I am excited for the shorts they're doing. One thing I do have a question about from KN's post is over how he said that the shorts are "100% legal". Is it really a full 100% protected parody as long as they're not using animation from Toei? That's how it seems to be implied from their end.
-
I enjoy the DBZA continuity so it feels weird not having Bojack since he's forshadowed. Aside from that I think now would be a good time to retire DBZA especially if they've burnt out.
The Buu saga has a lot of comedy and parody of parody is often a bad idea and they've come full circle on their long running jokes and character fufillment. The hero died and passed the torch and the characters are in a good place and ready to move forward. Nice ending point.

They're still using someone else's character designs and names, so its not something they could ever sell, but yes, it should be much safer for them in terms of being parody and originally created content, there can't be any confusion about them trying to illegally upload an official product in some way.

This is where I'm at as well. I feel like DBZA really struggled with Mr Satan for the same reason; instead of finding a way to wring jokes from a serious character, they wrote different jokes for essentially the same character. Not exactly creatively stimulating.
-
They also had problems with the Ginyu force for similar reasons.
That they played Mr. Satan as… basically exactly the same, feels like a really missed opportunity. Not sure what they could have done differently. Maybe actually killed him and then worked around ath Android 16 scene somehow. Or maybe played him completely straight as an actual badass cool guy that everyone there liked but that was just out of his league... or turned him into the Crocodile Hunter... or just run with the name and made him a Satan worshipper... SOMETHING.

Geebus this is four hours long. Background noise I guess.
Also, just Kirrin and Grant, no Lani? This might be a terrible run.
EDIT: Literally the first 20 minutes are just them going over the rules, cripes. Yeah, this is gonna be bad with no Lani.
-
I've found it reasonably entertaining so far. The bike thing is funny for a minute but really shatters the pacing.
The whole thing is much more livestream-oriented than the usual 20 minutes clips. As long as you're aware of that going in, and that they're figuring stuff out along the way, it's fine.
-
The highlights haven’t been half bad. So weird to see someone who actually likes Binacle.

Finally, someone on TFS who has actual taste.
-
I'm not a fan of how Grant isn't also going in blind like Kirran but I understand that he wants to play on his own file. And he tries to be the wacky one without Lani there and it doesn't work. The random yelling destroyed my ears once so there's that

Grant hasn't been blind on any of their previous Nuzlockes though, and he generally does a pretty good job of letting them make mistakes. He knew Altaria had Earthquake in the Emerald debacle, for instance, and let them march in anyway. Besides, it's useful to have someone who knows the obscure evolution requirements or not to fight the MurderBaker in Hammerlocke City the first time you can visit.
Not having Lani really changes the vibe up though. Wonder if he'll show up on some now that he's back in Texas?
-
Lord, that Growlithe encounter in the second stream. Definitely one of those moments where they ignored the obvious strategy from the start.
-

Now that you mention it, I do faintly remember that Grant also played Sun/Moon separately as well. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now with Sword and Shield. The other games weren't new so it's not that big of a deal.
Oh yeah, the baker killed my whole team on the first try. But I think their team will be appropriately leveled. There might be a casualty or two if their Pokemon in front aren't good against fairies.
-
The rule against items in battle made the whole run way more interesting. Those last two streams got BLOODY.
-
That was extremely entertaining. If only they paid attention to Sap Sipper a bit earlier, 2 of their favorites could've been saved. Goodra was incredibly clutch at the end. And they put a fucking Assualt Vest on it! Charizard's best attack did like 1/6 of the damage it normally would because of the rain, typing, and Assault Vest. Plus Goodra has naturally absurd Special Defense. It's health barely moved at all lol.
Their levels were perfect to make the battle intense. And no healing was fun too. Though I would have found it fair to heal if the A.I. did it first.
-
They aparently didn't get enough views on the abridged versions, but no way I'm watching the full ones.
-
The abridged versions seemed like they focused entirely too much on things like Kirran and Grant goofing off instead of more important things.
Far as the deaths go, if you have a strategy that is working, you should really keep it going as long as it can.
-
Haven't started watching their plathrough yet, but I'm gonna go with the longer versions and it assuredly will be background noise, for the most part.
-
Buu Saga is dead.
-
Eh, not too surprising. They've been drifting away from DBZA for a while to pursue other projects, which is probably all for the best.
I don't really care that much for the Buu saga anyway.
-
Their wnding for Cell really felt like the natural conclusion to the story they were telling so not surprising. Plus Buu felt too whacky to make a real parody.
Did the simpsons had a natural ending point they didnt take or did they just mean it went too long?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
It was a fun ride.
-
Did the simpsons had a natural ending point they didnt take or did they just mean it went too long?
Behind the Laughter (last episode of Season 11) may have been a good spot to end it or maybe even just let the Simpsons Movie be the finale. But no, there never was a natural definitive point they could have ended on. Pretty sure they just meant that it went on too long.
Not to go off topic.
-
Wow, I was expecting a Buu Saga season regardless, cause even Toriyama and I think Kai tried to stop at Cell only to contine so why no, so this came out of nowhere.
But regardless of that I'm at peace with it. It's been fun, and I have no real regrets with this series. It's kind of perfect.
-
Thanks Nobodyman. It's exactly what I was looking for.
The moment Krilin redeem all his ownage point you're done. Anything else is just epilogue.
-
I really had my doubts they'd ever really continue when the talk of using the Shortz to move forward came out; not just because it would have been a lot more additional work and expense to recreate large sections of the Buu Saga but because I really wasn't sold on the notion that doing so would let them sidestep legal problems like the fans and even TFS seemed to think.
-
I don't think I can pick a favourite main series momentsince they are many greats (lots involving Vegeta quotes) but my Favorite movie joke is Yamcha showing up to instantly get killed by the Biomen. It's kind of easy but it was mighty effective.
-
Yeah, they were pretty clearly done after the year long build up to episode 60, and the year they spent trying to do Bojack, and the announcements that came after that. I'm surprised they didn't officially say "no Buu" then back in September but I guess maybe they still didn't totally want to let it go.
I dunno, I really haven't been amused by anything else they've worked on, not the Helsing or the FF7 or any of their lets plays outside of Pokemon. Dunno why.
Did the simpsons had a natural ending point they didnt take or did they just mean it went too long?
Holidays of Future Passed would have been perfect. That was in the middle of season 23, a few years after the theatrical movie.
The first time they did it, anyway.
-
I'm somewhat surprised they never redid any of their early stuff since some of it is super uneven in quality.
or any of their lets plays outside of Pokemon. Dunno why.
Yoshi's Island had some pretty good moments as did Assault of the Saiyans. The former saw them have numerous angry meltdowns and the latter had some great reactions when they find out what a ridiculous powerhouse character Yamcha can turn into with the right items. Too many of their Let's Plays anymore feel like they're plowing through the game with no real effort to do any of the goofy side material; Kakarot seems particularly bad for that since Lani's brought up things once or twice that sounds like it would get good reactions from him and Kaiser but they just don't do any of it.
-
Yoshi's Island had some pretty good moments
Yoshi's Island frustrated me to no end because they were obviously playing with a bad a controller or bad copy of the game.
-
My favourite gaming content from TFS was when Lanipator would play horror games,
and later add voiceovers of Vegeta forcing Krillin to play them.
I absolutely loved most of the commentary being made. -
There have been a number of pretty good LPs that they've done, but I think the last great one they really went all in with was Doom. Other stuff like Sekiro and Spider-Man have been tempered by the fact that some of the players had played ahead at home (leaving Scott to play primarily, and he's not particularly good at video games).
