So… I had been away from this thread since the election ended and I don't really hear much about Trump outside of here. I just got up-to-date with the thread and I must say I feel like it would be better to just give up trying to understand what's going on.

To be fair, both do generally describe Trump pretty well. This instance may not fit the "loud" definition but be sure as hell never apologized for it, far as I know.
I'm sure Trump has plenty of those(there was that thing about walking on naked pageants). I was thinking about this specific example not fitting. Especially since it was the first time in years of controversial statements that Trump issued an apology.
This will certainly create a huge spike in SD-voters as well. I mean, there is basically nothing related to the topic that doesn't. But it will cause a lot of people to look towards right wing echo-chambers even more than usual. I'm probably going to stay away from Youtube and news in general for a while thanks to this whole debacle.

However, if it's any consolation Trump's actions will also strengthen those who oppose them. We've already seen this in the US, I've never seen so many Americans talk politics. Hopefully we'll get a similar effect in Sweden.
And you're definitely doing the right thing staying away from Youtube. I've been thinking of trying to get into those discussions but I don't have the energy and I don't feel like it'll make a difference (the few times I've tried I've just been down voted to hell. Not even a reply or hate messages, just nothing). It's so frustrating, some people are like a brick wall. I'll probably be staying out of politics as much as possible for my own mental health's sake (got enough anxiety as it is) unless there's something I can personally contribute to like the recent news.

It's quite bone chilling to see someone truly believe that to be a suitable defense. She flat out says he's not qualified for the job, but is still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. That goes beyond ignorance. In fact, what she says afterwards put everything into perspective for me.

I feel like the world is balancing itself out somehow. I've been trying to avoid the guy, but this seems like the right thing to happen. He's gone. We never have to worry about him again. At least until he does something newsworthy. Which he probably will. But for now he's gone.

Forget to mention earlier, but these next two weeks are special. Today, or maybe this week, Trump is going to release a newly modified immigration ban. Meanwhile, next week on the 28th is the limit (having started 30 days from Jan. 28th) placed on one of Trump's executive orders where he comes up with a plan to take down ISIS (link). So, in two weeks Trump wants to fix immigration and start a plan to take down ISIS–assuming he does this on time. I'm just venting my fear here--like I haven't been doing that all month. I'm waiting for a shoe to drop.

The New Mexican Senate passed a bill that would allocate their Electoral College votes to the winner of the national popular vote.
I tend to question moves like this due to the bite us all in the ass potential, but given we got Trump and one Dubya term due to winning the Electoral while losing the popular, which had otherwise only happened a handful of times, I can go for this.

Trans people in their current "form" (taking modern medications and surgery) are a very new part of our society; homosexuality predates humans, and even abortion is a concept going back thousands of years.
