Does anyone have the feeling like we still haven't really seen Jimbei? Sure, he got his title box and such, but I can't even really picture what he'd look like standing up and uninjured. We don't know of his abilities or anything either. I think his real debut will come hopefully after he's free and wreaking havoc across Impel Down with Luffy, Ace and whoever else joins the rescue party by then.
Chapter 528 "Jinbei, the Yakuza of the Sea" Discussion
-
-
We don't know what happened, who was sent to capture him, or how. So far all we know is that a Vice Admiral was sent to collect Hancock, and he was shown to be extremely powerful by killing a Calm Belt Sea King by himself. Likely they sent a Vice Admiral to collect Jinbei as well, and after some fighting Jinbei was "captured". Jinbei might have been captured by a single Vice Admiral – which would be somewhat fitting given his bounty, I suppose -- or he might have been captured by a good group of VA's, Captains, and Vice Captains. Either way, having someone of his calibur (at least VA level) would be useful, no? I mean if you are waging a war where every extra hand makes the difference, wouldn't having someone who can probably throw a house at you be a welcome addition??
I still don't understand why Sengoku would get all flustered and spend all this effort to get Jimbei when they could be focusing more on the war. Especially if Jimbei is only as strong as a vice admiral. What if the vice admiral sent to capture Jinbei was injured and unable to fight? Then they would only lose more fighting power.
It would be a welcome addition to add more power to the marine's arsenal, but not when you have to divert equally important resources in order to get that added power.

Sengoku only made one comment. His irritation was with the fact that he had one less high ranking fighter on his side. He's not really making a 'big deal' about it. Having Jinbei tortured or beaten in prison seems to be the normal procedure for anyone in that prison, so it isn't like they are doing anything out of the norm. If Jinbei "cools down" and decides to help out, then more power to the WG, even if he is a little weak from a beating.

Yeah; I am really excited to see him up and moving around. Hopefully that day will come much sooner than we expect.
Yeah but where is the plan? What is the strategy?
Kill Whitebeard. Plain and simple. Same as they did Roger. They Marines don't have the time to take ALL of their top tier guys and go sailing around the New World to find, fight, and capture Whitebeard. Baiting him to their ground on their time is the smartest way to do things; if you are going to do them at all. Takes Whitebeard out of his element and gives the Marines the advantage. And what do you propose they do about Jinbei? Leave him out there to rampage more? No. Capture and detain him so you don't have to worry about him. Put some pressure on him and maybe he will buckle and join forces with you. If not, oh well.

Simple. If they let jimbei run around he might have joined the WB pirates in this war. So they're risking to injure a vice admiral and take him to ID rather than fight him with a bunch of WB pirates.
There is also the possibility that an admiral was sent to take him to the MHQ. -

First Kizaru, now Jimbei? These character intro's keep getting more and more badass.
-
but i expect a complicated master plan that will blow my mind once revealed. The way the things are setup now is too cheap imo. That's just a feeling. I expect more from sengoku.

I'm guessing that this complicated master plan will emerge from the Shichibukai meeting. The war is gonna be too awesome
-
Darn. So that's the end of the CP9 cover story then?
Sigh… well, one can always hope they randomly pop in and out once more, but not too much...
-
I know they are supposed to be the enemies and everything, but I do wish that the World Government and the Marines weren't portrayed in such a bad light (well, most of them; Smoker is pimp). At times it seems that they are more cruel than pirates… I kind of hope that future pirate foes are as bad.
Poison-Poison fruit, eh? Anyone else see Luffy fighting his way down, freeing a ton of prisoners, joining up with a few, beating the big bads of Imperial Down, freeing Ace and Jimbei and maybe Hancock if she's caught only to get a massive face full of poison and having to be resuced himself? Because I could see that happening.

"At times?"
I've yet to see any pirate in this series do anything as heinous as the shit the Marines/World Government have pulled over the years.
-
I looked back a few spoiler chapter threads and I saw the thread on the chapter where Kuma first showed up at thriller bark. That had a HUGE amount of pages. You would think the first appearance of a character we have been waiting for hundreds of chapters would do the same =/. Jinbei deserves better.
-
Except that Kuma's appearance on Thriller Bark was one of the most unpredictable events of the manga, while we all knew that we'd see Jinbei on Impel Down sooner or later.

