I'm also glad that Biden pulled the attack ads while Trump is in the hospital. While I don't like Trump, there is no need for his political opponents to sink down to his level during this time by airing them. I also personally never liked attack ads anyway.
American Politics: A Brand New Day

-
Yeah, I think it's a good thing that Biden seized his attack ads. It's not good to kick someone when they are down, plus it will show that Biden is being the better person, as I'm sure Trump would not do the same for Biden, but at least Biden has the sense to be respectful. Though I agree with Kaba Kaba Fruit, I think it be better if politicians instead of using attack ads would actually have ads that show their plan to change the nation. I'm not sure what kind of ads Biden has, but it be great if he talked about his plans for the nation and how to fix it instead of the whole "I'm better than Trump" thing. Though I did like the ad I got in the mail by Biden, where it told me how to do mail-in voting in my state.

So have anyone saw this:
I wish I could say what's the deal with religious people and discrimination of those that don't fit their program and hear a Seinfeld laugh track, unfortunately, reality is often disappointing.
Oh hey, it's showing she has ties to that exact thing I'm terrified is going to happen.

Biden's national lead over Trump jumps to 14 points after debate in new NBC News/WSJ poll
Joe Biden's lead has nearly doubled since Tuesday's debate with voters saying by a 2-to-1 margin that he has the better temperament to be president. -
Note that those polls were taken BEFORE the covid announcement.
Hard to tell if thats going to give him a sympathy bump rally or crash him even further. Probably depends on which side of the aisle you're on.

Saturday Night Live's version of the debate:

Hard to tell if thats going to give him a sympathy bump rally or crash him even further. Probably depends on which side of the aisle you're on.
I hadn't thought about that. Still, I think this does go towards the argument of whether or not it was a good idea to pull the Trump attack ads in the wake of the COVID announcement, since that's the same kind of attitude that got Biden this boost.
-

I don't think many people outside of his cult are going to feel bad for him.
There's a huge group of Republicans and independents who may be shaken by the sudden mass outbreak of COVID in the White House and Congress. If they aren't, they're not going to feel bad for him because they'll just assume that he'll be fine because it's "just the flu".
If they are, they'll lose faith in him as a leader.Every single day he's visibly out of work hurts him, and if he's absent too long his cult will look for other hateful right-wing extremists to worship.

Again, Rin, the polling this year looks almost nothing like it did in 2016. Biden’s lead over Trump has been steady and strong for almost the entire year, whereas Hillary’s in 2016 was much more volatile and unpredictable.
Especially considering that Trump is an incumbent, this looks really horrible for the president.
And don’t forget that pollsters learned a lot from their failings in 2016. One such thing they did was fail to discern between white voters based on their education background. The polls this year are much more reliable than they were in 2016, and all signs continue to point to Trump having a really rough, uphill battle before him this time.

