hey, can anyone tell me when are we getting the next chapter? I lost track of the breaks and whatnot.
Chapter 903: The Fifth Emperor
-
-
@Kaido:
Epithets are full of biases. Kaido's infobox made it clear that his title is based on what people say, not an official classification by the author himself.
Actually, you are right, the only official epithet of Kaidou is The Beast.
-
@Dahaka.:

No chapter next week. Its golden week.
-
No chapter next week. Its golden week.
Since we are tuesday now, there is technically a chapter next week :-)
-
@Kaido:
How come? I thought it was fitting considering he was considered as "the man closest to One Piece" and how his era was coming to an end.
Because the One piece was not what he was interested. His family was and to me at least that's one of the things I loved the most about him. "The man closest to the One Piece" is exactly why this sentence coming from Whitebeard are so wrong. The One Piece was always that thing everyone wanted for him but he never gave a damn about because he had totally different aspiration.
To me it's like replacing Bellemere's farewell to her daughters with some platitude about how marines are a strong that can overcome the corruption. It might be right but it's not what the character is about it's just a platitude.
And that last sentence is basically my feeling on the sentence. It made sense to Roger becasue the man wanted to be remembered that's the whole reason he made that last voyage and therefore the sentence complete his story and fit perfectly his character. The same way Luffy when about to die yelled how he would become pirate king and how Bellemere died telling her daughters what they meant to her. All are things that fits the character not just random platitudes used becasue they sound cool.
Having him used the same sentence as Roger is basically saying that Whitebeard might be nice but you only truly matter of you follow a similar path to the one Roger followed. It's not a celebration to Whitebeard's way of life it is a poor attempt to make him as cool as Roger by becoming Roger rather than be himself.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I love that moment since I see it as a parallel to Roger's death. When Rayleigh was telling the Strawhats about Roger on Shabody, he said something along the lines of "They wanted to execute him in the weakest of all the seas to send a message, but he turned his last words from a dying flame into a phoenix that enveloped the earth!" Isn't it ironic that they wanted to execute Roger to send a message to pirates, yet his last words are what started the great age of piracy?
Which is why it is so wrong. Whitebeard didn't failed at being Roger he didn't want to be him in the first place but in his dying Oda thought the best way was to make it a Roger bis rather than be himself
It's the same with Whitebeard. They went as far as to broadcast the battle with him because they thought that his death would discourage pirates, but instead his last moments did the opposite and ushered in the age of the worst generation. Shit is poetic almost.
It was ironic when ironic when Roger did it and a nice closer to the man that wanted to be remembered. With Whitebeard it was just a rip-off.

Kaido questioning why Luffy was in Big Mom territory could hint that he's thinking Luffy was after Big Mom's poneglyph.
-
Maaaaaan, what a chapter.
Great world building and reactions.
Sanji > Zoro
Luffy being considered the fifth Yonko is also just really, really cool.
I feel like the SH's are about to feel some immediate repercussions though
We may also see the other Supernovas taking bigger chances in an attempt to equal Luffy's exploits
-
I thought about what abilities Sanji could gain from the raid suit
All the raid suits (Judge excluded cuz he is normal) somehow is connected to the siblings mutant powers…
Sanji is the "failure" for never getting anything liek the exoskeleton... He was even mocked by it by Niji in the very last scene.
So what if besides boosting his natural stats he will also gain an outer exoskeleton? He already gained his unique powers in form of Diable Jambe without the mutant powers so he doesn't need that like Judge who channels lightning and is using a weapon through his raid suit.
Or do you think he will "activcate" his DNA powers as well or Diable Jambe already is that?
-
Niji mocked Sanji because they didn't want to verbally admit that they recognized his value. BUT the whole family decided to give him the suit so, officially they do accept him as their brother/son. Proof is, the suit has his number (3) on it, so it's not something that was decided at the last second in the action, it was something they decided before they came to save him.

I know that but you haven't answered my question…
BTW
Do you think we will see that Sora story again... I found this the most interesting part of the arc even more with Sanji's mom having excactly the same name as the hero in the comic. And why do the Vinsmokes agreed to such propaganda while at the end their still have been royals aka the WG after all

Could be, but does he know she has one? Does he really care?
I get more of the impression he was surprised he'd go after an Emperor, is all.(Kishido, you're actually back!)

ohhh i feel so depressed! there's no chapter this week? how sad//////dfadfw3r5q21

Tomorrow, 2 of May, chapter 903 is out on jump. In the middle of Golden week. Next Week is no Golden Week.