It's different. Nobody knew why he was there and technically we still don't aside from him talking about BB taking Croc's spot. They were whispering about some stuff for sure.
I will admit the talk of Jimbei got me hyped for a new badass shichibukai the likes of Crocodile or Mihawk BUT all this chivalrous talk about giving his life for this war and ppl running around saying Jimbei 4 nakama has jaded my hype which initially had no limit. If he does become a shichi I don't know how badass he can be w/o being some mix of Sanji's badass moments and Zoro's badass moments which aren't insanely grand in comparison to other badass characters like Aokiji for example. I don't know why anyone thinks what he said in this chap was cool or badass. Saying you'd give your life to stop a war seems a bit cliche' and it looks like that might be his shtick so to speak. Being some Ghandi policy type guy with the look of Aku & an Oni mask alog with the body of a biker lol
I dunno with all the past first introductions recently Jimbei will have to do more this next chapp or whenever he gets free. This is just my imo…...

Crocodile did trick a country into a civil war where a ton of people were killed, and then laughed about it. That's fairly bad.
-
Magellan is hilarious, love the character. He must be a freakin amazing fighter if he's the Warden of Impel Down. Then there's Jimbei, so fucking happy we get to see him, he looks amazing! In no way disappointed, the wait was freaking worth it. Cant wait to see what he can do too. Kinda surprised with his bounty revealed, though. so its:
Mihawk: More than likely highest
Doflamingo: 340 mil
Moria (YES!): 320 mil
Kuma: 296 mil
Jimbei: 250 mil
Crocodile (Former): 81 mil
Hancock: 80 mil
Blackbeard: 0Still wanting to see Shichibukai fight with WB, I wanna see Moria fight more and during the day. But this week is for Jimbei, hurray for his long awaited phyiscal introduction. I also like how he really seems like a pretty nice guy so far.
-

Well to be fair though, Croc wasn't a pirate anymore. In fact he was a man under the direct control of the WG…

Exactly why I intentionally left him out of my previous statement.
@Zik:

We must have different ideas of what "badass" entails, then.
-
Well to be fair though, Croc wasn't a pirate anymore. In fact he was a man under the direct control of the WG…
I thought it was clear that he wasn't being controlled by anyone, only using his title as a means to ends. Add in the fact that World Government didn't know of his activities and even had him arrested and stripped of his title when he was caught leaves fairly clean of the whole matter (other than not having the foresight to see what would happen if you gave a crafty, evil pirate government protection… really, how the hell did they not see what would happen with the Shichibukai?). At this point I'm kind of hoping that the other Yonkou (who are probably going to be enemies of the Strawhats) besides Shanks and Whitebeard are evil, soulless, baby eating monsters.
We must have different ideas of what "badass" entails, then.
Oh, Croc is very badass and my favorite villains so far. He had charisma, presence, style, attitude, and a badass fur coat. He's still a villain though and still had a bunch of people murdered and seem to generally enjoy causing it all. Crocodile is a badass evil villain.
-
Still, Crocodile had free reign to do whatever the hell he wanted under the World Government's banner of "Shichibukai," at least until they found out what exactly he was doing.
You honestly think a normal pirate would have been able to pull what he managed to?
-

Hmmm… this reminds me of someone. Just change Croc with Morgan.
An organization is made of his members, Morgan was a marine, Croc a Shichibukai, both under the WG ruling. The fact they acted on their own impulse doesn't justify the WG, they shouldn't have them enter their ranks in the first place.

Probably. This is Crocodile here, one of the craftiest people in the whole comic. Which being part of the Shichibukai made it easier for him, he could of (probably) achieved the same results without it.

I believe I mentioned the World Government having poor foresight.
I will also add that I don't dislike the WG being evil, just that I hope that there are also pirates just as bad if not worse. Because you know, pirates on the whole are bad.
-
We must have different ideas of what "badass" entails, then.
We must, like I said it was cliche and a stupid thing to say actually. A badass wouldn't say that, he'd just do it…. and yea there's a difference.
-

Kidd has left a trail of civilian bodies in his wake.
-
I'm curious about the Minotaur and whether or not Luffy stands any chance against the keeper of the fifth level, which holds criminals on the level of firefist ace.
I think that Jinbei can escape his bonds at any time, and that when Luffy arrives and is struggling against the minotaur, he will do just that.
-
Wow, Jinbei at last!!! I'm so happy to finally get to see him. The pictures don't do him justice though, he's covered in blood and looks so messy. Right after reading the chapter, I sat down and quickly drew a picture of Jinbei based on what we've seen:
!
I love Jinbei I think he's great. I can't wait to see more of him! I wonder what color his skin will be!
As for Magellan and Hannyabal, they are such morons. Great stuff! I bet Magellan is pretty badass when he's fighting.
and that minotaur seems stronger than I had given it credit for. Really cool guy(or whatever it is)
and Mr 3 was quick to offer his help to Luffy! Awesome!

