He's too famous and expensive now, not to mention unionized.

Troy Baker pretty much only does union work now days. It was huge topic couple months ago when he didn't return to voice his character in the Borderlands series for Borderlands 3.
-
Has Bob Carter done anything with FUNimation recently? I am only about 50% certain they will get him back.
Minor roles like Kamakiri will be recast of course (Ahem - Scott Freeman)
Braham's voice actor Charles Baker, I have never even heard of, so hard to say if he will be there or not.
Lastly Wyper's voice actor J. Paul Slavens could potentially be recast as well, since just like Braham's, I have never heard of him, so not sure if they could get him back or notBob Carter and J Paul Slavens have both done voice work for Funimation relatively recently, and I'm not sure Braham or Kamakiri even had any dialogue in this special.
-
Very few recasts. As expected, Troy Baker and Laura Bailey did not return.
-
Wow, I am actually thrilled that Jill Harris was casted as Conis. I have always thought Jill and Laura have a similar voice tone.
-
A new director? Clifford Chapin. What’s he done?

Quite a bit.

Not exactly. Granted, Conis and Ohm are the only particularly noteworthy characters to be recasted here (from a voice acting perspective at least), but there is also Seto and 5 of the 6 animal characters listed with different actors.
-
That was fun. The dub is always more fun than the subbed for me, so I didn’t mind the clip show pacing as much as I originally did. Hearing Eneru and Wyper again was fun. Tatum is great.
-
How many episodes do you think they’re dubbing per week?
-
Just watched the special, it was way better than I remember it being when I watched the sub when it came out. For some reason I didn't mind the reused flashback clips this time around. And thank Eneru they changed the ending visuals for this; Namie Amuro with the PTS Strawhats was so weird, I much prefer the clip show from the special. And they kept the Ace Blackbeard part, which was the only cool part
-
Just finished my special. Most important (to me at least), Eneru got his laugh back for the entire special.
Most of the returning voices sounded great. Eneru, Cricket, Shura, Satori, Gedatsu, Gan Fall, Calgara…they never missed a beat. (In one of the blooper extras, you can hear Kent Williams watching Shura's fight with Gan Fall and saying, "I don't remember any of this." LOL)
It was better watching this in English. It was especially memorable, since the Jaya and Skypiea arcs were the very first episodes that FUNimation ever dubbed for One Piece. So they were all going back to their beginnings from 12 years ago for this special.
The other returning voices, such as Aisa and Noland, sounded quite a bit different to my ears. But it has been 12 years. I found it interesting that they chose to dub Nola's "hissing" to match the Japanese, but I liked his old English hissing better. It was cuter. The new hissing sounds too much like Caesar's laugh.
The new voices were suitable enough. Conis was fine. The new Ohm was really good. Almost sounded like Troy Baker.
All in all, I enjoyed it. Glad I bought it after all.
-
For a second I thought the trailer was for NEW EPISODES instead.
-
Time is a flat circle
-
Yes, and that makes it much easier to wait for Punku Hazardo.
-
So I’m betting they’re about forty episodes into dubbing DR right about now? Most weeks they can probably knock out the majority of three or four, and it’s been about ten weeks since they started working on it.
-
I had COMPLETELY Forgotten that Skypiea was the very first arc to be dubbed by Funimation.
-
You want a real mind fuck, go back and listen to that Jerry Jewel version of We Are that played in the Toonami airing of the knock up stream episode, well before Vic had recorded his version of We Are.
-
The lyrics are bad for that one… lol.
-
Why is Kaku singing the theme? Hah. That's weird. He isn't the worst, but Vic was a hell of a lot better.

Jerry Jewel was the video game voice of Kaku, but was replaced when FUNi eventually got around to dubbing Water 7.

