Personally, I haven't really enjoyed it. It's been funnier than most other arcs but thats all it really has going for it. How do you guys feel about it?
How do you feel about the current arc?
-
-
I didn't appreciate what felt like amounted to disrespect of Nami's character, but other than that its quite enjoyable.

Ya agree with you there.
I really like this arc. I joined in around Enies Lobby so this is my first "full arc" where I have to wait pretty much every week. So far the story dosent seem as serious and more light hearted (but that seems like its going to change). Im really enjoying the atmosphere and the "adventureness" of the arc right now.
-
So far, this arc has been tantilizing.
-
It's true that Nami has been used for a bit more fanservice than usual. But it doesn't bother me that much. Oda still manages to give the story a creepy, horror movie feel to it, and balance the comedy.
-
I'm really enjoying it. A fun, adventurous arc is what I wanted after the more serious Water 7/Enies Lobby arcs finished.
-
It makes me feel sad and alone. Does this mean I'm a bad person? I hate you Dad.
-
Even though Skypiea was the first real time the Strawhats went on an adventure, it left something to be desired. So far, Thriller Bark is succeeding where Skypiea failed. And now that we've got another Shicibukai that's gonna show up soon, this arc is gonna be great. But even without that, this arc would still be beyond great. How can you not like Brooke, or a plate-hating zombie maid?
-
With this, we'll get something out of it, not like how Skypeia gyped us with almost no development in the plot. "Oh, we get dials! Oh, Roger went to Skypeia!". Big deal. Now we get a shichibukai, a "potential" nakama, an explination of TS, probably a new sword for Zoro. Lots of good stuff.
-
I'm sorta enjoying it, actually. I just wish it would get to the point, cause it's draggin just a bit. And, really I get so irritated how people get so uptight about Nami's fanservice. It's not like she's a real person and it's not screwing the plot of the whole manga, so why do people get so upset? Oda's just using horror movies as a example. You know, the defenseless but rather attractive female lead in a horror film.
-
Yeah, most guys would/are happy about the shower scene.
-
Recently, it feels as though the story's slowed down… actually, I guess there's no questioning it, considering how almost every chapter from the end of Water 7 into the beginning of this arc revealed something amazing.
I'm pretty much just waiting for more Brooke action.
-

"TS"? (16 characters)
-
@Mr.:
"TS"? (16 characters)
Just figured it out, Thousand Sunny.
This arc is awesome, and i;m enjoying it. I'm the average teenage guy so i don't mind the fanservice at all, and i'm glad this arc is gonna be adventurous and intense.
-
This is one of the more preferrable arc beginnings for me so far.
-
Too early to tell.
-
Once more is revealed i can make a full judegement but i think this arc has potential. a lot has been set up right now, so i wanna see how they all work together.
-
I daresay this is going to be one of my favourite arcs. Oda has been drawing the same characters for almost… what, TWO years? All that creative energy built up and is being released in this arc right now. (And I guess he has already finished the designs for some of the mermaid arc's characters too.)
So, I'm really happy about new funny characters like Brook and Hogback showing up, including a new female character to drool over, a whole arc with a "theme", and all the stitches and bandages around. Because I basically love stitches and bandages. What got me worried a bit was the possibility of a friggin skeleton as a new main character and the announcement of a new shichibukai on this island, which kinda seems to throw over the premise of this adventure. But since One Piece is and will probably always be the single only Jump series that will never ever jump the shark, I guess there's nothing to worry about.I do find it sad though that people who thought this arc wasn't fun at all are now all enthusiastic just because Gecko Moria was mentioned. So just because there's not a character related to affairs of global importance in an arc you think that arc sucks?? Maybe you're reading One Piece for the wrong reasons.
-
I haven't even read the arc yet. I'm still at the part where they board the Thousand Sunny. I found that after Enies Lobby ended, I just stopped caring altogether. I suppose I was just dissapointed with it, because that was the story that got me interested in One Piece. Luffy vs Bleuno was just fantastic. I watched the entire series, and then went back for the galactic ending of Enies Lobby, and I got more stupid Usopp sub-plots and the cliche "Eat and Leave" deal. I was just expecting more from One Piece, and I got nothing.
That's probably why I don't even want to get into this arc. It doesn't seem particuarlly exciting, save for that ridiculous shower scene.