"At times?"

You have pirates like Blackbeard destroying a country or Kidd supposedly massacring quite a bit of people. Conversely, it doesn't seem like the World Government likely uses something like the Buster Call often, which produces a similar effect, and likely done for more of a valid reason.
-
Blackbeard and friends fucked Drum up, but it's not like the place was wiped off the map. And Kidd kills people who piss him off, which isn't much different from the usual badness.
Neither of those examples really match up to, you know, genocide.
-
The World Government may seem like they do far more horrible things than pirates, but that's just because of their power and influence. I'm sure someone like Arlong wouldn't hesitate to wipe out a country if he had hundreds of battleships to command.
Essentially, both the top people of the World Government and the average Straw Hat pirate enemy are evil. It's just that the WG leaders have an advantage.
-
After reading the chapter and have no interest in reading the pages in this topic, let me guess? Is someone complaining about Jimbei having pride and not being a sadistic macho?
-
Very few people; I think I saw only one person complaining about that. Mostly it's been speculation that Jimbei is actually a spy for Sengoku.
-
What the…? It's over? What a disappointment, I wanted to see who trained the new CP9 generation. We didn't see CP9 interact with any of the residents actually. It's as if Oda grew tired of writing it and ended it abruptly. Even Wapol's story had more of a conclusion. :(
Well in a way I think there was little left that could be done. The current CP9 is essentially now being hunted by the WG that they used to work for (let alone by Spandam and Spandine), they still hate pirates and continue their "absolute justice" (though a bit more individualized and at least have a bit of humanity in them as seen with Calipha giving the girl the flower…and maybe the bowling bit) and we now have a mysterious "master" who could come into the picture. Aside from someone finding Very Good and putting him back together, there really wasn't anything left.
So essentially now we have at least 9 weeks of "Straw Hats with Animals"...not counting any color pages, weeks off or any usage of Vivi and their current ship. Too early to start drawing straws on the next mini-arc but at least it's coming.
-
What's with the title translation for this chapter? I haven't been able to find anything linking 侠 to the Yakuza, but then that probably would be the sort of slangly thing that'd be difficult to find in a dictionary. However, the definition for this kanji that I have been able to find gives "chivalry" as one of its meanings, which makes a lot of sense in light of Jenbei's talk of duty in this chapter. Oh, and one of the readings for this kanji is otoko, same as for "man", which almost certainly can't be a coincidence.
Of course you won't find it in a dictionary…
It's derivitive from the word 任侠, a form of respect and honor among the Yakuzas.
Instead of looking up dictionaries, try looking up film titles with 侠 in it. You'll have a much better luck. Not to mention the obvious Yakuza theme Jinbei has.
He even mentions "Jingi" in his speech this chapter, another word for honor commonly used among the Yakuza.Off topic, but because of the "Merman Yakuza" connection, some people are starting to make Seto no Hanayome jokes with Jinbei.
-
Great chapter
I like Magellan and his poison powers -
Thanks for the clean chapter! Magellan is so funny, especially the way he breathes out the poison and along with Hannyabal, too. Jinbei's face looks more like an Oni than a whale shark and I can barely see his Sun Tattoo on his chest (hidden behind those chains). ^ ^ Also, he is seen to be wearing a Jinbei, a japanese traditional clothing underneath his black coat.
-
It's funniest to think that the strongest (highest bounty) members of the Schibukai were basically shown from strongest to weakest for the most part.
-
umm..
why doesn't luffy just punch his way through the ground and to ace?
-
umm..
why doesn't luffy just punch his way through the ground and to ace?
Hancock requested subtlety. You think that might be a bit too obvious?
ETA: Also, that would likely cause everyone to come running. It's not likely that even Luffy could handle all of the guards and wardens at Impel Down by himself. Besides, I think the plan is for him and Ace to escape on one of the ships and that's not bloody likely to happen if all eyes are on them when they try to make their getaway.
-
Probably Jinbei doesn't want this war, because he owns his life to WhiteBeard.
-
umm..
why doesn't luffy just punch his way through the ground and to ace?
Supposedd to be a stealth mission for started, though thats blown all to hell at this point…. But...
For one, there's no telling how thick the floors are or what meterial they're made of. Just because Luffy can break giant rocks and brick walls doesn't mean he can sucessfully bust up 40 feet of solid stone.
Also, Luffy doesn't know the layout of the place, and just smashing through the floor could send him out into the water and seakings, or a pit of fire, or a room of spikes... or kill Ace. After all, one man's floor is another man's ceiling. Be a shame to collapse 10 tons of rock on Ace's seastone shackled head.

