Chapter 869: Under Siege

Isn't the anime atrocious and insulting to the story anyway?
yes, I don't know why people even care at this point. Maybe they're afraid to stumble on the episode while youtubing or else
-
Toei could go for the route of basing most of its content on the heroes' perspectives, thus we wouldn't hear screams when focusing on them since they're wearing earplugs. And now in this chapter most people are wearing earplugs.
-
aww I wanted big mom to start eating her kids
-
@Game:
aww I wanted big mom to start eating her kids
There's still plenty of time for that to start happening.
-
It's nice to see Sanji getting some feats, oops i mean everybody except Sanji. I don't see the whole point of this arc if BM doesnt fall. Reiju is by far the most badasd Germa, the father is still a shit though. I really dont like the Idea of a handful of strawhats escaping BM. Pretty obvious Luffy is going to save Capone, I think Sanji will finally get the feats he deserves. Next three chapters are going to be lit.
-
Just as I was about to conjecture: the building on which they stand is coming down from the blast of the tamatebako bomb.
-
@Daz:
I wonder how Toei is gonna deal with a string of episodes that are canonically filled with front to back screaming
Use the fact that the strawhats are using earplugs to tone it down or make it disappear totally. That's the easiest option.
-

If Big Mom doesn't fall (which I'm 95% sure won't happen), the arc will have given us Sanji's past, that was the whole initial point of it. We met the Vinsmoke family, which is not only related to Sanji's past but is also important in the wider world. An Emperor's power was established and shown straight to our faces, which further hypes Kaido and the Wano arc, the main dish of the New World storyline being built up since Punk Hazard. And we had a fun story in a fairy tale edible wonderland, which is always good nonetheless.
-
i cannot believe that they'd separate Brulee from her true love like that so callously

Sanji doesn't need feats.
-
I really enjoyed the chapter.
But you can tell Oda is trying to wrap this up as fast as he can.
He sure is as he promised Wano this year to at least start.
I would love to see some 1 vs 1 or 1 vs 2 fights actually happening.. I wonder how Oda will show Sanji actually shining. Its been such a long series of build ups I am really tired.
I think I will make a break in reading One Piece after this arc concludes. Half a year or so. I am bit tired of OP itself and its formula of giving me shards of build up so it pays up very late in each arc, with Sanji combat power "always awaiting show off" its absurdly long. I know emotional arc this, build up that, many characters yada yada yada.
Give me freaking Sanji 1 vs 1 where my jaw drops and I am in an awe for few next days after reading chapter. Make him beat Daifuku in few awesome moves and then give him all out aerial battle where he makes fried chicken out of Count Nivatori !
Like RIGHT NOW!
-
Agreed as well for the Sentai transformation. That spread is awesome, but having 3 whole pages after the moment when the BM pirates are prepared to shoot really kills the timing.
Time stands still during these transformations, that's why the villains don't bombard for the five minutes it takes giant robots to assemble.
-
Since the Srawhats & Co. are completely trapped inside the Capone fortres, they will at some point have to get out of capone and do something.
I don't know if someone else already had this prediction before me, but I'm gonna throw it in here for the next chapter. What could possibly happen is the following:
Remember how Caesar Clown was given 2 weeks to create giantification medicine for Big Mom? Well since Caesar only had a few days to prepare the medicine, in such short time he could have only come up with a mere prototype. What I think is that Caesar will give the giantification medicine to Luffy, which will make him bigger and stronger for a short amount of time, so that he could at least hold the Charlotte family down for a bit and in the meanwhile find a way out.
Of course, Oda-Sensei may also pull a Goda and come with a surprise yet again.
-
Damn, that was a great chapter! I can already see the match ups on the upcoming climax. It should be: Ichiji, Niji, Yonji and Reiju vs Daifuku, Oven, Perospero, and Compote. Nami, Chopper, Brook, and Carrot vs Gallet, Montdor, Amande, and Brulee. Sanji and Jimbei vs Katakuri and Smoothie. And Luffy vs Big Mom, with Bege, Jajji, and Caesar protecting/taking over during his downtime. Of course, Pedro has to settle his thing with Count Chicken too.
-
I really don't see fights going on, they are too out numbered.
-
Since the Strawhats & Co. are completely trapped inside the Capone fortress, they will at some point have to get out of Capone and do something.
Like any good castle, Capone should have a secret "underground railroad" exit tunnel. I'll leave it to your imagination what part of Capone's anatomy it corresponds to.