Yeah, I agree with you. The pollsters really did not poll on people without an college degree, which were the main voters that voted for Trump back in 2016.
-
Also if not for doctors right now Trump would be dead. He is dying right now and they are on their last resort drugs for him.
Besides the fact the polls are nothing like they were 4 years ago, we have a President Trump that might not make it to election day.
Make sure to vote obviously but this election is done. The Trump camp knows it. The doomsaying needs to stop. He is not going to live forever as an immortal god president. He is going to die because he is a weak stupid old man.
-
The only thing I fear right now is Trump dying and becoming a martyr for the alt-right.
-
I wish I had y'alls optimism, I really do.
-
I wish I had y'alls optimism, I really do.
I wouldn't necessarily call it optimism. It's just that you're being extremely negative about everything in comparison to everyone else. I understand the mindset of not getting too confident because of what happened in 2016 but that isn't a reason to completely shut out anything that looks positive and expect the worst possible outcome for every situation.
-
I think the main issue is that Rin has a lot more to lose than the majority of us. She's definitely more afraid of a second term than a lot of us are, and for good reason.
But, yeah, I do think that she's also being fantastically pessimistic.
Personally, I'm really happy that both Harris and Pence seem to have avoided getting infected. I look forward to the VP debate, because I'm sure that Kamala is going to whoop that guy's ass.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I also want to come right out and say that a conservative majority supreme court isn't the worst thing that can happen to the US.
We've had one before, and it's one of the reasons why RBG became known as the "great dissenter". Sometimes it takes shitty rulings from the judicial branch to show the legislative branch how they need to make their laws more foolproof, harder to twist and misinterpret when they do get reviewed in court.
There are several instances of how RBG's dissents led to more rigorous and progressive legislature from congress. If I had the time, then I'd look them up right now, but if you are interested in learning more for yourself then I suggest watching the documentary video on her.
-
As someone that has a lot to lose for the same reason, I am not as scared of Trump's chances here because it's just doom porn here not to face reality.
And yeah I am going to say LGBT rights are most likely not in danger with this court. Maybe even abortion will be fine. Gorsuch and Roberts already sided with the liberals on a case that directly effects trans folks. Hell Gorsuch wrote the opinion there. And sure it's more or less "if you want to get rid of gays and trans people, write a law doing that instead of expecting the court to ban LGBT people" and I hope I don't have to explain why a law like that will never ever be made nor pass.
Campaign Finance Reform and Voting Rights are most likely in the gutter though with this court if that bigot lady gets on there. Which is not looking as fully certain now actually.
Good thing Nancy finally wished hard enough for Trump and the GOP senate to all die from covid. I was worried there for a moment she would not do something helpful. Though she needs to wish harder to ensure ACB stays off the court.
-
What about the senate? What are the odds this is actually going to be a blue wave this time? I'm hearing good things, but I can never be certain.
-
I remember all the people on this site who said the election was over after the pussytape got leaked. And said the Comey letter was an ineffective smokescreen.
We haven’t even gotten to Barr’s october surprise yet.
-
There really might not be one. Or if there is, it probably will not make a dent. Nothing has so far. Trump was already far behind before he got Covid.
Like I know everyone wants this to be 2016 where Trump barely won but the reality looks like he is going to lose by a lot. Missing weeks of campaigning in the last month is a sure fire way to lose.
Also this race is fully about Covid and Trump has been garbage about it to the point he has it. If you lose on the most important topic, you lose.
-
Comey's letter only made an impact because the entire media had spent months making political hay out of the emails subject; there's nothing remotely approaching that situation with Biden despite numerous attempts by rightwing and "left"wing media to the contrary. That's largely because the media doesn't hate Joe Biden the way they did Hillary.
-

Well, I'm a trans female like Rin, but I'm not even worried even if Trump won, it's not like I'm gonna be put in a concentration camp or anything. And since I'm guessing Rin faced way more transphobia than I did, I guess she's super worried about being persecuted because of who she is. So, I can understand her fears at least a little bit, though these past four years I was not affected by anything of Trump involving LGBT stuff. Not sure about her though. Just my perspective.

Honestly, what is the truth about the e-mails with Hillary actually and why was it such a big deal anyway?
-
Clinton/Trump.
Biden/Trump.
Note that the new scale is zoomed out more because Biden occasionally goes to 50-52% and Clinton never topped 50.
Yeah at the end of the race it looked like Clinton had a lead but that was a volatile thing the whole time with Trump passing her a few times along the way, and was within the margin of error in swing states. Trump hasn't been within a league of Biden since Biden became the nominee.
History is not repeating itself.
Honestly, what is the truth about the e-mails with Hillary actually and why was it such a big deal anyway?
The entire deal is she used a private server to send emails that were mildly classified after she sent them.
The server wasn't unsafe, it wasn't hacked, the stuff that was classified after the fact wasn't national security, literally nothing bad happened because of it.
There is no but. There is no except. That's it. That's the entire story.
She did basically nothing wrong. But republicans had nothing on her, so they basically made it up to try and make a case that she had broken the law. (They also tried with Benghazi and 30+ sham investigations.)
It'd be like if you got a speeding ticket seven years ago and then someone spent a year insisting you were a reckless driver endangering lives on a regular basis always at risk of having massive accidents..
Note that the entire GOP has done the exact same (and worse) with sending government emails privately and exactly zero hay has been made out of it.
-

Hmmmmmm wonder why.

