Can the title be changed to Chapter 987? My bad
Oh man break again next week
Great double page at the end really nice artwork.
Really sets the stage for next chapter for Kaido to get absolutely destroyed.
Why did Stephen translate "dawn" as "daybreak" in Kinnemon's speech?
And I suppose that "I'll show you the greatest army in the world" is the literal translation instead of "i'll show you what it means to be the strongest in the world"?
Epic, for years, was a very overused phrase on the internet, especially concerning anime or anything action oriented. I think this chapter safely can handle such an adjective. I think there will be some unhappy people since Kaido has a couple wounds, but I'm very satisfied with this chapter.
I really do love Wano as a setting. The arc has not been as emotionally effective to me as I'd like it to be, but I still like it.
An entire Mink army and the Scabbards against Kaido, that is certainly hype.
Overall, I loved the chapter.
Bound to be some unhappy campers, not much to do about that.
Yamato not Stanning the scabbards adds more likeability points for me.
Daybreak, huh? Wonder why it's not Dawn?
Cant wait for the ensuing wreckage coming the Mink's and Scabbard's way.
Queen remains to be the greatest character in One Piece is all I got from this chapter hahaha
The samurai continue to get more badass by the chapter. But like, I don't expect them to last over a hit. Kaido fodderized a Gear 4 Luffy in human form. They might all legit die right up there, their will for Wano passed to Luffy as proper samurai with a fitting end.
Teamwork will always be the key to beating “impossible” enemies. Scabbards will weaken Kaido and Luffy will jump in at the end for the final blow! Soooo good.
Also Ulti got a nick name!!
I don't think that Kaido's line about an army makes sense.

She's moving up in the world. Can't wait until she becomes a Grand fleet Captain:ninja:

In the original he talked about military strength, not personal strength.
Also, did you notice you wrote tour question in portuguese?
Edit: oh, you fixed it, lol.
for my english knowledge, is it really common to use the word hide for skin ? or is it that Stephen wanted to use an animal term on purpose ?
I didn't notice that Kinemon is closing an eye on the last panels we see him. And it seems all the scabbards have injuries from their previous fights. I don't know if it will penalize them on their battle against Kaido
And I hope next chapter will be more strawhat centered since we need them to enter the action too after their captain word
Reading it with the official translation always makes a world of difference. Always clears up a thousand simple things and leaves a few what does that word choice mean type of questions. Like at the end does Kaido refer to his beast crew as the best military in the world or what is he talking about? The phrasing makes it sound like he's not talking about his own power

Your thinking to small my friend, she’s obviously the next crewmate :ninja:

Oh… nononono thats still too small... Ulti Piece:ninja:
For some reason this chapter had some pretty hilarious moments. Big Mom being all like ''Kaido, you dead?'' and Nami and Carrot just basically saying ''Fuck it, let's escape.'' like it's nothing really made me laugh. Probably because of the contrast with all the serious epicness going on.

I suppose it didn't make sense to keep her captured since she's also going Sulong anyways.
And I don't think the other Musketeers are going to attack Kaido directly, judging by how small Kaido looks in there, it seems like they aren't on top of the Skull like the Scabbies, they're just outside to watch the moon.

They said they expected Kaido to fight in an open area, that's why the Minks are there to begin with, they were waiting for him. Kaido even acknowledges their presence.
Y'know that thing the yakuza boss does when he takes his arm out of his sleeve, it's just an interesting visual. That visual and the body language reminds me of those old Zatoichi/Sanjuro movies.
In the original he talked about military strength, not personal strength.
Interesting.

Yes, LOL

uhm kinda wonder if they all "fly" like Carrot, cause you know Kaido is in dragon form atm.

Also keeps them from being stuck in "Damsel in Distress" mode until someone rescues them, which is always nice.

