Indecision 2016 - In Soviet Russia, we elect american president!
-
-
I'm honestly REALLY excited for the debates… if anything is gonna hurt Trump, it's gonna be when Hillary destroys him on stage.
-
While Third Parties can't win on the national level, I've read they can do better on the local level (Sanders himself is perhaps a case in point) and would do better to focus on the city and state level races.
-
the democrats have so nicely demontransted that their corruption runs as deep as the republicans. Their damage control is admirable though.
-
Call me crazy, but isn't it way more believable that Trump's trying to rig the debates so fewer people have to see him embarrass himself?
Don't see how that would work since media coverage has come very far within the last 100 or so years. Basically with Twitter
and YouTube being a thing there's going to snippets of him getting humiliated one way or the other. -

I'm going to guess this is Earthquake given the reg date and suddeness.

I have the feeling I'm missing something here. Most likely due to being a recent visitor to this thread.

I love how he said he has sacrificed by creating thousands of jobs
That poor, poor millionaire sacrificing his free time to marry three women, build casinos, resorts, hotels, & golf courses and
declare bankruptcies on them, campaigning for President of the US and barely spending a dime of his own money. -
It was pretty brilliant of the DNC to bait him like that lmao

Ok, serious question and I'm not kidding here. I'm up to speed on most of the political issues in this particular election save one.
What exactly is the TPP and why is it bad?
I've been doing some research on it and you just have to weigh the pros with the cons. The list I'm about to compile is basically copypasted from these 2 sites.
https://netivist.org/debate/tpp-pros-and-cons
http://useconomy.about.com/od/Trade-Agreements/fl/What-Is-the-Trans-Pacific-Partnership.htmPROS
-
The TPP which seeks to govern the exchange of not only traditional goods and services, but also intellectual property and foreign investment, would promote trade in knowledge-intensive services in which companies exert a strong comparative advantage.
-
It's argued that killing the TPP would do little to bring factory work back to America or other countries involved and the potential gains of the TPP for the partners are significant.
-
The TPP boosts exports and economic growth, creating more jobs and prosperity for the 12 countries involved. It increases exports by $305 billion per year by 2025. U.S. exports would increase by $123.5 billion, focusing on machinery, especially electrical, autos, plastics and agriculture industries. The agreement adds $223 billion a year to incomes of workers in all the countries, with $77 billion of that going to U.S. workers.
-
All countries agreed to cut down on wildlife trafficking, especially elephants, rhinoceroses, and marine species. It prevents environmental abuses, such as unsustainable logging and fishing. Those that don't will face trade penalties.
-
Some have argued that although China is not part of the TPP, enacting the agreement would raise regulatory rules and standards for several of China’s key trading partners. That would pressure China to meet some of those standards and cease its attempts to game global trade to impede foreign multinational companies.
CONS
-
Most of the gains in income would go to workers making more than $88,000 a year. Free trade agreements contribute to income inequality in high-wage countries by promoting cheaper goods from low-wage countries. That would be especially true of the TPP because it protects patents and copyrights. Therefore, the higher-paid owners of the intellectual property would receive more of the income gains.
-
The deal may extend the scope of patents in sectors such a medicine and prevent the distribution of generic drugs. The agreement regarding patents would reduce the availability of cheap generics, making many drugs more expensive.
-
Leaked documents from TPP negotiations reveals that the deal would empower foreign corporations to skirt domestic courts and directly challenge domestic health, environmental and other public interest policies before extrajudicial foreign tribunals. Consequently, a country's national democracy could be undermined.
-
Competitive business pressures will reduce the incentives in Asia to protect the environment (despite previously established agreements to protect the environment).
-
The trade agreement could supersede financial regulations (meaning the TPP could acquire workarounds to the regulatory laws we placed on big banks and corporations after the big financial crash).
-That last site I just linked to is admittedly very against the TPP so take that as you will. None of the info it provides seems to be leaning against it without facts though.
–--------------------------------------------------------------
So yeah, it sounds like a real headache at this point. It's big, really big, so of course it can't be all good but it's not all bad either. You just have to figure out if it's worth it to figure out whether you support it or not. Right now, I'm sitting on "no". That economic and trade growth isn't worth the risk to the safety, health, and financial standards of our country. I wouldn't be surprised though if either Hillary or Trump get into office and change their mind on the TPP after "changing" up a few things about it. Who knows though? Negotiations will be ongoing for years to come.

