Pretty sure Donflamingo still has a crew.
Chapter 449 - "The Mysterious Four of Thriller Bark"
-
-
i need some clarifications. Aren't Shichibukai suppose to sail by themselves? Why does Moria have a crew in his huge boat?
No, they are not supposed to sail by themselves. That is just a rumour that is based on fan-speculation because the first Shichibukai we ever saw was Mihawk (who in fact sails alone) and because Jinbei and Arlong go seperate ways. But per definition the Shichibukai are "Pirates who work for the World Government". That´s all that is official. Wether or not it is a must that they have to be alone was so far not established anywhere outside of fan speculations.
-
And remember, Doflamingo was in charge of the group of pirates in Jaya until he left. Then, Bellamy apparantly took over as the captain.
-
@Senshi:

Ahem, where was it said that this was Doflamingo´s crew. Seeing that the Bellamy Pirates were also testing possible candidates for the New Era it is more then likely to assume that they themselves are just some minor fools who Doflamingo found since this entire New Era is his idea. He wouldn´t have talked about a great age where true heroes survive right after he finished off Bellamy if he wouldn´t have quite a huge lot of other people among his ranks.
-
moria looks so creepy and if i might say thats one allsome pirate flag design.
way worth the wait and next weeks the big 450 chapter most likey has the title (midnight hunt) -
@Senshi:
I knew Dr. Hogback was twisted and all, but who would've thought he was working with Moria. And apparantly Brooke is with him, too. The designs for Absolom and Verona are beyond great. I wonder if I'll like them more once we get to know their characters better?
I guessed immediately that they were working together. It's a pretty small island.
-
Those Damn Dirty Dawgs, get rid of those annoying images you french imbeciles!
-
I love Moria's Creepy Toy collection he's got going on there. His whole ship is making me think of that arcade game "Carn-evil".

Agreed, You would think a guy who plan's on starting a "New Era" would have some strong pirates in his ranks.
Ahem, Onemoment and freedom need to read this!

Despite the horrible quality of the scans, you can already tell that the art in this chapter was top-notch. I really liked the scene with Perona. I think she may have the opposite fruit to Robin's, instead of being able to rpoject her body she can project her mind in the form of little ghosts. It'd be a Paramecia.
And now I'll repost my wild new theory about Brook:
Brook is not a skeleton and never was a skeleton. What we saw on the ship with the Strawhats wasn't Brook, it was a real skeleton of someone who had been killed by Moria (therefore the lack of shadow) that was being moved by invisible Absalom (that's how he got on the ship) and had a snail-phone inside its skull/afro so that the Guardian could project his voice, since it's less scary than Absalom's. Absalom only started attacking the crew after "Brook's" skeleton had been taken away by a Perona-ghost because he was the one holding it all the time before.
So there is no Brook, everything fits!
-
Monkey Spirit…... don't bet on it.
Also,
Pretty sure Donflamingo still has a crew.
Pretty sure he doesn't since Shichibukai aren't allowed to officially have a crew, are they? They have to leave their crew to join, which is why he went to his "old crew" to kill Bellamy for disgracing his former flag.
-
Resonable theory, though someone else brought it up in the spoiler thread (unless you did it, and were just reposting it here.)
And we assume Don Flamingo was the former captain of the "Bellamy Pirates" because he was pissed that Bellamy "disgraced his flag."
-
I know I'm late, but I just read the chap, so which one of these guys is Moria?
-

Sorry but that theory is bullcrack! In chapter 443 the person itself, Brook got characterized pretty well in a short amount of time that even all the Strawhats that were completely against him did at least remained silent after hearing about Brooks feelings which indeed were a bit touching (and very Strawhat-esque).
The little what we´ve seen of Absalom so far clearly shows that he would neither have the patience nor the will to sit quietly through such a discussion that totally goes against his portrayal leave alone that he would even aid someone by moving a skeleton around.
Furthermore Absalom and Perona are Thriller Bark residents, they most probably could have just got on board Sunny when it was already in the island-ships reach. And when they met Brook at the very begining there was no Thriller Bark in sight.
Pretty sure he doesn't since Shichibukai aren't allowed to officially have a crew, are they? They have to leave their crew to join, which is why he went to his "old crew" to kill Bellamy for disgracing his former flag.
Please check this response.
-
Monkey Spirit…... don't bet on it.
So what's your explanation for the Guardian? At first I thought he might be able to make himself partially invisible so that you can only see his bones, but invisibility is Absalom's power.
(I hope it's clear that I'm just having a laugh with all of this?)
-
I know I'm late, but I just read the chap, so which one of these guys is Moria?
That would be the giant.
-
On the topic of Moria - I don´t know if it has been mentioned or not (since I can´t read half of the posts in this thread) but with the twists the past couple of chapters have taken so far it wouldn´t surprise me if Moria turns out to be a giant baby/kid.
Could be some sort of weird psycho kid that set sails to play pirate. I mean it could be like all the creatures at Thriller Bark are his "toys" about whom he doesn´t care if they suffer or not as long as he has his fun. And also giants live up to 300 years. So even if he´s 40 or something like that he might still be a kid.
Would make him an exceptional character among the Shichibukai but hell, why not? As if the WG wouldn´t use some super strong psycho giant kid pirate to intimidate other pirates. Just a thought anyways.
I like that prediction a lot. The big tooth grin seen on the last page would fit well with a child proportioned face. Also, the area that he is sleeping in is filled with deranged teddy bears, zombie dolls and stars. It has the look of a child's bedroom as designed by a serial killer.