I remember. Jewel still sounds like Kaku, and his performance in the video game is very close to what the replacement actor landed on. The clip of him singing just sounds like Kaku singing.
Trying to forget about it, but am pretty anxious to see the new episodes after so long. No speculation from anyone on when they’ll release? Voice actors have been pretty mum on their dubbing of OP; funimation must’ve buckled down in telling their cast not to say anything.
-
I am confused as to why they haven't even released any as of yet. I mean, they obviously have already dubbed all of PH (based on various tweets and information that came out ages ago) and should be knee deep into Dressrosa now. They could of at least given us the first 13 episodes of PH to get us through while they continue dubbing and putting together the episodes. They could release a batch of 13 every 1-2 months after that.
-
I don't think FUNimation is even sure of how they want to release the new dub episodes yet.
Previously, they would release one or two new eps just before a DVD release, and then release the rest via streaming soon after. If they were to release too many episodes via streaming now to hold us over, that could reduce DVD sales. But I don't think they're ready to release anything on home video yet. I think they're being held up over whether or not they'll be allowed to release these episodes on Blu-ray, and how many episodes they should have per set. Will they continue in the format of Voyage releases, followed later by Collections? If they go straight into Collections for the larger episode count, how will they handle the episodes from the end of Fishman Island that haven't been released in that format yet?
I don't think they're ready for anything. I think they were pressured by fans and by Toei to announce something by the 20th anniversary.
-
I think the streaming releases are going to stick—not just be one and done to tie us over. They release plenty of shows on streaming before DVD.
-
True, but those shows aren't One Piece, with a library of hundreds upon hundreds of episodes yet to be seen in English. For people who have already seen these episodes in Japanese, and merely want to experience the English version, I don't see a lot of them purchasing the DVDs or Blu-rays if they're already available for free (or subscription) online. Unless the DVDs or Blu-rays have some really nice extras this time around. I think releasing them on video first is better for FUNi's bottom line. But that's just a guess.
-
Probably, but they’re testing out FunimationNow as a first outlet. If they get a bump in subscribers when they release it, that may outweigh the extra few people who decide not to buy the DVDs because of it.
My suspicion? I think anyone who was going to stop buying the DVDs did so the moment funimation started releasing the episodes streaming same day as dvd release. And if that’s the case, the bump in subscribers is all net good. The people who were buying the DVDs will buy them anyways, especially if they release Blu-ray instead.

Did they say we would get new episodes this year, because 2019 is starting run out of real estate

I don't think they did. Only that new dub episodes were coming.

100% this. Probably it got internally delayed yet again for some stupid reason. Who the hell knows when we’ll see it. One would hope they’d release the snowy arc in December, but December is running out and companies don’t tend to like releasing things during the holidays.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
They announced on October 20th. Two months is a good bit. Certainly not “really soon.” March solicits come out on Monday, btw.
-
The impression I got from the announcement was that the episodes were going to be up on FUNimation Now before a physical release, so they could just drop the episodes out of nowhere. I don't know that FUNimation's ever done something like that before, but they could be up tomorrow for all we know.

Geez, I can't believe it's been that long already. They sure love making us wait, don't they…
-
Unless they pull a Christmas surprise (unlikely), it looks like 2019 will be a full year of no new dubbed One Piece episodes.
-
Geez. They really are dragging their feet on this. To be fair, if they upload all of Punk Hazard, I'll cut them some slack.

They won’t. They already said they’re only going to upload the first thirteen episodes, four of which are filler.

I just can’t support the games anymore; those PW games are just so terrible imo. Wish they made more Unlimited games, though.
And good news for Stampede, though of course we’d all prefer episodes at this point. It’ll be fun to watch Stampede in Blu-ray at home!

They're not terrible if you like Warriors games. They're just for that specific audience

Sure. There will always be an audience for bad video games.
…sorry, couldn't help but troll.

Lol sure they're far from masterpieces, and repetitive as hell. But I've found them enjoyable from time to time, when you need an easy mindless kinda game

so at this rate, what are the chances the dvd releases even start dressrosa by the end of 2020? Because we are now waiting on April just for the start of punk hazard…

I’m doubtful we’ll get anything in April. I wouldn’t expect news of DVDs to break until after they’ve released the episodes on their streaming service.
That said, I do expect the beginning of Dressrosa to arrive on streaming before 2021.
-
At least we know episodes are in production, I believe Clint Bickham has hinted they are on Dressrosa, please someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
