Personally, I liked Inner Sakura more back then for the fact that it seemed more like Kishi was having more fun and not trying to make everything serious like he is now.
It was stupid and the entire fight was stupid, Kishi's fun notwithstanding. Just like how Choji's fight in Sasuke Retrieval was incredibly stupid.

By the way, be quiet Gliblord. Choji vs Jirobo kicked ass. Before that I didn't care about Choji but damn that fight was good. But no butterflies are stupid according to you. Well ok I don't think butterfly when I think cool, but that fight was a total Crowning Moment of Awesome, Heartwarming and Tearjerker. Well maybe not the latter since he lived, but it was still very emotional and inspiring.
But I probably shouldn't take what you say seriously since you think Shippuden is underrated. Shippuden is not underrated. It's pretty bad.

Anyways Choji surviving didn't irk me that much. Authors always do that to increase the tension. Tsaunde worked on him and she the verse best doctor. Just like Luffy was going to die if he took one more shot from vi, but a great verse doctor Law saves him. Goku going Kaiken was surpose to kill him. Gon is practically surpose to be dead now, but we all know that won't happen. If Choji dies now it won't be stupid because Tsaunde is there to work on him. Also i don't know wat you guys opinion on Choji fight in Sasuke retrieval arc is, but IMO Choji kicked ass. Are you kidding me. Difference is those were main characters and them dieing there would not have been a satisfying conclusion to their story. Choji is not a main character, and dieing after that fight would have been a good conclusion to his character

Then you don't need to include that dying element, like at all. It doesn't add anything to the tension or drama when he is not gonna die for real, it's more like the opposite afterwards. Having him sustaining huge body damage would be enough.
Goku survived Kaioken and it DID hurt him heavily. Luffy did not do a "forbidden dangerous technique" and was then supposed to die but only just got heavy injuries, thus it doesn't count either and is actually something completely different.

According to the script, Chouji goes butterfly mode because of the power of emotions. Question is, why did Asuma's death or the battle for Konoha not trigger this, where he was way more emotionally stressed than when only battling his dead teacher?
Vi said he would die. Choji and Neji thought they would die because nobody was their and fell unconscious. If you get shot and your bleeding out. You would be thinking i going to die, but you wake up tomorrow in a hospital bed. Yes it does bring tension to the drama. Shonen characters get geaten to a pulp all the time. If Vi didn't say Luffy could die people would take it has just another powerboost for Luffy. King Kai was saying no to Goku because he will die going Kaiken more times. Choji wasn't that powerful back then through. Side characters train offscreen. Naruto trains offscreen too, but is the only one who gets onscreen training.

I'm not making these rules. It would be absolutely retarded to kill off a main character without any satisfying conclusion to their story. It'd be stupid to do that to a side character as well. What you don't seem to understand is that the situations are only similar on the surface and that context is extremely important. If you wanted to put a moment from One Piece, you should have used Pell and his not dying, except I don't know of anyone here who would claim that wasn't one of Oda's worst moments. If a character is on track to getting a satisfying, meaningful death and then stays alive and doesn't even do anything important later on, its bad writing.

I agree, but at least we got something on the side characters. If the ongoing plot means going back to Sasuke again, I'll take this one, please. The chapter, by itself, wasn't really bad, but to be honest it pales in comparison to the previous time Choji goes butterfly. Maybe it's nostalgia, but…this time just isn't giving me the same punch. I'm not sure if all this will be enough to justify getting Choji out of a nice sending-off scene earlier, but at least he's doing something. Oh, but Kishi better give a damn good reason why Choji was able to go butterfly without any pill, without it everything just don't make sense.
I'll probably give this one...wait, can someone post the color ranking again? I only remember Gold is highest and White lowest, but forgot the inbetween. Probably Green or Orange, although I'm not sure where that's placed.
Oh, and with this as Team 10's final fight (it is, right?) that means out of the three members, Ino is the only one without specific character development scene. I'm sure the fact that she's a woman is just purely coincidental. Oh wait, she does have a bit about her back then, in which...basically boils down to her fighting another girl over a guy. Butterfly choji was awesome and incredibly symbolic. You know, the whole lowly worm becoming something amazing after enduring a trial? Plus theres the whole "butterflys only live for a day" thing, and in japanese culture they're tied heavily into death. It was great imagery and a great message.

Him getting all that symbolic imagery and flashbacks, sacrificing and getting an all around great death, (and in the anime he got to sing the end credits) was all undermined by him somehow surviving the SUICIDE pill.
Seems like Choji next logical move to learn this. Choji pop pills before just to make his limbs grow. Against Sai he used part of his body big. Against Kakazu he made his whole body grow. Those things before he needed pills. We never see Choza getting pills.
This had better damn well be aimed at Kishimoto.

Mediocre. Choji's dad coming from nowhere. Shikamaru bringing up Asuma going to kill his kid. Earrings plot point coming from nowhere. But the overall message was good; too bad the powerup is a reminder of a major Kishi screw up