At some point Sanji will accept his Vinsmoke heritage I believe, He may never get along with his father or brothers but He's definitely putting on that suit at some point. and sooner than later I believe. Wano will require Sanji be on par with Zoro. Just my thoughts but I'm actually surprised that people are upset with the Raid suit, I felt like whole cake island showed us glimpses that even though sanji never got a 1v1 his power, speed is at an incredible level. When he puts on his suit he's going to truly be a monster.

So do we get spoilers this week?
Yes. Unless for some strange reason no jump next week. :/ (I'm looking for that info)
EDIT: Looks like they advanced the jump one week. So next number(#24) is out on 14 of May. So spoilers of 904 around 10 (?)
But not sure 100% -
Yes, we don't have One Piece this week. Next week we're back to the normal schedule.

I wonder what's going on with Vegapunk and Weevil. It'd be so cool to finally meet them :wub:
With an arc that takes place where the World Government is located I'd like to think this news paper is preparing us for full on Vegapunk disclosure with some exposition on Weevil and why or why not he and the rest of the War Lords will lose their status.
We've met quite a few characters who had close or possible passing relations to Vegapunk and there is a chance for all of them to be at Mariejois for some type of reunion or interaction with him. Judge, Caesar, Sentomaru, Smoker/Tashigi/Punk Hazard kids.
Judge is a tricky one because it's unclear how his Nation will be viewed in the eyes of the government. I don't buy that time is an issue and him showing up is jarring(hate that over used word) because time will lapse and he could easily show up late. I doubt this meeting will be a one and done type of deal. I figure it will be several days long and Judge could just show up late. If he didn't make mention of possibly losing his place at the Reverie I wouldn't have thought anything of it but it sounded like Judge had preperations for either scenario.
Caesar could have easily stowed away in the Germa kingdom after the failed assassination attempt.
Sentomaru was once Vegapunk's body guard and now as a full on Marine he might be escorting someone to Mariejois. Not to mention he could be another source of info towards shining light on Kuma and the Pacifists witch have a good chance of being present.
Smoker and his crew were heading to Vegapunk to take care of the messed up children. Tashigi seeing Vegapunk again asking about the current condition of the children seems pretty likely.
Saboady, Punk Hazard and Tottoland all had clear and deliberate connections to Vegapunk seems like the constant set up and foreshadowing is ready for the pay off.
-
I assumed Judge had invented all five of the raid suits before the quadruplets were born, as he had planned for them to be his generals. Then due to the machinations of their mother, Sanji never grew into his.
I love that moment since I see it as a parallel to Roger's death. When Rayleigh was telling the Strawhats about Roger on Shabody, he said something along the lines of "They wanted to execute him in the weakest of all the seas to send a message, but he turned his last words from a dying flame into a phoenix that enveloped the earth!" Eventually the Marines will learn to just execute pirates in the spare bedroom or something then bring out the damn head later. They keep trying to make spectacles out of everything, and keep having it backfire on them. X-D

That…makes sense. A lot, actually. I can give Whitebeard some credit--towards the end of the battle, after watching Luffy run around loudly getting his ass repackaged and handed to himself over and over again, and (presumably) feeling his own strength start to fail, Whitebeard did have that "Show me what the future holds, brat..." moment as he was watching Luffy land on the execution scaffold. He wasn't interested in One Piece, but he DID believe in Pirates having and pursuing their dreams and freedom. In that context, reinforcing the dream of most existing pirates with his dying breath sort of works.

Just like Luffy mistook HIS bounty, I guess Zoro will mistake Sanji's bounty_:"hehe, that damn cook's bounty decreased to 33mio!"_
Once he finds out that Sanji's is higher than his, I can only feel sorry for Kaidou's calamites and the Shogun. Now is there anyone here, who still thinks that Smoker is Luffy's Garp? Or do we all agree now that Coby is Luffy's Garp?
He is already called "hero", that's enough for me to treat him as Luffy's Garp. And about the raid suit:
Will there be a "desperate" Situation for Sanji to put that Thing on in the future? Like Usoppe's alter ego Sogeking? And damn… Bege must have lost it. Luffy gets always depicted as the mastermind behind his crimes (ID anyone?)! Although he is the opposite who can't even stick to plans (most of the time).
And every chapter, that Features Croc is a win.

