Aight my bad. I didn't see a "General Anime" section so I thought I'd toss it in here.
Apologies.

Many will say to get humanity off the Earth. While some idealists say due to 'unite mankind'
Why ?
And how is leaving earth "uniting" mankind ?
others will say its to ease the problem of overpopulation.
Isn't the problem of overpopulation consisting in feeding everyone ? And not a problem of actual space
One has to wonder, if we got all that from just going to the moon (which is basically in Earth's backyard), how much would come from leaving Earth's pull of gravity eniterely and traveling to another planet.
Part of these findings are useful, but it doesn't sound like it justifies a journey to Mars. Because it's the development of technology to go to the moon that made us find all these things. In other words, we could improve all of that without dumbly spending billions on a journey for Mars. BUT what pushed Americans and Russians to spend all that money was for the "cold war"; kinda.
Anyway, to put it simply, you're basically using the same argument people do for war "we've made a lot of progress in medicine and many other fields in technology and whatnot thanks to this war".
We could make findings in all the stuff mentioned in the article without spending billions for a journey to the moon/mars

The world population is always increasing it's number at a faster rate then food, specially enough food that one needs to eat per day.
We could make findings in all the stuff mentioned in the article without spending billions for a journey to the moon/mars
I'll make a bold assumption here and say 99% of every scientist disagrees with this. If you want to study the water, ice, rocks and lifeforms on Mars up close, you need to take some money in your hand and go there or bring it to you. And guess what, it's not your money.
We are able to go to Mars, so why not? It's the next logical step. It would be insane not to go. Asteroids can happen all the time.

France isn't still in the gilded age of almost zero real oversight of factories and industry, and experiencing third world levels of corruption.

There's also Jupiter's four major moons which are starting to look very interesting. Jupiter itself is obviously impossible, but it's moons are damn big.
Isn't the problem of overpopulation consisting in feeding everyone ? And not a problem of actual space
Yes and no. Yes overpopulation means a problem of food. BUT there is far more to overpopulation than just feeding everyone. No to "not a problem of actual space."
There is also congestion. The bigger the cities, the more 'urban sprawl, the more space is lost to those buildings. More buildings mean more congestion of urban sprawl. More people means more space needed to grow/raise the food, the more forests are cut down to either a)provide wood for buildings, b) make room for raising cattle, ect. The less space for forests, the higher chance of extinction for some species. Not to mention we can loose some plants that could be useful for medicine that hasn't been found yet.
We are able to go to Mars, so why not? It's the next logical step. It would be insane not to go. Asteroids can happen all the time.
You can't terraform a planet in a short period of time because of "asteroid threat to Earth". There is a LOT of extra factors to deal with.
Obviously, the best idea is to build clusters of space colonies around certain areas in the earth's orbit and call them "sides".

I… wasn't even talking about terraforming? Just a self-supporting base with astronauts and/or pioneers for the start. For research. And yes, among others, researching how to terraform. As you pointed out, it takes a long time, so the sooner we get there the better.
There is even water there.

How would you decide which would be Principalities?
I like floating cities on Venus as well. In the daylight band and above the clouds, aparently, temperature, pressure and gravity are earth like enough to be able to go out with a breathing mask.

Unless that "self-supporting" base has an amicable means of cycling oxygen and water continuously and said researchers don't kill each other due to martian madness or politics, then you've been watching "The Martian" and "Total Recall" too many times.

Thankfully, there seems to be no fatalities among the victims yet and the shooter is confirmed dead.
I was surprised the shooter was female. I wonder what caused all of this.

I'm hearing rumors spreading that her ex was working at the HQ, so it's just personal.
Anyway:
I uh….
...um.
So uh this was her deal I guess, and no this does not fit into just about any imagined profile you might have been thinking up.

Also topical, it sounded like she had a handgun, and y'know, not a goddamned machine gun.
Always a nice difference in of itself.

It appears Aghdam was a longtime animal rights activist. Nearly a decade ago, she took part in a demonstration organized by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California to protest the killing of pigs during a military exercise.
News accounts from the time said she carried a plastic sword and wore pants spattered with fake blood. "For me, animal rights equals humans rights," she was quoted as saying.
But by last year, she had turned to protesting YouTube. Her Facebook page shows a photo of her standing on a street corner in February 2017 with the heading "YouTube Dictatorship" and the message: "Hidden policy: Promote stupidity discrimination, suppression of truth."
In one Instagram video, Aghdam appears in a black hood and asks her audience: "When it comes to freedom of speech, do you think that Iran is better than USA or USA is better than Iran?”
According to her website, she had four YouTube channels — one in Farsi, one in Turkish, one in English and one devoted to making beaded necklaces.
something something GODDAMN SJWS
The "SJW gone wild" angle is more valuable for the press.
Youtube as a dictatorship? Surprise, Youtube is a corporation, it owes nothing to nobody, and shows little loyalty to those who depend on it.
Wow. This was all sorts of different. Which is sad in a way that this is the most surprising part of the shooting…
I'm surprised nobody focused On her being Iranian
The right wing might yet, her name is very obviously Middle Eastern even if most of them wouldn't know she was Iranian-American specifically.
But then again she clearly wasn't religious (heck not even sure if she was Muslim at all, plenty of Iranian-Americans are Jewish or some other thing), what with the the fact that she doesn't have a head scarf on in any pictures.
If she had a headscarf the right wing would definitely be going the racist angle, but since she doesn't I'm not sure if they will.

Yeah.
Honestly if you just gis her name and look at the photos of her you can tell something is off about her.
She has the same exact cold expression in like every single one.

