So now you guys have to turn everything into men vs women? it's One Piece with the constant complaints about freaking Smoothie and now Dragon Ball? I don't care if she is a women or a guy, if Jiren did what she did, Jiren was hyped to be a monster like that, she wasn't, at the end of the day I'm fine with it because at this point with the pre tournament stuff I've noticed they are just crapping all over power levels besides when they want to use it as a plot point, I hate power level talk or vs threads in other animes/manga, but dragon ball actually has power levels as part of the anime…I'm posting mainly because the MvsF talk since like I said at this point I just try to enjoy the episodes and ignore the power levels.
Plus I actually like her personality for people comparing her personality with Jiren, Jiren is just the boring strong guy rigth now, I really like female Goku and her dynamic.

Toei is using that WWE mentality, if certain characters dont produce the $$$$ they get buried and forgotten.

I got done watching ~20 episodes of Gohan in DBZ. I'd say 20 episodes of a combination of characters is an improvement. They do share the same flaw, though. I can see where people are coming from. It even has the same structure with the Saiyans flying towards Earth at the end of every episode/the stadium being built at the end of every episode.
I think the leadup to the ToP would've been more acceptable to people if it was also a year, instead of 48 hours.

The only problem with that is that the characters would've possibly ended up absurdly powerful because of the Time Chamber and Whis' training, but even with that, the power-ups would've made more sense for everyone really.

Yup if characters got a warning of the tournament for a year the improvements would make sense, we could still get the same amount of episodes since I don't want more training episodes, but it would make more sense for everyone.
I'm still more bothered by the Tien, Roshi stuff than anything else.

As someone who really likes the Super manga, I'm surprised to see so much negativity towards it. As far as the Zamasu arc goes, I appreciated that:
the big issues I've had are with characterization
Zamasu actively makes no goddamn sense in the manga compared to the anime where we actually see him teeter and snap while still thinking his acts are for the greater good. Manga Zamasu is literally just evil and stupid on top of it, while lacking the more interesting aspects of anime zamasu's characterization
Goku Black was joy to watch in the anime. He was so malevolent and menacing. He had a presence that was distinct from pretty much any other villain the series has had.
Manga Black is literally just a boring brute with nothing that made Anime Black fun. He's literally just Toyotaro's OC from a fanfic he made pasted over a much better villain.
Genkiken let trunks get a cool moment in what is supposed to be his own arc, he gets nothing in the manga except ~healing~ and it still only serves as an ex machina but to let Goku and Vegeta keep fighting instead of letting trunks actually do something cool. So you basically get a choice between a cool asspull or a lame asspull.
consistent power levels can eat my ass. i don't watch dragon ball for consistency i watch it to see these assholes do cool shit and the manga goes out of its way to be lame as fuck

To each their own. I agree that Zamasu and Black suffer as characters in the manga though, and I think this is because Toyotaro just doesn't want to spend time going over the same story beats as the anime in depth. He either does his own thing with a good amount of detail (like the Mario Kart scene or the fights) or speeds through stuff that the anime has already covered, similar to how he skipped the scenes from Bulma's birthday in the Battle of Gods arc. He must figure that since people already know what Zamasu and Black are all about due to the anime that it isn't worth his time to fully develop them in the manga, and while I see where he's coming from, it would definitely be for the best if he slowed the pacing down a bit and fleshed the story out a bit more.
Now that I think about it, I suppose that my positivity towards the manga is partially a result of me having already seen the anime. If I had only ever read the manga, I probably wouldn't like Zamasu and Black as characters very much, but since I enjoyed them in the anime, it was easy for me to look past their flawed portrayal in the manga. Perhaps that's Toyotaro's intent here, but it sucks that the manga has to suffer as a stand-alone series as a result.
DBZ rewatch episode 20-29.
There it is! There's the lengthy scenery pans, long powerups and the drop in animation quality.
To be fair, episode 21 was by far the nicest animated and every episode has some really nice art. I love how the auras are drawn much more rather than the occasional CG effects that are used currently. Goku trashing Nappa was really rewarding and I still love how the Kaioken looks and how it's one of the better explained and balanced powers in the story starting from Z. So cool.
There are so many spoilery titles, though. Just look at them:
23: "Yamucha Dies! The Terror of the Saibaimen"
24: "Farewell Ten-san! Chaozu's Suicide Strategy"
25: "Tenshinhan Cries Out!! This is My Final Kikoho"
28: "Ferocity of the Saiyans! Kami-sama and Piccolo Both Die"
I really like how Piccolo teaches Gohan as he fights and how Gohan does end up attacking on his own. Piccolo's sacrifice, aside from looking great and giving me massive 90s anime nostalgia because of the style of it, gave him a good character arc. Tenshinhan's and Chaotzu's sacrifice was touching. The story's plenty good at character writing. That said, apparently episodes 9-18 are mostly filler so I probably wouldn't have cared nearly as much for Piccolo's sacrifice in the manga. That stuff helped a lot.
It's pretty obvious why it got so popular, but also why Z could be enjoyed without seeing the original Dragon Ball. The characters' personalities are spelled out well. It's entirely concerned with just telling a story. There's basically no fanservice, the story is basic enough to understand and it's not strange enough to alienate people from other countries who have never seen anime.