So anyone keeping a tally Trump hates Muslims, hates Mexicans, Hates Women, Hates Journalist that don't soothe his easily fractured ego and now Fire Fighters even after they get him out of stuck elevator.

Trump is so offensive. He hasn't made any sacrifices on the same scale as the Khans. None of his sons have died in the defense of our country.
Hell, Trump hasn't served either, he was a jackass who claimed he had a medical condition. While yes heal spurs ARE enough to keep one out of service, and YES they do hurt like hell. Yet Trump was known to be able to participate in sports in collage at same time he claimed the medical condition. If they were bad enough to keep one out of the military, then they are too bad to play sports. As someone who has had heel spurs and the plantar fasciitis that often comes with it, it pisses me off he used this excuse to get out of service yet now judges dares to judge those that have served.Seriously, Trump has no respect for America's soldiers. He has insulted POWs and he's insulting the grieving family of a dead soldier.
What's really scary is that there are people willing to vote for him.

For the record… why is this a shock? Trump hates muslims and women, and he doesn't give a shit about the human lives we use to grease the wheels of war. It's not even the worst thing he's said so far this week. :X

We need to continue being outraged at all these offenses or otherwise we normalize it.

I have a theory that The Donald is some freak Republican Frankenstein's monster made from George Wallace's brain, Strom Thurmond's phylactery, Huey Long's mouth, and a dead ferret.

Trump has the racial hatred and the intelligence of Archie Bunker but is much worse as he has the viciousness and lack of morals of the Joker. -
McConnell: We should stop this blasphemy! Tampering in Saint Ronald's domain…
Ryan: Hm, Brother Mitch may have a point. We are going too far, Brother Reince. This is not the way to find the Perfect Republican.
Priebus: You guys worry too much. This is totally on the level and what our base wants. Besides, if he gets out of hand, we have binders full of qualified candidates to deal with him. Now pass me Joe Kennedy Sr.'s built-in foot-in-mouth. -
I was kinda chuckling over seeing tons of people on Facebook comment sections seriously pledging to vote Jill Stein over Hillary thinking that she was like the equivalent of Canada's "Screw them all I'm voting Green!" attitude happening in the States, but then.. I googled that she actually was Green.
Is.. this a thing? Like is this a really big thing? Cuz that's kinda .. not going to be productive.
-

Fair enough.

I don't think that helps when you're dealing with a troll; Not that it's bad to share news when it happens… just don't let yourself go insane and become the raving cult that Trump wants you to be. He thrives on the image of liberals violently offended by everything.

Yeah… the Green Party has gotten progressively more nuts over the last decade. I wouldn't worry about it unless you start seeing tv ads, though.

It's mostly people that want to vote an outside candidate for the sake of voting an outside candidate, their actual goals and agendas be damned. (The same people going "Bernie didn't win? Guess I'll vote for Trump!")
It's not a lot of people, a fraction of a fraction of a percent. The only real worry is that they'll siphon off juuuust enough votes to give it all to Trump, the way Nader stole the 2000 election from Gore.
Otherwise we haven't had a successful third party run since Ross Perot decades ago.
-
My opinion on third parties changed over the years. Four years ago, I voted for third party for the sole reason of trying to break up the two-party system. I voted for Gary Johnson, though I did not want Mitt Romney to win. Now, I realized it does not work that way at all. Like taboo said in this thread before, third parties start at the lowest level, and then build themselves up from there. I completely agree with her on what she said.
These other parties need to have a more prominent role in other things, before they decide that one of their own should try to be the next president of the United States. So, overall, I was approaching it wrong last time I voted, but that's okay, since I learned from my mistakes, and realized it did not work the things I thought it would. I still have much to learn about politics, and I thank everyone in this thread that helped educate me on the subject! ^^

