Best episode of the fucking season. So many questions answered, even some that we already knew the answer to. Miles and Hurley are awesome together.
LOST Season 5 *spoilers abound*

Great episode. Miles is an awesome character, but I was already spoiled that Dr. Chang was his father. Kinda wish I could've been surprised by it. Now I REALLY want to know what lies in the shadow of the statue. Hurley needs to brush up on his Star Wars history though. Luke got his hand cut off before Darth Vader told him he was his father. Epic idea of him for writing the screenplay for Empire Strikes Back though.

I'm VERY MAD D:<

BE: Will we ever find out why Libby was in the mental institution and if she knew Hurley pre-island?
CC: No, we feel like we resolved Libby’s fate, and for the fans that are still obsessing about Libby, maybe at some point someone will write sort of a “Star Wars”-like novel about the story of Libby, but we don’t consider that to be a major story thread for us.
Why make her then >_>
They've been feeding us crap about learning her "true past" and now we get nothing.
-
I somehow forgot to watch episodes 12 and 13 :silly:. Well, it was awesome to watch these two episodes in a row.
I suppose they simply don't have time for Libby because of Lost's tight schedule. After all there ain't that many episodes left anymore . But I feel disappointed too if it's true. Not everything needs to be covered. I'm fine if some things are left unexplained. As something fans can debate about even long after show is over.
But Libby's backstory was something I have been really looking forward to since season 2. You know, since the big "holy shit!" moment at the end of the Hurley episode. It could have been an interesting and entertaining story. I guess it's just not an enough important story.

I can't help but wonder if, maybe, because of the writers strike last year and them having to cut out about three episodes, that's why they couldn't get to Libby. Oh well.
-
I'm a bit bummed about the whole Libby thing, too. It's such a shame that we'll probably never find out more about her character. But, maybe if we find out some other characters' backstories and they're done well, it'll make up for this.
-
Oh man, it totally sucked there was no Lost this week.
Is it true there is only like two episodes left? REALLY? Like this series was finally getting on track and now it's ending…for fucks sake...
-
Including this week's episode. There are 4 more episodes in this season.
-
Oh that's alright then!
When I was told there was two…I was like Jesus...
-
"The Variable" is going to be the 100th episode of Lost.
Still doesn't seem like there's that many episodes to me. Too bad the next season is the last.
-
I'm glad.
I'm a huge fan, don't get me wrong. But I liked what Lost was in the first 1 or 2 series. Series 3 onwards was exciting and shocking and stuff but I miss the psychological side.
-
Another good jaw-dropping episode. It was well worth the week-long delay, too. A huge shocker revealing that Widmore is Faraday's father, and how Faraday plans to nuke the island to change the past.
-
Faraday as Whitemore's son was a given in my book but still pretty awesome. I love the way the ended the episode, pretty intense stuff right there. Sawyer is screwed!
-
I too had been entertaining the idea that Widmore was Farraday's father, but still good to see confirmation. Sucks for Daniel though, I really didn't think he'd die in this episode. Also looking forward to seeing if they really can change the future. Wouldn't that be something. Of course it could take away a lot of good things too (would Jin and Sun's daughter be born?)
-
Inevitability I don't think they can do anything to change the future, especially with Sun and Locke still in the future being a factor. We still have "The Desmond Factor" and Dr. Chang (?) to deal with so we'll see how everything works out. In the end though, whatever decision Jack makes will probably be the right one. Hopefully it's a smart decision though.
-
can anyone answer me this?
They shoot ben three fucking times, and yet he lives.
They shoot Faraday once and he dies.C'MON!!! Faraday was awesome.
Now that he's gone, Desmond will be the sole reason I tune into watch every wed.
Btw I got a feeling Daniel may not have died, but I could just be in denial over his death….
-
Great episode, unfortunatly nothing new in terms of answers about the island.
I was hoping Faraday would explain everything he knew about the island.@The:

Well, I won't believe someone is dead untill he is burried 6 feet under the ground. There is so much that can happen on the island - healing powers, resurrection powers, etc…
-
They shoot Faraday once and he dies.
They said he died? I mean…it's Lost...
-
They said he died? I mean…it's Lost...
I'm fairly sure that he died. I mean, look at his eyes after he was shot. Completely lifeless.
-
I kind of had the feeling Farraday would die this episode (flashback episode curse), and I think it's final because I think his role in the story is more or less fulfilled. His role that requires him to be alive that is.
Every time Widmore was in that episode I was just waiting for him to mention that he was Farraday's father, glad they got that in there.
-
What an excellent episode.
Faraday is now the most pitiful character in the series. His life consisted of being raised by his mother only to eventually time-travel to the island and being killed by…his mother.
What made it sadder is how Daniel was even starting to accept the naive idea of change the future, but he was just following Elloise's script all the time, since his birth till that crucial moment. Whatever happened, happened indeed. Great stuff. They said he died? I mean…it's Lost...
I sure hope he is dead. If they pull a Pell on us this episode (and Daniel) would be a lot less memorable.
-
Well…if the plan ends up going through (eventually) then he wouldn't die because the future would change and nobody would die.

