New One Piece Movie "Stampede" (August 2019)

That took a dark turn.

People who watched it, is it explained why Buggy is blonde in the movie or he just is?
oh god grandpa, we are quite a long way from google you know?
going from the reply back to this post, I am literally tearing up

Well, I was going to give him a link, but not with that kind of attitude!

How was the movie version of Sankeman? Did they do something cool with it.
Also in general how was the action? Was the choreography good, or was it more like Film Gold where it was just short bursts of frenetic action?
Also, do the Straw Hats at least get 15 minutes together, with them just goofing off, similar to how Film Z started out?
! Snakeman looked pretty cool the snake punches all felt pretty impactful so I'd say they did a good job with it. I still don't get how King Cobra is supposed to be more powerful than a standard closed fist punch though.
! Action, while plentiful, is definitely what I'd consider short bursts. There isn't really a long, drawn out fight scene. The longest action scene without any cuts is probably when Luffy used Snakeman on Bullet.
Even the final battle is mostly a bunch of characters teaming up to do one or two attacks each while Luffy comes in for the final blow. Kinda like the Oars fight.
! The Strawhats goofing off section is all condensed in the opening credits. Once that's over, the action-packed Pirates Festival immediately starts. I'm kinda disappointed we didn't get to see more of the Strawhats having fun, but it's still a fun movie nonetheless. -
5.2 Billion yen
This is the final forecast for the movie, not its current numbers.

Singapore screening.
Not bad.
Spoilerless thoughts:
This had got to be THE one piece movie you have to turn your brain off the most. Get pass that and it was a fun ride.
Don't go in expecting much adventure.
It's pretty shallow but it was really fun.
Also, we really have to make a bingo list for OP movies in the future. Stop cramming Sabo in every movie already.
Fans can easily tear this movie apart and shred it to pieces like Zoro cutting steel if they want to.
Basically, a lot of flashyness, some moments that makes the movie a One Piece movie but mostly meh storytelling and terrible writing.
Spoiler:! Bullet is horrendously one dimension and atrocious as a villain. It's as if the one and only thing he had going for him is gold roger ex crew mate and honestly him having that title is an embarrassment.
It's a cheap marketing gimmick to hype him up and there is literally no reason to, for instance, compare him to rayleigh or make him such a beast.
With Shiki, it was reasonable but with Douglas Bullet, it's a mess.
Festa motivations is equally bad but he's so cartoon that you can't take him seriously.
! Bingo list for future movies:
-Sabo
-Cramming fan favourites like Hancock and Lucci(cool factor).
-Chopper appearing cute but actually does nothing.
-Fan service characters clashing with each other
-Villain wants to be Pirate King
-Villain has to be related to canon somehow.
-Navy ships + some marine characters
-Luffy ending his fights with I'm going to be Pirate King.
-Sunny uses flashy mechanic.
-Luffy getting beaten the first fight.
-Reusing jokes
! Maybe there's more but I'm not overly critical about this movie or judging it as the same tier as Strong, Z or even Gold.
I went in expecting nothing to make sense and well, it was fun despite it amounting to a 1h 30 minute long brawlfest with not much of an adventure.
In terms of plot and writing, it has to be one of the worst movies but in terms of fun and excitement(fanservice), it's up there.
Usopp's part got me but I felt like there's no need for him to apologize and that scene ruined everything and made me realize "oh right, I wasn't supposed to bother about writing in this movie".. but eh, they had to squeeze in something emotional like every movie. Can we just please get a sole adventure movie without half the entire one piece world appearing for once? And a story that doesn't shake the entire world or involve some super legendary dude?
Goddamnit. I wanted Dead End Adventure but I got an extended version of the Oars fight. -

Goddamnit. I wanted Dead End Adventure but I got an extended version of the Oars fight. To be fair, it was supposed to be a celeberation of 20 years of One Piece. That's why it had to include half of the entire cast that was considered popular.
But I agree with you, we definitely need a solid movie with legitimately good writing. There is so much potential to create interesting original stories in the One Piece world, that they have to do it at some point.
For example, I think a cool story they can make would be maybe having someone like Zoro lose his memories and reverting back to his Pirate Hunter days and the movie could be him against the Straw Hats.
Or just a story on an Interesting Island where interesting stuff happens to the Straw Hats. As long as they all get to hang out for an extended period of time.

Movie 4, Movie 6 and Film Z were all pretty well written.