Wow, beautifully said in short words. Mind if I borrow that statement if needed?

Lol, then how could he run on water? Absalom was already on the ship licking Robin. I guess some magical shadow-less rope and pully system. Man Oda is getting tricky.
-
I said that was a Perona ghost carrying him! ;D
-
ugh, what terrible raws. are all of those jojo… logos really necessary? i guess i shouldn't complain, it's amazing that we get them this soon as it is… hopefully better ones will surface.
interesting chapter. not really sure what happened between uso/nami/cho saying "brooke?" and crashing into the lab. did he push them in or did they run in just upon seeing him? can't wait to see moria in action, and i like the idea of moria being a child giant, or something similar, makes a lot of sense with the theme of the arc. it'll be interesting to see how the battles pan out... i bet it won't be quite as predictable as it's been shaping up. i mean, who guessed that robin would take out Yama in Skypiea?
as for the brooke theory that he doesn't really exist... it's possible but improbable. mark my words... brooke will end up a crew member. he might not look like a skeleton when he joins, but he'll join. it definitely won't be as simple as just defeating moria though. brooke's shadow being stolen might make him controllable, or the shadow might be evil until returned to it's rightful owner.
anyway... great character design as always, oda-sensei. my personal favorite is the ghost princess: perona. one of the weirdest looking girls he's made yet.

im going for a giant midget

Holy smurf, it is finally out:

Waynes World-esque bowing
WE'RE NOT WORTHY WE'RE NOT WORTHY!
Thank you! -
Sorry if this has already been mentioned (I didn't notice it in scanning through all the posts) but now the name Thriller Bark finally makes sense, since it is a giant pirate ship, and a bark is a kind of ship. Now I feel stupid for not thinking about that possibility earlier.
-
Moria being a "kid" would be pretty cool, and it would make sense, since Giants age at a slower rate. Hell, he could be over 100 and still be childish.
-
Well I noticed Moria's arm in the spoiler picture, and with the recent raw it seems pretty clear. It seems his arms are very long and his hands are a crab's claw or something. So I'm curious as to if Moria is even a "human giant", though he may have been altered by Hogback also.
I'm wondering where they may end up by the time the fight is over, is Thriller Bark is constantly moving.
-
three cheers for ivotas!
-
Looking at these raws, Morias skin is completely black so maybe he is made up of shadows. I think i remember somebody said that in the spoiler it only said he was as big as a giant, it didnt state he was a giant. Maybe his size is due to the amount of shadows he's stolen. He's just one huge shadow.
-
Ok guys, just finished doing the spreads. Sorry but with that scans I couldn´t do better.
@ SakuraDestiny: Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant about the bark = boat thing. If I remember correctly I even read it in a post here a while ago, that bark would be a stupid name because it could either be related to the sounds dogs are making or to ships. How blind I was.
-
Lol Nightmare before Christmas:
Jack Skeleton = Brooke
Sally = Cindry
Doctor Finklestein = Doctor Hogback
Locke Shock and Barrel = Those three who burst Moria's bubble
Oogie Boogie = Gecko MoriaAnd there's all this beauty and the beast thing going on in the castle, every furniture is alive! :O
Oda is doing great job with this arc, and I'm loving it! Not only does he have referrences from everywhere, he can still make new stuff and add in such as the zombies and shadows and zombielion-general and ghost/gothwoman who has a rod. -
Moria is a giant monkey.
-
Lol, King Kong! That would be totally unexpected if the story turns that way but I don´t see a reason why not. We´ve already seen a cross between a giant and a fishman, why not between a giant and a monkeyman?
Having a giant monkey would even work better for the comedic part if he´s a spoiled brat.
Btw, do I see that right on the promo for Yellow. Space Time? Something like the omakes maybe?
-
I think those of you comparing this arc to The Nightmare Before Christmas may be spot on. I remember reading that Oda's original name for Buggy was Boogie, but then he saw a movie where the villain was named Boogie and so he had to change it. I always thought that the movie in question was The Nightmare Before Christmas.
If this is true, then maybe Moria stores the shadows internally, just like how Boogie was full of bugs (I think?)
-
Wow, beautifully said in short words. Mind if I borrow that statement if needed?
of course.