-
I'll admit I thought this arc was pretty boring until the last chapter came out. whoa, did it bring me back to enjoying One Piece once again ;pPp. It was fun seeing Luffy tame an undead cerberus, pushing a zombie back into its grave (where normal, as in really NORMAL, people would just freak out), seeing the guys getting ready for some @$$-smashing and the introduction of a new Shichibukai. I'd say this chapter brought me back to One Piece.
-
I have been completely enjoying this arc so far. The last chapter that everyone else said finally made it more interesting kind of bored me though, lol.
I really like the character designs and the creepy atmosphere of the island. Something completely unexpected, very different from previous arcs, and somewhat refreshing after such the long, tedious Enies Lobby. And I totally dig the naked Nami action.
-
I like it a lot. It reminds me of Nightmare before christmas, that is one of my favourite movies.
It at first felt like it was going to be a very short and filler-like arc like Davy back fight, but then they started talking about this new shichibukai…
I hope this arc will focuse more on the adventure and less on fighting. I think we got enough of that in Enies lobby. -
I'm enjoying the designs of characters… Since I enjoy horror I'm not bothered by any of this and am more fascinated by the characters. Compared to Foxy and his arc, this is a lot better. I'm bored of the news of a Shichibukai, because after being introduced to the Yonkou, they seem like nothing.
-
well Nightmare before christmas is one of odas fav movie thats why he based it on the film but over all i like this arc and ive liked all arcs in one piece thats why it is the best !
-
i hope oda is a fan of monkey island…zorro will fight the guardian with some insults and luffy will find the big whoop ...oups one piece
-
Its been okay but not as good as what came before it. Then again, when you've just come off an arc like Enies Lobby and the the Ace/BB fight, you can get desperate to see what happens next.
-
At first I was of a mixed mind, but I'm starting to like it more and more with every passing chapter.
To be honest, I wasn't very impressed with Brook. I found him vaguely amusing and kind of nifty, but I didn't get what was so OMG!FCKINAWSUM! about him. I find him somewhat similar to Gaimon, in that to me he seems more like an insane, over the top joke character that was made for fun just for this arc than anything else. His story and background got more interesting as time passed, but he honestly wasn't and still isn't a character that I want to see continuing on until the end of the series.
I'm also with Falcon in that I'm growing more and more disheartened with Nami's characterisation and portrayal as fanservice. It was bad enough during Enies Lobby and her fight with Califa, but seeing her getting manhandled while bathing was like, meh. Maybe I'm just overreacting, but to me it seems like her characterisation is taking a backseat to her looks and smex appeal. I'm hoping that it's just a phase that Oda is going through instead of something permanent, because Nami is too rich a character, like all of the Straw Hats, to sacrifice to the lowest common denominator that is fanservice.
Beyond that though, this arc wins for me and wins big for one major reason. I love zombies. I love pirates. Pirates + zombies = JOY BEYOND WORDS. This arc really feels like something out of the humour/horror genre with an adventure twist, and I'm absolutely loving that. I also really like how the Straw Hats have been split up in such a way that makes it easy to directly compare how the different characters interact to the same situation. While Nami, Usopp and Chopper, the physically 'weaker' characters, seem to be freaking out something fierce at every turn, the 'stronger' characters are just ploughing through the haunted, zombie infested graveyard like they're on an afternoon stroll. It's interesting to see that stark contrast in how the different characters approach the same basic events, and I'm hoping that we'll get some more focus on the 'weaker' characters during this arc like we have been so far. It'll be nice to hopefully see Nami, Usopp and Chopper getting a chance to shine while Luffy et al. are off wandering around, especially if it turns out that brains more than brawn are necessary to solve the mystery of Thriller Bark.
Plus, we've got another Shichibukai introduced, which is always good because it helps to expand the underlying storyline behind One Piece more, and we got to see Luffy pushing a zombie back into the ground. That was way fun.
Overall though, I think that this arc still can go either way; it has the potential to be truly awesome and out there in a very Oda-tastic way, but I can just as easily see it being nothing special as well. I don't think that it can get particularly bad, but I can see it becoming another generic in-between arc that was done more for kicks than anything else. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind.
And, really I get so irritated how people get so uptight about Nami's fanservice. It's not like she's a real person and it's not screwing the plot of the whole manga, so why do people get so upset?
I find it irritating because I don't see the necessity of it. Nami is a great character who can be just as sexy as she is strong, so why force her into the role of the gratuitous fanservice chick? Granted, the fanservice here has hardly been gratuitous by any stretch, but it's something that has been becoming more and more noticeable recently. Also, the fanservice in and of itself hasn't been annoying me much; it's just disheartening to think that this shift in Nami's characterisation will become even more pronounced as the series progresses.