Or do you think he will "activcate" his DNA powers as well or Diable Jambe already is that?
Interesting thought.
I also thought, since Ichiji's and Niji's nicknames "Sound" elemental (sparkling red and electric blue iirc) and Sanji uses fire on Diable Jambe, Sanji's nickname could be "blazing yellow".–- Update From New Post Merge ---
TBH, i didn't expect a bounty-raise at all after WCI, but it seems Morgans (or Stussy) is a big influencer. Neither did I expect that Luffy earned all the (mastermind-) fame that grew on Bege's back.
And it wasn't clear to me that Morgans was Aware of Kata's defeat by Luffy.
But 1.5 Billion, Mama mia! Luffy got a higher raise for destroying whole cake chateau than destroying EL.
Anyway, after Assembling a fleet of at least 7 Crews and defeating two yonkou commanders within like 2 days he deserves every single Berry of that bounty. The fact, that Sanji's bounty says "Vinsmoke..." Shows, that either Judge now aknowledges him as son or Morgans is a huge fan of him. From what Judge said about Sanji in the end, I'd pick the latter.

what type is luffy anyway ? BTW Nice chapter

Sort of works is the point of a platitude. It's not the worst thing ever but it's just something generic enough to fight a wide variety of people. When it is what you use for your dying character it's bad. And frankly what makes it worst in Whitebeard case is that it was of copy of what Roger did after Akainu accused Whitebeard of being a failure for not doing as much as Roger. Idon't think those last words were a coincidence I think the similarities were a deliberate choice by Oda to show us that Whitebeard was just as good. And to me that makes the choice he made even worse.

Maybe next week but I really doubt it. We will probably just get the usual quarrel. At least this timeSanji will have the higher ground.

Oh man I've been gone forever T_T
Great chapter. Luffy mistaking his bounty was great. Sanji has his raid suit and while I know he doesn't want to use it, I don't see it coming into play for no reason. Nice to see Coby again and that he's been promoted further and looking forward to Reverie. I know many folks are excited for Wano, but curious to see if (how) what happens at Reverie will affect what goes on in Wano.

No, the closest parallel to that is still Smoker, though neither of them fit the role to a T.

what am I supposed to do for another week
-
@All:
Pretty great chapter.
(…)
All that's left is how Oda will make the inevitable scene of Sanji wearing his Raid suit to be an acceptable one. It has to be in a situation where it's not only threatening Sanji's lives, but his friends/crew too. A situation where he is willing to swallow his pride and use the technology given by the family he loathes so much for the sake of protecting something/someone. Me personally, I don't want his eventual suit-up scene to be a come back moment after receiving a beating any less than what Luffy got against Katakuri. He has to be pushed to his very limit on a very high stake even higher than just his life before he decides to use the Raid suit as a last resort. Only then would wearing a Raid suit be acceptable for Sanji. Let the Raid suit be Sanji's Snakeman moment.I also thought of that, but then I remembered the davy back fight and the discussion who should be the ball in the 2nd round. Nami said he'd look cool with the ball and Sanji has gone for it. Now if Nami said Sanji would look rad in that suit, he'd wear it immediately.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Yep, they'd call him Hundred beasts Kaido. If they're describing hm they may call him "The Strongest Creature in the World", if they want to play it that way, then They should also add "Son of Dragon" and "Grandson of Garp" XD. We have yet to see if he'll be called the 5th Emperor.
As what I took from the chapter, it seems like the stuff that was written in the boxes (when we saw new marineford and all the People reading the News) is the same text as in the article. And the "last" box said "the fifth emperor has emerged!" Without any doubt, this sounds like Morgans'.
Anyway, I guess Coby is gonna be the next fleet Admiral. He will be elected, cause the top strands of hair on his head are shaped like the seagull sign in the marines' logo.
The fishman Kids are still wearing strawhats. That are the small Details i like in this Story.@Boing you're quite right that neither of them fits perfectly to that role. Coby grew alongside Luffy. And compared to Smoker he leaped in power-lvl. I can't imagine that Luffy has not surpassed Smoker by now. But I can imagine that Luffy is gonna Hand himself over to Coby one day (once he achieved his Goal, of course).
-
Now is there anyone here, who still thinks that Smoker is Luffy's Garp? Or do we all agree now that Coby is Luffy's Garp?
He is already called "hero", that's enough for me to treat him as Luffy's Garp.Count me among those who never even considered Coby as a candidate for that comparison. Seeing how Garp to Roger was a powerful and contemporary enemy who chased him endlessly when he was making his way through the grandline, who he still had a sort of unspoken friendship with based on their mutual respect. Coby is none of those things, he's a guy who idolizes Luffy and will always be playing catch-up to him. And even in the scenario where he'd be able to rival his power he doesn't have the heart to seriously fight his hero. Smoker and Luffy are freniemies with an emphasize on enemies. Coby and Luffy are friends period. With a dash of keep up the appearances. Atleast that's my read on it.
-
But I can imagine that Luffy is gonna Hand himself over to Coby one day (once he achieved his Goal, of course).
Well since the last battle will be against the WG and the Marine, and Luffy will be the victor, there would be no reason for him to turn himself in.