Trump decided to take a joy ride around in his limo, putting secret service at risk just to entertain his cult waiting outside the hospital for him.
Meanwhile today I went to the doctor because I've been incredibly sick all weekend, and they refused to test me for COVID because I've "only" been sick for 3 days, while still telling me to treat it like I have Covid and they'd test me if I was "still the same" in a few more days(I ended up getting tested at another place later on in the day).
The fucking privilege abused from the GOP with this is just pure vomit inducing. I hope they all fucking die of COVID.
-

I have to say, trying to kill your Praetorian Guard is a novel way to resolve the Roman emperor's dilemma.
-
Clinton/Trump. Both candidates hit 44% multiple times in a roller coaster.
https://i.insider.com/57bf1c8ab996ebef008b479e?width=1200Biden/Trump. Trump has never gone above 42 and Biden has never gone below 46 and they've been on straight lines.

Yeah, looking at these two graphs from side to side, I can really see how things really are, thanks for sharing this.
The entire deal is she used a private server to send emails that were mildly classified after she sent them.
The server wasn't unsafe, it wasn't hacked, literally nothing bad happened because of it.

Well, damn. Here I thought she actually she something wrong regarding these e-mails, but it was all just some huge conspiracy against her. I mean having a private server is way more secure than using like gmail or hotmail. It doesn't really feel that insecure. (Wish I had my own server too, but too poor for one ;-;)
Also, what was up with Benghazi too? Was she at fault for the people getting killed or it was another way to make her look bad?
It'd be like if you got a speeding ticket seven years ago and then someone spent a year insisting you were a reckless driver endangering lives on a regular basis always at risk of having massive accidents..

That's actually a good analogy. Thanks for explaining it to me!
-

A terrorist group attacked a US embassy on the other side of the world during a riot and two men died. They immediately beefed up security afterward worldwide.
But Clinton was secretary of State so obviously that was entirely her fault.
Sure 9/11 happened on Bush's watch, and Trump has killed 250,000 from Covid, but those aren't remotely as serious.
-
Just to be clear, there are a lot of private servers that have worse security than gmail. Yes, private servers can be much more secure, but only if they are managed correctly.
I think that the bigger problem most republicans had with Hillary’s private server is that she could not produce all of the stored emails under subpoena because she had destroyed the records after the fact.
But, that all goes to say that they still would probably not have turned up anything of note even if they had been produced. It’s probably best for all public servants to do all of their work on their provided servers. The security there is so much better, and they don’t personally have control of the records if and when they are needed to perform audits and investigations.
-

Well, even if Trump survives, I'm pretty sure Chris Christie, at the very least, is probably going to die from it.