i have a theory on the tamatebako
one of my theories has always been that just after the wano arc we will move to the reverie because kaidou will left wano the instant caribou will tell him that shirahoshi is poseidon…setting the big reverie arc as a 3 way between the strawhats alliance wanting to save shirahoshi, kaido wanting to kidnap her and the government...but what if it's..a four way?
what if in a special hidden compartment inside the tamatebako there's some kind of hint or document that would make big mom too realize that shirahoshi is poseidon ?in this chapter we saw the box falling off the cliff and the natural result would be to crash on the ground below, so that would be the way said "hidden compartment" gets discoveredi understand there's literally no hint about it in the manga so it's mostly a shot in the dark..but there are some extra story things that make this possible
- we already know what's inside the tamatebako,so the surprise of hat's inside can't be the reason why it's still in the story
- we thought that he would have played a role in this arc,but it's now way out of reach of anyone involved
- inside there's a bomb and this is onepiece...at worst explosions are a mild annoyance. We though that explosion would have had worsened the rivalry between big mom and luffy, but at this point it can hardly get worse....so there must be another reason why the box is still in the story.
as i said, total shot in the dark
it's also possible than in the end pudding is gonna reset the memory of the big mom pirates so that big mom forgets this huge incident but then she finds the tamatebako, remembers that it hs been taken from luffy, opens it and so she still has some beef with luffy by the end of the arc but just not that severe that she would go as far as to attack their families or something 8because as things are now,it's totally the way the story should go...she threatened the baratie members just to make sanjji merry pudding..what can she do when she is in full revenge mode?
-
lol the Germa Rangers I wonder if they have a megazord too
-

Or simply Bobbin wakes up, finds the tamatebako, opens it and then it blows up in his face. That will make Bobbin One Piece's walking meme of the year.
-
It looks like Pudding feels something about Sanji swooping in and saving Nami. I'm curious what kind of development that will bring….

/sarcasm (mostly)Would love to see OP fandom react if that was the case.
-
If Lola doesn't show up with Loki and the Giants, I don't know what the whole thing about "Lola's mother" was even about.
-
My bet is that Count catched Tamatebako and will bring it up shortly up again.
He should recognize it falling from top of castle as he brought it to Big Mom and he has to get into action somehow after his fight with Pedro and then latest transformation that seemingly makes him VERY strong compared to previous forms. Guy is not over 400mln for nothing, he should be around as strong as Jinbe imo and Sanji beating somebody like that would make A LOT of sense and would be hype enough for me before we hit Wano arc.
-
Somehow the Box that fell gets open, explodes, blasts a huge chunk of the mountain away on which the ceremony was held, thus the whole thing topples over to the ground and the strawhats and friends can get the eff out.
-
Katakuri: okay, so they're surrounded everywhere, they can't escape, perfect.
Tamago appears by opening the door that is locked by Capone's goons somehow
Tamago: hey Mama, look at what I've found! Let's open the Tamatebako while waiting them to get out.
Bigmom stops destroying Capone and for some reason turns into someone patient
Linlin: Okay.
She opens the box and everyone dies, the SHs and their allies escapecheck.
-
Or cracker just recovered and is on his way to the wedding, finds the box and opens it.
-
All the losers (Pekoms, Bobbin and Cracker) of this arc, meet up near it box and it explodes.
-
And Luffy shows her the picture of Caramel again, so that Bigmom dies in the explosion.
-
Honestly, I'm thinking this is all a big set-up for some good old fashioned 1-on-1s. Since the SHs and Co have their back against a wall, they will have no choice but to form a plan inside Capone's body and counter-attack.
You can say she would have been greatly harmed if she didn't have that ability of hers, but she has, so the kick did nothing. Anyway, we are talking of a distracted Smoothie. If Reiju attacked her head on, the outcome would probably be different.
It's also worth noting that if Reiju attacked any of the other characters, they probably would have died.
Though I think Smoothie is the BM pirates' insurance against any other member being poisoned–she can squeeze the poison out of them too.
In fact, it sort of indicates that Gastino's poison gas might be useless against her or her comrades since she can just wring out any toxins from the body. Pretty much someone who can, at least temporarily silence the "who don't Gastino and Reiju just poison everybody??" crowd
-
If Lola doesn't show up with Loki and the Giants, I don't know what the whole thing about "Lola's mother" was even about.
???? Why would Lola work with Loki? How would she get to Elbaf so quickly? (we saw her shortly after the timeskip on Water 7).
Lola being pulled up in this arc doesn't mean she herself has to appear in it and have direct relevance. Her actions in Thriller Bark have helped lead into plot threads regarding Big Mom, the giants and Charlotte Family affairs, plus her Vivre Card played a pretty important role in the woods. She's served quite a big purpose in this arc without even being in it.
-
Luffy has everything he wanted now. Jimbei and the poneglyphs. Pudding will do some mindmeddling with BM to safe Sanji and then the SHs escape. End of story.
Don't care what happens to the Beges, Vinsmokes and Gastinos, they can fight and die.
-
Whew pants, sorry I'm late to the thread.
Nothing really stood out this chapter for me except for the Vinsmokes' Power Ranger/Super Sentai styled transformation which was awesome and the tamatebako finally being in play (sort of).
That, and Smoothie's… amount of "care" put into the current situation, and that's me putting it nicely.
-
I really don't want them to get out of this through some new sort of deus ex machina. Time to show off some skillz.
-
This chapter was pretty fun! The Vinsmokes may still be punks, but damn if their double spread wasn't glorious as fuck. I enjoyed them displaying their powers, and Smoothie…well, her grabbing Nami was a good start I suppose.
Also, what happened to the flippin' Tamatebako was HILARIOUS. This shit has been in the back of our minds for five years as it's such an obvious game changer, but now it's been flung to who knows where...man, Oda, just when I think you make your plot elements look predictable, you do something like this. Bravo. Let the speculation begin...will it survive the fall? Who will it land on if it doesn't? Who'll find it if it does?
Looking forward to what's next in store for our heroes. Still definitely on the No 1v1 fight wagon for now, still way too many BM Pirates even if a lot of them haven't been developed, not to mention the Big Mom-Katakuri-Slush Melt combo should realistically be too much for the alliance's strongmen.
-
I'd like to remind people that the Zeff situation still hasn't been taken care of.
-