Yeah I just saw part of her videos and photos. She seems…Off kilter.
So a crazy iranian vegan conspiracy theoriest (specifically with regards to Youtube), who felt personally attacked (discriminated against) when she got demonetized one time too many and decided to go on a killing spree?
Yep. That's unique. Are we aware of any confirmed mental health issues she had? Fits the crazy person with access to a gun problem that the US has had time and time again, but genderswapped for good measure.
EDIT: reminds me of a situation we had in italy a while back, where an angry businessman who'd lost everything in a courtcase walked into the high court in milan with a gun (because italians are lazy and didn't do proper metal detector screenings) and shot dead his lawyer, the key witness in his case, and the judge. People will do the most evil things when they feel like they've lost everything and want revenge.
Or perhaps get a real job instead of podcasting bullshit
And it's interesting how narcissistic people can go that far. Always interesting. Imagine Trump doing the same. Thankfully he doesn't have a gun and can't kill himself.
I wonder how long we have until someone tries to use this to "Debunk" the very real fact that the overwhelming majority of mass shooters are male despite the fact that ONE Female Shooter added to the statistics won't move the needle one bit.
I also love one thing in particular about this. She had a handgun, not a Assault Rifle Assault-Like Rifle Bullshit PC term the NRA wants me to use Fast Shooty gun so she managed to kill a whopping 0 people besides herself.
Geez. It's almost like fast shooty guns like the AR-15 were developed to kill a lot of people very quickly and if you take them out of the equation here, the shooters' ability to kill is severely and effectively gimped.
something something GODDAMN SJWS
I'm surprised nobody focused On her being Iranian
Or focused on her being an 'unstable woman'. … Sure you and I know that's pure BS but there ARE some extreme wackos who think woman shouldn't be in politics or able to vote because they are "too emotional" and "unstable" by the factor they were born female.
Or perhaps get a real job instead of podcasting bullshit
And that hits the nail why I won't do a homebased "job" (read craft/hobby to sell) or do YouTube to make money, its too random and not stable income.

I doubt it will take long at all. Fox hasn't had its evening "news" or talk shows yet. Though If Rush Limbaugh is still on the air it may not even be that long…
I try to stay away gun debates except for this forum. Too many times have I read the same tired argument of "people can kill each other with knives, should we ban them too?". And these people sound so self-confident and adamant that their opinion is as valid or more valid than those with common fucking sense.
The whole "females are unstable" shit needs to die too. It's honestly dehumanizing, talking about people that way. Even if I'm a transman, I still feel disgusted by such arguments.
I'm just glad it hasn't become another chapter in the "mass shootings in the USA" book.

I would be extremely happy if a crazy person trying to kill people was using a knife rather than any kind of gun.
Who knew that we put too much focus on MLK's death and not enough on JFK's or that the FBI thinking he was a communist somehow disregards his legacy.
@Monkey:

Ditto.
Reminds me of how three knife wielding terrorists burst into a steakhouse during the London Bridge attacks and one of the customers took them on with his bare fists.
He suffered eight stabs/slices and lost a lot of blood, but he kept going. The attackers eventually gave up and fled the scene.
If they had guns instead of knives then things would have ended much differently, and much quicker.
Who knew that we put too much focus on MLK's death and not enough on JFK's or that the FBI thinking he was a communist somehow disregards his legacy.
URgh, too bad that reporter didn't set that idiotic woman straight, Of course we are focusing on MLK right now, he was assassinated on April 4th, JFK was killed in November. … though I have to admit it seems we don't mention JFK much.
AS for FBI, that was during Hoover's time and boy did he hate King (or at least seem to in his paranoia ), not to mention Hoover was just out paranoid ass that made the FBI into his personal secret police (Pres. Truman actually said that last part)
@Monkey:

It's infuriating how some people are simply unable to grasp the difference between an attacker with a knife and one with a long-range weapon.
And highlight the difference from a pistol to an automatic weapon.
People keep repeating that, but it's not even like she'd tried to really kill anyone. She basically went there and shot herself. It's a public suicide, not really an attack. I doubt it was even premeditated.
She basically went there and shot herself.
….. and several other people.
She intentionally discharged deadly bullets into others, so it's still an attack.
Today a cop shot a black guy 5 times who was holding a luffa. Because of course.

But don't you dare suggest Black Lives Matter isn't fair to the police!
A luffa? like, the sponge?

Uh… yes she did.
She shot 4 people, just non fatally.
Because she had a handgun and not a military rifle She wasn't very efficient at killing people, but she totally tried to.
I think even before firearms were invented, only a handful of people were allowed to have weapons like swords. The good ones I mean because without the proper quality and care you could only use it a few times before it gone rusted with all the blood and guts, so a the best stuff were always to the knights and samurais while the common people would usually use a pitchfork or something on a stick.
heck, they even banned katanas in Japan long ago(In the Meiji era, I guess?) and it's like super rare for a civilian to have a gun in there.
Swords were banned in Japan in the Meiji era, and guns, while not completely outlawed, are VERY hard to get in Japan. As a result, while Japan has it's violence problems like any country, they do not have anything like what we're going through. If anything, Japan has a bigger problem with people killing themselves rather than other people.
So, there's a new thing going on. Some anti-transgender nutbags online are pushing the crazy theory that the YouTube Shooter was trans for no real reason.
There's also the fact that some countries allow you to own all the guns you want… but ammo isn't sold anywhere, and you have to go to specific places to get it.

Looks like they took Chris Rock's advice to heart (skip to 3:15)
The first minute and a half of this kinda underscores how bad this problem was. This bit debuted in his 1999 "Bigger and Blacker" Special. That's almost 20 years ago. Yet, the "Angry White Guy" school shooter was already a known enough quantity that he starts this bit talking about how scared he is of young white guys…
