While that's great and clear confirmation that Anthony leaving didn't slow anything down, I'm just gonna wait and see if they intend to continue releasing them in 12 episode chunks or try something different with their digital releases.

I definitely think it's possible; but judging by CR's slowing of the sets, it seems like they just don't want to.
-
I got Collection 33 today. On one of the the blu ray disc there was a giant smug on the disc and it was skipping a bit during the opening song of the first episode. I was able to the fixed the disc by cleaning the disc with a microfiber cloth and I was able to finished disc 1 of Collection 33. I don't know if it just me, but I notice ever since Crunchyroll took over the home video release the quality have been going down. Because I noticed the discs are getting smugs and scratches a lot more then before the merge between Funimation and Crunchyroll.
-
Maybe they want to catch up next year because there's a bigger marketing moment to do it during the 25th anniversary of the anime.

Speaking of I thought this was rly cute if nobodys seen it https://fxtwitter.com/OP_Netflix_Fan/status/1733876114253332748

Probably some glitch, the latest collection is pricing at $13 on Amazon.
Limited-time deal: One Piece: Collection 32 - Blu-ray + DVD https://a.co/d/1HYIg2V
-
@Zephray Dude, thanks!! Just grabbed it.
I looked and the rest of the Collections are discounted too, but this one is the cheapest by far. What a steal.
-
I’ve never seen one price that low. Feels like a mistake, lol. Especially for it being a new set.
-
Season 13 Voyage 6 is coming out on March 12th.

Wow..... another box set with no special features... no commentaries.... really makes it hard to justify supporting the physical release, especially when I already pay for Crunchyroll... its also hard to stare at an incomplete collection, but idk, I might be done buying these (at full price at least).... I guess the special features have been sacrificed for the speed up, not the worst trade off, but kinda a bummer, as I always looked forward to them on earlier releases
-
Glad they're moving relatively quickly on these, despite the rest of CR's physical releases slowing down so considerably (No Chainsaw Man or Mob Psycho III still).
-
One Piece and Dragon Ball are pretty much the only series that I been getting of Funimation/Crunchyroll (Waiting for Gundam: Witch from Mercury). Now, I mostly been getting Discotek stuff, since they've been getting more of the stuff that I'm interested into lately then Crunchyroll.
-
Exactly. I stopped buying them full price when the price shot up $10. I’ll buy them only when on sale for <$20 in the future. It was too costly to triple dip with the digital release, voyage, then collections, as much as I want to support the dub in the states. They lost me when the price shot up and they bought all their competition.
-
I pretty much, I just switched to collection went they raised the price of the voyages. Plus for awhile the collections were coming out a month after the Voyage set that complete set. I rather just wait and the get the collections now then get the voyages.
-
@Zephray Yeah, that price is bonkers.
Even with shipping costs, It's £14 on the UK site... while the local DVD-only release is £30. -
So we have confirmation that at least some voice actors are recording lines from current episodes? :o
-
@G1Ravage
Yes. -
So with the huge news of a brand new anime owned by Netflix, there’s no way the dub will be done by CR. Do we think they’ll have the live action cast, who is already under contract, dub the anime? That’d be wild.
-
@Zephray Such decisions are more than likely up to the One Piece Production Committee and not Netflix.
-
@Zephray I dunno, I think it could go either way. Obviously we heard Mayumi Tanaka in the teaser, so the Japanese version doesn't seem to be recasting. Marvel's What If and the Scott Pilgrim anime have made me apprehensive about live-action actors attempting the same performances in animation. But it would be funny for Emily Rudd to say "subs, not dubs" in interviews and then end up dubbing the Japanese actors anyway.
I imagine that Toei would have the final say, and it would make sense for them to want consistent English voices. We don't know what their relationship is with Crunchyroll now, so maybe there is an existing agreement for Toei to commission dubs from CR? But then there could be issues with CR being non-union...
There's also a third option that suits no one, but sure would be cheap: hiring soundalike voice actors to copy the LA cast.

Nonooo I hope what happened with Pokemon's cast change doesn't happen again.
-
I feel like logically toei would push to keep the cast, considering the rigorous process to even cast them in the first place but. Theyve made more baffling decisions.