Well Japanese people liked this way more than film gold, and it showed in the reviews and box office numbers, and film gold is considered an adventure story.
This movie is a celebration of 20 years of the anime, of course they're going to put all the popular characters that appeared throughout the series. You will also have character interactions that would never be possible in the manga, and its of nice to see amazing animated fight scenes considering that we rarely get them in the anime. Personally, I'm really excited to see it
-
Just got back from the Australian premiere and I loved it! There was such a great sense of community at the screening; it was a 1,000 seat event cinema and they had a full house. Everyone was applauding the fan favourites as they appeared, gasping for the big clashes and laughing at the character interactions. Maybe I'm still too stuck in the idea of One Piece being (in the English speaking world only) the underdog of the shonen heavy hitters due to the bad first impression the 4kids dub made, but I wasn't expecting such a big and enthusiastic turnout. Glad to see we've come so far!
I'm sure some people will strongly disagree, but I think Stampede was exactly the right way to do a One Piece movie. The adventure arcs in One Piece work because they aren't standalone things. The core stories of most canon arcs are formulaic, but they work because of the underlying lore and the way they introduce characters and concepts to the wider OP universe. Movies, which are inherently non-canon and disconnected from the main plot can't possibly emulate that, so they end up feeling flat next to their canon counterparts (not to mention the issue of Oda's storytelling being to wide in scope to fit in a movie's runtime). Stampede sidesteps this by being all action and all fanservice start to finish. It's great. Conversations and battles we can only dream of in canon came to life, characters I would never have in a million years guessed would escape the background of a movie had actual (though brief) speaking roles, and the team-up nature of the main fight with Bullet has me more convinced than ever that the end of Wano will be a co-op fight.
The movie also did a great job of capturing the chaotic energy of the manga. Oda draws a very motion-heavy kind of comic and often has multiple areas of action in a single panel, which gives the impression of lots of things happening at once despite the series' slow pace. The no-brakes action and constant need to scan the crowd shots for familiar faces and referential details was the closest the anime has ever come to properly replicating this (though Gold was a good effort). I can't wait for the blu ray to be out and see exactly how many characters people are able to find with the ability to freeze frame.
Spoilers about a certain romanisation below. Not sure if it's still meant to be under wraps here since I haven't checked into this part of the board for a while.
! I think we're the first English-speaking nation to get it, so people might be interested to hear that the subtitles did say Laugh Tale every time that particular name came up. That's not to say that it's official, I'm pretty sure they have local people working on releases such as this, since it was distributed via Madman rather than Funimation, but it may be an indication of whether or not we'll see a broader retcon.
Also on the topic of translation, they went with Clank Clank Fruit for Douglas's powers. Not certain if that one has come up already.
So yeah, tldr: saw it, loved it, want more

Yeah, his time was short but it was all pretty hype. Not sure how much spoiler you've seen or want but his last moment, where he clashes with a certian character, got a pretty big cheer even without anything more coming of it. He had more to do than about half the main crew throughout (falling behind only Luffy, Usopp and Zoro) so you shouldn't be too disappointed with his showing.

There you go, Not America (And with that I refer to all of America not just USA) and thus not a flop. There is a reason Australia kept going after USA stopped.

That's enough thank you… Still hope the next movie all of the SHs will be the main focus again.
Not that this will start to be a trend in movies like post TS in the manga to sideline them for other characters
-
tbh the ideal scenario would be Oda finding more time for core crew interactions in the main series and the movies get to do more of these "what if" type scenarios for characters who aren't able to cross paths in canon. Not that'd I'd complain about the next movie going back to more of a crew focus, but if this is what we're getting from now on I'm totally cool with it.

What's the usual budget for One Piece movies?
I tried to google it but no luck. Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', for example, had a 5 million dollar budget (according to wikipedia).

Apparently Broly's budget was 8.5 million.

Oooh Avex is releasing the soundtrack? That means it can actually be used in the anime?

Just watched it in cinemas, not my favorite One Piece movie - as stories all movies of the Film series are probably better - but the sheer spectacle was still great. My favorite part was the appearance of some minor characters that weren't even really teased, some even with speaking roles.
! Things that made me smile the most were probably that Galdino & Alvida got quite a few lines, seeing Jango & Fullbody actually fight, Bastille trashing Foxy, seeing the commanders of the Revolutionaries on Sabo's ship and all the friggin lines Morgans of all people got. Though I was a bit disappointed by how little Crocodile & Lucci did, they didn't really too much in comparison with others - they weren't even part of the final team attack.

With the exception of movie six, this one seems to have the best animation and art. And definitely the biggest budget. It’ll be great to see myriads of characters interacting, even if the story is just “beat the strong guy.”
-
I'll make a prediction that Film Z is still the best animated movie.(in order to be pleasantly surprised)

Can't wait to see this in theaters stateside! I remember Film Gold taking half a year or so to reach the states but now it gets here in 2.5 months after release in Japan! With the news of Sony merging Funi and Aniplex, I hope distribution continues to get better so content can be readily available in a much faster time-frame. It'd be so nice to watch future movies closer to release day where the hype and excitement is at its peak.

It was very interesting, the portrayal of Sanji was awesome.
Also Raftle = Laught Tale. Japanese pronouns the L and R interchangeably that's why we have known it as Raftle so far.
Fun Stuff, the movie would have been better if it came out after Act II of Wano and included everything that was covered in the manga thus far.! Especially the Haki part, it would've been more fun for Luffy to be attempting to master that advanced Haki until he finally gets it right instead of the usual 'spam gatling until enemy is down' which got used plenty of times already, factoring in the new haki would've made it more satisfying.
-

The real problem is the "Tale" part. For example, the "Tail" in Fairy Tail (different spelling, same pronunciation) is written as テイル, TE-I-RU. Raftel/Laugh Tale is written as ラフテル, RA-FU-TE-RU. It's missing that I's "ee" sound that would combine with TE to make the "tay" sound. Even with R and L switched, it'd still be something like "Laugh Tell".
-
Well yeah, but can't really blame him(Oda)/them(VAs) for romanization/pronunciation after Mariejois and 'Levely'.

I'll just roll with it and write/hear it like I want Just like Caesar 'Crown'

That's not really that simple, honestly. The official translator of OP to Brazil made a video on the topic and he explained that it goes both ways with the syllables. Even Fairy Tail plays on this ambiguity.
In fact, in the early days of OP scans, someone went wild and translated Laftel as "Rough Tale". He almost got it right, lol.

I just bought tickets to see this movie Saturday October 26th can't wait!!