And when that happens and it leads to a legitimately awful person being elected over someone who would've been potentially better. Shrugging their shoulders and then playing it off like it wasn't their fault the bad guy won, the potentially better option just didn't do enough to win.
-

This year, they're increasingly resorting to the idea that Congress would put a break on how bad Trump could be; of course, the simple fact that Republicans would strengthen their stranglehold on the federal government if he wins doesn't matter to them. It's about making the candidate who is ideologically closer to them but not "pure" lose.
-

I don't think many of them seem to know what congress and the senate exists for, since I've some actually insisting that a third party candidate getting into the white house somehow means that all the country's problems are somehow instantly fixed. Basically they pretty much ignore all the bullshit that's been going on the last several years.
-
Yeah, a third party filibustering would really destroy the vibe.

Trump will sign anything McConnell and Ryan throw on his desk; this is a fuckton scarier than Hillary getting free money from Goldman Sachs for a speech.

We already established that despite the myth, Clinton isn't sold out to Goldman Sachs.
Based on number of speeches and payment given, She's sold out to Canada and Ebay.

I dunno… if he doesn't hand the job off to someone else, he'll probably block anything that he doesn't have a personal stake in. Bringing the government to a halt until he and his friends get extra pork seems more in line with his MO.

It's a virtual certainty that the first thing to land on his desk would be something either repealing or crippling the Affordable Care Act and there's zero chance of Trump not signing it since it'd be his revenge on Obama for humiliating Il Douche at that White House Correspondence Dinner all those years ago. At the very least, they'd do something stupid like making insurance companies be able to sell across state lines, which would just result in the insurance companies moving to whatever state will allow them to gouge their customers most like the credit card companies did.

This reminds me of something my sister experienced in her early years of adulthood. She was riding the bus with a friend and both were complaining about the president (can't remember who it was at time, back in late 80s, maybe Reagan)
Finally an elderly lady got tired of their gripes and addressed them.Old lady= "Are you two old enough to vote?"
Sister= "Yes."
Old lady= "Did you vote?"
Sister= "No."
Old Lady = "Then you didn't exercise your right, and don't have the right to complain! Next time, vote!"While I may not agree with the 'no right to complain' (there are many reasons someone may not have been able to vote) but I do agree one should get out and vote.

Our generation has other important things to do that don't have an impact on their or anyone else's futures like making Youtube channels or playing Pokemon Go (and even there they don't want people treating to appeal to them to go out and vote).

Something stirs inside of Henry Kissinger. A warmth where a normal person's heart would be spreads through his body. He takes his magic umbrella out of his Magic Murder Bag and flies to Washington.
It was time for him to go back to work.

Craig Ferguson said it best:
-
The more and more I find out about Jill Stein the more baffled I am that people are trying to claim she's a better choice for President than Hillary.
Ok, so you know the concept of a politician flip flopping to pander to certain groups of voters? Like, "I was against this until I realized a group of voters who support me were for it… so now I'm for it!!" You know, that thing Hillary gets accused of doing? Well, Hillary at the very least, owns up to the fact that her opinion changed and tries to justify it.
Scroll to the VERY bottom of this article. The interviewer tries to give her the out. He tries to say "Hey, is it possible you were for LGBT rights all along and were only against it before because it was politically bad to be pro-LGBT before?" and she takes the high road. She doesn't take the easy out and firmly replies No. She was against it and has changed opinions as time has gone on.Fast forward to Jill Stein and the Green Party THIS YEAR.
Here's her Flip-flopping on her opinion of Brexit. Unlike Hillary, she doesn't own up to the fact that her opinion has changed and doesn't rationalize it. She just tries to go on like she was ALWAYS Anti-Brexit.
And here's her getting caught editing a tweet to pander to Anti-Vaxxers.Holy crap! Gasp! Shock! Could it be that ALL politicians pull crummy political tactics in order to win?! Could it be Hillary ISN'T some horrifying devil, but just another politician playing the game and doing what it takes to win?!
