I know both Chinese and Japanese, and 霸氣 is a common phrase in both languages.
You mean 覇気 is a common phrase in Japanese and 霸氣 is a common phrase in Chinese, right?

The only one I can think of that hasn't been mentioned is Paulie..his entire look was based off of a model in an ad!
Also, Paulie might be an allusion to the Reeperbahn in the St. Pauli district in Hamburg (city where a famous pirate got executed btw), where they used to produce ropes. Today it's a place for strip clubs, prostitutes, parties and basically everything Paulie would find scandalous. Indication's that his name was pronounced Pa-u-ri in Japanese rather than Po - o - ri.
I'm in favour of replacing all the Gs with SSJs in this thread.
Or let's just replace this thread with one that hasn't been discussed to death already.
Finally this thread has become the travesty that it has been right from the beginning.
@Fire Fist:
How about the Haitian Revolt? Or does that not count, for some reason?
It doesn't count because Arlong went to the other side of the world to build himself a little empire instead of being an oppressed minority fighting off the oppressors. If Arlong Park had taken place in Fishman Island we'd be talking.
So I truly hope (and you should do so as well) that Oda doesn't retcon Arlong's role into something even remotely like a this because he was the biggest racist in the whole series so far.
I wonder if anybody has ever noted this but the person, Jewelry Bonney is most modeled after, is in fact Japanese eating champion (or "Glutton" if you will) Gal Sone. I guess it's quite unusual for a girl (!) of her physique (!!) to be able to eat a mountain of hamburgers and make a living out of it, which is probably why she's all over the place advertising for restaurants or appearing on shows. Any allusion to historical pirate Anne Bonny is merely nominal.
Proof:
Maybe thats it.
Knowledge could be the one piece, a knowledge so dangerous and scandalous, that it can shake the very foundations of the WG.
It isn't solely because of Roger that the study of poneglyphs is forbidden, but he caused the first major uproar about it, and the WG is scared as hell.
It's because anybody studying it will be able to gain access to the One piece, something they wanted to execute alongside Roger.
Actually it should be the other way round. Everybody, please remember the moment when we learned Roger was proficient in Porneglyph. He wrote a message in Porneglyph, so it's a message to other scholars. Why the hell would he tell some scholar just about this much? And when Robin said that the Shandian tablet had already "fulfilled its purpose", what do you think it means?
EXACTLY THIS:
@Kidany:
So if any other crews make it to Raftel it does them no good since the Rio Poneglyph will be unreadable, so the knowledge will remain a mystery.
Roger made sure, that other people would be able to read the True History! In other words, One Piece might be a translation of the Rio Porneglyph. So he wrote the message on the Shandian Porneglyph so that other scholars wouldn't waste their time with searching for more stone monoliths anymore but going right after Raftel. Somebody as clever as to learn Porneglyph should get that much when seeing the message being signed by the Pirate King.
Furthermore, by making the anouncement of the existence of the biggest treasure in the world he directed the general attention towards the True History. Neat sideeffect: More pirates to bug the WG. In conclusion, Roger was really just trying to bug the hell outta the WG.
b) Belly still isn't that much in OP world. We haven't clearly gotten any idea what its worth. The only things I can remeber that they have bought (where we know the price) is 1) the Yagara bull renting in W7. 2) the 200 million Adam wood on the black market which is supposedly "a lot". 3) those bubble vehicles in shabondy.
None of this really have any equal in the real world and we don't know how hard to maintain these things are so we cant accurately apriciate their value.
I thought I remembered Sanji mentioning an actual number for how much rice you can buy with that much money in the scene with the White Berets. Or was this a mistake by the translators in this one…?
I'd usually go with 1 Belly = approximately 1 Yen, so not that much.
hes still the strongest admiral its been stated so u should reread one piece
May I inquire where it had been stated? His power makes him pretty tough indeed, but I cannot really remember where somebody actually said he was the strongest.
@Lobster:
Ohh, and I hate how pirate battles are only decided by the two or three Pirate Bosses, while the HUNDREDS of lower ranks just STAND THERE :(
Not true! They get punched all at the same time by Gum-Gum-Gatling. Standing there and being punched. THAT'S their job.
WTF Ode to Joy for Absalom's introduction scene?
