      @dropper:

      So One Piece live action is coming to Netflix, is there a chance we'll see the series, or even the films come too?

      This is seriously still a thing? Even with Oda overseeing it, I can't see it being good.

      Hey look, at least they're giving us another "soon".

      In October it was "really soon" now it's just "soon". We've downgraded my friends

      The impression I got from the announcement was that the episodes were going to be up on FUNimation Now before a physical release, so they could just drop the episodes out of nowhere. I don't know that FUNimation's ever done something like that before, but they could be up tomorrow for all we know.

      @G1Ravage:

      I don't think they did. Only that new dub episodes were coming.

      "really soon"

      which seems to mean something completely different in a business context…

      @Elektrik:

      interesting Funimation is going with Laugh Tale instead of Raftel.

      I wonder if they'll start to use that in anime proper, or continue using Raftel; it may be something they chose specifically for the movie since it was spelled out as Laugh Tale. Does anyone know if Laugh Tale is an Oda thing or just a Toei thing? I'm inclined to think it's an Oda thing, since it seems a bit too much of a transliteration for Toei alone.

      @Zephray:

      I really hated the trashy purple CGI, though, honestly. And the giant mecha form looked simple and dumb to me.

      Agreed, I dislike conspicuous CGI in 2D animation in general.

      Saw the movie earlier today, and had a great time. I was happy to see the theater had quite a few people in it, especially since only five seats had been reserved when I bought my ticket earlier this week. Rager was great as blackbeard, sounded enough like Cole Brown and different enough from Rager's Arlong. I thought Sengoku's new VA was good, for the short amount he spoke, sounded a bit different from Blaylock though. Sabo's new voice is great, better in my opionion, but I didn't have much of an attachment to the old one.

      ! The film's main appeal is the amount of secondary One Piece characters that not only appear, but also have a meaningful role in the film. Take that away and it's a pretty meh film in my opinion.

      @Zephray:

      -Hina sounded the same as I remember her, even though she was recasted. So good work to the new actress on that.

      I thought she sounded a bit different, but it's been a few years since I've heard it. I didn't realise she had been recasted until now though, I like the new voice.

      I don't know if it was poor audio mixing on Funimation's part or the sound system at the theater I went to, but I had trouble hearing a lot of the dialog over the film's music. Was this the case for anyone else?

      @Moriah:

      In Adult Swim's case it's due to their policy of removing an anime after its initial run and only airing it on Saturday night/Sunday morning, with no reruns during the weekdays.

      Didn't they rerun all of One Punch Man, twice, after its initial run? I don't think it's policy to remove a show, it's just usually in better interest to always be airing something new.

      I don't know that rerunning One Piece would be beneficial, but maybe if it got a Mon-Fri slot for reruns it could work. but even then. I'm not sure how well it'd work for a show with a format like One Piece (long running, heavy continuity)

      I haven't posted here in a while, but here's some of my thoughts about recent topics.
      I think a simuldub could work if it were 2-4 months behind the Japanese airing. I don't know if you could really consider that a "simul"dub, but I think it'd be the only way to maintain quality and consistency in something as big as One Piece. While I've sided with Funimation take their time and do home releases and not do a simuldub, a year and half gap with no official word of any kind is putting me in the simuldub camp.

      The lack of any word bothers me. There's not even an official "we are working on making season 10 happen" statement of any kind, and instead the question just gets ignored completely. With all the twitter posts, the podcast, etc. Funimation seems to be trying really hard to remind people that they have One Piece, despite no official word about the continuation of the dub.

      I'm glad to hear about 3D2Y. I wonder if this was dubbed recently, as something to hold the fans over during the supposed rights negotiations.

      @StrawHat96:

      If not, wonder who's replacing Ed Blaylock as Sengoku and Juli Erickson as Tsuru.

      I doubt Juli Erickson would be replaced, FUNimation tends to go out of their way to avoid recasting roles when possible, especially with One Piece. She was recast in MHA, because she moved away from Dallas and MHA is simuldubbed. It would've been difficult to keep her in the role.

      @Zephray:

      Huh. I wonder why.

      From what I read, it seems the agreement was a two-year contract and the decision to not renew was made by Sony, who aquired FUNimation about a year ago, and their ambition to make FUNimation a global dub and sub company. Thinking about it, One Piece dub releases kind of slowed down after the Sony acquisition, I wonder if that's a coincidence or not.

    • RE: Chapter 919: The Ruins of Oden Castle

      Wano's been a great arc so far, and this chapter was no exception. The time travel reveal makes Momonosuke's line about knowing Roger make sense. It's not the type of line Oda would put in for just a joke, but I never would have guessed the explanation. The questions I have now are the how/why of the time travel by the group. I also wonder exactly what was meant by "ghosts" in the previous chapter. The samurai as we have known them certainly aren't ghosts, at least not in the conventional sense.

      That One Piece 101 video I mentioned in my last post just came out. Its quality is consistent with the originals from what I remember. I can only assume we'll get ones for Franky and Brook soon too.

      In regards to hiatus the thing that makes it odd is that VAs tweeted about recording lines for late PH episodes quite some time ago (around the beginning of the year IIRC), so while the simuldubs may be slowing down the One Piece dub, they're not what's bottlenecking the releases.

      @Slappy402:

      I feel like that panel is our best bet for any sort of update, especially if Sabat Clinkenbeard and Christian are all going to be there. The description is interesting too… Color me cautiously optimistic.

      Seems like a typical panel description to me. I suppose if they're ready to announce season 10 and want to make a big thing of it, a One Piece panel at one of the biggest conventions in the country would be a good place to do it.