At the beginning with all this zombies i thougt this arc is a little to
spacey
it remembered me of the davy back fight arc and this was the funniest arc up to now….
but the new shichibukai-thing makes that arc for me more interisting that as i hoped..
but whatever in a arc happen or not...i trust in odass style and every arc was brilliant up to now and getting even better from time to time so is it also with such a
crazyarc but thats OP...it will never lose his funny style like DB which was only for pur power at the end...:getlost: :cool:lean back and enjoy everything what comes......... but the fishmanislandarc i waiting for since 8 years now,so this arc hasn
t to be so long like alabasta or skypia (and not even close to w7 lol) -
and what if oda decides not to go to the fishmen island? if luffy decides he doesn't want to go to this island: after all nami is not a fan of fishmen, sanji is scared after the the old and ugly mermaid, usopp will have his "i don't want to go to this island" disease, chopper will be scared about his DF and water.
-
For the moment it has been fun though a little slow. I have to say it's the first time I follow the manga "live" during a transition arc since I started reading OP on a weekly basis during the sea train arc, so that's probably why I've been a bit bored at time.
But overall Brook was brilliant and Moria's introduction is sure to speed things up, so everything's good.
-
This arc is pretty creative..but the mention of one of the warlords leads me to believe that luffy will fight everyone in OPverse which leads me too belive that OP wont be finished until im like 30. On an off note if luffy is able to beat gecko moria that mean he is stronger than the rest of the 7 warlords
-
The start up's of arc's are never to terribly exciting. Just think about it, how many arc starts have been super exciting? They all talk about things relevant to the action part of the arc.
This arc did a good job at arc start up. Had good comedy, suspense, and plot points.
I didn't expect many people to like it yet. Where we are in this arc right now is probably around where they first meet Foxy in the Foxy arc. Where before we meet him all we had to chew on was a man who got trapped on stilts and a hooooooooorse. But I expect this to heat up in this arc very fast, since the idle chit chat seems to be mostly over with.
-
and what if oda decides not to go to the fishmen island? if luffy decides he doesn't want to go to this island: after all nami is not a fan of fishmen, sanji is scared after the the old and ugly mermaid, usopp will have his "i don't want to go to this island" disease, chopper will be scared about his DF and water.
Well for one, they got no other choice, the Logpass is pointing to the next island, which comes to be Fishman Island. Two, if Luffy wants to go there's no way for anybody to argue about it. Three, nobody is taking Usopp's disease serious, as seen when they mimicked him before landing on Thriller Bark. Four, not all mermaids are old hags like Kokoro so Sanji will still be longing to meet some (even though it was quite a traumatic experience seeing Kokoro half naked..).
-
So far this Arc is very enjoyable. A 'Spooky Vision' to OP, it's something we didn't see yet, and so far it's wonderful. But you know what, this question about this Arc should be questioned in the end of it.
-
Up until the latest chapter and Brooke's chapter… I haven't really enjoyed this arc. It was very predictable at one point.
One Piece just got slightly less interesting at that point. Even at the moment, it's not really filling it's potential... but with a Shichibukai mentioned, it'll probably do that towards the end of the arc.
But, compared to Jaya arc, this isn't as good.
-
I've enjoyed the arc its really funny. I don't understand when people are saying the arc is bad what makes it bad and slow. It doesn't make sense you just want to land on an unknown island and be like eneemy fight kill. Its called a plot and they usually take time to develop. People that are like man its not a serious a enies lobby or w/e its like the whole show can't be a serious of serious fright from island to island then why not just name it dbz or yu yu hakusho.
@s$bz i highly doubt u predict what was goin 2 happen in the arc.
-
On an off note if luffy is able to beat gecko moria that mean he is stronger than the rest of the 7 warlords
The other Shichibukai could be stronger then him… They have frozen bounties... Meaning they don't reflect the man carrying them anymore, they could be stronger. Plus bounties don't reflect strength anyway, its threat level.
Why a guy can be scared of another with 100 mil then him, it means he is a lot more dangerous to handle then you. You may still be stronger even with the bounty so far apart, its just with dealing with him you'll have to pray he is in a good mood and isn't up for a game of chase, the bloodsport kind.
-
A couple of the chapters with Nami, Usopp and Chopper running around the castle bored me, but overall I'm really liking this arc, and it looks like it's going to get even better soon.
