Thanks for the chapter
Though, "Ambush" is not how I'd translate the title. "Frontal Assault" or "Confrontation" would be more like it

Dot not use to make scanlations please.
Although, I'm still not exactly sure what's going on with the feet, hoses, chains, and thunderstorm (sounds like a bad metal S&M video). I suppose we'll have to wait for a hq raw or a trans to figure that out, or does someone have a better idea what they're trying to do?
Nami creates rain, which is frozen around Odz's legs when they turn on the freezer. Then, Sanji and Zoro help to wrap Odz up in a giant chain, erecting his body and preventing him from bending his knees and spine to help absorb Luffy's attack.
Then, with Odz immobile and unable to dodge/cushion the blow/block/etc., Luffy unleashes a Gear 3rd Bazooka on Odz's face.
Basically, Odz had two high-speed blimps crash into his face while being chained up like a prison captive.
Thanks for the HQ doflamingo!
Thanks cyringohn for the clarification. I noticed the water freezing but had missed that they turned on the freezer. Now I'm embarrassed for having wondered for a second or two if Aokiji had shown up.
Although, I would argue that luffy's gear three PSI would would higher than that of a blimp and thus more like two passenger jet tires slamming into Odz' face.

Either way, it's something that would defeat even the mighty and fat Odz. Or anybody, for that matter.
Have always been a huge fan of Gear 3rd.
WOW! Great Chapters. Thanks BF and others who provided mirrors.
Luffy has seemed consistently aggressive this arc. Is this perhaps a sly change over of Luffy's character and fighting ability by Oda? I understood the NL onslaught, but luffy gets up and is ready to go back at finishing off Orz. Then promptly goes into Gear 3rd, and does the Giganto Bazooka right into Orz'a face. Maybe this is just an opportunity for Oda to have the SHP totally obliterate an opponent, where by normally they hold back a bit.
Nonetheless, great chapter. Moria was still KO'ed in the panels I could make out of him. anyone notice if he regained consciousness or not?
Also, the SH crew seemed unaffected by Luffy's Gear 3rd, isn't this the 1st time they've seen him this way? or can I just not make out the expressions in the panels?
Holy shit, gear 3 is pretty much unstoppable, isn't it?
The cool thing is that Odz could have dodged it normally. Everybody did their part during this fight. It's definitely a classic.
Shame Moria probably won't be able to do anything else now, though…
Thanks, Battle Franky.
3 day coma my ass…

I couldn't agree more. @freedom:

Yup, this entire zombie sequence has allowed the strawhats to actually kill off opponents. Because they need to functionally kill the zombie to return the shadow, they get to use killing strikes for the first time this entire series. I think I'll honestly miss this degree of brutality in later arcs.
Nonetheless, great chapter. Moria was still KO'ed in the panels I could make out of him. anyone notice if he regained consciousness or not?
From the HQ Jojohot scan (thanks doflamingo) it seems that moria is no longer in the cockpit in later panels. So it would seem he has escaped.
Also, the SH crew seemed unaffected by Luffy's Gear 3rd, isn't this the 1st time they've seen him this way? or can I just not make out the expressions in the panels?
Well, Franky and Usopp are looking on shocked/amazed while sanji has a calculating expression on his face. It would seem this is the first time they've witnessed the mighty gear three.
It's becoming increasingly apparent that Odr was the Pirate King of his time… or close to it, at least. Looks like with him being chained up, frozen, and his right arm busted, though, he's no match for the combined Strawhats.
Luffy's Gigant Bazooka was awesome, but it's kind of funny how despite its size, Odr's size is so massive that it becomes dwarfed.
It was a pretty good chapter, but it really was short for what Oda usually posts.

Wasn't Gol D. Roger the first Pirate King?
This Chapter is made of win. I really hope Brooke joins.

It's most likely the first time they've actually seen it, but after the EL siege was safely over, Luffy propably told them about it. That'd explain how they all could work out a plan that removed gear 3's one weakness, it's speed, and allow Luffy to land his perhaps strongest single blow yet.
I mean, the panel of Odz' face getting mashed into itself looks even more painful to me than the spine breakage.
Who doesn't love gear 3?