With the BM Pirates taking the "wait and see" approach, 1-on-1s sound really unlikely, especially with Big Mom around.
It really does seem like Pudding will be the key here. We have yet to see the purpose of her fruit in this arc.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I'd like to remind people that the Zeff situation still hasn't been taken care of.
At this point, it doesn't seem important anymore. The marriage won't be happening again, and it's not like Sanji is Big Mom's top priority.
-
I'd like to remind people that the Zeff situation still hasn't been taken care of.
Now that vinsmokes are allies, the ones that said they will kill him, problem solved. I don't think BM herself at this point still gives a sht about zeff, but vinsmokes could send their men to protect him.
If there will be 1vs1s, it can't be in this small place. Bomb needs to send them all away in different places.
-
You can clearly see what big Mom's Trigger points are:
Not getting Sweets > Tamatebako Box >>> Weding Cake & Political marriages in general > Mother Carmel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Outright betrayal
It's the betrayal that snapped her out of her mindless rage state into a true rage state.
-

I don't think Bigmom just turned into a reasonable person all of a sudden.

It's both actually http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/815/6
You're not getting away of EATING MAMA'S CAKE just like that. (and eventually destroying Cracker, some fodders, destroying the Caramel picture, preventing Bigmom to get a technologically enhanced army) -
Now i know they say if we leave the castle we are instantly done for.
But looking at the numbers and opponents i can't really get that feeling of being hopelessly outmatched.
Or i guess big mom herself is supposed to amount to most of that overpowering feel.
-
People keep talking about how Smoothie looks weak for a commander, but nobody mentions Compote, Big Mom's daughter that was hyped up alongside Daifuku and Oven, she completely disappears in thin air while Daifuku and Oven relatively live up to their names. Even Galette and Mont D'or make an appearance this chapter.
-

Big Mom and Katakuri alone could probably wipe the floor with most of the alliance fighters. Perospero's been of great help as well. And of course Smoothie probably could too, even if in name only right now.

After her flashback, Big Mum opening the box was no more a game changer. There is just a few bombs in that chest.

Yeah, I wondered how he would go about it without it feeling out of place with the stuff here, but believe me, it's still a game changer. Just may not be quite as direct as once believed.
-

That is of course the implication here. But it's just not being conveyed to me by this line-up.
Just not feeling the despair atm. But i'm hoping that BM will show off next chapter.
-

I don't care about the mooks either and I doubt that anybody will. But most of the initial concern was about the big dogs (Peros and Potato), which got much bigger once Big Mom entered the fray.
-
What was actually the point of Charlotte Compote. She even got an introduction box but hasn't been seen since her introduction box
-

He's saving it for something big after all of this build-up and now a blatant trolling tease. My expectations for its role have only increased due to this chapter.

Providing fruit ingredients for the new cake Sanji's going to make for Big Mom.
-
I'm still counting on the Tamate Box being what will push Big Mom to actively pursue Luffy, once they escape this arc. Whether it's a simple reaffirmation of her anger or, she lets them leave on neutral terms and the box pushes her angry again.