Yeah I'm suprised too… Even if bounties didn't reflect strenght i thought he would have an higher bounty than Don and Moria.

Why are some people making out that the world government are wrong in torturing the prisoners. They are not in there cause they’ve been good there in there cause there scum of the earth. If they can’t take the time they shouldn’t do the crime.
-
Anyone think that Garp went to go get Jimbei just like Momonga went to go get Hancock, then when he refused to help Garp beat the shit out of him?
-
Jimbei seems like a shogun in his look
-
But there was a conclusion. Your own personal desire to see the CP# trainer aside, the ex-CP9 left Enies Lobby in fear of Spandam blaming things on them, got themselves all healed up, defeated a pirate crew to save the town, stole their ship since they had to leave and headed out to find their master and train or seek answers. They spectate and watch the training when they arrive only to find Marines chasing them down at the orders of Spandam. They take out the Marines and tell Spandam to STFU and that they will return someday (for revenge). Spandam calls in his dad crying and they begin to plot out the assassination of their former assassins. The ex-CP9 sail off into the distance leaving the foreshadow of their return for revenge and "justice" against the WG. We can presume they are now pirates, as they fought Marines and were "wanted" by Spandam. It's like a sweet irony that these "Absolute Justice" freaks are now criminals in their own right and will likely becoming the "Pirates of Justice" or something. The ex-CP9!! Pirates!! What more would we need for a cover story…?
I know that the events we've seen in the last batch of volumes came to a conclusion. But I simply can't shake the feeling of that the CP9 adventures as a whole came to an abrupt end. It doesn't have the "everything that was adressed was taken care of" flair as all the other title page stories had. It just ends out of nowhere as "I am Legend" did. But ok, perhaps the side story will backfire pretty quick in the mains story so Oda had to end it right here right now.
-
@kuma:
Why are some people making out that the world government are wrong in torturing the prisoners?
… are you serious? You don't see anything wrong with feeding prisoners to ravenous beasts? Boiling them in oil/water? Clubbing them nearly to death on a daily basis? Forcing them to run through needle-sharp forests?
The World Government is supposed to be the protectors of humanity from criminals, not torturous, cruel, inhumane monsters. If they wanted them to die, they should just execute them humanely and be done with it. Cruelty just breeds more cruelty.
Besides, the World Government has been shown time and time again to be full of corrupt officials that don't mind killing/torturing innocents in order to achieve their ends; how are they any different than the criminals that they keep in prison?
-
No like I said they are not in there cause they been good. They been put in there cause they been up to no good. If they want to behave like Uncivilized people they should be treated like one. The world government are not obliged to treat them well.
-
@kuma:

They shouldn't torture them because it simply is not the right thing to do. Even if all the prisoners would be the scum on earth, the only thing you achieve by torturing them is to fall down on the same pathetic level and become scum yourself.
The only differences here lie on a juristic field where the prisoners actions are illegal (that's why they are considered criminals) while the jailers actions are legal. But from a philosophic respectively moral perspective torture is a crime. That you are licensed to use torture doesn't change the fact that it simply is a wrong thing to do.

Although we have also seen couple of bulgori take out a seaking and then seen luffy taking them out like they were bugs on his windshield…
So yes I think Momonga isnt a fodder, but also, him killing a Seaking doesnt mean he is "extremly powerful"The comparison of those two depends on several factors actually. For one the the seakings size. Was the one the Blugory finished off as big and as tough as the one Momonga took care off. For all we know it was nearly the size of a battleship and what's more, it was tough enough to not be harmed by battleship cannons (that's what they said). In comparison to that we neither know the size nor the toughness of the seaking taken care of by the Blugory.
But even then let's imagine they'd be the same. The difference here lies that it was a swarm of Blugory taking down a seaking. Perhaps one by itself could only scratch it a bit but not cause serious harm. So it in fact is quite a difference here.