I dunno why people think that….
There is no reason for him to do so. The world will change for the better, new world, new era, and i fully expect after all is said and done, Luffy will be off on another adventure at the very end of the manga... -

But i do feel that playing things straight with a Luffy saves the day and everybody lived happily ever after ending would feel a bit light and fluffy.

I imagine luffy wants to inspire future generations of pirates, just like roger did. And I really don't see what adventures will be left since he already explored everything there is, including the final Island raftel. Going back to east blue and take the road again?

Raftel will only give the real location of One Piece and that is SPACE. The strawhats will build a flying ship like Enels and will continue their journeys in space

Its a big world out there, yes One Piece is the great mystery and all that, but I'm sure there are other great adventures, lost treasures etc waiting to be found…
nothing about Luffy suggests he cares about inspiring anyone to anything.
He's his own person, out to have fun & adventure. -

Well he only intentionally kills WB affiliated pirates and bounty heads. But that doesn't mean that it's safe to be around when he does so. That dude has such a bad brains to brawn ratio that he probably racks up worse collateral damage than the yellow monkey. And he's a walking disaster show.
That or he went and did something that got him booted out. But that bar seems to be set pretty high.

So, are we cutting to do a catch-up with the SliceyHats next chapter, or are we going to continue to follow the gathering for the reverie first?

Totland Arc Reread? It's what I'm doing.

Kind of wishing we'd gotten a Sabo and/or Dragon reaction from that bounty announcement. I want the father-son reunion to happen before the end, or at least before it becomes a 'we need to do X thing now, no time for pleasantries' kind of meeting.

That they weren't focused on here probably means they have a job at the reverie. Like dragon in disguise handing out brochures for the revolutionary army.

Would be weird for luffy and his deadbeat dad to have a casual interaction all of a sudden.
I think i'd prefer an action met up to take the edge off it.

@Long:

Well there are a minimum of five allied nations (not sure if one of them counts as royalty but is still indispensably important) that are willing to aid Luffy (Drum, Alabasta, Water 7, Fishman Island and Dressrosa) so provided that Dragon was aware of that, he can certainly send envoys undercover to deliver messages of subversion via someone who may not be known as a Revolutionary agent, like possibly Koala, but I don't see him making a big move just yet considering they just got a spanking from Blackbeard and might need time to regroup or change up their plans. Or hell, maybe that move on Blackbeard's part will have forced them to move their plans up and while they hadn't intended to do anything at Reverie, they will now because of it. That might be a better outcome, actually, having that be why something happens at Reverie with Dragon and co.
An attack would definitely be a poor decision since that would likely send the wrong message to those who he might hope to bring to his side, but what would be spectacular is to have him show some kind of heartbreaking story about (and this is a theory that came from the forum I migrated from, but it's not mine, I just really dig it) his wife, Luffy's mother, being a slave and him being a Marine and falling in love with her, and because of her status, them attempting to elope resulted in her death (not til after Luffy's birth, of course). All the nations that find such a thing abominable will of course rally to his side, or at least show their colors, and all those who don't care or who wish to enforce that kind of thing, will show themselves as the monsters they truly are and thus irrevocably split apart Reverie, never to be gathered again because of the schism he will have caused between the member nations. That, to me, would be perfection on par with how awesome this chapter's revelations were.

Yeah people keep saying attack but thats a terrible idea in-story wise. They might make a declaration somewhere at the sametime or work in the shadows but crashing in through the ceiling and making ahuge entrance would be tempting death for no reason

Perfect (and possibly last) opportunity for us to see some badass bounty hunters.

No chapter this week?
Nope Ch 903 officially dropped this wednesday because goldenweek was technically a break for last week between 902 and 903. But because we got it so early it'll be til next friday (11th) before 904 comes out
-
Godamn golden week. Not sure if we'll have world reactions next chapter or will we have the reverie only.
Also, it seems like the Germa n Sun pirates escaped just fine since Big Mom is now reading a newspaper.
I used to think double issue = 2 chapters in a week. Oh how disappointed I was lol