I expect that of them, especially in Sulong form.
Countdown to Kaido's tragic backstory! When are we getting that?
He.. he's gonna get one, right? He complains a lot about "pirate betrayal" and is far too suicidal to not have issues. Big Mom got a lil dissociative disorder cannibal thing; you can has a little tragedy too, Kaido. As a treat.
So i guess next chapter will mostly be about the alliance kicking ass. Then around the last few pages there'll be some jobbing by the minks and scabbards, maybe Zoro will be bothered by a crab neck or something
I read the chapter as this track was playing on on the background and it fit so well:
I didn't mentioned it before, but, man, I loved Linlin going all "you people are so lively! Is Kaido dead? :D"
Ole' Kaidou hyper beaming the moon sounds cool and all(as some fans around the community has memed about), but I think him summoning storm clouds to block the moon sounds more logical.
Now, I'm going to make a prediction based on a whole lot of nothing, but here it goes:
Kaidou will block the moon, preventing the Minks Su Long moment
However, in the second climax of the Wano Arc, the Minks will use Rumble Balls to access Su Long… So Chopper for MVP:ninja:
No but seriously, I wanna see kaidou wreck some folk
I think he's gonna just beat them all straight up. Just because defeating all nine red scabbards + the entire mink tribe in Sulong at the same time would probably be the most ridiculous display of power we've seen in the entire story. No more complaining that Kaido doesn't live up to his hype!
The final spread is just utterly gorgeous. Gives off an Eastern painting vibe.
The Kaido kneeling spread is very nice to look at too.
Again, not a fan of Kaido getting hurt this early, but it seems like he already regenerated and it's plausible that he did.
Can't wait to quote some controversial users and their misguided comments here next chapter.
Personally i find it more impressive when he survives taking legitimate wounds rather than when things just bounce of his hax skin. Has more weight to it when he just had a sword in his chest but he's still just sitting up like it was no big bother
Yeah, I think many of us were misinterpreting how Kaido's incredible strenght works. He was never meant to be this untouchable monster that nobody can even scratch. On the contrary, you can kick his ass all you want, he'll just get back up anyways. Just like Luffy. All villains are dark reflections of Luffy in a way, so I guess it's finally him to be the one yelling ''why won't you stay down!!!!!!!''
That's why Oda has no problem showing him on his back, screaming or bleeding. You can hurt him, but it just won't matter in the end.
Most characters are like that. Blackbeard is like that.
How is Kaido taking hits but getting back up unique?
If Big Mom and Kaido got isekai'd to our world, would our militaries be able to take them down?
The disappointment that Kaido can be hurt with "ryuo" is funny. Like why shouldn't Kaido be able to get hurt with that? I expect Big Mom to be able to get hurt with "ryuo" too.
Anyway, I expect the minks to wreck Kaido next chapter but I like the idea of him summoning clouds to block their view of the moon.
At first, i think minks gonna use sulong only to fight Jack for what happened at zou.
But now, they use sulong to fight Kaido.
So, i think everyone will fight Kaido at some point, minks all of samurai pirate etc, deal some damage, and then luffy comes in hit the final blow (not alone, of course).
So why doesnt the official translation translate Akazaya? It feels very random that its not.
I love each scabbards getting a lick in. And them falling together and crashing with 2 swords to his neck was great. I especially like Kiku putting the work in with Kanjuro and now Kaido's hand. She is reallly pulling her weight for a chick. Maybe the mask make Oda more willing to let her perform.
I still think Big mom has the best army. The long recap of Oden death was strange in a non tv show format.
I am really enjoying everything between Kaido and the scabbards confrontation. And am quite hyped.

Both good points that I'll consider.

I want them to HAVE Ryuuou. How fucking frightening would that be?

I see I still need to work on my English.

You may have misunderstood me. I want Kaido and Big Mom to have Ryuuou. ^^

So it's not just my writing but my reading too.
Anyway, I don't think Kaido and Big Mom need it. I mean, it seems it is largely something that was implemented into the story so characters like them can be hurt.