Yeah, I get it now.
Just to be clear, there are a lot of private servers that have worse security than gmail. Yes, private servers can be much more secure, but only if they are managed correctly.
That's true. I wonder how Hillary and other politicians actually got their own private servers… I mean why do they even use them if there's a chance of it not being secure?
I think that the bigger problem most republicans had with Hillary’s private server is that she could not produce all of the stored emails under subpoena because she had destroyed the records after the fact.
Yeah, I see. That makes sense. Though they should have been able to uncover them even if they are deleted as it should be still on the system. Like on pcs, you can delete stuff, but it isn't truly deleted.
But, that all goes to say that they still would probably not have turned up anything of note even if they had been produced. Yeah, I agree. Just do all your work on the provided servers as they are handled by people that know how produce good security.
-
Yeah, I see. That makes sense. Though they should have been able to uncover them even if they are deleted as it should be still on the system. Like on pcs, you can delete stuff, but it isn't truly deleted.
No. Like, she literally had the records destroyed by microwaving and smashing the hard drives.
Yeah, I agree. Just do all your work on the provided servers as they are handled by people that know how produce good security.
Yeah, that’s the best way.
-
Wonder how in an alternate reality, President Clinton would have handled her part in assassinating Epstein. :ninja:
-
No. Like, she literally had the records destroyed by microwaving and smashing the hard drives.
WTF!? Why the hell did she do that for x.x No wonder why the Republicans acted the way they did.
-
Hmmmmmm wonder why.
I'm sure misogyny played a role in it but there's also the simple fact that they really hated Al Gore as well and were pretty open about it then and since; the media's contempt for the Clinton Administration and those connected to it has been there for decades.
-
WTF!? Why the hell did she do that for x.x No wonder why the Republicans acted the way they did.
Yeah, all the "BUT HER EMAILS!!!!111" mockery kind of ignored the fact that Hillary's actually a pretty sketchy figure.
Of course, the people complaining about her emails were ignoring a whole lot more from Trump at the time…
-
That's the thing, for however much Clinton was sketchy, Trump was sketchy times a hundred. And I think that's where the "but her emails" mockery came from. I've heard time and time again people saying pre and post 2016 election "Clinton scared me", "Clinton is a liar"… Those same people being Trump supporters. I'm just like "WHAT?!". How can they think that of Clinton but not Trump?!
This is the cult of personality surrounding Trump now. No matter how rotten it is shown he is, it's still Hillary Clinton that needs to be locked up.
-
@Johnny:
Wonder how in an alternate reality, President Clinton would have handled her part in assassinating Epstein. :ninja:
I thought we all agreed she did it.
-
I thought we all agreed she did it.
Clinton don't have the staff to do it, on the other hand Elisabeth has double-o seven's galore to sent to protect her problem child.
-
In retrospect, neither Trump nor Clinton could be seen as integral candidates to lead the nation for the next four years but the entire political process was caught in its own web and the people HAD to make a choice between the two and that meant a LOT of mudslinging for the purposes of propping up one candidate at the absolute expense of the other. It was pretty much organized hypocrisy from both sides and arguably the biggest reason why the 2016 presidential election was such a dog's breakfast!
-

Sure 9/11 happened on Bush's watch, and Trump has killed 250,000 from Covid, but those aren't remotely as serious.
You also missed the part where Republicans slashed the state department’s funding in the months leading up to that which could have been used to hire more security but you know how the Republican mantra of doing more
with less (or nothing) works.Also
Clarence Thomas is still an dumbass who doesn’t understand history
-
Yeah, all the "BUT HER EMAILS!!!!111" mockery kind of ignored the fact that Hillary's actually a pretty sketchy figure.

Yeah, honestly they were both sketchy figures to me in their own ways. Clinton the "smart" sketchy and Trump the "dumb" sketchy kind. Honestly both bad anyway, so it was choosing who was considered less worse to you. Unless you voted third party, but in 2016 they were just as bleh.
@Kaba:

Well, there were others one could have voted for in 2016, the two other parties Green and Libertarian, or even write in if you hated all the candidates. (Though I wouldn't even know who to write in, so I choose between the ones that are valid and available.)
Alito and Thomas call for Obergefell to be overturned:
What's Obergefell?
-
Gay marriage .
-
-
Yup, this is where it begins.
I'm still relatively positive Roe v. Wade will be first, but then will come Obgerfell, then Lawrence v. Texas.
Hell, maybe they'll go after Brown v. Board of Ed given enough time.
Why not make their on version of the Sharia Law then? The right wing wants so bad to be a theocracy I find odd they haven't come up with one yet.
-
Frankly, I'd be more worried–in the short term--about Trump killing himself and everyone around him via COVID before November. A reminder, Herman Cain caught COVID and died about a month later. Trump is, at best, perhaps a week or two in and leaving the hospital. This is going to be a disaster.
-
Why not make their on version of the Sharia Law then? The right wing wants so bad to be a theocracy I find odd they haven't come up with one yet.
That's the end goal the religious wing of the right wants. The thing is: Not ALL of the right is as fundamental as the rest, some are just power hungry shitheads and How much can they get away with how fast? They have to do this very slowly in stages so that people can't see what's happening until it's too late.
-
I heard the other day, and I keep hearing today that Trump would be released today, in a couple of hours, doesn't really seems like 4 days will do the trick, especially if he's going to be quick-tested for the next debate.