Me too…even if it's purification, Oda is permanently removing characters for the first time in who knows how long. Seeing as how this arc has a lot of "death", perhaps Hogbacks chances really are slim.
Heh, a cool detail is that Odz still has the hole through his shoulder Brook gave him.

No, he was A Pirate King, and the former one. We haven't had confirmation either way that he was the first or not. I don't think he was, to be honest.
Joho scans look real good, can't wait for the japanese scans & the translation, a TON is going on!
Do we not usually have a translation so long after the chapter has been out o.o?

I see no change in Luffy´s agression it only happened quicker then before which makes sense seeing that this is no mega arc (though it already has outnumber the previous mini arcs chapter-wise).
Luffy always defeats his opponent having his anger at the top boiling point. This doesn´t mean he´s not serious all of the time, but his final attacks always have the full extent of his wrath and anger behind it. The defeats of Arlong, Crocodile, Enel and Rucchi all followed that parameter.
And now agains Moria/Odz it only seems he got more serious because we practically didn´t see several chapters exchanging blows and having a built up to the true final.
nice avatar, BUTTERS!! did you make that yourself or is that Oda's design? i've been waiting for a franky jolly roger! either way, it's SUPAH!!
@Fire Fist:
It's becoming increasingly apparent that Odr was the Pirate King of his time… or close to it, at least.
I don't really see how that would be the case. From what we know of Odz, he is more like the mythical dragon that Ryuma fought in his life time than any sort of Pirate.
Odz is a guy who moved islands, defeated all comers, but was too stupid to move in out of the cold and froze to death. If he were some sort of Pirate King you would at least have expected his crew to warm him up, start a fire or something. I don't mean to say that he wasn't a badass in his day, but if he lacked sufficient brains/resources to put on a coat in the middle of a blizzard then he was no kind of Pirate King.
With all this talk about Odz' past life, I really wouldn't say no to a mini flashback like the one Dorry and Brogy got, as the Straw Hats take off from TB. Or Robin telling the others about the legend, or a narration while panning over Odz corpse going "hundreds of years ago, there was a fearsome demon…" Or something.
Every shichibukai and admiral isn't going to be that high class by the time we reach the end of the series. Look at Crocodile, he's worlds below some of the characters that have come after him.
Sorry with the things Doflamingo has done, & the info we got on him, he is a high class char.(Put your H8tin aside)
On topic, Love this chapter, glad to see that nothing was a watsed, I love how the SH took down Odr as a crew.
For those who are interested, Kudou has the trans up on the trans/scan sub forum.
One new note from the trans: Odz had the opportunity to defend himself from luffy's gigant bazooka but failed because he couldn't move his right arm. All of those direct attacks to Odz right arm paid off and are what allowed for the finishing blow.
Another thing is that Luffy is horribly drained from having all of those shadows in him. If he has to fight Moria now, he'll be greatly handicapped by severe exhaustion. Then again, Moria can't be fairing too well after nightmare luffy crunched his face, so maybe he escaped entirely.
I love this chapter. Not only was it awsome in it's own right but everyone, even Brooke, did something to help put down Odz. Thanks for the chapter.
Am going to go ahead and predict that Moria tries to escape, and while doing so, gives back the all the shadows so the Strawhats won't pursue him.
That way, he can "Live to fight another day!" and whatnot.
I'm kinda expecting Moria doing something iredeemeble in Kumas eyes (or the straw hats doing the opposite) With the result being Kuma taking down/arresting Moria. A guy who carries around a bible and is faithful to the WG can't have the highest opinion of a zombie lord who still dreams of being pirate king.
ty for the chapter
hahahh looked like odz went super saiyan when he got bazookad, his hair is all spikey
a little birdy told me that FH should have the scan out within the hour (I looked at the 480 workstation ).
Can't wait for the FH scanlation.
I am sick and this made me feel better.
Odz fucking got PWNED!
I was going to say that if Gol D Rogers weren't the first pirate king we would know about something, but… there is the blank century, the world could be a place of adventurers since ever, untill the dictators came.
Where is this notion that Odz was the pirate king coming from?
Because he's big?