The way i see it, i think his death is supposed to prove that everything we're seeing always happened, and the future couldn't be changed after all.
Even all the actions they did so far didn't change anything. For instance, we know there was always an incident, but somehow people like Charlotte escaped - and here we see Faraday warning her. I bet adult Miles will be the one to help his family escape safely. -
… episode ends "No!." ".. oh my fucking god"
This was my reaction. This episode was... shit man, I need time to ingest this. I dunno how to react. Eloise is the new biggest bitch on the show.. she actually surpassed Kate.
I don't know what's scarier, that she reminds me of my own mother with her whole "destiny" bullshit, or that she went through with it. -

He already proved that he could change the future during the episode where he kept Charlie from dying. Desmond's story is clearly not yet over, I don't know what he'll do, but I feel pretty damn certain that he will have a significant impact in changing the timeline in some way or another.
-
Daniel is one of my favourite characters but I'm not sad he's most probably dead. Just because this episode was really touching. His talk with Charlotte and the ending "you always knew". Also, I somehow actually liked Eloise and Charles in this episode, which I find surprising.
Sawyer and Juliet don't look too steady though :(
I blame Kate for that. Godammit Kate. -
Well, Dan's dead alright: http://www.tvguide.com/News/Lost-Daniel-Faraday-1005641.aspx
I'm pulling for Locke dead!
-

You have a good point there, as Eloise said to Penelope, "i used to know what'd happen". I think he can really change things that didn't happen yet (or at least delay it), but not time travel to the past stopping something major like the incident - and consequently the airplane crashing, that would open a worm can of paradoxes.
-
I'm still hoping Desmond is the one who can change time.
-
God damned that was an awesome episode! I was on the edge of the seat throughout the whole 45 minutes. Poor Daniel. It seems like he is dead for good . Yeah, probably better that way too but it's still sad to see him go.
-
I have a question to you people that claim you "know" stuff before it happens ("Widmore was Daniel's dad, soooo obvious lulz" meanwhile up until he said old friend I had no clue)
IS Charlie.. Charlie? Because that would be sad/nice/awesome all at once. Sad because Desmond can't change the past, and the last episode will be the first episode of lost, and awesome because he's no longer dead.

Oh My God.
A part of me just died reading that. But hey maybe he'll pull a Locke and be back alive in 2007.
Or I am I hoping for too much? -
I think there's a chance we'll see Faraday in flashbacks. For instance, how did he find out his mother was an Other?
-
^
Uh…because they saw her (in the 1950s) and he even said so in the episode.
-
How did Daniel know all that stuff about the "future" of the Swan and precisely when it would have it's accident. He looked like he was a pretty good mess when he left for the island in the 2004s, so I doubt he managed to get his hands on that info while he was with Keemy's mercs. He obviously shouldn't have access to that info BEFORE IT HAPPENED in the 1970s either.
Unless there's some serious Xanatos shit going on here and Whidmore has all the info he could want from the future in his present. ( see the episode of Gargoyles "VOWS" and see how Xanatos makes himself rich thru time travel)
-
Such a good episode!
They like reinvented how I see time travel. And Desmond caused it all, we finally know there WAS reason behind the hatch.
-
Remember, it's likely Daniel questioned everyone he could back in Season Four about what had happened.
-
But he was Coocoo for CocoaPuffs till he got to the Island! And even then, it was evident since we first saw him, he still wasn't all right "up there"
I'm hearing the theory that the Journal has key info from the future and that's why he treats it as a tome of info. Sounds plausible if they can work it in properly. I'd be very upset if they don't explain this, cuz it just isn't LOST's style to leave huge plot holes like that.
-
I've got to say, any scene with Miles and Hurley is the best. They're the ultimate badass team.

Im gonna guess his mom stole it from him and gave it to him in the "present"
-
Damn, that episode was awesome! And I can't believe next week is the season finale already. It's gonna be epic!
-
Yeah, there's so much going on. Every finale has a sense of chaos about it, and this one won't be any different. I'm sure that it wont' seem as crammed together as the one for season 4 with so much crap going on. But, with an H-Bomb, shit's bound to go down.
And a word to the wise: Don't fuck with John Locke!
-
I'm really stoked to see what, if anything, is going to happen with Jacob. God, he really is the one I'm most curious about. And why does Locke want to kill him? Maybe because, since he's the leader, he's brought so much pain and misery.
-
Here's my two possible guesses on who Jacob is (if it isn't someone new):
#1:Walt
#2:Locke -
My guess is that there simply is no "Jacob".
-
^
Well (minor speculative spoilers. but just in case 3 tags)
! >! >! Supposedly Jacob will have been the reason why a lot of the 815ers were on the island and we will see him monitoring the different characters throughout there lives. I still thought it was Chrisitian when I read that, but then I changed my mind when Locke said he wanted to kill Jacob
Regardless, I am very happy that I will be able to watch it as it airs. 2 hours of Lost is always good and if it's anything like the other season finales, it will be amazing (to me, besides the pilot, all of the finales are the best episodes. Oh, and any Locke S1)
-
If they do go ahead and blow up the place the end of this season next week, I hope they show flashforwards of their lives without being on the Island. I'd love to see their former cast members come back for a bit of special appearances. Also, what happened to the Rose and Bernard? Are we assuming they died in the beach bombard of flaming arrows?
-

If everything gets fixed at the end of this season, what's gonna happen next season? Well, I'm real anxious to find out what happens at any rate. And yeah, that was weird about Rose and Bernard. It's like they just vanished off the face of the show.
-
Ben's head asploded.
-
I tend to think they're the adam and eve skeletons from the caves.
Also I'm sure whatever Jack does will link into whatever John's doing. I think by the end of the season, the time lines will meet and Jack's group will reuinite with John's.