Plenty of big animated films come out every year with big live actor actors voice acting. The problem with SP Takes Off was bad directing, which, to be fair, gets better as the series continues. I’d prefer the CR dub to a new one, but I wouldn’t be shocked by a new cast.
-
It’s perhaps unsurprising that Netflix saw the live action show do so well and wanted to bank on it by doing something else with the property. I’m totally betting it was them who went to Toei with a pitch for something new, and now they’re all just cashing in on the recent hype & popularity.
-
I personally wouldn't be surprised if this new anime is pretty much just a Anime version of the Live Action series, so all the events and changes that happened in the LA version from the original Manga/Anime happened in this new adaptation.
Otherwise I am seeing this as more of a DB Kai situation where they make it a lot more condensed.
As for the cast, I too have considered the possibility of the Live Action cast playing their characters in this new Anime (and it would make it even more funny if my theory is correct and they have this new series as an Anime version of the Live Action series)
However, the vast majority of the CR cast of OP are union qualified anyway, so they could still return (not sure if they will since they are obviously busy doing the OG series anyway) though if the sub cast is returning, it would make sense for the dub cast to return as well. Being an ONA rather than a Simulcast/Simuldub should be a lot easier to handle dubbing. Plus since the CR cast returned this year to dub the Black Clover movie even though that was union and handled by Netflix, there is no doubt in my mind that they are indeed able to get the OP CR cast back since the majority of the Black Clover cast are in One Piece.
-
Oh yeah, thats true! That makes me a lot more hopeful tbh.
-
I’m hopeful the FUNimation dub cast will reprise their roles in the remake. The cast of the live action is not a good fit for the anime.
-
Oh god. The thought scares me. Iñaky and Sanji's actor reprised their roles in the Latin American dub of the Live Action Remake and though they eventually got the hang of it, they REALLY shouldnt do the anime remake.

Of course, but I'm specifically referring to actors using the same performance between live action and animated versions of the same character. It's a more subtle problem than an actor just being inexperienced with voice acting.
-
Really wonder why Bowling left CR. He’s volunteering himself to dub this new Netflix remake.
-
Wants to go union maybe (the new show no doubt will be).
-
I guess it could just be his watch through? but it would seem to imply and line up with other production stuff that hes done recording wano https://x.com/dbaughactorman/status/1737281060478546018?s=46&t=Kq3IHPuSvKT2MXKx8HKScQ
-
That’s clearly in his house. I think he’s just a fan.
-
Pictures dont always have go be related, and we know they’re more or less caught up anyways, so. Granted considering that may’ve been redundant to say in the first place lol.
-
s14v13 is available on the Microsoft store

Holy cow. The pricing went up to $36.99.
-
What makes this significant is the later episodes from this set (1046-1048) all aired earlier this year and we're getting them dubbed just before 2023 wraps up. This makes us 40 episodes behind as of this post. Absolutely wild.
-
I think they’ve lost me with this insane price increase. $40 to get twelve episodes three weeks earlier than streaming is not worth it at all. I want to support the dub, but I’m not keen on them taking me for a ride.
But if I save money here, I guess I’ll start buying the Wano bluray sets when they start releasing in a few months.
-
@Zephray yeah im with you there, looks like i will just to stick to streaming for now
-
yeah thats. oof. i already found them overpriced so ive been buying the SD versions instead, which only increased by $3 here, but I’m still nor sure I want to go for it. This whole release strategy just seems more and more anti-consumer.
-
It sounds like Mark Stoddard is the voice of Saul again
-
Glad to have the newest batch out just before year's end.
-
Caved and bought it and he does a pretty good job actually. Close enough voice to Cole, though not nearly as distinct. Only part I’m kinda disappointed by is the laugh.
-
Also cast Chris Sabat as Ushimaru despite. not being Kazuya Nakai in the original. and being confirmed to not be related. Idk how I feel about that. Guess they did the same thing with Tashigi and Kuina. Weird pattern.
-
We're a mere 40 episodes behind Japan. I really hope they Simuldub. For them to do that, they'd have to get Toei Europe to let them release the entire dub digitally for the UK, and I don't know they would allow it. You can't access the dub here digitally whatsoever as far as I'm aware. Please can someone in the know correct me if I'm wrong? I don't think you can even buy it in that format. Only on disc. They could simply restrict the Simuldub to regions that allow it to stream - makes no difference to me, as I have a VPN. Exciting times lie ahead.

@Blake-Bakes-Cakes
I mean, great-uncle is a relation. Not too far off. -

We technically can. Microsoft Store has the dub from the beginning until the Chopperman episode (after the CP9 arc), for upwards of £30 per Voyage. Stampede was also dubbed on Netflix for a bit.
But yeah, the DVDs are the only widely accessible copies, and that's pretty weak in
20232024.