Kale has never once been referred to as the 'Legendary Super Saiyan' in Super, so why would they?
Imo both the anime and manga have the merits and de-merits. Two examples literally from the end of this arc are:
In the anime's favour: Spirit Sword was awesome and gave Trunks the final blow which he needed. No matter what happened after (which is stupid in both versions), the anime gave Trunks the better ending.
In the manga's favour: Trunks choosing to go back to a time before Dabura appeared and change the timeline from that point makes so much more sense than Whis just creating another timeline split and breaking all the rules he had established. It was dumb, and the manga's explanation was better.
And i could go on and on about these differences between them (the arc was paced better in the manga, in the anime the villains were characterised better, but in the manga they were less stupid because they didn't wait around forever, but the manga has Goku doing a destruction attack which makes no sense, but the manga also makes Goku less of an idiot with the Mafuba) but I won't go on anymore.
I'm very easy to please so I enjoy both the manga and anime like a little kid.

We got a reasonable explanation for how Merged Zamasu could be defeated before Zeno showed up. The Spirit Sword was cool and all, but it made no sense, and was just lazy writing.
The spirit bomb has been in place as Goku's special move since the start of Z. Trunks using a variant of the technique where he drew upon the power of the world fit with that just fine. He just channeled it into his sword rather than a giant ball.

True, but the Spirit Bomb is something that 1) Goku had to be taught how to use, and 2) required the user to stand still for a while to charge it. Trunks did neither of those, his Spirit Bomb magically formed on its own because Toei's version of the plot called for it.
Plus there's no way Trunks gathering energy from living things on an slmost devoid of life Earth should have done anything.
Goku practically did the same thing on Namek, plus managed to get energy from surrounding planets, to Frieza and it still didn't kill him when he was way weaker than characters are now.
The real answer to that is that the anime team just thought it looked cool and that it felt approrpiate for Trunks' character. At the very least it wasn't a technique we've never seen before and it was a pretty iconic one at that. It also actually… didn't ultimately work, either.
Speaking of Spirit Bombs not working.... DBZ Rewatch episode 30-37. That concludes the Saiyan arc.

The moment with Piccolo was the first notable instance, but oh hey, this is where this became a trend. It is something understandable to some extent and a interesting flaw considering Goku has some second thoughts later. It's just never really overcome.
I forgot that tails growing back while in a tough situation is a thing and that Super Saiyan was already mentioned this early, same goes with connecting the language Kami and Piccolo spoke in the DB tournament. The story does try it's best to connect everything as naturally as possible, some things feeling more natural than others.
I also forgot that Chichi was completely indifferent to Goku being so injured... and it was highlighted multiple times in the span of two episodes just to drive it in. It's so odd because prior to this and after this moment, she's not straight-up indifferent like that at all. I guess Toriyama really didn't like Chichi in that moment? Super has a bunch of moments of her being a worrywart for all of them. She's still a pretty one-dimensional character, but at least I'd like her to stay understandable.

! Also, this episode was just a good series of scenes. Everyone was top notch and kicked butt. I particularly liked 18 throwing that Cocotte out.
Protect Kale and Caulifla. They're precious. Power levels can go screw it. I called it, it was a character development moment for Kale.
I love that there are so many different body types and designs for the female characters here, again, male characters can fight female characters and no fanservice fights or anything. Controlled Super Saiyan Kale looks so cool. Also hell yeah, 17 and 18. 18 really shined in particular, just really to-the-point. It's nice that Tenshinhan and Roshi got a ringout. The girls definitely got this ep, tho. They did the thing and had one of the androids save Goku. It's just nice to see all these match-ups.
It didn't really shine in terms of animation, either, but it was a good episode. Everyone likes to hug Goku.
Also, thanks Metamario. This arc actually reminds me a lot of the Saiyan arc. The Saibamen are the fodder contestants (with more unique powers), that give the side cast a little time to shine. What follows is probably Nappa and Vegeta type of opponents, except hopefully for several characters. With the preview we've basically seen everything in the opening except for Goku vs. Jiren, which is interesting.

I just wanted to see the Androids do cool stuff, but nope, it's apparently more important that we get to watch Kale's "waa I'm useless but I'm so gay for Caulifla so I'll power-up" routine for the second time. Her character got stale before the Tournament even started, and she doesn't even become a mindless rage monster anymore, so now she's just annoying.
So Caulifla managed to survive her KO flag from the preview. Now I'm chuckling at the viewers who leapt down her throat for writing off the Pride Troopers as jobbers when they've now lost over half their team in rapid succession, half of those in embarrassingly off-handed ways.
Though, what was with that line about Kahseral "conquering" planets? Were they supposed to be planets full of evil people or…? Hmm...
Frieza waving off the hearts in the pretty was a funny-looking image. That should be a fun scene next week.
Fun fact: Toriyama made Goku marry Chichi just to spite himself, so he'd be forced to draw her more.

I agree. I thought it'd be interesting for us to get some Saiyan ladies. But Cauliflower is dumb and Kale is the worst.
On a side note. The preview appears to have Piccolo doing something other than standing around with his arms folded. He better actually get to do something worthwhile before getting rung out.