Holy shit. o_o I'm gone for 5 days and people are assuming that Oz is the Pirate King?
You people are out of your minds.
I could belive that there were other pirate kings, but that that dumb monster was one of them??? The only thing about his character traits that we know (because all of him was luffy) is that he walked in a lioncloth around in a frozen land… To be a pirate king one should be first: A pirate, have a "super crew", get to do something bigger than the last pirate king, and have the dream of doing it.
@Mr.:
Where is this notion that Odz was the pirate king coming from?
Because he's big?
Well, Odr had to develop the concept of "The Pirate King" from somewhere. He actively acted like he knew what it was; he didn't just contract it from Luffy's shadow. When he called Sanji's name, he didn't know who Sanji was and stated something to that effect, yet when he mentioned the Pirate King, he actively knew what it was, even picturing some pirate guy and making himself a hat.
In any case, Odr was so powerful that they had to exile the guy simply because they were unable to kill him. That should tell you something about his authority in the past.
Plus, he's larger than a giant, and he can't be the only of his race, so there had to be more of his race around the Grand Line… part of the last history, perhaps.
hmm i wonder where kuma has been while all of this has been going on. since kuma can teleport anywhere it seems maybe he has been watching the fight up close all this time. since kuma does hold a bible he may end up forcing moria to return the shadows because he promised. don't know why but kuma seems like the kinda guy that would hold you to your word if you promised something and he didn't interfere in the fight just like he promised.
Fire Fist why the hell do you call him Odr?
it seems oz is down for the count this time. Now, will Moria also rise up and fight again? Or will ODA save him for later? Anyways here is
**bY FrankyHouse (**Chapter 480 Scan)
Enjoy the Chapter and wait for the HQ much later. We did our best.
Fire Fist why the hell do you call him Odr?
I could ask you why you call him Oz.
As Greg explained it, it's a Japanese transliteration of Oðr, which is an aspect of Odin, and the husband of the Giantess Freyja. So, calling him Odr is the closest thing to what Oda's intention was.
No zombie has memory of it's lifetime, they act as their shadows, the only one that kind of did was Cindry, and after a double brainfuck by Choper and Hogback.
Ryuma was diferent because he was told repetidely his leyend and stuff-
I'm glad Oda decided to use Gear 3rd and not Gear 2nd this arc. It proves he's smart enough to be like "Hey, I know Gear 2nd drains Luffy's lifespan, I won't overdo it and make it a Super Saiyan like thing."
Gear 3rd is so awesome.
Plus, next chapter is chibi Luffy.
I wonder if Moria will take advantage of that..
Good chapter so far.
Thanks BF!
Thanks for the chapter!
Now all that's left are the rest of the shadows ;p
Gear 3rd and Three Thousand Worlds. Was not expecting to see those again.
And they're still attacking Oz/Odz? Seems like Moria should be their main focus now, but I guess it does make sense that they essentially stop him from moving around, even though that ice should have done the trick.
wow. just wow. i can't believe i just read that.
chibi Luffy FTW! i wonder what will happen next week.
and on Odz being the pirate king… wasn't it explained that shadows keep the memories of their old masters for a while. and during that whole time Odz never listened to Moria and did whatever he wanted to. doens't that explain it? and anyways, Odz died because his stupid ass went somewhere cold and just died there? and wasn't his origin explained? i don't really feel like looking it up, but i'm 99% sure there is no way that Odz was a pirate king.
Jeez, the art in this chapter got a bit ugly.
Now that I have a scanlation of the chapter, I have to say that Oz's takedown was done so well. Good to see how useful Gear 3 can really be. I love how the villain takedown is so unque from the ones we've seen thus far.
Oda never ceases to deliver.
FH the scanlation was AWESOME. I thought it was gonna be LQ but to me it seemed HQ.
My suggestion to them is that they should not even bother releasing a HQ.
Well, Luffy could always propel himself into the air with Fuusen to perform something insane like a Giant Storm, using the weight of the falling fists to do the flurry, so yeah, I doubt this is going to be the last time we are going to see Gear3 taking down a villain.
Anyways, I found interesting how this chapter pretty much pointed that Kaidou may have just had some super powerful allies instead of being an all mighty loner like Mihawk. Maybe this means that Kuma will be the ultimate enemy of the strawhats in a nearby future.