Good call on the completely black skin. I hadn't realized that with the crappy jojohot release. I had figured that Oda was just willfully obscuring his skin to keep his appearance a surprise for later.
However, considering the black skin and the window pattern on his outfit, I'm fairly confident that Gecko Moria has a Window Paramecia that allows him to redirect the flow of light any way that he desires. What is a shadow other than a blockage in the path of light? Gecko's powers allow him to turn people into "windows" that allow light to pass freely through them (except for the angles of light that someone will see them.) This explains the burning up in sunlight by causing direct UV radiation to inner organs as the light pass through.
Oh, and CodedTech Gecko does have 5 fingers on his right hand. So while he has sharp fingers, they're not exactly crab claws.
-
Dude I love this Color Spread <3 Nami,Zoro and Luffy all look awesome :3.
Also in the scan it said that Franky's mini comic is called "Space Time"
-
Well it does seem his right hand is clearer in the picture than his right hand. Somewhat like Hogback's hand actually, I'm wodnering what (or if) his alterations may improve aside from the "undead" aspect.
-
is that pandaman in the last pannel of page 11 as a zombie?
also i thought i saw his name on a gravestone a few chapters back… -
Thanks Ivotas.
21 MB for a raw?
@boiga:I like that prediction a lot. The big tooth grin seen on the last page would fit well with a child proportioned face. Also, the area that he is sleeping in is filled with deranged teddy bears, zombie dolls and stars. It has the look of a child's bedroom as designed by a serial killer.
I agree with Ivotas. It's very hard to deny the overgrown baby theory after reading that.
But if we're going with the Nightmare before Christmas pace, wouldn't Moria be made out of bugs?
-
Yea I also saw Panda there haha.
-
The good quality RAW is out? Yes! Thank you Ivotas!
Now, we wait for the scanlation…:)
-
Thanks but is this raw or scanlation?
-
It's raw.
You can find a direct dl link here http://optrad.free.fr/
-
Thanks for the raws looks like an amazing chapter, going to way till the scanlations come out though so I can fully enjoy it
I really like the overgrown baby theory. I think it would fit great with the shadow absorption theory since little kids tend to be kind of greedy and they always want to prove themselves to the adults. So Moria keeps stealing shadows to make himself bigger than anyone else which proves to the other giants (If he is a giant) that he is just as good, if not better, than them. A fight between him and Luffy will be both awesome and comedic since both of them have childish personalities.
Also if he is childish he adds a lot of extra personality to the Shichibukai. It also says he has a hell of a lot of power because his bounty was higher than Luffy's because there is probably no way that some childish giant could be an evil mastermind. -
Why does everyone think Moria's skin is black? It's called making him "mysterious". They won't give away his final appearance until he is truely introduced…geez, people, use your common sense.
As for Brooke...I don't think he qualifies to be a crew member yet...he still has to go through his "dreams" and his obligatory flashback. Only THEN he can be a true crew member.
-
It would be okay if the giant did have dark skin though.
I mean if we can have a skeleton with an afro we can have a dark skinned giant. Also, thanks for the non JOJO scan. Much appreciated.
Its gonna be 4 big bosses with at least 741 experiments as well as Cindry and Hildon at this island. There's gonna be a huge brawl. Also, Brooke's integrity is in question here with the skin. Wonder what's with that.
Nice call with the Bark idea for the ship. Its unsettling though that we see Thousand SUnny as some giant ship only to have it miniturized by these giant ships hahaha.
-
Thanks Ivotas! For the chapter and the joined spreads. Holy Smurf indeed!
Now we finally get to enjoy all the little details of this chapter.I dig that picture of Choppy, Usopp and Nami all looking through the doorway – but the picture from behind is even funnier because of the visual joke of the huge "Spirits Begone" banner. Nami's shadowy, concerned pic on page 7 is excellent too. And all the little critters who report to Perona and Moria are great fun as well. Be sure to read the shirts of Absalom's zombies ("I am healthy", etc...)
Hogback's lab is full of coffins! Probably safe to assume that his zombies are made from dead bodies then, not from live grafting. Looks like electricity may play a part also, assuming those are generators in the background. Not much else in his lab to give away his secrets ... yet.
Confirmed with this better scan: zombie-frankenstein does indeed have a scar on his chest (it's just a little bit lower than Zoro's scar though - near the stomach, not the collarbone). That blood pressure cuff on the zombie's arm could pass for a bandana in dim light too, don't you think? I can see it now: zombie-frankenstein rampaging through the mansion, encountering the Mugiwara. Their respnse : "Zoro! Where the hell have you been!" (While the real Zoro, shredded and bleeding after a fight, wanders through the halls of the castle looking for his crewmates, never bothered by the house-zombies because they think he's zombie-frankenstein instead) ... or maybe not.
This much I can say with certainty though: if the bottom half of Hogback's lab door was destroyed (page 8) by what I think it was destroyed by, then that Guardian has a cannon move that's at least as strong as Zoro's, if not stronger.

Hey guys i resized the chapter and cleaned it up a little. it's now 5MB instead of 20MB.
