RE: Oda's INSPIRATION for One Piece
@Owner:
What's really great about the shirt is that Paulie's shirt in the anime is the same shade of yellow and has a white bulls-eye, which makes it practically the inverse of the model's shirt. Franky is still Popeye to me (note to self: go buy Hulk hands to modify to Franky hands over spring break).
And – correct me if I'm wrong -- POPEYE WAS A FUCKING SAILOR MAN I think we hit the jackpot.

RE: Chapter 577 "The Incident Continues to Escalate"
Hey y'all, long time to see
I know there's a shitty "general Blackbeard thread" but I have always preferred smaller centralized discussions about interesting topics, so here goes.
Do you suppose that Blackbeard managed to steal the Devil Fruit of Whitebeard because – while in that "black blanket" thing -- Whitebeard's Devil Fruit "spirit" couldn't escape, and got sucked into Blackbeard?
I know it says that he can have 2 at once because of his "unique body" but that doesn't explain how he obtained it in the first place. I think it's a solid theory, what about you?

RE: The War With Whitebeard
I love how every time we're in the middle of an arc, no matter what it is or how awesome, a bunch of retards bitch about how it's boring and dragging on and complaining about every little thing.
This is the most kickass arc of the whole series easily. I love how Oda is handling the confrontation, showing how the Marines (who claim to be about "Justice") are the ones who are lying, sneaky, and cowardly, whereas Whitebeard (whose a pirate) is constantly being honorable, telling his men they are free to leave him, and fighting for the honour of his crew to save Ace.
I have faith in Oda and his ability to knock this shit out of the park once again. Epic, epic, epic. Or rather…
SSSSSUUUUUUUUPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAA~~~~~~~!!!!!!!

RE: The War With Whitebeard
Yep, Blackbeard got caught by surprise. His power is designed to absorb punishment as well as power… it's no surprise he got poisoned. He also got burned by Ace, but he won that. It's just bad luck that Magellan's power happened to be poison. And good luck that he had Shiryuu on his side.

RE: The War With Whitebeard
I think we need to give Magellan proper respect – there is a reason he is the top power in the world's greatest prison. The reason why they didn't stop to fight him ultimately boils down to the small risk of getting poisoned, no doubt about it.
Normally in a fight you take turns doing damage and finding weak points... But with Magellan, one tiny mistake and you are doomed to hell. And THAT is scary shit when he's rampaging. What an awesome character.
As for Blackbeard and his crew getting almost killed, it's clearly because they have a true "fatalistic" attitude. And, just as they believed, fate spared them! But I think it's important to pay attention to the parallel between Luffy and Blackbeard. Both of them went into Impel Down with no plan, and both of them got poisoned by Magellan... Both of them got saved by a stranger (or rather, by "fate"). Oda has always tried to show how Blackbeard is the same as Luffy (except evil), and I am now shitting my pants thinking about it.

RE: The War With Whitebeard
Wind down??? Are you high?! I feel like smashing my balls just hearing that lunacy.
This is the fucking pinnacle of the whole series thus far! To put it into metaphor, there is 30 tons of golden shit that is going to hit the fan next chapter. This is the event that he foreshadowed way back when Blackbeard fought Ace, and you think it's "about to wind down"?
Anyway…
I don't think he'll take an admiral out, especially Akainu, who I see having a bigger role in the NW (and I predict a fight with Dragon). Aokiji obviously wont die. If anyone does, it'd be Kizaru (as I don't see much background or controversy around him) however I don't think he'll die either.
Akainu is obviously a super badass, but he was the one who deceived Squad, and I think Whitebeard will want revenge on him. Plus he doesn't seem to have as much… "personality" as the other two? I would be just as happy if he survived and kept kicking ass, but at this point he seems more disposable to me...
However, now when I think about it, perhaps Whitebeard will actually manage to defeat Sengoku... Just look at how Whitebeard and Sengoku are constantly commenting on each other as if they're equals -- as if they are the 2 main powers in the war. Sengoku and the Marines knew what would happen if they tried to execute Ace, and yet they still did it; this means that Sengoku wants a final showdown with Whitebeard. Without Whitebeard the New World will be completely destabilized, but without Sengoku the same thing will happen to the Marines.
I definitely DON'T think that Garp will die, since he is just too damn loveable as a character -- He needs to be alive for when Luffy becomes the Pirate King. However, maybe after Sengoku dies the Marines will be changed by their new leader (whoever that would be), and this would cause Garp to "quit" and became neutral. Maybe this whole ordeal will cause him to retire, or maybe his actions here will cause him to be kicked out of the Marines altogether.
And Whitebeard had better not shed a single tear when he dies. He's WHITEBEARD, he needs to die like the manliest motherfucker since Gold Roger. I fully think that when Blackbeard kills Whitebeard he will simply be laughing his ass off like a depraved maniac, as the whole fucking WORLD shits their pants seeing his true power. Even if they're both next to death, they're going to be goddamn proud and strong.
Man, you guys need to realize how epic Blackbeard is going to be after this madness. The whole world will be changed forever when they see it.

RE: The War With Whitebeard
I predict that Whitebeard will take out at least one Admiral in this upcoming rage.
Why? Because he's the world's strongest man; because he's pissed; because they will be the only match for him; because there needs to be an empty spot for Coby to become an Admiral; because the Marines need to suffer at least one major loss in their forces (My guess? Aikinu).
Whitebeard will actually be winning, but thanks to Blackbeard's arrival he will BARELY fail to rescue Ace, and be killed.

RE: The War With Whitebeard
moorkopf, I think that ignoring Blackbeard screws your whole point. I think it's obvious that Blackbeard will be the most important factor in this war, and will become the successor to Whitebeard (just look at their names and the warning of Shanks, duh). Add to this the "D" in his name, his mirror-matchup style to Luffy, and the revenge Luffy would want on Blackbeard for what he did to Ace… and you have the perfect main villain. And this is the perfect opportunity for him to show his stuff.

RE: The War With Whitebeard
I still believe what I originally did: Whitebeard and crew will ALMOST save Ace, and possibly even take out an Admiral or some Shichibukai, but Blackbeard will then step into the spotlight and kill Whitebeard in front of everyone, meaning huge losses on both sides. Blackbeard will be injured in the process, however.
I guess that Ace will be freed thanks to Whitebeard, but will sacrifice himself for Whitebeard's sake, being almost killed in the process… but Whitebeard won't allow it.
I think Dragon will interrupt at the climax of this, and make his move to cripple the world government. Thus, both sides will be weakened. Perhaps he will whisk Luffy and Ace to safety...
Obviously I don't know, but my guess about WB dying at the hands of BB is the one thing I would bet money on.