Indeed.
But it's also called "invisible armor".
for my english knowledge, is it really common to use the word hide for skin ? or is it that Stephen wanted to use an animal term on purpose ?
I think he wanted to refer to Kaido as a beast/monster because fighting him is like fighting a dragon even when he is in human form. You use an army and try to pierce the dragon's hide any way you can because dragonscales are like an impenetrable armor.
I also checked the Japanese and Oda literally just used the verb "pierce" because all you need in Japanese to make a sentence is a verb. Although in English you can also use only verbs to give orders like "Go" or "Stop." This is essentially what they're saying, using the command version of pierce.
Man, Oda has been on an absolute roll for the past few chapters. Everything from the end of the Oden flashback on has been good, but these past few weeks have been spectacular.
It warms my heart to finally see Jinbe hanging out with the rest of the crew on a colour spread after all this time. I'm a little disappointed he wasn't being saved for a special one of some kind, but it's still good just to see him.
After a little recap of Oden and Kaido's interactions, we have an interesting moment where the Scabbards' attacks actually pierce Kaido's skin. I've seen some debate as to whether the Scabbards (or at least three of them) actually have the same advanced ryuo technique Luffy learned, or if their blades only went in because Kaido's distress weakened him the same way Big Mom's grief did. But if you look back to the Big Mom scene, the amount of anguish it takes to lower her defences also has her in a complete mental blank, screaming and unleashing her conqueror's haki uncontrollably. Kaido is shocked here, but he hasn't been emotionally upset to nearly that level. So I think it's pretty clear this damage came purely from the Scabbards' own power.
I wonder if ryuo has anything to do with Kin's ability to cut fire, which hasn't really come up at all since Punk Hazard. Seemed like it was going to be a much bigger deal back then…
I appreciate that Nami and Carrot are shown to be so capable of getting away on their own, as if they were just biding their time while Big Mom claimed victory.
Kaido's little speech really ephasises how much more interconnected the story has become through the New World - and he doesn't even seem to know about the events on Fishman Island that rube-goldberd into his alliance with Big Mom. I've been in discussions about how best to classify and break up arcs and sagas but this really goes to show that there's no easy answer because the story's second half just isn't built the same as the first one, which the arcs/sagas system was really built for. As much as no one likes the overdone "New World" titling on the Viz volumes, in hindsight they actually hit pretty close to how the story's being portrayed from scenes like this.
Luffy's big declaration is a trademark One Piece moment that's wonderfully in-character and incredibly satisfying, and makes the perfect coutnerpoint to Kaido's talk of betrayal. I think he's gonna do it too, there's not going to be any Emperors getting away to be addressed in a future arc this time. It all happens here.
Some people think they see Hawkins with Law, but the outfit is wrong and the hair isn't long enough. And Hawkins still didn't seem particularly like he would change sides when we last saw him, even at Law's mercy. He plays the odds, and against the sheer power of Kaido and Big Mom, the odds are still against Luffy and co. It does reraise the excellent question of who freed law (probably Drake) and what is their endgame (when and how do they turn on Kaido).
Marco and Perospero is an interesting alliance. I have no idea how that was negotiated or what its impact is going to be...
Finally, Kaido heads for the rooftop in a paid of gorgeous spreads. I'm already absolutely certain the panel of Kaido's dragon form in front of the moon is going to be represented on volume 98's cover in some way (but I may be getting ahead of myself there - I was really hoping for a volume 97 reveal alongside the chapter but we don't even have that yet.) Having the minks waiting on the rooftop under the full moon was an incredibly dramatic touch. In a normal arc, I'd be expecting Oda to cut away from Kaido for a while so he can deal with his non-Luffy foes, but it'll be pretty upsetting to do that now and miss out on seeing everyone's Sulong forms. Oda better commit to this!
What's interesting about the structure at this point is that another potential cavalry option is being played seemingly too early. I think the assumed structure going into the battle was that Kaido would steamroll everyone easily, but then there would be a moment of reinforcement and troop rallying - Jinbe arrives, Marco arrives, Sulongs, a Big Mom betrayal - to lead into the final act, but it doesn't look like that's where we're going anymore. We're throwing everything we have at Kaido at once, and the endgame isn't going to be a recovery and a renewed charge, but most likely Luffy as the last man standing, capitalising on the damage done by everyone who fell in the group attempt to weaken the big boss. That feels a tad more stale than the alternative - it's not so different structurally from the Doflamingo fight - so it'll be interesting to see if Oda has a twist in mind, or if he's just planning to do the familiar thing but bigger and more explosively than ever before.
That one last comment from Oden saying; They Can forget me for all I care, my soul will live on.
it's like the total opposite of Hiriluk's famous phrase of 'you die until people forget about you'.
Makes me wonder if he actually made an acquaintance with Yamato, after all, there are some chunks of his fb still missing.
"With you, Yamato, I will be known as a sex god and as a sexy goddess at the same time!"
I think Marco's dicussion with Perospero lead to the latter now having a convincing argument to tell Big Mom to convince her to break the alliance and leave. Something more important than her revenge against Luffy, whatever that may be.