-
I have to say that this is the best Arc ever, here are the things i like the most
1.Brook
2.Naked Nami(Nose Bleed)
3.Cerberus
4.More Face Faults(Robin has gotten 2)
5.Gecko Moria
6.Absalom
7.New combo attack
8.Usopp's new outfit
9.Hildon -
Yeah, Brook shook my idea that my favorite character is Sanji. Sanji still is, but Brook is an ultra close second.
-
Since no arc is perfect and I never hear of anyone giving one arc a 100% postive comments. This arc is slow and a bit predicateble. I do hope this arc keeps the story far away from the New World, unless he decides not to end his story in Raftel. This arc is fine overall, we get to see more adventures and new people/animals/orgenazations/everything. I got tired of Water 7/Enies Lobby/Post Enies Lobby arc, I'm glad Oda is finally moving his story and we finally get to see a spooky/horror theme that we waited for so long.
I was tired of this whole Nami "fanservice" thing but that may be the last one, I'll be upset if Oda kept doing that.
Usopp's outfit was cool, still a croward but he got some character change; he does not lie and he manage to use his sniping skills without holding back
We finally get to see another Shichibukai and I'm edger to see what happens next
This arc is fun and spooky, so I hope this arc is not disconnected from the main story
-
wats so predictable about this arc? how is it slow ?
-
I'm growing worried this is going to be a big long arc… blocking the path to Gyojin Island.
-
To be honest, I wasn't very impressed with Brook.
Do you like Franky?
-
I find it irritating because I don't see the necessity of it.
Necessity? In a story of pure entertainment, there's a lot that isn't necessary.
I don't want Nami to turn into a fanservice character either; I feel like she's taken a back seat since Alabasta and I'm hoping that she'll get more serious development on the fishman island. As long as she isn't continually neglected, she can give as much fanservice as Oda wants, as far as I'm concerned. It's not fanservice I'm concerned about so much as lack of substance. -
So far, so good. It is fun to see Usopp in a more 'action-oriented' role: running away screaming like a little girl while launching Fire Stars and candles at zombies with a "f**k off" attitude.
I do have to agree with those who have complained about the way Nami has been portrayed so far in this arc. She hasn't seemed this helpless in a long time. Strong, resourceful women are a rarity in shounen manga and the loss of these traits from one of the main characters in one of the most popular shounen manga in publication seems a senseless waste.
Chopper's antics- coupled with Usopp's Exorcist Gear and Chopper's blingin' cross- have made the past few chapters quite funny and endearing. Once the current arc gets animated, I really hope to see TWSS Productions- and Royce in particular- make a 'Dub Piece' episode from the "Doktor Hogback" chapters.
Jinjue pointed out that brains may prove more important than brawn in this arc. I think that both will come into play, once the two groups are reunited. I also agree with whoever said that Robin should say 'Jinkies!' before all is said and done. We've already gotten a 'Zoinks!' reaction from Usopp and Chopper- sort of. Now, if Heavy Point Chopper will jump into Usopp's arms in fear…
With all of the foreshadowing concerning the Florian Triangle from the end of the previous arc plus the world-shaking battles of Shanks VS. Whitebeard and Ace VS. Blackbeard, it's no surprise that Oda is taking his time to reveal the mysteries of Thriller Bark. Once the action is resolved at Thriller Bark and the Strawhats reach Fishman Island, everything may still be topsy-turvy.
The introduction of another Shichibukai could have interesting implications. If Ace is indeed dead, Whitebeard might leave the New World to pursue Teach personally. Such a move, coinciding with news of another Shichibukai's defeat at the hands of Monkey D. Luffy, might be enough to convince the Navy to grant Teach's request. In addition, they might give him the order to recruit Luffy into the Shichibukai- or kill him, if he refuses.
This may well be a short arc, or it could end up like Skypiea- a long story taking place outside of the ordinary boundaries of the world which reveals something important at the end. Either way, I expect somrthing important to the plot to develop because of this arc. There are no 'filler' arcs in the manga.
-
@_Meh_:
We've already gotten a 'Zoinks!' reaction from Usopp and Chopper- sort of. Now, if Heavy Point Chopper will jump into Usopp's arms in fear…
Not heavy point…walk point would be more accurate.
-
True, but Usopp straining to support the bulk of Heavy Point Chopper is a pretty funny mental image.
-
This is also true…he'd probably collapse under the weight though...
-
DBF and Skypiea were my two favorite arcs. But still, I see this as filler. If Oda seems bored, then I am bored.
