@theinvisibleworm:
Blackbeard would lose to Whitebeard in a fight. It will be the admirals confronting Whitebeard.
Blackbeard certainly aims to take the top spot in the world of piracy, like Luffy, and he is ahead of Luffy, but he's not there at this very moment.
That's the thing though, why now all the sudden basically declare war against Whitebeard the World's Strongest? The 3 Admirals have been there for quite some time so it's not them that tip the scales in favor of the World Government. The one man that has given the Marines the gall to publicly execute one of Whitebeard's commanders, and essentially start a great war is none other than Blackbeard himself. It's perfectly plausible to think Blackbeard is ready for the top. Why do you think Shanks was so adamant about making Whitebeard call back Ace before the duel at Banaro Island?
Looking at the simple fact, Blackbeard went about this in the most tactical method possible, he is a very strong fighter, so he killed another very strong fighter to obtain a very powerful fruit. After obtaining this fruit he set out and assembled a very powerful crew and began looking for a means to make a name for himself, he determined that capturing a crew with a 100 Million Beli captain and some other bountied crewmembers would get him sufficient fame. He discovers the Strawhats in Jaya, and sees them as ambitious for their low bounties, then discovers that they have higher bounties and probably finds out that Luffy beat a Shichibukai. Since he'd seen Luffy and his crew he was able to estimate that he and his crew were much stronger, so Luffy's a perfect option to get him into the Shichibukai.
Actually was only searching for a pirate with a 100 million bounty or more. Luffy just happened to be one nearest to him at that moment. Even before he learned of Luffy's new bounty(at that time) he already respected Luffy aas a fellow dreamer, it's not like he saw him from the very beginning as a target. Also, no one knows that Luffy defeated Crocodile remember; all the credit was given to Smoker for that. Although now Blackbeard probably knows that Crocodile's defeat was because of Luffy it doesn't really matter considering he's already a Shichibukai now.
Even with his devil fruit he clearly wasn't looking for a confrontation with Whitebeard, or even Ace.
Certainly he was stronger than Ace, but so is Whitebeard, and by quite some margin. Blackbeard has to handle any and all damage he takes, like Zoro does, and he's good at it, but Whitebeard is the strongest man in the world and can deal enough to KO even Blackbeard. If Blackbeard could singlehandedly defeat Whitebeard, he'd do so, and he wouldn't need or want to be a Shichibukai because he'd be so incredibly powerful that absolutely no one could even pose a serious threat to him.
Just because Blackbeard obtained the Yami Yami Fruit doesn't mean he has to all the sudden fight everyone he runs into. Besides, one needs to surround oneself with strong crewmembers to become a legitimate threat as a pirate. I mean that's like asking why Whitebeard has a crew even though he's the strongest man in the world(for now)? It's just what pirates do and Blackbeard is doing the same. No one is saying it'd be an easy win for Blackbeard, but to think he doesn't stand a chance is just silly. Otherwise Shanks wouldn't have warned Whitebeard about Blackbeard finally making his move, and eventuall aiming for his position.
When Whitebeard confronts the world government it will be the Admirals that greet him and try to defeat him while his first division commander will try to use the diversion to rescue Ace. Blackbeard MIGHT be there to stop that, though. While I don't think that even all three admirals could defeat Whitebeard, I don't think that he could beat all three of them at once either, creating a stalemate, so either Ace gets rescued or Whitebeard eventually withdraws without him.

This post explains what I personally think will happen regarding the whole "Ace's execution" situation. Obviously it's different form yours, and we'll just see what happens right?
Either way, the entire Naval Armada will be focused on Whitebeard, allowing Dragon to make calculated strikes against the world government, causing a great commotion, and casting doubt onto the significance of affiliation with the world government. He may even have Ace rescued.
We'll see, it's going to be damn interesting that's for sure.
I just wonder what Dragon will do to take advantage of how busy the World Government and Marine Headquarters will be in dealing with Whitebeard and the inevitable chaos that will happen in Saobady Isle.
Like you said though, it'll be interesting to say the least.
@Admiral:
If you simply think about the fact that Blackbeard has an evil version of Luffy's personality (as shown in Mock Town) and he shares the name of Oda's favourite pirate, it's safe to say that Blackbeard will become a massive threat in the future. One of the best (and most foreshadowed) ways of doing this would be to kill/defeat Whitebeard. He made it clear that he had a good plan, and if he lost to Whitebeard it would totally defeat the massive buildup we've been getting all this time.
Exactly, I mean why have all of this build-up just to have Blackbeard fizzle out at the climatic moment? It's like when Ace vs Blackbeard first started. People were actually thinking Ace would win even though it'd defeat the purpose of everything that was built up until their fight.
Considering the current arc, I know that somehow the Supernovas, Rayleigh, the Tenyributo and Garp need to get involved. Possibly they will send an Admiral after someone hits a Tenyributo, and Rayleigh will show what he can do against him…? With an Admiral taken away from the headquarters the government would be weaker still.
Well I think it'd just even out the scales again since they have Blackbeard making up for whatever Admiral gets sent down to deal with the situation in Saobady Isle. Remember though that there's also that axe-guy bounty hunter(which is just speculation on my part in thinking he'll get involved as well) so there's other factions that will get caught in the crossfire of it all.

It doesn't make sense to, at fifty percent story completion, make the primary antagonist more powerful than the entire navy and the entire pirate world by himself, which is what Blackbeard successfully killing Whitebeard where the Navy failed would mean. It would illegitimize every upcoming villain until we hit blackbeard.
Not really, I mean I'm sure if Ener was in the blue seas he'd be a very powerful influence. As Oda stated, he wouldn't rule the Blue Seas but surely Ener wouldn't be some pushover. Same with guys like Crocodile, Lucci and Moria. They're all powerhouse of the One Piece world, just because they were beaten doesn't mean all the sudden that they're scrubs.
It would mean that Blackbeard is strong enough to take on all three Admirals, Sengoku, and the old geezers (who I assume are rather powerful) by himself and that absolutely no pirate in the entire world could touch him. He would essentially be the pirate king here and now, and it's not going to go down that way.
Beating up Whitebeard all the sudden make him untouchable and invincible. It's not like everyone will bow down to him, and just go along. Like Blackbeard said to Ace before their fight: "The era of Whitebeard is over," and unfortunately that might mean getting taken out by a traitor. Also, Pirate King is whoever makes it to Raftel, not who beats who in a fight.
It's also too dark. I mean first Ace gets captured, Luffy assumes he'll take care of himself, then he's sentenced to death (with Luffy none the wiser), then Whitebeard comes to rescue his nakama and is brutally assassinated instead? Then after the failed rescue attempt, Ace is executed? Ace's promise is never fulfilled, despite the obvious build up that was put into place for that as well. It would contradict every theme the story has presented us so far and it would force Luffy into an impossible situation where he wants to kick Blackbeard's ass, a man who absurdly is stronger than anyone else in the world.
I personally think Ace will end up getting saved even if Whitebeard ends up being taken out. Like you said, he still has his promise to Luffy to fulfill about meeting at the top(metaphorically of course). I personally don't think Luffy would hate Blackbeard though even if Ace were killed though. This isn't like with Vivi who was basically thrusted into taking on Crocodile to save her kingdom. It's the path Ace decided to follow in his life as a pirate with no regrets, and who is Luffy to question that.
